nope once you've taken the update you get a new HBOOT and it's impossible to downgrade after that.
I thought you could do a factory reset and it would return you to 1.85?

Nope. A factory reset just clears all user data. You'll end up with a fresh version of whatever software your phone is running at the time. Unfortunately there is no going back from 2.20 at the moment.

Hi this is my current version. I try to update the firmware thru "AT&T software update" and it just loads and goes back to the software check screen :/ I'm on H2O if that matters...not rooted..no custom Rom..nor unlocked bootloader.

Idk a guy did it in less than 15 minutes...all he did was configure some settings and put in the sim...no unlock code needed since H2O is AT&T..But uh I was going to do this .... http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-x-att/software-updates....it looks like it is the safety way to do it no?

Well apparently. Your on firmware 1.85 ...lucky you can root the phone. After you root you supercid it then unlock bootloader, install recovery the download a Rom and your done. Suggest you search for how to root and so on before actually attempting this. I stress this because for any reason your on 2.20 then you wouldn't be able to do this stuff unroll someone finds an exploit for this.

Is it an AT&T phone?
If so, you can't unlock the bootloader, and thusly you cannot root.

Yeah :/ it's at&t lol so I guess I'll have to wait to do this. But if and when I do, should I run into any problems being that I now own a Refurbished phone?

The fact that it's refurbished has no bearing over whether or not it's rootable.
The main point of the question was if I should or shouldn't... If they didn't reset the bootloader or main circuit board I can end up with another brick. That's what I'm trying to avoid this time

There's no reason to not s-off lol. It's very simple to do and takes like 5 minutes.
Okay so I am talking to a dev from the Incredible 4g community. We need all the steps to get a fully working exploit. He knows how to get temp root. What do we need to do after a temp root is established?
This is not me developing this is me letting a dev work with my phone. Any negitive feed back is not wanted. If you want to say anything negitive. Please inbox me.

-hexedit CID to 11111111
-follow the s-off exploit
Once you've got s-off, you can change your CID to 22222222 and use htcdev to unlock. After that, it's just a matter of flashing recovery and a rooted rom.

i liked Doug, i just always thought he was more knowledgeable until people started picking on him. he just seems to be acting like he isn't. i do like that he is being proactive about root methods for jb, which is pretty awesome of him. he does make alot of threads though =)

Is it possible to use supercid and then unlock bootloader? And then flash the recovery stuff and root like in this video?
