Otterbox Commuter Series Case for Motorola Photon Q
I've had this case of about a week now. It's definitely a very solid, well built case. I feel confident that my phone will be protected if I happen to drop it, and the case won't shatter in the process (I've had this happen before). My only real complaint is that the gripping surface on the outside of the case feels almost slippery. It's just plastic, no coating to provide a better grip surface, the back is nicely grooved though to provide some grip, and the rest of it does have some texture so it's definitely not a deal breaker.
The screen protector that comes with it is only so so. I'd recommend picking up a Skinomi or Phantom Skinz screen protector when they're finally released.
Overall I would definitely recommend this case, and I would buy it again if I had to.

Thank you for this, I've been eyeballing that case. Though, if the case lacks grip it won't work for me. Here's holding out for a kickstand case!

I just ordered the Body Glove case from Amamzon, it has a kickstand. I will get it tomorrow and will let you know the good and the bad.
I cant post any links yet but this is the name of it on Amazon

Awesome! Let me know how it turns out, I might be able to forgive how ugly that thing is if there's a decent kickstand and some grip on the back.
At work we offer the otterbox for staff who get the iphone. Those of us with android have usually been left to fend for ourselves for accessories. The phone stays in my pocket when not in use and I'm not clumsy so I don't really think I need a case for it.
In regards to screen protectors, there were unconfirmed reports that the photon q has gorilla glass, has anyone found any validity to that?
My evo shift did have gorilla glass and it never scratched up on me.

Well I got it and not much to say except it has a kickstand It wasn't as ugly as the pic but its slicker than owl snot
Not sure what Body Glove was thinking. I could get the grip tape out and mod it a little...maybe make it kind of Ironman-ish LOL
But I might return it and stick to the OtterBox one, I have it as well and it's a good one.
So my 2 cents is; if you haven't bought one yet get the Otterbox for sure. Or you could wait, I am sure more styles are on the way.
Thanks for the review. Mine comes in later this afternoon.

IIRC it does have some sort of "nano coating" that makes it very hard to scratch. But my experience has been that no matter how hard it is to scratch I eventually will, so I always get a nice screen protector. I normally stick with Phantom Skinz, they've always done an excellent job of protecting my screen.
Just got the commuter in black and loving it so far! Feels good and has protection all over phone! Something other case I don't see do. For some reason I hate those cases for qwerty phones that has opening and not solid cover pieces for the whole phone

I got the case as well, and the only thing I don't like about it is the screen protector - it doesn't seem like it was designed to fit the screen, at all!?!
I guess I'll get another screen protector from another company. The case itself is good, my only other gripe would be it needs to be grippy on the back - the hard plastic just causes the phone to slide everywhere!!

Yes the screen protector sucks. I use it now til I find a better replacement but I notice otterbox is doing that now with screen protector in the commuter series. I guess to push people into the defender? But since we know they probably not going to make a defender model for the q the screen protector should be better!!! Girl I work with has the white one and i may trade for the white. But hers is already dirty and after awhile its gonna look like crap. Also seems like the white one uses a different kind of finish. Seems thick with case on but next to a epic is was about the same size
Sent from my XT897 using xda premium
I already used the otterbox but when I would like to "release" it from my photon q, its really hard to dismantle the case on the lower part (keyboard part), cause there is no "grip" for our finger..any suggestion?

I like the commuter series Otter Box on my Q but the case around the screen isn't perfectly snug. It has a small amount of play in it anyone else had this problem? or should i probably trade it in for a new one

+1. Not a big fan of the play either, because it does rub on that shiny edge... But oh well. I doubt a new case would solve it.
I used to have a piece of paper folded in my old phone and case so it wouldnt budge.
anyone know if this case is compatible with the vehicle dock? (the otterbox for the Photon 4G blocked the data connector to the vehicle dock.)

No sadly it is not compatible unless you cut off the rubber flap that blocks the ports... if manage to do that then it is still a pain to fit in the dock even with the adapter plate removed... i take it out of the case when it is docked

It fits, but the speaker hole isn't centered properly.. I've had one (still do) but I'm using the Sedio Active X which I like better..
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/csk3ssfas-bk.htm
or you can get it with the holster which I did
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/csk3ssfas-bk.htm
Look at the last pic of this post and you'll see what I'm talking about on the otterbox
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9342504&postcount=12
Besides it covering the speaker, it also covers some of the top of the glass on the phone which the seido doesn't. It's easier to press the volume and power buttons with the seido. And the Seido also provides more grip than the Otterbox. The otterbox can be a little slippery. I think the seido looks way better. Also use XMAS15 if you decide on the seido and you'll get 15% off...

