Advantage: No need to have an internet connection
step-1 create a wifi hotspot using u'r laptop's wifi through connectify-me and in the field of connection to share select option "No internet Sharing" and then connect your android to this wifi signal
step-2 open your windows explorer and press "Map Network Drive"
step-3 click on "Connect to a Web site that you can use to store....." option and then click next and again click next
step-4 install " WellFTP Server " in your android phone and open it and note down the Network Address
step-5 Enter the address in the address bar
eg: ftp://192.168.65.100:1234 and click next and again click next
step-6 Give the network a name eg: My Android, and then click finish
There you go...you have setup a network location to your android successfully...now you can browse your sdcard as if you are browsing your hard drive :victory: :victory: :victory:
All you have to do is connect your Android to connectify-me and then open WellFTP server in your phone and Browse through WINDOWS EXPLORER

dude..if u use virtual router...then u should alsoo know abt the "virtual router could not be started"
this is really one of the scarest pblm.. coz jus type in the google and see the intensity of the problem!!
BTW
it is not ad-supported and doesnot collect any user stats
the best part i can recommend is that,NO NEED TO INSTALL IT
soo that al the major issues can be avoided
u will share the network via build in service which is present @W7.... nothing new...
tryng the simplst way is better i think dude...i apolozise if i was wrng

Two friendly suggestions and a question:
1) Produce a more "professional" and well-made tutorial video. For example, choose more "neutral" music and you might want to consider using voice narration instead of text.
2) For the "Setup Hotspot" function, if possible you should move to a GUI like in Virtual Router Manager instead of the current command prompt text interface. It looks and feels so 1980s.
3) What is the security encryption method used by this app? Hopefully WPA2
I use this open source app for the same (For windows 7+)
http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/
I occassionally have to stop/start the service but otherwise it works fine.

yes.still not connected.probably my university blocking the network sharing
yeah.That might be reason.
But once you restart the system and and disable/enable the wifi and also the sharing.
Try to adjust the LAN settings too.
It might work! why dont you give a try?

Hey
I want to use WiFi to transfer files from one Android phone to another Android phone. The only way to do this is thru a Adhoc connection (without a router). Is there a app that allows me to do this?
Thanks
I dont think so
Please add me on twitter. Just search for AndroidPhoneOS
Don't forget its Android, anything is possible, just need to find out a way.
Isn't bluetooth sufficient? Some apps allow you to view the other phone's files.
Enable wifi tethering on one phone and connect the other phone. Then use FTP or something to transfer files.
I don't have an extra phone to try this, but it should work.
I believe this is what you are after:

A 100MB file took about 50 minutes. WiFi would have allowed it to go much faster.

No. Hoccer works like a cloud so you need a internet connection.
It works !!!
I'm using "Wireless Tether for Root Users" , "DroidFTP PRO" and "ANDFTP".
The transfer via adhoc works perfect !!!
You can try wifi cast! I search for it in the market but i cannot find it anymore! So i have oploaded it! Its the lite version so it should be no problem! @mods: otherwise please delete the link! THX!

I am using a program called ZAPYA from playstore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dewmobile.kuaiya). It is exactly what you want. You can transfer at lightning speed.. even full movies in few seconds without need for routers...Create a group from one mobile and Search & Join the group from other mobile/Tablet. It will do all other things for you. Very simple to connect and transfer files. We use this will all our devices.
Raghu K
Use WiFi-Direct or SuperBeam(2.3.3+).
By the way, I'm looking for a tool to send/receive file between two android devices over internet( not on a same network) in real time(without using wifi), just as yahoo messenger does. Any standalone app(P2P) ?
Ok I saw this option in the android system menu to turn on wifi direct, but I couldn't find anything further than that. How do I actually transfer files thorugh wifi direct??
Update:: MEthod for wifi file transfer from one phone to another.
Youu'll need ES file explorer on one phone and Swiftp on another
1. Toggle Wifi tethering on, on the device from which you will ransfer files.
2. Now connect the other device to this AP created by the tether.
3.Now on the same device(the one connected to the AP)start Esfile explorer and got to the ftp tab
4. Go to settings>scan. Es file explorer should now automatically find the other phone,
Just wanted to bump this thread....seems like no one's interested but I think wifi direct is awesome! and i know our phones are capable just that the right software is needed.

Handover
YouTube demo : https://youtu.be/D2yYvg1UIx0
Handover lets you seamlessly move from your phone to your PC by letting you open whatever content is on your phone in one click
With the Chrome Extension, you can also move from PC back to your phone in one tap
In most apps, you can use the share menu and select "Handover"
Some apps will support Handover Tapless. These apps can push content without your interaction
Requirements
Windows PC or Mac with 10.9 or later and Android phone (experimental support for Linux)
Both in same LAN (network, can't work over internet (yet!))
Java 8 or later on PC
Tapless Supported Apps
https://handover.hamzahrmalik.com/#tapless
Please email developers and ask them to add support then this can take off
Note that rooted phones can use this mod to add support to Chrome, Youtube and any app with an embedded web view
Also note non-supported apps can still use Handover via the Share menu
Planned Features
OSX Support (only if I get enough people interested in it, leave a post if you are) this has been added!
Indicator on phone to show when connected
Let me know if you have any ideas
How to get Handover
You need to download the app to your phone from Play Store or APK
Then download the PC server from http://handover.hamzahrmalik.com
Windows: Run the installation on your PC and start the service
Mac: Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag the Handover folder into Applications. Then launch Handover Settings from Launchpad
Linux: Run the java file to start the server. To launch content from the phone, use the bash script
Changelog
Version 2.0 - 24/4/16
Initial Release
Information for developers
If you want to integrate Handover with your app, here's how
What does integrating Handover Tapless do
Integrating allows users of your app to click a button on their PC which will launch whatever content is on your app. It works best with websites, eg if your app is a browser, a forum, or some web based content
How to do it
Simply send a broadcast of the URL for the content whenever the content changes like so:
Code:
// Create Intent
Intent i = new Intent("com.hamzahrmalik.handover.android.SEND");
// Put the data in using the tag
i.putExtra("**URL**=", "http://example.com");
// Send broadcast
sendBroadcast(i);
Sample app
Here's a sample app on Github
Also see my commit for adding the feature to Lightning browser: https://github.com/hamzahrmalik/Lightning-Browser/commit/cf629947922f867e3124921ef0dd3e711aca03c7
