so i have been attempting to get service to return on my one s for about 8 hours now, and cant figure it out for the life of me, i bought it on ebay a little while ago and its been sitting in a box since, i just opened it up tonight and before i did anything i put cm 9 on it which worked fine for the most part, but there was no service, and it wouldnt register with the network (tmobile usa) so i reverted to stock, but still no signal, so back to cm, nothing, reflashed it 3 times but still no luck. so i tried flashing different versions of radios to see if that would help, did stock tmous version and the most current EU version, but nothing. i just flashed miui through clockwork manager hoping for some luck but im still facing the same issue, anyone have any thoughts? could it be a possible blacklist?
It could possibly be black listed... However, that might not be the case.
On my HTC One X I had no service when an incompatible RIL was used with a new radio. RILs and radios change depending on what ROM is flashed.
Is your phone unlocked? (Can you use it on multiple networks?)
no it isn't unlocked, and so a general radio update for cm wouldnt work then? how would i go about finding which version is specific for my phone?
I would call T-mobile to see if the phone have been blacklisted.
I see a lot of these on Ebay and Craiglist getting blacklisted because peoples buy it on an installment plan, sell the phone and don't make the payment.
called up tmobile today, the phone hasnt been blacklisted from what they see, so im assuming the issue is with the radio? a lot ive people ive seen have had this issue, but no solution seems to be working for me

Have you tested the phone when you bought it on ebay? Also user that sold you the phone on ebay, won't know anything about the phone, so you could just get your $ back, unless seller knows phones well.
i tested it to an extent, the phone turned on ok and such, didnt try making a call though unfortunately =( should i still just attempt to return though?

Oh boy. I've done something ..interesting.. to my new nexus s. Could you guys help me?
Okay, So I've been running miui for about a month now, and today I decided I will try the oxygen rom, along with a new radio (K3B). I flashed the radio over miui and all was fine.
Next I wiped and installed oxygen. No service. I couldn't even view available networks. I had a play around with the service menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and changed regions etc, but no luck.
The next thing I did was to try and revert to stock, by following the unlockrs guide (http://theunlockr.com/2011/01/20/how-to-unroot-the-nexus-s/). This seemed strange to me, as it was only a nandroid backup. Now I'm on 'stock' with no cell radio and a small wifi only tablet.
So, my real question is, can I fastboot or ODIN back to complete stock (radio, system, recovery, etc) or are there any other fixes for this problem?
Thanks! I'm desperate :S
Which Nexus S you got? Which ROMs you flashed exactly? Which radio did you flash, never heared of KB3b?
I'd assume you have a i9020T (since you used the GRH78 nandroid backup)? Then you could use the ROM in my sig to flash back to stock.
However, I never flash any nandroid backup that isn't my own, especially if they are crossing release numbers, eg 2.3.5 to 2.3.3.
I have the i9020T, flahsed the XXKB3 Radio (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884).
I don't think flashing back to stock helps too much
Go here and get yourself a flashable full ROM for the i9020t, it will include a fitting radio (and a stock recovery). Remember to wipe everything before installing the ROM via cwm recovery. I'd also format stuff in "Mount and storage" (except sdcard for obvious reasons ).
Tried that. No success. I also used ODIN to revert to stock again. No success. Tried all the radios available for i9020t, none of them work.
My IMEI is intact still, my baseband /should/ be working, I really don't see anything more I can do except assume its a hardware issue. I'll give samsung a call now and see what I can do. Thanks for your help.
Maybe your carrier banned your IMEI for w/e reason.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I've tried multiple sim cards, and even if my carrier did block me (why would they do that?) I would still be able to at least view other network operators (and mine) in the Mobile networks menu.
Well multiple sim cards NOT working in your device could mean your IMEI is banned. Carriers block IMEIs for several reasons, stolen phones, contract abuse, carrier crossing, unpaid bills, etc etc.
Contact them and ask. If they didn't block anything you're still one step closer to solving the problem, next step exchange the SIM card, final step would be to contact Samsung and have them check for faulty hardware.
I'm starting to think thats the case.. My original sim card is dead and won't work in other phones now.
What I really don't understand is why they would blacklist me. I've been with my carrier for two years, since they started up. I'm a prepaid customer, so no unpaid bills. My phone is brand new, purchased it at Best Buy in the US four weeks ago
Maybe they were mistaken? I'll call them later in the day.
Ugh. I talked to my service provider, they said they couldn't do anything and were very unsure. They handed me over to samsung, who were unbelievably unhelpful and told me to turn my phone off and on, and that they couldn't do anything more. Just sent an email to my service provider hoping I get someone more 'higher up' who can deal with it.
Hi everybody. Hopefully I am posting this in the right section. I have a Tmobile G2x running CM7 nightly 201. I purchased the phone new (ebay) a couple of months ago. The phone has run relatively smoothly since CM7 installation, until yesterday.
Then, suddenly stopped connecting to the voice, data networks. It will connect via wifi, but would not connect/register for data or voice. It is driving me crazy and is now essentially useless. I have tried to reinstall CM7, I performed system restore to stock rom but the problem persists. It must be an issue with phone since my sim card would work in a different phone, and other sim cards will not work on my G2x.
I have tried to use GetRIl to change baseband. I am now running M6600A-SCAUNTZ-2.0.9720T 1 and I am back to stock rom.
Not sure if there is any way to solve this issue. Should I just resign to buy a new phone? Any solution/setting that I am missing? Can I send back to LG/tmobile a phone which has ClockworkMod Recovery on it? Sorry for the many questions.
You said you went back to stock rom, but did you do a complete restore??

