Hi
I want to install the ICS ruu. But first I need to upgrade my hboot since I'm still on 6.98.xxxx. It's s-off by revolutionary.
So I tried to upgrade the hboot with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858508&page=2
It didn't work.... Steps a and b work, then typing the commands in b1 wasn't possible to typs the "su", I already had this ~# after the second command. I read that this happend with others too.
The back up command (c) also worked, but then the problem comes. flashing the new hboot with the given command (d) did not work. I always get the error:
~ # dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
dd: can't open '/sdcard/hboot.img': No such file or directory
I'm sure the hboot.img is on the sdcard, I checked it several times
What am I doing wrong?
1- Check if there is the backup.img file on the SD card? Just to make sure your SD card is OK
2- Make sure your hboot.img file is valid, i.e it is not corrupt while downloading, hidden attribute was not set, etc...
1. you're right, the backup.img does not exist either. What's the problem with my sd card? I never had problems with it so far.
2. I think the file is ok, it's not hidden. I downloaded it from two different places (the mentioned guide, and another guide to install eng hboot)
what can I do to make the sd card work properly?
Try with another sd card
BTW, what is your current "software number"? What is your phone's region?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk 2
I'm running Endymion V3.5. What do you mean with phone's region exactly?
ok, I'll try with a different sd card in the evening. But I think it's strange that the card should be broken, it always works..
I have read a similar thread yesterday (I don't remember which one it was). The guys simply unmount and remount the sdcard using adb and... VoilĂ .
Thanks. I was looking for a similar problem but did not find anything. I'm going to try this too.
Thank you guys. Now I managed to upgrade the hboot. I really just had to mount the sd card again and then it worked.
No I go on an try to install the PG88IMG.zip

Crying...(while wait your answers...)
when you power on the phone, does it go to bootloader or to recovery? did you have the HardSPL installed already? and do you have a micro SD card reader
The Phone goes ONLY in Bootloader mode.
I have the MicroSD USB reader.
I have the original SPL.
kinda sounds like a bad SD card to me -- did you try another one?
ok, go to the thread that gives you the walkthrough on rooting the phone, and get the RC29 or RC7 from there, if your phone was already on RC30 or above then get the 29, if you were on rc8 or above then get RC7. then you need to format your card in the reader to FAT32. then unzip the file you downloaded a minute ago and rename the .nbh file to DREAIMG.nbh and try again. from the looks of it you had a CID error, though i have never gotten one of those so i don't know exactly what they say. try again to flash the .nbh file in the bootloader
I have change 3 SD card...but the Flash don't work.

Are you using mac to format the sdcard? Sometimes, at least for me, if I format on my mac before putting dreaming.nbh on the card mac will add extra little files to the card that the phone does not like. Make sure to FORMAT the card to Fat32, then copy the file, then do NOTHING else with it before putting it back in your phone and flashing it. Also as stated above, re-download the file to make sure it isn't a corrupted one. If this isn't your case, sorry for wasting your time.
Have you had any luck?
I also have a bricked US G1 with original SPL. I was thinking of using QMAT to create a goldcard image so I could load DREADIAG.NBH since the one I have must be CID locked / for another CID (I get the 00028002).
Thanks.
I have successfully loaded a DREADIAG.nbh for a different CID using a goldcard image. Now, some stuff in there didn't work as expected, and the service manual if a bit short on info in that area. Also, it seems to work with RUU for some things. I'll have to grab a windows box tomorrow and see what I can do there.
Hello Everyone,
For quiet some time now I've been trying to get root on my German G1 on RC9.
I've been trying to follow the guides that are on this forum, but everything on here is so scattered D:
Right now I'm having difficulties while trying to downgrade to RC7.
What I've done so far:
Get the SD Cards Serial.
Reverse it.
Zero the first two digits.
Make a goldcard image.
I then formatted the SD Card and copied the RC7 DREAIMG.NBH onto it.
After that, I went into linux to dd the goldcard on the card aswell.
Now...After I try to access the bootloader, it will Load the Image, Check the Image, and then give me the usual "not allow" error.
What am I doing wrong?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Anyone able to help me out?
How exactly did you make the goldcard.img? Did you use qmat or the online generator? I don't think that you need to reverse or zero anything for the online tool...
PM me if you need further assistance in creating the goldcard.
Yes you need to reverse the serial and zero the first byte.
@Bavilo
We need more details to help you. So post everything you did so far. (CID, commands you used to format and to flash the img, ...)
Thanks for the responses!
Here's a little more info.

