This may be a dumb question, but is the HX Camera mod possible on our Verizon SG3's? It looks awesome in the youtube videos.
The link is http://hx-custom-roms.com/galaxy-s3-camera-mod
yea its possible. but unless you are releasing it then you may want to have a mod move this to the q&a's before some troll comes here lol
Anything is possible. Eschelon had it ported and built into synergy but video recording was borked in it.
Oh, and wrong forum.

I've flashed it before and it does work, but the only reason I wanted it was to be able to use the volume button to take a pic. So I use this now, and it works great http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844740
I wish this would integrated into Synergy.

General rule of thumb, if your thread title has a "?" or should have one it doesn't belong in Development.
I loved it when we had it. Not a much of a video guy on my phone, but I do like the pics options. Unzipped the .apk but won't let me install, just says installation failed. Any ideas?

Yep, figured it out already. Root Explorer/Systems/Apps. Change existing to .bak ( in case I want to go back to it). Copy/paste new .apk to same folder.
Thanks for the response, appreciate the help.

Thanks!
I'm sorry if asking a question was inappropriate in this forum, but it seems like better answers typically come out of this subforum I put the apk into System/app (after renaming the orig. camera apk to .bak) and it works! I like the options to use the volume buttons to shoot video and pics. The only thing that would be nice is a menu option to kill the camera sound instead of having to delete the files as below:
note: To have the Camera COMPLETE silent you have to delete some system-Audio files from:
\system\media\audio\ui
“shutter.ogg”
“cam_start.ogg”
“cam_stop.ogg”
“Volume_controll.ogg”
Thanks for the help, loving my SG3 even more!!! This is the greatest phone I've ever had by far!

Only one glitch, terrible pixellation on video playback. Looks okay while shooting, but is horrible when played back, either on phone or on computer. I went back to the stock camera.apk and there's no pixellation. May have to try the other option listed above. Anyone have a fix for the pixellation?

In response to the iPhone and MGS2 lock/unlock sounds...I decided to make my own. (I would link back to them but since I'm a new member, I can't.)
The iPhone sounds were better than stock but still bland. MGS2, while I'm a Metal Gear fan, those sounds have always grown to be very annoying after a few hours of using them. So I made some that were unique but not annoying (for me at least). Zipper sounds. Just made sense to me.
I'll be making more just because I get bored easily. So, as I make more, I'll upload them here. Share your own too!
(Remember, they have to be in .ogg format. The easiest way to convert is to download Audacity, open the file you want, edit if needed, and export to ogg.)

+1. unless I'm blind, I'm not seeing an option to set the lock tone, just to have it function. Love to do it, but Idk where the phone is seeing the stock sound, or how to change it. :/
Put files in the tools directory .
-adb remount
-adb shell rm /system/media/audio/ui/Lock.ogg
-adb shell rm /system/media/audio/ui/Unlock.ogg
-adb push "lockfile.ogg" /system/media/audio/ui/
-adb push "unlockfile.ogg" /system/media/audio/ui/
-reboot
Or you can always use root explorer from market to move files around.

hi awesome sounds but wondering what is the name of the sound file for the tap sound the sound froyo makes when you tap anything with the finger... can that be replaced??
I'm not an Android or Java guru, so I'm sure there's probably a better way to do this, but it works...

You don't need the diff. It's just if you want to compile it yourself or see the source code.
Oh, ok, thanks for the MOD
Thanks for this, I've been wanting exactly this for a while now-it only makes sense. I hope cyan or other devs take note of this and incorporate it into their roms, to keep up with newer releases of the phone/contacts.apk's that they use.

I don't have this problem on my g1 or slide.
I pulled the links. Apparently it breaks the ability to answer the phone
I'll look at at when I get home from work.

I finally got around to looking at it. Apparently the problem was not with my changes, but somewhere in my build environment.
Essentially whether I build the phone app with or without the changes, I am losing the onscreen answer/decline sliders. Gonna have to look into that because I am using a slide which lacks the hardware answer button rendering my phone app unusable to me.
So since it does actually work, Here is the new diff. It is essentially the same but with a few code cleanups. I am going to hold off on posting the apk's however until i figure out why i'm losing the onscreen sliders. If anyone knows, please let me know.

PLEASE NOTE: I DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS APP, I JUST "TRANSLATED" IT TO ENGLISH
I've been trying to replace 3d gallery and have stumbled upon a great 2d gallery, unfortunately for me it was in Chinese, I read the instructions on the first page of miui translation forum thread and have translated it to English and actually compiled the app without any errors(to my surprise ). but when i replace the app on the phone i still get the original version that opens up(Chinese one).
I spend 2 good hours translating it, and really hate coming up short
can some one tell me what i am doing wrong? I'm attaching the Chinese version and the English version
there are the translation instructions:

its not a system app. it just a regular apk. eventually i want to replace the 3d galley so this one woudl open up from the camera
i could not even get it to install. wont install normally, and copied to /data/app and it doesnt show up
tried to install with adb and it gave a certificate error
this is because you didnt sign the translated apk
http://www.londatiga.net/it/how-to-sign-apk-zip-files/
shows you how to do that
if you modify an apk, it must be signed before your phone will use it
ive signed it and its installed, and working, in english
my guess is that you didnt remove the untranslated version before trying your new one, make sure you remove it first
good work btw, great find
also, this isnt aosp is it? i was thinking the icon more resembled miui, which would make sense if it was in chinese

as far as i know, all apk's must be signed for android to use them (with the exception of framework-res.apk)
also, you should change the thread name to something else and put a signed version on the first thread so others dont get confused

actually, no i have no idea. i would expect if you decompiled Camera.apk you can find it by digging through the code
(use smali/baksmali to accomplish the decompile)
but i am not well versed in programming, so i wouldnt know where to begin

As far as the one click root, if you aren't flashing any kind of system img then you should keep your data, but i always assume that ill be losing my data when rooting.

