Buying a Note in the US - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I'm from Ireland and I'm going to be in the US in september and I'm hoping to buy a note 10.1 as it's much cheaper there than it is in Ireland (in the order of $150 cheaper).
What is the best brick and mortar store?
Best buy seems to be the only place I can find that (on the net atleast) would have in stock, also is there anything I'm not thinking about? taxes or the charges which may affect me I'm going to california by the way.

Office Max is a good brick n mortar store, that sells the G-Note 10.1 All you have to pay extra is California's state sales tax.

I bought mine from newegg.com for $499 with free shipping (ups 3days) and without tax
while I was in a hotel in Texas for a business trip.
But I think you'll end up paying tax in California if you order from newegg.
Goto www.nowinstock.net and check out other online stores as well.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm now thinking to avoid sales tax(and wasting my time finding stores) to buy the note 10.1 and Tab2 7.0(for my gf) on Amazon and have it shipped to my gf dad who lives in cali

I may be mistaking something, but how are you avoiding tax by purchasing online? Does it depend on the state you ship it to? I live in Canada, so I'm not used to this tax exemption concept.

well my understanding(recent research from google) is that most states have sales tax which is charged on top of the price of good at point of sale. I'm not exactly sure how online retailers avoid having to pay sales tax but I believe it has to do with selling good from outside the state where the customer is.

In the US, you usually don't pay sales tax online UNLESS the store has a physical presence in your state. That has it's exceptions though, like Amazon, here in CA you currently don't pay tax to sales fulfilled directly by them (sales fulfilled by 3rd parties on Amazon still carry tax IF they are in your state) because they have no physical presence in CA, however, through a deal made last year between CA and Amazon, we will have to start paying sales tax on ALL Amazon purchases, regardless of whether it's coming directly from them or from a 3rd party. If you want sales tax free online stuff in CA after September, you'll have to go with somebody like B&H, JR or Adorama, who are all located in New York City.

how often do ppl get charged tax by customs for shipping phones in from EU?

hey guys
im looking into getting a desire or hd2 from someone on this forum, but most sellers are from EU so i was wondering if any of you have experience importing phones from EU and if you got taxed or not
i'm from canada btw
thanks for any input
Interesting theme indeed.
I live in Mexico, and I don´t even think about getting shipped any electronic from USA or any other country in the world
Mexican customs charge you so much money!!
And also you have not 100% secure you shipping......
I prefer to travel to USA or to be sent to any friend living there
Just about everything individuals import into Canada is subject to the goods and sales tax (GST) of five percent. The GST is calculated after customs duties have been applied.
You will also have to pay the applicable Canadian Provincial Sales Tax (PST) or Quebec Sales Tax (QST). The provincial retail sales tax rates vary from province to province, as do the goods and services to which the tax is applied and the way the tax is applied.
In Canadian provinces with a harmonised tax (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador), you'll be charged a flat 13 percent, rather than separate GST and PST.
I suggest you to check with your local custom office before having suprises

oh yea i know the numbers
what im worried about is what are the chances? for example things that get shipped from the states to canada are less likely to get taxed if the shipment is done with UPS rather than FedEx
say if i can get the seller to write down something specific like "birthday gift" or "sent back for repair purposes" would i have a good chance of avoiding it, especially shipping the phone in from UK

[Q] Availability in Greece at a reasonable price

Having read up and deciding this is the bad boy I want to purchase I have been looking around for a retailer in Greece.
I have only found one online retailer selling this at 699 euros.
Anyone know if there is a place selling it for its proper price???
Closest place is ebay, unless you find it at a retailer. But then you've got international shipping.
I would wait for a month or so, it'll probably become available on more retailers and the price should decrease as well.
Can't you buy from Amazon.co.uk? The tablet is cheaper there than announced price in my country (Poland) and shipping is free to some countries.

[Q] Competitive prices for purchasing the Galaxy S4??

I'm asking for advise on where to find the most competitive pricing to buy an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S4 (going to be on T-Mobile for bring your own device).
1. I'm currently thinking about Amazon or Amazon wireless (no sales tax for Nevada, US). I'm a bit hesitant because it looks like Amazon itself doesn't sell the cell phone, but their resellers will. Will Samsung still offer their warranty, even if I buy the phone from a reseller on Amazon?
2. Is there any other websites that doesn't have tax for California and/or Nevada for unlocked Samsung Galaxy S4 with competitive prices?
---
On a side note, I'm curious on why the S3 is currently being sold for $669 on Amazon Wireless. The price is a bit steep, no?