(could someone generate a correct goldcard.img for me?)
I formatted the card in windows. Fat32, 4096 allocation size.
I wasn't sure on the dd part, but this is what I used:
dd if=goldcard.img of=/dev/sdd
that gave me the correct response. Although the card is called sdc1. Maybe that was the problem?
Also I do not have a usb card reader, so the card is still plugged into the G1 while I'm doing all this. Will that make it not work?
Thanks in Advance
Finally I got it!
I used the wrong node for the sd card. It was sdc....not sdd...<_<
I will be performing the downgrade now. I'll report back if there are any further problems. Stay tuned ^^
Not good D:
"Update Terminate
UPDATE FAIL"
now what...
Edit:
The SD card now seems to be dead...I can no longer format it. So I'll have to get a new one first and then attempt to update my G1 again...sighhhh
The sd card shouldnt die that easily. Try to put the card in your computer and open gparted on linux. You should see the card in the list.
If it doesnt show reinsert your card and post the output of "lsusb" and "dmesg |tail -30".
If you want i can help you in german. My jabber name is k[email protected].
Hmmm...
I'm there now too... I have a german G1 RC9 and struggle to downgrade it.
I used the 2GB card of the phone
Online generated the Goldcard.img
DD't it to the sde (thats the correct one) using a card reader
copied the DREAIMG.nbh (maybe capitalisation?) on the sd
reboot -> not allowed and a red number ->Bootloader ->nothing
Did I miss anything? maybe first copy and the dd? I thought I tried it.. but hard to remember at 2am and fixing the filesystem 'cause I dd't to sda Grrrrr
Ok I managed to root my phone now!
Turns out that the slot for the mircosd card on my card reader was busted...<_<
Also the reason the Update Failed in the first place, was because I copied the extracted DREAIMG.NBH file onto the sdcard using ubuntu. Which must have corrupted it.
The way that made it work was to go into windows, move the RC7.zip onto the sdcard, and extract it on the sdcard. The update passed the first time
Thanks to everyone who has helped me!

Using linux do a "dmesg" and check the node name of your sd card. Make sure you dded the goldcard onto the right sdcard. If you still get the "not allow" error, then you're goldcard is at fault. Maybe you didn't type the correct cid?
I finally managed it:
The mistake was:
Most howtos say, after reversing the CID you should add 00 at the beginning and use this to make the goldcard.
WRONG! I just used the reversed String and this finally made it possible.
Hope this helps
can someone genrate me please a correct goldcard?

Hi,
I've a weird issue with my SD card. I've done a backup using RA but since i rebooted, my android does not recognise the sd.
I've plugged my sd into my laptop and i do see all files but nothing when i insert it into my android.
When i'm in recovery mode, i've got this log:
lun0: unable to open backing file: /dev/block/mmcblk0 in "dmesg"
I do not understand how my sdcard could be broken ?
Thanks
Ced
Up Up Up....
Any idea where this log comes from. Is this an hardware issue on the phone.
I've swapped my old microsd card by a new one but same result so i'm leading to a potential SD card problem.
Any body has an explanation for this log "lun0: unable to open backing file: /dev/block/mmcblk0" ?????
Thanks

up up
I've looked a little bit more:
So when i boot using the recovery-RA image version 1.2.3h or the lastest recovery-RA-saphire.1.5.2.H, i cannot see my sdcard
connecting via adb i can see that in /dev/block/ there is no device mmcblk0
In dmesg, i see the qualcomm MSM SDCC controller.
Question:
- What are the conditions to see this mmcblk0 ?
- Is there a way to turn on debug under the recovery-saphire image to track down the issue and mmc events ?
Thanks