Interestingly I can only save pics that are part of the slideshow presentation by pausing then hitting menu > save attachment. On the regular image view the only option is Set picture as. Hi all.. If you want to turn the sound of your camera then this is the trick if you use this with my mod of the camera... it should be completely mute. no focus sound or shutter sound.
use with this mod to eliminate all sounds (focus and shutter etc).
Stock camera no sound mod
Use a file explorer. In system writeable mode
Go to system/media/audio/ui
Then change the name of these files as on the picture.. You can name then what you want though. Reboot.. and enjoy. Working and tested on my I9505
This does not remove the little beep on manual focus.
as mentioned below.. there are several ways to do this...this is just my way, which is easy and it is easy to return to normal.. just remove the .backup again
The poweron.ogg is to remove boot sound
If this was useful press like

The good part about this app is that you will be able to reenable the shutter sound if you wish and the app can be uninstalled, also this app is not really needed as you can just add a line to the others.xml file in the CSC folder to achieve this. But yeah, you're way works as well

Maybe I'm lucky but my turning the volume off on my S4 silences the camera shutter. Didn't have to root or do anything else!

Cool - I done this and it works a treat!!
**EDIT: This post refers to a mod which activates an unused menu option to switch off the shutter sound. Other sounds in the camera app will still be present. Thought I'd clarify this in case of any confusion.
Just in case anyone else wants to do this (I think this would be the 'correct' method of applying this fix as opposed to removing the sound file or muting your phone!), then here is a little guide.
Root access required of course, and I used Root Explorer to do the following:
In Root Explorer, navigate to the following location:
/system/csc and look for a file called 'others.xml'.
Long-press on this file and select 'Open With', and then select 'Text Editor'.
Scroll all of the way to the end and look for the following:
</FeatureSet>
</SamsungMobileFeauture>
Insert the following line just before the </FeatureSet> code.
Code:
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Then pressing the 'Back' button will automatically save the file and back-up the original in the folder.
Restart your phone.
Now when you go into the camera, tap on the settings, so you get camera settings, video settings, and the general settings in a pop-up, press the settings icon/tab and scroll down and you can now select to toggle the sound on/off (second-last option).
Thanks to all above for guiding me to this little fix, it takes no time at all to apply. The camera sound was annoying me a bit and was surprised to see it wasn't a supplied function.
To revert, simply go back to the file you edited, delete it, then remove the '.bak' from the backed-up file.
And all credit to the original Dev. for the code for this mod, at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162906
The CSC mod does not work for me. "/system/csc" does not exist on my i9505. Tried the app that does the CSC edits and still no go. Deleted the media/ui files and the camera focus sound is still there.
The only way that I can silence the camera is to place the phone is silent mode.
Anyone have any ideas for a fix?

The CSC mod does not work for me. "/system/csc" does not exist on my i9505. Tried the app that does the CSC edits and still no go. Deleted the media/ui files and the camera focus sound is still there.
The only way that I can silence the camera is to place the phone is silent mode.
Anyone have any ideas for a fix?

I'm not familiar with the various rom folder structures, but I get the impression this one is pretty universal...
However, if you post your rom version then maybe someone can help you.
Also, if you deleted the sound file, did you reboot afterwards?

Cool - I done this and it works a treat!!
</FeatureSet>
</SamsungMobileFeauture>

I was issued an Australian unbranded i9505 and flashed Omega3.0 which I gather already has the no-shutter mod implemented. However, the focus sound still remained. I did rebooted heaps afterwards and it was still the same.
There's no CSC folder anywhere that I can find.

The OP's topic of this thread is to remove the shutter sound (press the button to take a photo), not the focus sound. So the fix that is being discussed prior to your posts are not relevant to the focus sound.
@MRDOCA who posted before your above quoted message is on Omega and seems to think the shutter fix worked for him, so he must have found the correct folder location. But even so, this won't help you with the focus sound...
If you've found the shutter sound file in the media/ui folder and have rebooted, do you have custom recovery installed, can you wipe caches and reboot?
I'm out of ideas other than this, maybe someone else will recognise your problem and offer better assistance.

If you mean the little beep on focus..I don't know how to remove that... I did not notice that before... Will look at it... But maybe it is an in-app file

Yeah, that beep. I wonder if any other users have the same issue as me.
Meanwhile, I created a tasker profile to automatically toggle silent mode when using the camera. Not an ideal fix but works.

I think we all do have that problem...I will see if I am able to decompile it later and if there are sounds then remove them... But last time I decompiled it had java errors... Will see if I get the time though