I just purchased an Otterbox Fascinate Impact Series Case case last week and it works great on my Mesmerize.
They have updated the case and now the glass isn't covered on the top of the phone, and the speaker hole is lined up. See photo from the otterbox site below:

I would disagree that it's slippery. It's made of silicone and has bumps in a carbon fiber patteron on the back to prevent it from slipping out of your hand. I have not dropped it once since I've gotten it.
The otterbox case adds a slight weight and bulk to the phone, but I've gotten used to it and I think it's worth it for the protection it provides. I also comes with a screen protector.
I haven't handled an Innocase Active X in person so I can't compare it fairly but I do like my otterbox.
I also had an invisible shield with full coverage but I regretted the extra coverage and would have prefered the standard front and back and ended up removing the shield fully and going with an otterbox case.

Yes, they have fixed the speaker hole issue with the latest revision..
But in the pic you showed the plastic still does cover some of the glass at the top on front (not the actual screen)..
Look at the sedio Active X and you'll see the entire glass is visible which looks better IMO..
And compared to the Seido the Otterbox is very slippery.. The Sedio has finger grips and a lot more silcone, not to mention the plastic hard X shape has a rubbery grip to it as well...
I have the revised Otterbox being shipped to me for free and I will still be using the Seido!!!
edit**
Also the volume and power buttons are easier to press with the Seido.. Not trying to sway anyone's opinion, just making a fair review between the two since I've used them both. I will say Otterbox has outstanding Customer Service and It would probably be more protective in a VERY hard fall, but I think the Seido will hold it's on...
Don't forget about price comparison.
The Seidio case is MSRP: US$29.95 + $5.90 shipping = 38.85
Currently no coupons can be used towards this time..
The Otterbox impact case is: $19.95 + $4.80 = 24.75
Coupon Code tb0111m (Exp 3/31).
You get 10% off at OtterBox.com! (-$2.00)
Free Shipping (U.S. orders only) (-$4.80)
New total: $17.95
I was even considering ordering the seidio case to try it out vs mine, but at $40 including shipping it's too much. I'm happy with my otterbox.
I just got my brother the otterbox commuter case for his mesmerize... It's a very nice case. Found it for around $30 shipped. I can see how someone could find it slippery... it does have a slippery feel to the back of it where there is hard plastic, but I don't think its enough that it would actually slip out of a hand. It definitely seems like it would protect in a fall though.... and it looks great. I've always been more than happy with otterbox... I currently have the otterbox defender case for my hd2, and I will buy an otterbox for whatever my next phone will be.

It definately works... I love mine, but then again I'm biased toward Otterbox cases..
Just in case anybody is looking for the Otterbox Commuter case for your Mesmerize, they sell them at Sam's Club now. They're still obviously only marketed for the Fascinate, but they are cheaper than any other place that I have seen.
I've got two BRAND new otterboxes still in the box they came in and I'm willing to sell them for $20 a peice.. Anyone local want one, let me know...
I just got a defender series case for my messmerize and its great the holster it came with is well built too.ask the holes line up fine and none of the screen is covered.

Had a couple of people lookin gor those cases.. oh well. No that was Joe Frede, last I heard before some stupid chick pulled out in front of him he had 120k miles on it, and the only thing he had done to it was having the valves adjusted twice during the bikes life span. You aren't serious, right? An air bag? Just get an Otterbox and you'll be fine. And if you want something to read a situation and deploy PRIOR to impact, you really should look into having this for a vehicle first. And really, what are you doing that you get into so many wrecks that you're worried about your phone needing it's own airbag.
I don't mean to poke fun, but seriously man, I hope you are really tired or high. When I get to work I'll call professor x to see what we can whip up for you.
From my experience even the thinner/smaller cases help a lot. Even if an airbag was feasible, it'd be overkill lol.

