Rooted, flashed Virtuous ROM, now what else to do? - HTC Sensation

Hey all,
I have a very fun and exciting cell phone now thanks to rooting my phone and installing the Virtuous Inquisition ROM on my phone.
However, now that I've done all that, I've got the itch to do more to my phone. I really like VI as a ROM, but is there anything else I can do to my phone?
Thanks!

Flash hypernonsense, it's like VI but with the remaining few bugs fixed, better battery life (with stock kernel) and a later ICS build. Make sure you have firmware 3.33 to avoid reboots.

I've been tempted to flash hypernonsense too, as its basically like an updated VI. How is firmware 3.33, do you have any wifi signal issues and if so where are you based? Its the only thing holding me back, as I've seen people saying that their wifi is affected after upgrading to 3.33.

I'm in the UK, 3G signal strength is improved and wifi is no different than it was in VI - it all works perfectly including tethering.
The biggest improvement is battery life - over 1d 16hrs, with 5 to 7hrs screen on time is the norm now (using the Anker 1900).

Thanks, im also in the UK, so might just give this a shot. Just biding my time for a fully stable CM10 release as it doesnt seem to far away now, so will feed my flashing needs for now. Also been looking at the Anker battery, looks good value for a tenner. On the stock battery on VI, I'm getting around 20-24hr(+) with 3-3.5 hrs screen on time.

I'll check it out. I think I had HyperNonSense before I had VI and switched for some reason.
Thanks.

Does this rom have any bugs that stop you using it on a daily basis?
I'm experiencing a GPS issue with CM9.1 so may need an alternative but I'm not keen on sense anymore so want to stick with the whole stock android look/feel.
Really like the way CM9 works in comparison to CM7, it may just be the change over from gingerbread to ICS but its awesome.

You can find the "bug" list for this Rom .and for all other roms on the first page of download section .'

So you think this could be one of the closest roms to CM9? In terms of user interface and features?
(Sorry for the noob questions, I've only ever used 2 roms. CM7 and CM9!)

I have no idea, never installed either of those. I aim for a lightweight ROM with maximum battery life as I need the phone for what it can do, rather than eyecandy and features I don't use.
It's as close to an AOSP ROM that has everything working, if that helps.

How is CM7 working now? when I had one, it would drop data, boot with no data, and the battery drivers were all screwed up...how is it now? Have a lot of the mistakes been corrected from the original G2x's that were shipped? (reboots, data drops, etc)...??? Any help would be appreciated. Tired of this Single core phone, and found a good deal on a G2x.

Mine is working great.. Came running 2.3.3 with no problems. I rooted and left stock rom for awhile still no problems. Then flashed faux123's oc/uv kernel ran fantastic. Tried a few different roms and settled on triggers 8/22 2.3.5 rom with faux123's oc/uv kernel as my daily driver with no problems so far...

Running the CM7 nightly on my G2x for past two days. Haven't noticed any problems. Been stable, battery life is good.
The APN Issue is still there, but it no longer drops data. Battery life is AMAZING now.

I've been running MIUI. WiFi Calling isn't working yet (which sucks) but I'm using Faux's 4.2 Kernel and getting great battery life and very little issues.
With Faux's kernel, WiFi will sometimes fail which requires a restart, and sometimes using USB Mass Storage will lock up.
Sounds bad, but aside from WiFi calling not working, the other issues are pretty rare.

yes one of the most stable roms, it is based off stock 2.3.3 but imo way better with the edt tweaks such as lockscreens and battery configurations, very fast and reliable
By the way. Has the reboot issue been fixed if i flash the newest weapon?

For me, I had absolutely no reboots at all on the newest version until I went and flashed Faux's OC/UV kernel. To be fair, my battery life is plenty better, just a little unstable. Weapon by itself is amazing.
EDIT: Forgot to say I came from 2.3.5, so I came from a complete wipe.

[Q] difference between MIUI.US and MIUIAndroid

Hi,
I would like to know the differences between MIUI.us and MIUIAndroid for HTC DesireS. On US version, in standby mode the battery consumption is about 10-12mA, but on localized Czech MIUI (MIUIAndroid) i get about 20mA. Are there some kernel or undervolting changes compared to MIUIAndroid, which would explain this differences?
Or is it just different current measurement.... I was testing it on 1.11.25 and 1.12.2 with battery monitor widget. Then i would just reflash the same version with dalvik/cache wipe, same programs were running on background + wifi,BT,sync OFF.
Thanks a lot,
Peter

20mA is very, very high!!
I'm currently using the MIUI.us 1.12.2 release, without any modifications to the kernel, and using Battery Monitor Widget pro, i see that my standby battery drain is 5mA to 7mA per minute, with wifi or mobile data connected (Sync governed periodically by Tasker automation).
You are probably closer to the BTS then me, but 7mA is close to 10ma. If you would change to MIUIAndroid, i bet your battery drain goes to 15-20mA. Therefore i was wondering what makes the difference between two MIUI ROMS of the same version...

I'm on all the ROMs almost everyday! See my sig!
I can restore nand im my sleep now, going from one ROM to the other Endy, MIUI, ICS beta, CM, Galnet releases, etc etc... sometimes all of them in a day... hence the sporadic nature of my support and answers to queries all over the forum!
My phone suffers from this Split personality disorder so much so, that sometimes i lose track of what ROM i'm on, and when i got onto it!
My current thoughts about MIUI 1.12.2 --- Best release yet. I have NEVER seen this low a battery drain on ANY ROM! Period. And you, of all people, know that i've used all of them!

