Club of dead atrix2 owner - Motorola Atrix 2

HEY GUYS,
Let's create here a club of dead atrix2 owner to mourn together may our pain be divided and reduced. I'm one who lost my beloved Atrix2, going back to 2.3.5 from the dreary ICS leak.
What do you think about the idea?

Lets not mourn yet. We still have until the end of the 3rd Q to get OTA ICS. (End of September) I remain hopeful that SOAK testing will begin any day now.

I don't think he means that the A2 is dead in general, but that his own personal A2 is dead from getting bricked. He wants a club of people who have somehow killed their A2 and want to mourn together. Right?

Not to be a jerk but, I am just curious what would be the point for this "group" or club? And where would you meet or talk about this?
None of you have a working A2, so why not just move on to another phone and be a part of that group instead. That would be more productive in my opinion, rather than wasting time talking about a phone that you can not use.

Kind of get a little laugh..... There are the two kinds of people that bricked, those before the return script (feel sorry for them) and those that did not take the time to read how to downgrade and bricked (no pitty lol)..... Like Jim said get a new phone, may it be another Atrix 2 or even better a SGIII lol......

why to mourn ?
we have a very good and stable mobile phone , we need to use the phone , not to work on it !
the 4.0.4 leaks leads to a very good and stable official ics soon,
i don't think i need jelly bean/cm10
i had wasted a lot of time flashing/modding some other android phones before SAMSUNG I9000 and LG GW620, we/you can not always stay parallel with android ! it's a fast growing OS.
mobile manufactures can not develop all it's products to the latest android OS (every 10 months !)
i think i will stay on SCV7,(big thank to rdavisct), and i don't think i will flash the official ICS.
anyway, this is my opinion even i had my AT2 before few days.

I think I would be deeply in mourning if my phone were now an expensive brick...

Lol think we all would..... Still have my bricked G1 in a box thinking some day I will get around to Jtag it back to life.....:crying:

I almost joined you - I fell asleep with my phone under my pillow and water canteen on a camping trip and woke up with it waterlogged. I got it back with a night in a bag of rice and 0% humidity, and so far nothing seems to be amiss.

I'm an idiot and flashed a ROM for Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I accidentally flashed a ROM for the Galaxy S II SGH-I777 instead of for the Sykrocket. Now my power button won't work at all. I'm afraid I may have completely hosed it. Anyone here who has a lot more knowledge than me have any suggestions on what I could possibly do to get my phone to at least turn on enough to flash a skyrocket rom?
It's done for. Flashing an i777 rom screws up the partitions and the ONLY. and I repeat, ONLY way to get it working again is to send it and get it JTAG'ed. Search. You'll find plenty. This is a recurring issue with users here, sadly. Just saw a topic yesterday about this.
Try download mode, or a usb jig to get into download. Basically your phone is bricked. If the jig does not work. You will want to consider a jtag service. Thank you, bye bye now.
I did the same thing in January, pretty dumb on my part. Totally bricked.

The explosion of ignorance lately has been amusing, discouraging, intriguing, and worrisome all at the same time.
I did it in January, not yesterday, and yes,it was pretty stupid in hindsight. I had done lots of ROM installs on my old Captivate, for some reason I didn't pay close enough attention to the ROM I was flashing on the Skyrocket and used the wrong one. I'm sure there are lots of people on here who have done the same thing but haven't admitted it.

All Atrix 2 Users on ICS Leak!

I'am putting this thread out as a warning to all Atrix 2 users. Currently it seems that there is something wrong with the fkz patch to 2.3.5 from ICS. About 5 or 6 people have encountered this and after trying to flash through RSD Lite they have HARD BRICKED their phones. According to Jim, there might be something in the ROM (similar to the HK leaks) that causes a hard brick during an RSD flash. So this means we currently have no way to get back to stock. Jim and the other devs are looking into it.
SO UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE I STRONGLY ADVICE, FOR NOW, NOT TO DO ANYTHING THAT COULD BRICK YOUR PHONE, AS YOUR PHONE WILL STAY BRICKED.

You can get an advanced exchange by calling AT&T at the following number, if you have bricked using RSDlite:

You also cant get more leaks since cheesecake is not working with ICS at this moment... and you are also off the OTA train as well, since this is a leak, and the real ICS OTA will most likely have some more checks for system apps signatures.