SDCard not being read by phone due to phone entering memory debugging mode
To run this fix, you should have .qxdm files on your sd card in the fat32 root directory generated by the phone. These are memory debug files generated by the phone, as your phone has entered a memory debugging state. If you do not see those files on your sd card this fix does not apply to you.
Depending on your problem you may need to change your SPL.
Note that your fastboot might be S-ON, so you wouldn't be able to flash from recovery.
Case 1) HBOOT version 1.76.x.x (you have a 32A Magic or Hero)
In this case your fix is simple. Get your phone in fastboot mode, and run the following command. There are many guides on how to perform fastboot, which I am not repeating here:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
Case 2) Your HBOOT says 1.33.x.x or something else
First make sure you have radio 2.22.19.26I. If you don't, make sure you have the appropriate recovery. You can use the recovery flash_image command to flash one.
After this, downgrade your ROM to HSPL, then back to whatever SPL you were using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455860
When I did this for my G1/Dream I also made sure I was on radio 2.22.19.26I with the correct recovery before downgrading to the HSPL. You might not need this radio to work with this SPL, but better safe than sorry.
* * *
These are possible solutions. If this doesn't work something else is wrong.
I only have seen case 1 for the hero. The other cases might work for other phone models, but the cases I have presented should be sufficient.
And post to Q&A instead of dev next time
xaueious > do you have a link to a proper guide for that?
As Undeads thread has been closed, I needed to start again.
Basically when flashing the new 5.0.2.7 recovery with any method, via Rom Manager or ADB Fastboot the recovery just doesn't work proper.
My sdcard can't mount, hence I can't navigate nor install any roms?
Performing backups & restores don't work for me either.
I've had to roll back to 4.0.0.9, annoying because I want to try out Blues Bulletproof.
Please someone what is the definitve solution to getting the officion CWM recovery to work as I'd expect.
I've even tried a :
fastboot erase system -w
before fastboot flash recovery 'recoveryimage'.img
Rolling back to 4.0.0.9 allows me to do everything as per usual in recovery, but not with 5.0.2.7
I'm really quite baffled with this
1 - Download the recovery via real computer.
2 - Plug in your doubleshot, transfer to sdcard main directory.
3 - Disconnect from computer, use a root file manager (root explorer preferred) to copy the image from /sdcard to /data/local
4 - Open up terminal emulator.
5 - Type:
Code:
su
6 - Then type:
Code:
dd if=/data/local/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7-doubleshot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21
*Make sure all letters are lowercase. You will have to juggle the hardware/software keyboard to get the first "i" after "dd" to be lowercase. Try typing a few characters past it, then using the trackpad to move the cursor back to it. Keep trying the hardware and software keyboards until it sticks as a lowercase "i"
7 - Let it transfer, then exit terminal emulator.
8 - Reboot into recovery, should be good.
**Note - pay close attention to the file name for the image. What Undeadk9 typed into his guide is wrong, what I typed here is correct.
Post if you have any further issues.
Edit:
"if" stands for "input file".
"of" stands for "output file".
dd
One thing I love about the official clockwork recovery is the ability to mount the sdcard while plugged into the computer, and drag and drop files to and from the sdcard while the doubleshot is in recovery mode.
Good luck, hope to see it working for you soon.
Thanks, but still same issues
Hi Blue,
I'm still getting the same errors dude.
I just tried your method, hence I've now tried to install the new recovery with all 3 methods (adb fastboot, rom mamanger and this dd terminal command.)
They all flash/install correct, and when rebooting into recovery each time it looks fine.
But when I try to navigate to 'sdcard' (install zip from sd card/choose zip from sd card... i get "E: Cant't mount /sdcard/"
When I go to mounts & storage/mount sdcard, again I get "Error mounting /sdcard!"
When I attempt a backup, I get this "Can't mount backup path."
I hope you can decipher my mayhem here...... very weird!
Maybe it's my sdcard - however, it works as perfect on modaco 4.0.0.9, I'm unsure on whats going on here

if you are using an older version of a rom you have to mount system and data.
Try mounting those and then trying to install from an sd.
If I were you I would do a full wipe /formatsystem/data/dalivk/sdcard. Backup the important things on the sd card to the computer and start fresh with an updated rom and a clean sd card.
You could always try swaping your sd card out but i dont think its the problem. The older roms make running the NEW CWM much more difficult than it should be.
I am not sure it appears you are trying to get an older ROM to run with the new CWM.