In all seriousness i am trying to get my post count up so i can comment in development. So you may see some useless~pointless comments from me until i hit 10 post. Yea my statement was intended more in line with funny, not to be taken seriously.
But having your attention, i did want to thank you for your work with the mez. I got froyo on her and voodoo and am stoked!!! thanks BRO!!
Should get my desire HD tomorrow and get shut of my iphone 4 but I just can't decide on a case for the thing, I'm leaning towards the case mate tough (had one for both my iPhone 4 and Galaxy S) but I find it a bit on the industrial side, the pop looks nicer but to be honest looks twice the size of the tough, I'm even contemplating just using a screen protector plus official HTC slip case.
If anyone has experience with any or all of those cases your input would be appreciated. Thanks.
I heard a lot of people are using otterbox defender and otterbox commuter. Try searching for it, you might like it.
Wouldn't get anything other than an otterbox commuter from now on for my phones, very impressed with this one

I've bought a few and my favourite is the Case Mate tough. You wont be disappointed with that one. I have recommended it a few times and others have got it and they are very happy. It improves the DHD feel and obviously offers good protection as its a dual case.
I also have the Case mate pop case thats good too. But I would say go for the Case mate Tough.
Heres a video of the Tough

I'm just wondering and not trying to piss anyone off, but... You've got a phone made out of one-piece metal, it's big enough as it is without any extra and it's almost all screen. So the question here remains why you wan't to have a case for it to begin with? I've had mine since launch and all I've got is an invisibleshield screen protector (just to keep excess fingerprints off, which it does very well, and a little scratch protection just in case) and there's not a single scratch or mark in it anywhere. I've drop it a few times and nothing. I'm just saying that all kinds of bumpers etc are an iphone thing and really not needed with the DHD, which just makes it even greater! Just flash it off as it is Just my 2 cents though.
There are quite a few threads about different cases.
I prefer this one which I reviewed in this thread. They are available under a different name for much cheaper on eBay according to other users. I love the look, lines and feel of the phone with it on.

Yeah that's the kind i got for £3 odd off of amazon, it doesn't add much to the size but it keeps it safe when I drop it and provides some protection to the screen as well
I've got the Otterbox Commuter. Feels well protected but the only draw back with this case is that the silicon cover is a dust magnet (like others made of the same material I'd imagine). It can be a little nagging when trying to pull the phone out of your pocket as well. The weight and feel of the phone in your hand is improved in my opinion -- it doesn't feel as delicate and slippery as the phone is without the case. The plastic casing is rugged, but rather smooth. If you have a dry hand, the potential of it slipping from your hands is there. I like the Case-Mate Pop idea of having a grip on the long edge of the phone.
Also, try to find an alternative cloth/material to wipe the screen down prior to applying the screen protector. The one that comes with it pretty dusty and ruined my screen protector. Use a credit card and not the flimsy applicator card.
If I'm not mistaken, the screen protector that comes with the Otterbox looks nearly identical to the ones you can get off dealextreme (specific to the DHD) for less than a couple of bucks. I wouldn't be surprised if they were in fact the same!
I have a few days to return the case. I'm 80% convinced I want to keep it only because the dust accumulation and "pocket stick" is bothering me enough. If it were a ~25$ case, I could live with it... but for $44 CAD, it's a little tough to swallow.
I'm wondering if there are any fashionable aluminum casings for the HTC Desire (I saw one, but looked a little odd with the belt-clip adapter on the back of the case). I'm also wondering if aluminum interferes with the phone's radio.
Ended up going for the pop, think it's the best looking of the lot offering the same level of protection. I will let you know how I get on with it, cheers for the input guys.

The Case mate Tough in particular greatly improves grip and feel of the phone, without it the DHD feels quite slippery and it just offers good protection.
I think increasing the grip is a bit more important (sorry that I'm posting it on this thread). But the way the DHD was designed, it's a bit awkward to hold which kinda bothers me.
so yeah, getting a case = definitely worth it =)

Got my device yesterday and I'm still thinking of getting a leather case to protect my device against slips. But I'm also looking at hard rubber casing.
S-line curve gel case black
i just received S-line curve gel case
http://cgi.ebay.ch/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...ht_1588wt_1139
its a cheap good case, stylish , doesnt add bulk , adds very good grip on that mesh at the phone's sides , buttons r easy to use and they kinda pop out of the case so they r easily reachable (unlike other gel cases).
definitely recommend it as its very cheap and offers good protection and doesnt distorts the shape of the phone much.

Yes. I got it from Yodobashi Camera (a store) in Japan.
Funnily enough, I'm supposed to be reviewing 2 more cases from the same store today, my day-off (if I can wake up). They are both SoftBank branded cases. One is a TPU case and is almost the same but is different, and one is a leather one (which to be honest I don't like).