Will they figure out later what we did to the phone and decline the warranty? I am kind of worried.
I was thinking about walking in an att store for an exchange. Should I call instead?

as long as it is totally bricked, you should be ok. I guess you could just shock the hell out of the motherboard, but I wouldn't, even though it would be fun. Car battery anyone?

No they will not figure it out, and if they do you will already have your replacement. I have had 4 replacements now, due to my hacking this phone, and I have had an advenced replacement each time and never had an issue or been questioned once.
If you walk into a store, they will call this same number while you are there, and you will still have to be sent a replacement through 3 day delivery. Have a backup phone, even if you go grab a 10 dollar track phone and put your att sim in it.
Well this sucks. Thanks for the heads up on this. I was going to go back to 2.3.5 today because of the overclocking in this leak. The battery drain with it is a issue for me. I'll wait till a fix is available. Thanks again.

exactly, the problem is, once you go to the ics leak, you may never be able to get the real ics update. it may be possible, since you could keep this boot image and just flash the system, but there is no guarantee that would work and may even cause hard brick.
Keep in mind, this risk of hard brick is simply becaus moto decided to lock us down even more. they made an rsd flash not really possible. I think this same thing happend to the OG atrix people.
For some reason, Jim has had no problem getting back, but the rest of us have not been able to as of yet. we are looking into why that is and trying to find a way around it.
I do believe we will be able to find a way to get users now on ICS back to GB and back on the ota track, but even if not we may be able to at least make it so that they can unbrick from ics by flashing an ICS fxz like thing.
For those that have already bricked, there may not be a way back, but you can get an exchange.
For better or worse, one or two of our devs (not to be named here) hard bricked. while that means they will not be able to do much until they get replacements, they should be the best at figuring out how to get out of it if possible.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO TAKE FROM THIS WHOLE PROCESS IS THAT YOU CANNOT GET MAD AT THE DEVS FOR NOT WARNING YOU. NONE OF US SAW THIS COMING. THERE IS AN INHERENT RISK IN MODDING YOUR PHONE, AND THIS IS EXACTLY IT.
Good warning! This will save a lot of ppl.
Thanks for the heads up, will wait for further info. Really enjoying this leak so far though.

call or chat with moto, see if they will sell you one directly, but that might be expensive
Would this hard brick have to do with the generation of mb865? Because it work for Jim right? Maybe it fails with some models. There must be a constant in the hardbrick, maybe the affected members can give us some background info of their phones.

So, just curious... are we screwed when the official ICS update comes out? I mean, I installed this on my man's phone last night and it is working great but I'm sure the final one is gonna have tons of fixes for various things... Wouldn't we be able to install bootstrap and flash a new official custom ICS rom when they come out? I've already rooted his phone on ICS. I'm just worried he's gonna end up mad with me now. Lol!
I'm confused as to why this would work fine for some people and hard brick others? The Fxz worked totally fine for me!

I think when the devs find a way to get back to 2.3.5, 2.36 then we'll be able to take the OTA. No cheesecake support and cannot check for system updates. I'm sure these devs will figure it out for us...They're smart.

I need victims, er, um, I mean volunteers for testing

Hey, I need some testers to test my script to get back to 2.3.5 from the ICS leak.
These are the requirements:
1) You are on AT&T and have not bought your phone on the "grey" market, and still have an AT&T warranty.
2) You are not afraid to possibly brick your phone and are willing to get an exchange from AT&T's warranty department.
3) You will not blame me for possibly bricking your phone.
4) You will get praise when I release this to everyone and you will be thanked, and get thanks from everyone for testing this out.
I have a shell script that will work for both Linux and Mac, and a batch (.bat) file for the windows users.
Please ONLY reply if you want to test this, I will answer any questions you have about it in here as well. I will PM the DL link to the testers that have replied.
Now if you are still cool with this, please reply to this thread with the following info:
1) Which OS you use
2) That you are cool with testing this
I am looking for a few people from each OS to test this, so I will take the first 5 people who are on different OS' to give this a shot.
This is based on the patch files the Chinese/HK guys used to fxz back, and that others have verified works, for us. This does NOT use rsdlite.
I'm in but not until late night. 11pm est. I'm on ics. I use win7 or Ubuntu 12.04
If you haven't picked up enough volunteers by evening pick which one you would like me to test.