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried restoring to original stock, then erasing all user data. I also tried several times wipe data/factory reset from ClockworkMod Recovery menu. Unfortunately no solution.
Wow, have you tried working as a comedian for a living?
May not be what you want to hear, but it is possible the seller sold you a stolen phone and it has be blocked. You may want to go to T-Moble and have it checked out.

This, maybe. Also try getting a new SIM card from tmo.
Also, check the IMEI before buying used phones. Even if your phone doesn't happen to be stolen, this is still a good idea.
Thanks. The phone was new from a 100%, long-time Ebay seller. Is there any official website to check for validity of IMEI?
I am going to check with T-mobile but there is also a thread showing other people with similar issue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17660686
Unfortunately, no solution posted. If anybody else has comments/alternative solutions, they will be greatly appreciated.
i posted this on another website's forum yesterday...sorry for those who read it twice, but i got no responses and am desperate.
so my launch day phone had a bit of an accident last weekend the screen cracked. I was able to get another thunderbolt from someone, was originally a refurb (tag under battery says "remanufactured in Philippines" )
any who I've been using the refurb one for about a week now, no major issues. But now today I can't get LTE at all...I've tried reflashing different radios, going back to sense over CM7...nothing. Put the same sim card in another phone right next to it, LTE.
What else can I do? thanks in advance
Have you installed an app recently that is messing up the phone? Have you checked to see if LTE is active on the phone? *#*#4636#*#* and check your phone info. Could always try flashing another radio.
Why does everyone start flashing radios and performing hard resets on their phones when a signal problem shows up? Wouldn't it be wise to contact Verizon first and make sure it isn't their problem? If you haven't changed anything on your phone, there's a 99% chance that verizon is having an off day.
nothing comes to mind that i would of installed that triggered this.
tried different radios.
called verizon to see what they can do. Looks like I can get a replacement phone shipped out. Now to return to stock. thanks.

I'm surprised the VZW rep didn't tell you that it's because the 4G sim cards are paired with your phone. I tried to swap 2 4G phones on my account in the past and I was told that the 4G cards are associated to the phones and they would need to send me out new 4G sim cards. This was a while ago, so I'm not sure if it's still valid, but I would think that they'd have a way to re-link the sim cards on their end.
Good luck with this.
I have 2 One X's, one with an broken screen (#1), one new (#2). So I unlocked the bootloader and flashed CM10 nightlies on #1 successfully. When I put the SIM card from #2 into #1 however, I'm not able to connect to AT&T's network. I haven't been able to find an answer.
I have tried connecting to AT&T under the "network operators" in settings and have also tried changing the APN and then connecting AT&T, not working. It displays "cannot connect at this time, please try again later".
Anybody got a solution to my troubles? Thanks in advance.

