Stock ROM Games Lag - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I notice that games (Temple Run and Riptide GP) lag on the stock touchwiz ROM, but don't on Cyanogenmod 9 or 10. Why is that?

I think more processes run in the background of stock rom esp. if it is not debloated that eat cpu cycles heavy on the device

Nope nothing special ) only asphalt 7 is problematic.
Looks like I solved it : download the latest ZSPLD firmware from sammobile.com, flash ardadat's latest kernel (4.2b6), use setcpu 3 and set the governor to interactive and scheduler to deadline. I managed to play a few mins of Temple Run and had no freezes and the framerate was excellent (I'd say above 40 fps). If this also works for you add this to the OP and change the title.

I'm pretty sure it was in fact lagging with XXLQ9 + ardadat 4.2b6 and interactive/sio.
My games play at high FPS but:
- Most of them suffer a big pause of 2 seconds each 5 minutes of playing, more or less.
- Boost 2, which is a fantastic game, is laggy while in my Galaxy S it is smooth as hell.
Someone with similar problems maybe?

I have the same issue. I would really like to know if anyone who has flashed the Taiwan ROM have the same issues. I have given up playing Dead Trigger and many other games because of this issue.

ZSPLD is a "very updated" build of 4.0.4. It has a new keyboard, Polaris Office 4.0 and some other updates that aren't available in other builds. As of performance, I managed to play a few mins and had only one 3 second freeze followed immediately by another 1 sec one.

EDIT:I made a big mistake not giving it rights to execute... I managed to get it working, although I haven't tested yet if it improved gaming.
Holy cows. Shadowgun dead zone is running so smooth on shadowrom ICS with this tweak. Look at my antutu. And I used stock kernel
combination of aokp jb alpha 2 and castagnait 7.3
vm.vfs_cache_pressure is 20 (seems to interfere with some other tweaks)
phone is laggy. so are the games

You need to remove all tweaks in system/ etc/ init.d except for the two stock ones. You also have to install busy box.
didn't have busybox. now i do. but still the same.
in init.d there were only the two stock ones.
What about cm10 has anyone tested it?
I have no idea what kind of magic does it use, but it really made games smoother. I'm impressed.

Are you using castagnit kernel? You have to use stock kernel. If it still lags then read the thread again for instructions

i'd stick to the stock kernel if there wasn't the image compression issue

And your signature says Something else
I switched from 4.2.2 back to Cyanogen 9 and it's running just as fast and reliably as Gingerbread.
I am in 4.2.2, with Jelly Shot crespo ROM and Marmit kernel - so smoth and fast. Except Gingerbread, the battery consumption is also better.
4.2.2 is better !!!
Running on a smooth CM 10.1 with Air Kernel. Fly's most of the time with a few hiccups here and there

Me Gusta!
Carbon is nearly as smooth as Jellyshot (really hard to match them) but is so fast and virtually bug free (I haven't encountered any yet).. On benchmarks it tests higher for me than any other 4.2 rom (not that this means too much). And is still full of features... And best of all it is great with battery life.. I installed it on less than 50% (granted not heavy useage) but I got more than twenty hours (six of those I was asleep).. I am charging it up and will see how it does on screen time..
On full charge (Devil Kernel {ondemand/deadline 1000/100) over 48 hours!!! semi-light usage
Check out GamerzROM, based on CM 10.1 and it's awesomely fast...
Im not quite sure, CARBON ROM is pretty snappy, its up there with AOKP
I find helly bean pretty smooth...smother than ICS at least!
Do you guys think carbon is smoother than helly bean?

I find it smoother, the initial release, the nightlies are a bit buggy and not as fast.. Jellyshot is the smoothest rom, but not as fast as Carbon, but it's boot time is faster..

I have an updated list of Roms, all based on my testing and are not meant to be disrespectful to developers as all Roms have their own merit based on each user...
(Each rom is tested on stock kernel and Devil kernel using Antutu for benchmarks)

Nearly, it tests on antutu within a couple hundred point difference with Devil kernel, but is nearly identical stock...
I think that the new JellyShot 4.5 is faster than the Carbon, I tested both with marmite 7.3 because the >8 versions eats too much battery

My 10.1 tab2 is very laggy

Hi , i just bought my tablet and it has very much lag , i have zap blaster rom , i had cm10 and was same.
What can i do ?
I have had the stock JB and CM10.1, but both have been very zippy.
Describe your lagginess. When is it lagging?
Did you flash your roms correctly with full wipe?
Was it lagging on the stock rom?
You may need to flash the roms again with FULL WIPE.

I understand what you mean.. You can't comparing it or expect an android tablet to be as smooth as an iPad or a windows 8 tablets.
The best you could do is
1)enable force hardware acceleration in developers settings
2)set maximum background tasks to 1 only
3)download entropy and increase it to 512
4)install a custom kernel and overclock the CPU. Set Governor to interactive. It should feel a bit snappier
Also, doesnt matter how fast you make the tablet, the playstore will always lag while scrolling on landscape so if thats the lag you mean then dont mind it

[Q] Tipo CPU and GPU Overclocking

Hi!
I have rooted Tipo. Running on Free Xperia kernel (3.0.8-FXP-g22c38de5) with MIUI 3.7.19 ported for Tipo on Android 4.1.2. What a long sentence So, my question is; can i overclock GPU and/or CPU. I have tried to overclock, but i only was able to underclock
you can only overclock cpu at stock rom with vergeance kernel (1.40) but it isnt stable

either you don't have init.d support or busybox, or adrenaline engine is really worthless, IDK check if you have those two things, if you have them then adrenaline engine doesn't work well on CM. I noticed some improvement with multitasking on stock rom

You can use 1.40 vengeance kernel with gimlo rom.....i come from cm10 and miui.....believe me ...this rom is pretty fast.....and with vengeance kernel, i get 5041 score in antutu benchmark .
Earlier this vengeance kernel was very unstable......but now with gimlo ,this is behaving very well.....no doubt there are some some reboots when you strain the cpu a lot but thats very predictable
And one funny thing....i can play subway surfers all day long without any reboot ...hhaahaaa my fav game
Try it
If you get unstabilities, you can always switch back to stock...or better set the vengeance kernel to 800 (its rock stable there) and still you ll get 200 more points than stock Its a win-win situation .

It's more stable, but no overclock. I haven't tried it still, but I don't recommend using 1.40. If you want to play a 3d game or watch a flash video on a website the phone will reboot, regardless of the frequency or governor/io set
So now i know what to do.

So I'm going to install 1.46 and probably not overclock. I may test it, but if it crashes all the time, i'm not going to overclock.