Hey guys I just received my Skyrocket Defend case! Right when I got the package that was shipped out to me, I tore open the box to find the most beautiful case ever!!
Things I love about this case:
1. Sturdy
2. Built in screen protector
3. Belt clip, very useful for me since I drive a Ninja 650R around Fort Worth so I just clip it on my vest and connect my head phones to it and im good!
4. Outter gives out a free 1 year guarantee replacement with your purchase.
5. you can use the belt clip as a freaking stand so you can watch videos or whatever on a flat surface!
Things I dont like:
1. Freaking huge! I wear slim straight legged pants so its a little hard to get it in and out some times, its not that bad though.
2. The belt clip dose not seem that sturdy, there was times I thought it would fly off my vest, or off my belt lol. One time I got out of my 370z and it got caught on the seat belt and it fell off :/
3. The built in screen protector smudges easily, and can be blurry, or reflect a lot of light for me.
In all I have loved this case! it was a $50 price tag but honestly it was worth it! I recommended getting this case! :good::good::good:
If any of you guys have this case what do you think about it?

I love my Defender, but stopped using it because it was just too bulky for everyday use. There are two key problems with the Defender, aside from its size. One is the built-in screen protector. It blurs the image slightly and desensitizes the touchscreen, but more importantly, it actually traps dirt and dust beneath it, which could potentially scratch your screen. The built-in screen protector will lift any adhered protector right off. Fortunately, this is easy to solve, as the built-in screen protector comes right off with minimal effort.
Second, and a bigger issue, is that the plastic inner shell can scratch and damage your phone. There's no way around this, and it's a risk you take by using the Defender instead of a case with soft material hugging the phone and plastic outside.
The third issue for me was heat--the Defender was not allowing sufficient heat to escape, and my phone was constantly running hotter than it needed to. This eventually has an adverse effect on battery life, maybe even the phone itself. Taking the built-in screen protector off will probably help out tremendously here.
Also, $50? You can get them for $30 off of Amazon easily.
It's not something that I foresee myself using on a daily, even near-daily basis by any means, but it does have its uses. It's about as indestructible as cases come, and that's saying something. But as a casual daily case, it's too big and bulky. I'll use my silicone/plastic hybrid or a TPU for that.

I see what you mean, so if I wanted a real screen protector do you think I should take this one off and buy a real one to put with this case?
Thank you very much for you opinion, I wanted to hear from someone who has good experience with it and you nailed it!

Yep, either pop the built-in screen protector out or cut it with a razor blade/x-acto knife. Have an adhesive screen protector (a high-quality one, like an Invisible Shield) put on, then let it cure for 24 hours before putting the Defender on. You should be set.

I see! Well thanks a lot! The size is no problem with me, and I have not yet seen any temp change with this on my phone (YET)
I've had my Defender since January. I have the same problems as previously mentioned. I always have to take it out of the case, and clean the case and the screen.
I've had problems with the rubber part coming off of the edges; it just doesn't hug the plastic as well as it did out of the box. I've also had 2 of the clips break. They appear to be pretty fragile, so it may have been from a drop. I'm considering contacting Otterbox and attempting to get a replacement. I've heard they have great customer service.
But regardless of all that, it still protects my phone. I'm almost certain that if it wasn't for this case, I would have a cracked screen, instead of a damaged case. And although this case is rather large, I would rather have a working protected phone, than a sleek broke one.

Couldent put it any better! I'm not clumsy with my phone, but when I do drop it I want to make sure its not gonna break.
I also heard they have really good service, at least I know I will have protection for a year. I'm sure I will have a note 2 or a S3 by then
Just wait, on the top, where the headphone jack is, those two plastic pieces will rub on the phone and will actually start making grooves in the trim of your phone, like it did on mine. I was very upset by this, as well as the fact that it ended up scratching my screen from the debris that would get caught behind the built in screen protector. I found that this case actually damaged my phone more than it protected it. I hate it! Due to the negative experience i had with this case, I will never buy an Otterbox case again. Instead, I'm using a fishbone case that I got for 7.99 on amazon. i've used it for quite a few months now and have not had a single problem or complaint. it's the best case i've ever used. It fully protects my device because it has soft silicone on the interior and hard plastic on the exterior in the places that matter, like the corners.
I do find it interesting how polarizing the Defender is. It's the Juice Defender of cases--everyone either loves it or hates it. You don't really see that reaction about any other case.

might as well my 2 cents...ive had the otterbox defender for a few months now and so far i like it. I also have a commuter but needed a a case with a holster. I like the fact that I can use it as a stand but yout have to turn it upside down to use it...also the latch that holds the clip I have cracked already. also the corners are slightly flared where i have removed it only maybe once or twice...its the same on my commuter where its slighly stretched...other than that I love my case...since i bought it off amazon i may have to see about getting it exchanged thru otterbox.
How big is the phone with the case?

