Is there an easy way to root the TF300 without using the downgrade method? I've been spoiled with all of the easy One Click root methods on my SGS and would love to find out if there is a similar method for the TF300.
If you are on .17 its simple, if you have OTA updated to .26 or .29 then no not at the moment.
Can unlock bootloader but that will void your warranty.
You can unlock your device and flash root, if you know how to install CWM.

A way (but if you dont have .17 a downgrade must be done) is this:

I'm looking into it as well (havent tried it yet)

I've downgraded 3-4 times using wolf's second downgrade method.
It's actually pretty risky, but it worked flawlessly nonetheless.
I have got some questions about rooting my TF300T. I realise that when given the loaded gun that is called root, my foot (or head) is a valid target for the gun to shoot.
1. Will rooting stop OTA updates? If Yes, will unrooting allow OTA updates to be done again?
2. Is rooting safe (as I suppose)?

rooting is safe and will not effect you recieving ota updates. it's unlocking your bootloader that stops ota updates.
edit: rooting is safe as long as you don't mess up your build.prop that is.

You don't need to unlock the bootloader to root. You only need to unlock the bootloader to install a custom recovery.

Even with an unlocked bootloader, you can still install OTA's, however your will have to go to the ASUS website and install them. They are just updated firmwares. Nothing special, OTAs are for meant for people who should not be unlocking their device in the first place.
I just got a tf300 and it keeps telling me to do the update. Should I take the update or would this make it harder to flash etc?

that depends.
if you only want to root it but keep stock firmware and recovery, you should do it now before updating. as long as you are on version .17 you can use sparky root to root, OTA root keeper to backup root, update, use OTA root keeper to restore Root and enjoy.
if you want to Flash ROM's and stuff, you can do whatever you like. you will have to unlock the bootloader and as far as i can tell, that is supposed to work on any software version as long as it is ICS. unlock, flash recovery, flash your ROM of choice.

You can update and still root on the latest firmware. I got mine and updated out of the box and was able to root it easily. I don't know why someone is saying you need to be on .17

Has any one been able to root Jellybean yet, or downgrade back to Ice Cream Sandwich for the transformer prime tf300. Ive tried the firmware update to the .17 for ics and its still locked to Jellybean. The only other thing i could think of is to use the kernals, but i found no way to install them. Should i even try unlocking the bootloader?
So far, it looks hopeless to try and downgrade to ICS. The source code has been released so we may have root in the not-to-distant future once the developers have a look at it.

If you can downgrade to ICS you could potentially get root back using the debugfs method. Then you can upgrade again and rescue your root with voodoo ota root keeper, but I had to wipe data after the jb upgrade, and that broke root for good, for now.

Yes, you can root JB.
I just bought my Tab, upgraded to JB right away then performed below steps:
1) Used the ASUS unlocker to unlock the device, make sure you have internet connection otherwise it will not work.
2) Follow 3rd part in below thread to root JB:

For locked u can only root ics and keep it using voodoo rootkeeper and than update. Thats how i did it.
Im not sure but u could downgrade using this method. It flash whole system again and clear all ~30gb of memory so it should work.

Absolutely. I used twrp to flash it just because it worked better for me, but cwm will flash it too. Flash it, download supersu from the store, update the such binary automatically with it, and off you go with root.

Some people lost root after the update, especially those who did a factory wipe of data afterward, like me. This guide helps those with unlocked bootloader. At this time, you cannot root jb with a locked bootloader if you lost it during the upgrade.