I'm actually still on 2.3.6, but I got the leaked zip before it was pulled (never got man enough to put it on). So, if you don't have enough people by tonight, let me know and I'll install the leak and test for you (I won't be ready until later this evening ~8 or 9 pm est). I use Win7.
Praise, really?! Will they sing songs about me and everything?
Hi, my name is Apex, and I'm an alcoholic.
Just kidding, but seriously...
My SG3 buy-back deal seems to have fallen on hard times, as I cannot seem to locate a blue (don't know about owning a white phone, seems weird to me) SG3, so I still have my A2 and my girlfirend's A2 that she's upgraded to from the OG Atrix, as well I have the ICS leak and can help out also if needed.
At this point, I don't care about bricking one of these phones, as I will be getting the SG3 -in blue, once located close within my residential geography- but until then, I shall be at your service, should you so require my testing.
*I have warranties, and insurance, and a cavalier sense of adventure right now!

2) Cool.
Upgraded in October 2011 to this phone. Not refurbished. Version 1. Originally with 2.3.5. Updated to 2.3.6. had it rooted on 2.3.6 and have tried all the roms available. fxz to 2.3.5, updated to 2.3.6 and was running Romulus for awhile. From Romulus I flashed a backup of what i thought was 2.3.6 that I had and updated to the leak. Did not flash first time (android lying down with triangle) and flashed again and have been on it since. Have had no problems, battery, network or otherwise and it did NOT overclock (still at 1 gig). After the flash i had no root (tried to keep with ota rootkeeper). Could not root, even using the batch file. Had to remove bootstrapper files. Finally updated to newest drivers and gained root using batch file. Currently on the leak, running apex launcher and just installed BootMenu Manager. And i do have insurance.
Would love to help but hard bricked my **** trying to FXZ back from 2.3.6 to 2.3.5 a few hours ago...how stupid does that sound? Got stuck at 5/18 in RSD on reboot bootloader...just sat there...no choice. Tried unplugging and battery pull...wont even turn on. Great!!! [Q] ICS time!

I have had my Atrix 2 8 days past the 30 day mark. And recently the phone has started getting really hot. Not when I am using but when it is just sitting.
I have checked to see what app or process could be running and causing it. And I have found nothing. This is what I have checked so far
Wifi is off
Bluetooth is off
GPS is off
Here are the only things using my power
Cell Standby 33%
Phone Idle 31%
Voice Calls 9%
Motorola Services 4%
Display 4%
And it gets smaller from there. I can set the phone down and walk away and come back to pick it up and it is smokin hot with 40% of the battery drained.
I sent an email to Motorola support on New Years. I have not heard back from them. I also contacted ATT and they want to give me a refurbished phone. Which I have refused due to last phone I did with them. I got a scratched up dented phone in trade for my flawless phone. I told them my phone has been used for 38 days and is flawless I want the same back.
I liked the phone at first but I am about at my wits end. Any ideas what can be causing this?
Hey Motorola Atrix 2 users! It's been a few weeks since my last post here, and my topic is the same as it once was lol
I have a Samsung Infuse 4G, but I want to work with my Dad's Motorola Atrix 2, now rooted, Stock OTA Gingerbread 2.3.6.
After rooting his device, I was able to get him certain little features he really wanted (mobile hotspot, notification toggles, screenshot) without switching his ROM. He ended up not wanting to switch, then lol.
It's his birthday today, though, and he still wants ICS, so I gave this forum a look around and noticed this which, if I understand correctly, will get him onto an ICS leak.
From there, I'd be able to flash SCv7 (the ICS ROM my quick poking around tells me is the most stable right now), right over the leak with no problem, right?
It seems things are a lot more stable for ICS and this device than they were a few weeks ago, and I'd really love to get him onto SCv7 later today (it's about 5:30 AM where I am right now) if possible. Would SCv7 be a good choice as an ICS daily driver with data, wifi, mobile hotspot, GPS, and MMS all functioning? I haven't read anything to the contrary lol.
Also, Is there anyone I can PM while I go through this process? I'm a Samsung guy, so some Motorola aspects of modding are a bit sketchy to me lol
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! I'll offer what little I know about the Samsung Infuse (and probably the Samsung Galaxy S series devices, since they're pretty similar) in return if that encourages anyone lol I know I'm asking a lot here, but you guys seem like a really helpful and efficient community!
Thanks a lot!
if you are having AT&T hardware MB865 then the ICS leak will work. (OP suggests that)
and if something goes wrong (most of the time it WONT !) & if u Hardbrick ur fone then pls
dont blame anyone.
talking about SCV7 ... its buttery smooooth u can go for that too
just FOLLOW the STEPS EXACTLY
all the best :fingers-crossed:
Official ICS from Motorola is a few weeks away. Some people have bricked their phones flashing the leak and then reverting back to 2.3.5. Be safe and wait for the phone to update itself via OTA (provided it is on stock 2.3.6) to the final released ICS from Motorola directly.