And its pretty big, but to me its the perfect size, fits well in my hand and snug in my pocket. There is pictures in the OP of the phone in the case.
Edit: I also wanted to say that I did take off the built in screen protector, it drove me crazy after a while. I went out and bought a really nice protector and works perfectly with the case.

yayago Premium Flip-New-Style (from Amazon).
Very good quality - leather - very good price...
I'm using the original HTC case for this phone. I got it from eBay, for about 15 Euro. It fits the phone perfectly, as expected. It's scratch-resistant and it looks just dandy. My only grief with it is that the upper front "lip" (the case has sort of a lip close to the power button and headphones jack, maybe to grip the phone a little better) had to be filed off a little, because every time i would slide the phone into the case, the lip would lift my screen protector (it was an easy 10 minute fix).
Had case but not using it anymore. It made Gsm and WiFi signal weak. Now, without case all OK.

Got one free, similar to the OP's but red. Planning on getting the Zagg full body invisible shield for it, should be good at least from the reviews.

Funny that same thing happens with my other device - Note2. And on that I am using genuine Samsung hard shell case.
I got this case from Ebay and it fits like a glove. It's also available in several colors. It's def one of the best fitting cases I've ever had for a phone. :good:

I don't really need one, but its looking nice.
It cost me about $10. I love it so much:fingers-crossed:

Sorry to reawaken a dead thread, but are you still using this case? Does the white back cover show through around the camera, or does the silicon part cover right up to the black camera cover? Considering either your one or a similar one by the same manufacturer (can't post links apparently, but the eBay item ID is 190846814472).

No problem at all. Hopefully I can help ya out.
I've moved on to the S3 so I no longer have any of these cases. The white, back cover of the SV does show through a little but not much.
Check this link out. It has the case available in 8 color combos. I ended up buying the black rubber w/ red plastic and the one with yellow rubber w/ black plastic. What's so cool about buying a couple is it allows you to mix up the cases and get more options. I had 2 cases and ended up with 4 combos. lol :good:

This case is by far one of the absolute best fitting cases I have ever had and it is very well made. The kickstand comes in very handy too.. This is saying a lot because out of all the phones I've owned, I've probably bought 30 cases. For the price, you can't beat it!!
The white showing through the camera opening is minimal. I shared this case with many of my buddies over in the Android Forums, Boost HTC One SV section and many of them ended up buying it. Every single one of them loved it and not a one said anything about the camera opening. :good:

Thanks for that! Went for red plastic on black silicone. Should get it tomorrow! I might try out the "shellster" case Amster do, seeing as it protects the screen, but it seems bulky...

Aye, this is pretty neat. There's maybe about a 3mm gap around the camera where the white shows, but it actually looks surprisingly nice with the white highlights. The kickstand is extremely tight (had to pop it out with a wee metal ruler) but I'd rather that than have it falling out all the time when I'm not using it!
Sent from my HTC One SV using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It fits like a glove too doesn't it? For the money, it's a very nice case. You can get 1 more case and end up with 4 different color combos. As I mentioned earlier, I bought the red plastic w/ blsck rubber and the black plastic w/ yellow rubber. I used the black on black combo quit a bit. I liked the yellow rubber w/ red plastic too. It was something different that stood out. Easy to spot too! LOL!!!!
I'm glad you like it. My kickstands fit tight too as you mentioned. I'm like you. I would rather have them fit tight than have them flopping open all the time.
I recommend going with Tech Armor screen protectors also. The company has an installation video that if followed correctly, will eliminate bubbles. They have a lifetime warranty too. I went with the HD clear protectors and they look great inside. They're a little difficult to see in the California sunshine though. I talked w/ a buddy of mine who bought the Tech Armor matte protectors. I just sent him one of mine today and he is sending me one of his. I know the matte will not look as good as far as screen clarity but it will probably help cut down on the glare when outside. Seeing as I'm outside a good bit, if the matte is easier to see I'll probably end up ordering a 3 pack of them.
Tech Armor makes a great product and they are well worth the $6 or $7 price tag for a 3 pack. :good:

Anyone have any suggestions for a good kickstand case, I would like something that stands both vertical and horizontal view. I do not care about branding, ebay brandless is OK by me (and cheaper). Preferably hybrid.
I am liking this one so far, but I can't find a US vendor for the color I like (lime).