All seems well.
BUTTTTTTTT when i tried to do a backup of my current virtuous rom i get an error: "can't mount target path"
And then when testing the restore i get an error: "can't mount path /sdcard"
And when testing the wipe & format options, instead of the traditional Yes or No.... I now have like 10 No options and 1 Yes option.
Something seems bogus, ive reinstalled the recovery twice but same effect.
Anyone??

so am I the only one who literally can't get this recovery to work at all? perhaps I should contact koush and get him a log... basically, it won't mount my SD card. sd card is not defective as I can mount it fine through modaco recovery without any issues.

I'm sure I saw it around here somewhere, hell if I know where off the top of my head. I am pretty sure it involved formatting the sd-card if memory serves right.
I have to go, will be on the road for a bit then tied up with the family of my Lady for a bit, so not sure when I can check back in.
Hopefully pmcqueen happens to see this and posts the missing info that was not updated...
I realize I quoted you from the other thread, so this issue has been hanging for you for a while? We need to figure out how to solve it - wish I could be more focused on your problem at the moment.
Try formatting your sdcard through Clockworkmod.
If you can't try powering off the phone and formatting the card directly in your computer.
It sounds like you have Clockworkmod successfully updated to the 5.0.2.7 version, but now reading the sdcard is the problem.
Can you try a different MicroSD card, do you have another one?
What ROM are you using? Becaause anything that dates before the official ROM.manager release date was unmounted. Basically there was a feature that the new ROM doesn't have. Undeadk9 confimed this in that thread. Everything you need to know is there. They go into full detail as to why it wasn't working. Even decided to open a full wiki about why. Did you even read it?
Basically you have to manually mount. Also in the rom try scrollong down and keep going until it unlocks.

Not sure if you already tried this, but if you haven't, try doing:
Get the SD Formatter here and format your sd card (use a card reader if necessary).
Use quick format, but make sure "Format Size Adjustment" was off (all available under options...)
Two reminders:
1. The recommended filesystem for an android SD Card is FAT32
2. Remember to back up whatever you have in the SD card so you can put them back in once you're done formatting
Thanks for all the input guys.
Will try an sd format etc and report back soon.

I can almost guarantee you formatting the sd will fix your problems with sd mounting in 5.0.2.7
You won't be able to do it via cwm recovery (it's not able to even recognize the sd, that's why you're having mounting issues) but if you put the card into an sd reader and format it for a normal fat32 partition I bet that fixes it.
So I just thought I'd chime in here...
I recently updated from Modaco to CWM and had this sd card issue however, I have like 10 different sd cards and the first thing I did was put the ROM I was trying to install on a sd card with nothing on it and BAM it worked. I'm going to try and put my 16gig back in after everything settles in the rom and I'll update with the results. tomorrow.
Hi guys,
similar issue here
I can't make a backup or restore, I can't install somethink because I always get "Can't mount sdcard"
any idea?
thanks
Oh damn I completly forgot to post my results.
Sd card needed a reformat, then the new recovery was able to mount sd etc.
Thanks to everyones 2cents in this thread, helped me out.

I've tried to format but without result
Did you try SD Formatter using a PC? I was able to resurrect a dead 16gb microSD using that method.

Boot into recovery 5.0.2.7 and make backup. All good.
Hello,
I rooted my tf101, all went well. Put clockworkmod recovery on it and still no problems. Now I wiped all partitions by mistake of my tf101. The only thing left is the recovery image (cwr) but if i try adb tool to push a file on the system it says the system is readonly. If i try nvflash tool is also says error onable to write and it disconnect the tf101.
Can any body help me, or do i have to put it back to repair
thanks Ernst
Well, if you have a microSD card, and a CWM that can read from it, you could just hook the card up to your PC (using a phone with microsd slot, or a cardreader, etc) and place the new image on the card.
Also, have you tried running 'adb root' to make sure ADB is running as root?
@Goatshocker
I tryed to insert a microSD card, but cwr does not recognize it, at least it does not appear in the menu structure.
Also tryed adb root, it sayed hat it is already in root.

I have indeed version 5.5.04, have read the tread you mentioned, but no solution. My problem is that if i try to push a file to the TF than it says "read-only file-system". Tryed in cwr to fix permisions, but no help.
Problem stays the same.
@kokopopz Thanks for your link.
I Found the solution !!!! My TF is UNBricked. YES YES YES.
For the record: "adb push rom.zip /data/media/rom.zip" will do the trick, after that reboot to cwr and do install zip from sdcard.