Definitely not, I would never blame someone else! And I always read each step many times before actually doing it. I've flashed about 4 ROMs on my Infuse and I've never bricked once :fingers-crossed:, same with rooting both devices
So you feel SCv7 is good for GPS, MMS, Data, Wifi, Tethering, and Bluetooth? Thanks again!

Official ICS from Motorola is a few weeks away. Some people have bricked their phones flashing the leak and then reverting back to 2.3.5. Be safe and wait for the phone to update itself via OTA (provided it is on stock 2.3.6) to the final released ICS from Motorola directly.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply!
I had no idea! They promised an OTA update? I know this is asking a lot, I'm sorry I know very little about Motorola, but best guess, a few weeks meaning months? Lol thanks a lot, I really appreciate the advice!

The Motorola Feedback Network (MFN) has been recruiting users for the ICS Soak Test. The soak test is the final step before the OTA is released to the public. We are expecting the soak test to start this week. They send the OTA to 1,000 qualified MFN members to make sure the final version of the OTA is stable. If that goes well the OTA goes live two to three weeks later and is usually rolled out over a few weeks so their update servers are not overloaded all at once. When it is ready if the phone is on 2.3.6 stock it will get a notification that the update is ready and to download and install it.

Rayk, check out the thread "Which phone should I buy" in there mr Jim tells us how to get the folks at the ATT store to let us upgrade early. The ATT store totally hooked me up even though I had 11 months to go. This may be a good way for you to get your dad hooked up with much faster equipment. That said I think my new Moto Atrix HD with ICS is going to be very similar to the Atrix 2 ICS. I would bet that benchmark tests would come out equal from what I've seen in some of the ICS threads. The screen is slightly bigger but the battery draw is quite a bit more. With Bluetooth connected, GPS on, connected to LTE tower (using navigation so data is being pulled), and screen on @ 50% brightness it is reading 4330mV in my battery widget by elvision. All that said can someone message me what the atrix 2 (HSPA+ of course) draws under the same conditions? Thanks, Jeff.

I also can attest to the early upgrade with AT&T. I was not due for my 'regular' upgrade, but since I have been with them for so long, a few words to the manager and they hooked me up as well (got the SGS3). So, from a $450 dollar charge for the phone, I walked out only paying $180 for it. It's worth a try, and if nothing else, if you tell them that you are seriously considering switching carriers, they will do most anything for you to keep you as a customer!

That's totally true guys lol if AT&T is good for one thing, it's
bending over backwards to not lose customers. Months before we were due for an upgrade, by suggesting we were going to T-Mobile, my Dad managed to get us my Infuse, 2 Motorola Atrix 2s, an iPhone 4s, and an HTC Amaze. It was incredible LOL
So I don't think we can try doing it again lol but definitely you guys are right and thanks a lot for the advice!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Definitely gonna wait now. OTA sounds good to me!
I'll just tell him the good news lol and have him wait. His birthday present didn't come in the mail yet, so that's why I was gonna do this. But if it means about a month give or take until he's running ICS OTA, then I'll advise him to wait. Thank you!

Aw man... I'm excited about this phone all over again.