What kickstand cases do you like/have?
QUESTION REVISED 4/29/14:
What is the best kickstand case under 10 bucks that I can cannibalize to remove the kickstand (to then epoxy it to my favorite S5 non-kick case)?
I used to try to find and use kickstand cases , but 2 yrs ago I cam across the flygrip which was perfect for me as I got tired of searching all the time for a case , now I an purchas any case I find and attach the flygrip directly to it , have a holder on my device to I never drop it and also a kickstand in both directions.
I haven't seen a decent case with a durable kickstand that is stable in both horizontal and vertical positions since the S3 was released (Qmadix case).
So, for my S4 I just found the coolest case and then cut a hole on the back and DIY'd my favorite kickstand (Qmadix) into it.
Unfortunately, that company no longer makes the kickstand case for any phones.
But a nice alternative is to get a stick-on kickstand.

Not durable enough for me, not any that I have seen at least.
I've been using this one for all my GS phones. Very sturdy and not overly bulky plastic that looks much nicer in person. I need only the kickstand feature (the bottom part), can't say anything about the holster.

This was a contender, but I am gun shy on hard cases. I go to the beach frequently, and sometime end up with a little sand in my pockets. A hard case will rub sand into your phone. If even the tiniest amount gets under, your phone will have massive surface damage. Also, not the greatest corner protection for drops.
I REALLY like the kickstand.

Thanks for the heads-up. In fact I never opened that case and it has gone back.
For ~$18 including shipping I was able to order an Otterbox knock off from iskyphone on eBay (since removed but they claim it will be re-listed). Camo/orange, case is identical in the way it all goes together, and the belt clip doubles as the kickstand. It's not waterproof but the phone is so that's a wash imho. The case includes a built-in screen protector which I'm not a fan of. It's not the cleanest/clearest plastic but with the brightness of the phone you can't tell any difference (again, imho). Pressing around the edges can be tricky (aka pressing the 'a' key for example), but I suppose the screen needs protecting also.
All in all I'm happy with it and also not having spent an additional $42. Perhaps the official OB is better, but probably not two thirds better.

have a peek at the youtube videos on the flygrip , there very slim and sturdy i just got my flygrip gravity new style then the original , and just love it , i keep my phone in my jean pockets a lot to , but not skintight geans , just normal , and can never feel it. if you give it a try i almost cirtian you will never go back.
also can be removed with no damage to back of phone or case as it uses 3m adhesive double sided tape to attach .
While its still listed as "under development," I've had their cases on my TB, S3, Note II and as soon as their completed my S5.

have a peek at the youtube videos on the flygrip , there very slim and sturdy i just got my flygrip gravity new style then the original , and just love it , i keep my phone in my jean pockets a lot to , but not skintight geans , just normal , and can never feel it. if you give it a try i almost cirtian you will never go back.
also can be removed with no damage to back of phone or case as it uses 3m adhesive double sided tape to attach .

It looks like an awesome product, but I have never even spent that much on a case, let alone a kickstand. $30 is pretty steep. I wonder if they ever go on sale.

I hear you on that oen , it costs me 30 buck for it and 13 to ship it to Canada , I think free or discount shipping code in the us is bbking77 might give a slight or free discount on shipping.

Put it on any case.

I have been thinking about this, and until a less sucky kickstand case becomes available, I have decided to revise the question:
What is the best kickstand case under 10 bucks that I can cannibalize to remove the kickstand (to then epoxy it to my favorite S5 non-kick case)?
Provisions:
1. All I need is the kickstand, it can be for any phone on the market. 10 year old phones even.
2. Must be able to stand vertical, and horizonal.
3. Cheap.
4. Preferably black.
Another way to phrase it might be...What is the best vertical kickstand case you have ever owned?
One vote from CZ Eddie on the q-madix case.
Anyone else?

I ended up going with a Note 3. And I'm going to do the same DIY mod again because it worked so well last time. But this time, I'm going to take my time and make it have a NICER looking cutout. But here's my DIY thread if you want to check out how I did it.

This time, I'm going to cut out the hole smaller than it needs to be. And then use a file to gently file the hole out to the correct dimensions. This should make it look more "stock" 'ish.
I recommend the Galaxy S3 Qmadix Metallix kickstand case for sourcing the kickstand part from. You can find it for $10 shipped if you look around.

Btw, in the meantime I did use the stick-on kickstand. It works GREAT, even on my Note 3.
The only problem is it creates a bulge on the back of the case that makes it so the phone doesn't sit flat in my car and home docks. And when opened, the hole under the kickstand is just a bit too small for my normal sized fingers to go through, unlike the Qmadix kickstand which my fingers fit inside the loop great.