Well, after I broke the screen on the first one and tried fixing it myself unsuccessfully I bought a brand new one on ebay that ended up having some pretty bad bluetooth issues, so I brought it in to AT&T and they exchanged it for me for free. So I guess #2 is really #3. Does that help clarify anything?
No sorry I don't have any other ideas. My idea was just a wild random guess sorry.

Maybe i'll try a couple other ROMs. If that doesnt work, then I suppose I can relock the bootloader and install the RUU HTC gave me, swap the SIMs and see if that even works. If not, it might be safe to assume that the issue is in the hardware.
If it is in fact the hardware, then maybe I'm confident enough to just do this to my main phone (also HTC One XL). Is the radio not working something that I should ever be concerned about when flashing a custom ROM?
Fixed this a while ago, wanted to share what I did. It was as simple as turning airplane mode on and then off. Then wala it worked.
I dropped my phone yesterday and cracked the screen to the point where it doesn't even light up. My softkeys light up fine and it still rings when I call it but the LCD is completely dead. Does anyone know where I can get a new one for a reasonable price? I'm so heartbroken!

Do you have a link. The cheapest I have found on ebay are over 200 and those come from China so who knows if they even work. Samsung charges $180 to replace a screen? Thats an awesome deal since you can't even buy the screen for that much from what I can see. Do you have a link to where I have to go to get Samsung to fix it?

Cool. I contacted Samsung via their online chat and the person I talked to said that they will replace my screen for $135. I can't believe its that cheap. As you can see you can't even buy the screen for that much. I'm going to put a formal request in and see if that price jumps up. If Samsung will fix it though then I'm thinking thats the way to go. Hopefully they don't care that I have my bootloader unlocked and have a custom ROM on it.

I'm pretty sure they will. If you had USB debugging enabled before your screen died, try to adb reboot download and flash back the stock ROM, just to be safe. Otherwise try and use the Volume Down+Home+Power combo then press volume down then power again to enter download mode (while the phone is off)

Do you think they would care? I'm not sending it in under warranty. I'm paying to have them fix it. I would think at the very least might just flash a stock ROM and maybe relock the bootloader. I mean they do sell a developer version of my phone so its not like flashing a custom ROM is a capital crime. I think Verizon is the driving force between locking that down. Anyone have any insight into if this will be problem?

Alright the verdict is in. I sent the phone and I just got it back yesterday. The phone has a brand new screen but also has a brand new stock ROM installed. It appears that they slammed the factory load over my rooted ROM and unlocked bootloader, leaving me with 100% stock phone. Its annoying but I can understand why they would want to have a clean load on there so they can test all the phones functionality. The problem is my phone seems to have lost its ability to connect to 4g now. It connects fine to 3g but not 4g. I called Verizon and they believe the problem is phone related because when I put my SIM into my Galaxy Nexus 4g loads up just fine.
I went through the root/bootloader unlock process again so I could load my old ROM to see if my 4g would start working but still no love. Any thoughts on what I could try to resolve this?

I have a similar issue. Since the radios are integrated (right?) I am assuming my 4g is not fried (got it off eBay). I am thinking the connection between the 4g antenna and the radio is severed somehow. Haven't gotten around to checking it out (always on wifi) but when I do I'll try to update if I am successful with fixing it.
Probably worth going to a Verizon company store and get a new sim card. There free at company stores and 15.00 at retailers. But DON'T Dial *228 with a 4g phone, it can mess up the sim. After getting new sim, check radios and see what you have installed. I would try a few different one to see what works best with your phone and flash rpm also. If you unlocked, check it or run ezunlock again version 1.2 has been reported to work better than the latest.
Goid luck

Actually I got mine working. The issue was that Samsung didn't fix my phone. They replaced it with a new one and just reflashed the same IMEI. The problem was that whatever process they use to flash the IMEI doesn't jive well with Verizons registration system. I talked to customer care for a few hours and they finally said I should try a new sim card. I was scepitcal but the guy at the Verizon store activated a new SIM for me and after the phone powered back up I had 4g. Apparently the new SIM card retriggered whatever activation that was required to resync the all the numbers. Might wan to try getting a new SIM.
It now makes sense to me why my phone appeared to be wiped so thoroughly. It was actually a brand new phone. Not a bad deal for $135.