I bought this phone maybe two months or a month and a half ago. At the time, I had no idea that root was impossible. I also own a Play Store Galaxy Nexus, so after being so free to do what I wanted with it for so long, the One X was giving me anxiety fits (anxiety over a cell phone, yes I know).
I don't really need two phones, so I should sell one. Which one though? The HOX is a monster in every aspect, but I can't fiddle with it. The Nexus is so nice in that arena, but the camera is borderline putrid and the screen is sort of dark. Plus I have good eyesight, so the Pentile nature of the screen boasts its presence at every turn. It runs everything pretty well and gets updates very quickly. The development is second to none. But the HOX. That screen. That camera. It has LTE. That snapdragon. I'm going to have less "spending money" available to me soon, so I want the phone that's most futureproof. That's obviously the HOX. Software is important. So what do I do? Hold out for the next Nexus? Sell both and get a Galaxy S3? I really prefer the HOX over the S3, so I don't want to do that. If only I could root the damn thing and put CM10 on it like I have on my GNex. Damn damn damn. I guess I'll be patient and see if the heroes of legend at XDA can work their magic.
I sift through the forums reading about this and that. CM10 on the HOX has a bunch of wakelocks? Wifi problems? Man, is it worth it to wait or should I just sell this thing while the prices are good? AT&T is purposefully crippling my baby. The one phone I want and I'm at the mercy of damn AT&T. Why can't HTC have the sort of power necessary to stand up to carriers like that fruit company from California? If only.
And just two nights ago, BAM. I worked until 12:30AM and have to return to work the next day at ~4:30AM, not to mention wake up at 3:30 so I can shower and shave with time to pick up a coworker at her place. It's 1:30 and I really ought to get some sleep. But I'm not finished with this delicious beer yet. Guess I'll check XDA in the meantime. Oh god... "Exploit found" says the bounty thread. Welp, so much for going to sleep now. So after fighting with both my computer and my phone for a while, my bootloader is unlocked. I don't know how to root yet because this is my first HTC phone. But we're off to a good start. I get an hour and a half of sleep and come home from work, tired and miserable. Should I nap? Hell no, I need TWRP. To XDA! Hello, custom recovery. Now I need root. What's this? A flashable SuperSU .zip? Hmm... let's try it. Better install a root check app since I don't know how to tell if I have root otherwise. Success! Well damn it, now I'm ready to flash the CM10 zip from Goo manager. Oh, no I'm not. I have to flash the boot.img with fastboot first. I've never done this before (GS2 and Gnex were my previous phones) and I don't know what the hell S-On is, but whatever. Let's do it. Good Lord, it worked. I'm one step closer to the love child of the Gnex and HOX that I've been so long waiting to adopt. Now I can flash the CM10 zip? Alright, let's do it.
And here I am. This is what I've been waiting for. After switching my sim card between my HOX and GNex almost every other day, I can finally leave it in one phone for a while. The ROM I'm running is labeled "experimental," but it really seems to be anything but. Aside from some visual quirks and some in-call echo, I've had practically zero issues using this phone. The battery life is comparable to stock, and while it seems to be lacking some of the butter of the CM10 Gnex nightlies, it's just fine for me. Fast. Stable. Powerful.
So this is me gushing over the devs here at XDA. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to righting what is repeatedly wronged by the juggernaut telecoms here in the US.
While most people hate AT&T for locking the bootloader, you can understand why they did it if you read the threads here about people flashing incompatible roms and hard bricking their phones. Especially this guy:

To the OP, I felt the same type of excitement when I saw it. I appreciate the time and effort put into this exploit and anyone who may have helped. It's even more exciting that theres awesome people who freely release these to the public so that awesome ROMS can be put on. I was so ticked off with my locked bootloader I almost switched it out for a motorola atrix HD. The first time I took it back was legit though, it had the muffled voice syndrome, and the phone was only 6 days old, the corp store tried to give me a refurbished phone! ... I refused it and got a new one, and that one had battery issues, had to take it back a second time but finally got it straight right on the day of the root exploit. At the end of the week if I got any spare change I am definitely going to donate for the hard work it took and the time and patience.

LOL, good quote find.
On one hand yes, I can understand why a company may lock down a bootloader and I am sure many companies going forward may get the same dangerous idea. Maybe its true intentions is to protect people from bricking the phone or wasting their time with claims etc .. but on the other hand imagine if you bought a computer and Dell or HP comes in and says, well we locked down the firmware we dont want you putting any other OS in there but microsoft. Also, on top of that we dont want you using any other video cards besides an ATI card .. to prevent you from this we locked down the firmware. It's poisonous to creativity.
I believe in open source and feel saddened when we get locked bootloaders. I love the Android OS, I feel it should be completely open without any company interferences so that many great devs can continue to create and modify the existing OS/ROMs. Its a two sided coin.
I really am loving XDA, so much useful info, so many things to learn.
Lmao I nearly messed myself when I first saw that thread. That douche is never gonna live it down.

Stories like that kind of worry me, I just got the phone and love playing with Nova Prime but have dug into rooting it yet until I read more about it.

Everyone is guilty of the childlike excitement you get when you successfully root a new phone and see that first Rom you want to try
