I'm posting this here because I'm not able to post on the developers section just yet.
I am running the "official" CM10 Nightly and I have issues with my headset.
This is the stock headset that came with the phone.
It works just fine if I plug the headset in BEFORE a call, but if i plug in the headset DURING a call, I can't hear anything, or I can barely hear anything.
I've tried turning the "safe headset volume" toggle on AND off and neither does anything.
Even if I raise the volume to max, it doesn't work.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this? Please help!

Go back to stock. Nightlies are not for you.
I'm not trying to be mean. Nightlies are test builds. Stuff will be broken. If you need it to be not broken, you shouldn't be on a nightly build.

I like the build.
Clearly stuff will be broken, but I'm trying to figure out if its broken for a reason or if theres a fix.
Not everything is just broken with no possible fix.
I was hoping someone had a build that didnt have this problem or something along those lines.
I'm on stock and have a similar issue. If I plug my headset in during a call I can hear everything fine, but the person I'm talking with cannot hear me. I say this, not because I'm seeking help, but just to let you know it might just be an issue with the phone.

This is useful, if it's a stock issue as well.
Then you need to do some testing try a different ROM and then go from there. You may need a replacement device if you have to go back to stock and it still don't work.

see the interesting thing is that I'm the exact opposite.
Occasionally i can barely hear but not well enough to still use the headset.
Stupid thing is that it works fine if i call them back.

This is a known bug with CM10 and has been reported on its thread as well as the Unofficial Bug Tracker. I'd post the link for it, but I just recently created an account and cannot post outside links yet.
The work around seems to be to download "Audio Routing" and selecting "Headset Plug signal" change it from ignoring to "ALLOWING headset plug".

I hope this is the appropriate forum..
Any time I make, or receive a call, the sound is getting routed through the speaker. I must turn the speaker off each time to get the sound to go through the handset. Is there a setting somewhere?
Thanks in advance..

One of my employees had this issue. The USB port was going bad and always thought that it was in hands free mode. She returned it for another device and didn't have the same issue.

OP there is no setting in CM7 that I'm aware of that would cause the behavior you're experiencing. You either have a bad flash (did you do a FULL wipe before installing CM7?) or Aridon's probably correct - you may have a hardware problem.
After doing some research, I read where the accelerometer sometimes gets stuck. A simple reboot took care of the problem..
Thanks for the replies..
Hello,
I've been a user of the xda ROMs for quite some time and i appreaciate all the work that's been put into the community.
Sadly, i have stumbled onto an issue i cannot solve myself, so i am seeking your help.
Description: When receiving a call and answering it (phone vibrates and rings), i cannot hear the other person, but they can hear me. (Speaker on/off doesn't do a thing, volume rocker up/down either). If the person calls back within a few minutes, i can almost always hear them and have a normal conversation. This does not happen in 100% of the cases, but in more than 50%. I have switched ROMs, kernels and radios (ATM i have CM7.1 RC, mar1x bfs v4,5, and XXKB3)
Is there any hope?
same issue on i9020t
I been having the same issue, but not quite as frequent, on my I9020T. I've experienced it with Cyanogenmod 7.1RC1 and NSCOLLAB (also based on CM71). I think I had it with CM7.0.2 and CM7.0.3, but can't remember for sure. The problem does not occur when I revert back to stock 2.3.4 rooted.
A somewhat related post in this forum, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188264, got me thinking. The OP had a similar problem on an I9023 when bluetooth was enabled. I've noticed on NSCOLLAB that DSPManager is running a "Headset" service. I do not have DSPManager installed on my stock install.
Can someone more knowledgeable tell if its possible this service could be related to the problem with callers not being able to hear me. FYI, my bluetooth is normally off and I don't use a headset. I'm back to running NSCOLLAB 1.3.8, but I've disabled the Headset service. If the problem doesn't occur for a couple days, I think I may have something.
dinuvali, is the Headset service running on your build?
Removed DSPManager earlier. Just answered a call where they hear me but I can't hear them. They called me back, all normal.
Oh well, rolling back to stock for now.

Thank you for the reply,
Yes my CM 7.1 is running the DSPManager service.
Also, my neighbour who has the exact device as me, but stock unrooted, has never experienced this problem.
Along with this problem of not hearing the other person on the first call, i also get the dropped call once in a while (not only after 3 mins of talking, but also while the phone is ringing and they still haven't picked up yet)
From all the posts i've read concerning this issue, i think it's mainly a hardware issue, but maybe it can be bypassed with some sort of tweak.
Major breakthrough imo
Pressing Hold (left upper corner) and then unholding will render me able to hear the other person!

Great find! Come to think of it, I never had it happen when I answered someone and immediately hit speakerphone, something I do alot when in my car mount.
I think I'll reload NSCollab, new version just came out today. When it happens again (unless they fixed it) I'll try this out. Thanks!
Hi,
I have been having a problem lately with the headphone port on my phone.I don't use it at all for anything but for some reason, my phone randomly says that there are headphones plugged into my phone. This stops me from being able to hear sounds out of the speaker so i miss phone calls and texts. I also can't hear voices when I phone someone.
I am currently using the latest version of the "CyanogenMod (CM7)" port on my phone. Was wondering if anyone else was having this problem.
Sorry if it has already been posted, I have searched and couldn't find anything.

I have never seen anyone report this problem nor have i had it myself. I think it is a hardware problem so try sticking something in there if you want to experiment yourself or take it to a repair shop.
I have tried that before and it didn't help unfortunately. I did again just to check and it didn't help.
If I re-boot the phone it stops doing it but only for a short time.
I plugged some headphones in after the re-boot and they didn't show.
Maybe there has been something spilt on it and no one told me
Thank you for your help

Try flashing another ROM, preferably a Froyo ROM and see if it works then because it seems the problems stops for a while then appears. Hopefully that works.

I've seen a lot of people post about others not being able to hear them on normal conversations, but my problem is the complete opposite.
They hear me fine when i use the phone, but when i put the phone on speakerphone, they can not hear me at all. they hear me talking but it is so faint that it is almost inaudible.
This also occurs when i try to use video chat features on the phone.
Is there something wrong with the mic or is it a software issue? Any Thoughts?
What ROM/Kernel are you using specifically?

Everything is stock. 2.3.4
Oh, that's strange. When stock everything SHOULD work, doesn't mean it always works though. It could be just a network error, I doubt that though, could also be a physical problem too, but lets not get ahead of ourselves, software wise you can try CM7 or something to see if it works on there, rebooting may work but I'm sure you've already tried that. What I would do is try a few different roms, and if that doesn't work, then it might be a physical problem. Physically the phone might be able to pick up your voice fine close up, but is weak away from your face. Just throwing out some possibilities here.

Hello guys,
Just recently, my speaker option stopped working and I am not sure how it happened. I've been on barebones for a couple months now and I was curious if it was just the rom, so I flashed cm9 and slimics, but still no luck. Any suggestions how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

When you say speaker option, do you mean putting it on speaker during a phone call? Do you hear sound out of your external speaker when you play music or do anything else besides phone calls?
I would suggest going back completely to stock using the GB one-click: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498. Or, maybe even giving the gremlin remover a try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500427&highlight=gremlin
If you don't get sound going on a completely stock ROM, you probably have a hardware issue. Has the phone been dropped or has anything been spilled on it?
Yes, your right, the speaker option won't work during a phone call. When it is at max volume its just a scratchy sound from the person when they talk. I think your suggestion may be the best way to go as far as trying to get my speaker to work again. Thanks.