[Q] Is it worth flashing to CM7?

I got my HTC Desire S yesterday and updated it to the latest stock ROM OTA.

Cheers

That's the good thing about a rooted phone. Do a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM, and give it a try. We all have different tastes and preferences.
CM9 is also round the corner.

Only you can answer that question as snappy is one of those perception issues like battery life. As the previous poster suggested, do a nandroid backup of your current stock ROM setup and start flashing. If you don't like it restore your nandroid backup and you will be back in business.
When I switched from stock rom to cm7 a few months ago, I thought I had a new phone considering the speed advantage I noticed. To me a very important feature of cm7 is the control of application rights. E.g. if you don't like a torch-app to access your personal data you can search an alternative torch app or you can just deny the app the permission you don't want to give (and hope the app will still work).
Battery life improved greatly going from sense to CM7 for me. Overall the experience was much smoother. I felt like I had a new phone again.

Check for some apps that can drain battery.
With the same version installed and only some Gapps from the package, with Tiamat kernel /smartassv2 governor at max ~900 MHz I had up to 5 days running time between charges.

Apps that can drain battery are those that all the time are trying to access a network, or GPS service or syncing etc.
Hell yes!
I love CM7! I like AOSP. I have been using Sense since I got the phone, but now decided to give CM ago..
The speed is incredible. Its much faster than Sense. I love the simplicity in some aspects too.
However, I miss some sense features.

I think if you are happy with your ROM, why change it? You can change it in the future anyway, if you realize, that stock ROM is not good enough any more.
In my case, I also tried CM7 and I do not like it. Do not take me wrong, I believe it is a very good ROM, but I just cannot be without HTC Sense, that's all. So my last stock ROM was 2.3.5 and after long research for custom ROMs, I found one, Endymion. It is great ROM and with Sense 3.5.
The only reason for another one in the future is this one is not going to be with ICS.
The great thing about Sense imo is that it is an all-in one package. For example the weather widget, calendar widget and many more. Whereas CM7 is more customizable to your liking, but with increased performance and better battery life.

Me too. Battery life is very short using Pacman v18.0, at most 5 hours. The screen is the process that consumes more battery. Maybe it is only a my problem, but with Fallout v.5 I didn't have this problem (but others :laugh.
Well I find the battery life good on pure CM10.
If it wasnt for the graphics glitches when browsing, it'd be a really good ROM!
I have installed Pacman v18.0 about 3 days ago and am very impressed with the ROM. No problem with battery life but one major problem with the phone randomly going into Sim Lock mode. Could be after 5 minutes, could be after 5 hours and sometimes while just using it.
PACman, way to go.
I'm using Andromadus CM10.1 and battery is good...Overall is good except Bluetooth that doesn't work yet...

some people prefer to UV their kernels. Some people don't prefer. Some kernels allow UV, some don't. see it all comes down to preference,of course UV also may cause performance to decrease. so it stills come down to preference.

Hmm, when ppl say try it yourself, it simply means that u would have to flash the rom to know what's best for u.
Everyone uses his/her phone differently, so basicly there is no ideal rom that pleases everyone.
Everyone will you give a different opinion in terms of battery/speed/etc. That's why it is a bit pointless in asking what's the "best rom" for the other person when the usage is different.
So no point having second doubt and just flash the phone, try every single rom, i have flash from sense to cm to ics and now back to gb.
Go ahead and experiment the roms for yourself. Today someone might give u a suggestion, the next day a another. that's why it is consider pointless in asking such question as 'which is the best can u recommend me' and much better to try it for yourself instead of being shortchange in case there is another better than that is being suggested.

THANKS in ADVANCE Folks!!!

are AOSP/CM roms on par with the Sense 4 roms (like ViperXL, etc.)

hi guys,
I have been running ViperXL for the past one year. However, I have been longing for stock android for a long time. However, the last time I tried CM/AOKP (couple of months back) - the feature set was not on par with Sense 4 ROMS - mainly around driver issues.
For e.g. there were bluetooth problems, HDMI/MHL did not work, battery life was much worse, etc. I was wondering if that has gotten fixed and original android roms are on par with the Sense based roms.
FWIW - I'm not actually worried about the power features like some notification bars, etc. but basically fundamental performance and functional comparisons.
For a long time, AOSP ROMs have had as many/more features than Sense ROMs and everything works just fine. The battery life isn't quite as good, but it's acceptable.

You may try the stable cm10 rom. Its good.
Cm10.1 is good, plus has a new 3.4 kernel, which in your case may not be suitable, unless few little bugs don't bother you a lot.
You can also try sense 5 roms, but then again, no Bluetooth as of now.
Try Rebeless rom. Its based on stock sense4+ but gives you an Aosp feeling.
I hope this helped. :good:

thats what I'm worried about - my phone is work critical to me. I need to be available on phone, chat, email all the time. Which is why I'm concerned that there is no real replacement for Sense based ROMs in terms of stability and performance. Extra features ? maybe - but that's not what I need.
If you really want to use aosp you could try one of the 4.1 ROMs. In particular, the King Kang ROM by Rohan is awesome. It never missed a beat for me, and had the great customization that aosp offers.

IMHO if your phone is used for work you shouldn't even root it... That's a huge security risk for any data kept on your phone.
I would have a separate phone for work and for rooting.

Overall sense Roms feel smoother, and aosp Roms feel faster.