Amazon would probably be the best, followed by eBay. You're going to pay a good chunk for it, though, because it's new, and it will be hot, so there will be the whole supply and demand thing to deal with.
You will see the prices of the S3 start to drop the closer to launch of the S4.

Do you know if Samsung will offer their warranty if I purchase the phone through eBay or Amazon resellers?

What is the real cost to my door of the 64Gb version

I realize that the 64Gb version is $349. But, it has to be shipped from China , go thru US customs, applicable sales tax in Masachusettes.
SO
Shipping cost = ?
Custom duty cost = ?
Massachusettes tax = ?
I had, couple of years ago, bought a phone from Canada and when the USPS was delivering it to my door, I had to pay an additional $33 immediately (I assume Massachusettes taxes and or Customs-I don't remember which)
So I take the 349, add a shipping cost (I am guessing) of $15:00, plus Custom duty/Massachusettes sales tax of about $33:00 will bring the real cost to my door of approximately $400 and change. So the real cost to me will be approximately $400 give n take. It is still a good idea but real numbers mean more than just a listed number.
Any one out there that has received their Oneplus in the USA, what were those other costs?
Thanks in advance.
I can't really answer your question, but for me in Germany/EU there were no extra costs.
300€ + 5€ express shipping + a few € for a screen protector.
A user asked the OP support for the costs and they replied:
Thanks for contacting us. The price for the phone itself (64GB) is USD349, plus shipping fee of $16 for standard and $19 for express, hence the total cost will be around $365-370. The tax is included in the price.

There now is an additional 'sign on deliver' cost of 2.35$.

First off, the phone is not shipped from China. It is shipped from Anaheim California. The tax is included in the $349. Shipping is $14 now I believe, when I paid it was $360 in total and delivered via 2 day usps to new York.

That explains why I got my OnePlus One so damn fast I live near Anaheim lol Anyway, the standard shipping was $10 and $350 for the phone, I didn't pay a penny over $360.
oki doki, the shipping sounds reasonable and I like it. Thanks all for your responses.

The shipping varies depending on where it's going within the United States. I've bought two, I'll list their shipping locations below along with their price.
New Lenox, IL - $11.99
Minden, NV - $10.34

Mi4c EU warehouse - best place to buy?

Hello there,
I want to buy a Mi4c 2gb cellphone from europe or somewhere were I have not to pay taxes for the customs.
Do you guys know the best sites to buy it?
Thank you :fingers-crossed:
if you buy from an eu location, taxes will be already paid and incorporated into the cost charged to you so they will cost more compared to those shipped from china (the extra cost being same as the value of tax that would have been paid). If you import from china, there is a decent chance you won't have to pay tax, but if you do then the total will come up to the same as one bought from the eu. so i'd say if you can wait a couple of weeks, buy from china as you are quite likely to avoid taxes anyway, but if you can't wait buy from the eu.
i bought mine from:

ordered on 5th june, delivered on 24th june to the uk. No customs taxes, it was marked as a $20 mp4 player on the packaging

Ah yes but what i'm trying to say is that if you're intent on buying a xiaomi phone, you'll have to be prepared to pay the tax either way. if you buy from the eu, the cost of tax will be incorporated into the cost charged by the seller so you're guaranteed to pay the tax. but if you buy from china, you will probably not have to pay tax but there is a chance you do so you have to be aware of that. chinese sellers typically mark their products as gifts or as a low amount (like mine) as to avoid taxes as customs officials can't open every package that comes through their borders to check inside. this means that most chinese goods will make it through untaxed but if you're unlucky you'll have to pay up.

Yes, I understand you. But there are places like gearbest that sells it in a good price and it avoids the customs, but they're out of stock. Thats why I want other sites that sells it in EU
I bought mine from honorbuy mobile 2 weeks ago.
Gizchina has EU warehouse
http://shop.gizchina.com/mi4c/
If you don't want to pay tax, you'll have to order from China directly, not from a EU warehouse.
From China, you could randomly have to pay taxes too...
Note that you'll have to wait 2-3 weeks more.
PS : you should consider the 32Go version instead of the 16Go. For the storage, but for the RAM too....
