Quick Question About Setup T-Mobile? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I'm on my phone I ordered a T-Mobile phone but I need to wait for the activation number. My Question is should I wait till I activate it to root it? I never used a phone with a SIM card? Any help would be appreciated and Thanked. Right now I'm using a Samsung Epic 4G running CM9.

Yes.
I'd wait until you know you don't have a lemon before you do anything non-stock to it.

That's a good point thanks

It has to be approved by the FCC/DOJ/etc. I seriously doubt it'll get approved. Sprint is fighting this. And no, it wouldn't be a stupid idea. It's a good phone, people are over exaggerating about this purchase.
The other alternative if I was to make a phone purchase would be the G2x probably but that phone isn't unlocked so... Nexus S is purely unlocked from the beginning including ability to unlock the bootloader.

There are checkins to the aosp repo that reference an at&t radio (kb2) for the crespo (ns), so there is hope if you have the patience to see if it becomes a reality.

An ATT version is coming very soon from solid rumors, so you really should just wait a few weeks to get the proper working version if it comes out.

Need help!!!

So i bought my girl a sidekick 4g because it was $100 on craigslist and seemed like a good spare. Today she decided to use it and her data wasnt working so she called t-mobile and they said it could not be used due to fraud. So... How do we make it possible to be used?
Edit: Data works now...but no texts or calls. I really don't wanna be down the $100 I spent on this POS.

That's what I was afraid of hearing. Funny that it took about 24 hours to kick in. What's worse is that the phone was in the box sealed so I just thought they were in need of holiday cash. The good news is that I might have found a solution but I'm gonna have to root. Man oh man... If I can just get it to work then I will not have to be down. I guess even breaking even at this point would suffice.
U got a proper sim card in it? U can still use wifi with it being sim card less

Yes. Her other phone is a myTouch 4G and she just wanted something to change out to when her battery died (which is all the time) and was bored. She was still gonna use it as a phone.
I have never heard of tmo doing this. If you have another 4g phone. .. just use that to add 4g data to that particular line. then put that sim card into the sidekick.
Tmo uses gsm, not cdma and such like verizon and sprint. they have no way to see if phone is stolen or not, they can't block it like like esn numbers on verizon and sprint.
good luck
just have to have a 4g card with your daughters sim in it, call in, tell them you want 4g data on that account.
that's it. I did it. it works,
good luck

Its because its a stolen phone. I would hope if they stole your phone TMobile would make it harder to profit from that theft.

No it wasn't reported stolen from what the rep said. They said it was fraud. I asked for more details but i couldnt get more. After doing careful research, T-Mobile will block IMEI's only when it is beneficial to them. That does not mean protection for customers though.

When we met up with the guy she focused on trying to make the call first and since it worked i proceeded to pay. Dont ask me why the hell i never thought of waiting for data to kick in. (Which it didnt for two days at which point calling and texting became impossble on the phone.)

Can You Flash the Verizon Galaxy SIII to Sprint?

I am going to buy the S4 soon and my brother said he would take my S3 off my hands, but he is on Sprint. So anyway...is it possible to flash over? ...I know LTE wouldn't work. But that's OK with him.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
You can't flash over but you can SIM unlock the phone.
Not Sure
You cannot but I really doubt why not, both are CDMA so there should work, will search and update if I find the anything regarding this.
Hardware supports completely different frequencies so assuming you got it to work, you either wouldn't get signal, or it'd be so weak it'd be unusable.

Sprint to T-Mobile Nexus question

So here's the situation. I plan on activating on Sprint. Then waiting until my contract expires and then heading to T-Mobile. Anyone know of any issues I might run into. I would think it would be as simple as a SIM card swap.

The only thing that you might have to do is manually enter the T-Mobile APN. Probably not though, I have a Sprint N5 and my APN's were set automatically when I put in my T-mobile Sim.

Simple as a SIM swap. I bought a Sprint nexus 5 and am running it on straight talk with no issues. Just needed a reboot. You might have to add the correct APN settings for your carrier. But that is pretty straight forward.
Ok thanks for the info. I just wanted to make sure. Didn't want to accidentally lock it to Sprint somehow.
