They are also contributing a lot to Android Open Source Project.

Htc?

Htc screwed up the Nexus One, and with stupid locked and encrypted bootloader on Htc, it'd be Samsung or Sony for me.

in my opinion next nexus will be produced by motorola.. because google had bought motorola mobility. I don't know what I should expect from this but I think this will be all like google wants so we have to wait for something really good in my opinion

+1 for Sony..
They make high quality material, nice design and good specification for many phone.

Since I bought my first amoled phone anything else feels ugly, so until someone makes a better display I would stick to Samsung

+1 for Sony & Probably Motorola

I care more about the components used in the device more so than who actually puts it together.

Motorola IF they put the RAZR maxx's battery in there.

Now Motorola belong to Google but I'd like to have the possibility to choose between more than one... so I'd like to have a LG nexus, Motorola Nexus, Samsung, Htc etc.
I don't think that Google will use the Nexus name only for Motorola.

Asus

Either Moto or Samsung. I absolutely love Sammys design and build quality as opposed to HTC..

Look at the best selling Android device this year. Nexus devices are based on the best selling devices (Nexus S = Galaxy S, Gnex = GS2).

Nexus "3"

According to rumors, the next nexus will not only not have an amoled screen but will be made by LG. Am I the only one disappointed?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Well dont you get it ?
HTC is far more expensive than Samsung which is far more expensive than LG.
Nothing feels like my old HD2 that was the most great cellphone ever. I might sell my nexus to go get an HD2 and stay with it until it rots.
Why do u really care abt something which doesnt even exist...?
Relax and have fun with ur nexus s and the samoled, while google and next manufacture comes out with another masterpiece in some unforseeable future.
Remember this, that gogle never said they are going to come out with any of pure google experience handset suntil they launched N1.
N1 saw some nice responce but wasnt doing so well but the noise in consumer market was asking google to come up with next iteration, they did and they saw a massive success, continued the legacy by extending the nexus family with NS.
Lets see what do they do for us in future...
Just my 2 cents!

I believe that rumor is for Google and LG to be creating a "Nexus" tablet, not another phone just yet. The Nexus S just came out!
I will be very interested to see a Google tablet

Latest rumor actually is that Motorola might be building the Nexus 3.
A very reliable source said that Apple will have the new nexus *nexus 4GS* ;-) Let's stop speculating what the next nexus will be and enjoy what we have now.

If the screen came with the new Toshiba 367ppi screen (http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/18/toshiba-declares-victory-in-pixel-density-war-367ppi-coming-to/), or the 4.5" LG AH-IPS screen (http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/18/lgs-new-ultra-high-resolution-ah-ips-displays-simply-stunning/) you may not care if it lacks some AMOLED tech.

This is indeed correct the likely choice of the next nexus mobile device line will be motorola due to the CEO of motorola showing up at the Nexus s launch and talking with google ceo etc. they have made a contract to be the next maker im pretty sure you could find the info online
Actually there are rumors of both companies making the Nexus 3 PHONE. And they are just that, rumors.
I actually know both the ceos of LG and Motorola and they said that Casio was producing the N3...
5 inch screen
super-duper amoled 28000×9334 resolution.
24mp camera
2ghz quad core processor

Yep guyz.as title says.vote on
although i prefer HTC as a manufacturer i voted for Motorola because i want Google to give every manufacturer the chance to release a nexus phone.
since HTC did the first one i now want a Nexus Moto.
I'd say HTC, because ever since the Nexus S they're plastic-y while the One has an aluminium unibody.
Apple...
J/K....
Nokia! Lumia 900 with Android (a dream!) in white gorgeous!

HTC! Prefer their designs and would love to see them make a Nexus.
to be honest, an apple on the oustide, Android on the inside phone wouldnt be half bad haha
but id say either Moto or Samsung

I voted for Motorola. I agree it would be need for Google to give everyone a chance at it. But them choosing Motorola for the next one might not be well-received because it could be seen as them playing favorites.
I have had all 4 nexus/dev phones (HTC Dream, Nexus One, Nexus S, and the Galaxy Nexus)
The HTC phones blow the samsung ones out of the water. FYI, as an active xda member I like to think that I know my phones quite well. Samsung in both cases has skimped on thier Nexus phones. Both the SNS and SGN are missing features from the GS and GS2 respectively.
Whereas HTC actually made reference cutting edge phones with the nexus.
I personally want to see either HTC, Moto, or ASUS take on the next nexus phone.
Motorola, Sony, or HTC.

Hm, I'd prefer multiple Nexii from different manufacturers, for a simple reason: there needs to be more competition as far as the Nexus is concerned, or the sole partner will just slack off.
Plus, this might encourage more stock android, and that's only a good thing.
Sony from looks I jst love the new design of the Xperia S and Xperia P. But I would prefer HTC from the phone's heart.
My vote goes to motorola, in hopes that google might do something awesome with it. If not, HTC all the way.
HTC I never cared for the last few nexus phones no sd card on the galaxy nexus is a deal breaker for a lot of people also they should release it for all there carriers at once I think me next phone will be the nexus if they get it right

Apple hardware is great, even though it's not even made by them, but won't rival anything that Android has to offer. The 4S has a 1GHz dual core processor. So what? Say hello to the HTC Rezound, HTC One X, Sony Xperia S, LG Nitro, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE etc.
I don't think I need to say much more.
Apple software is ****. iOS can GTFO IMO. Sure, it's clean, simple, fast, reliable and freakin' boring!
It's an app drawer...big deal.
Basically:
Android > iPhone
If I helped, please say thanks
I Think That The Nexus Phones are the Best, between Android and IOS I think that are similar But I prefer Android Becouse They Are Really similar like Nexus S and Iphone 4S regards

[Off-Topic] LG Optimus Nexus?

So I hear that multiple manufacturers will be given the chance to release their own their own versions of the Google nexus. So far I've heard of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2, the Sony Xperia Nexus, and the LG Optimus Nexus. If that's the case, and let's say HTC and Motorola also make a nexus, what would you guys go for? What do you guys be hoping for in specs and pricing? How would you feel about LG pushing out a nexus?
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
Sony Xperia Nexus
AFAIK, next Nexus will be Samsung, Sony and LG only.
I've got O3D ONLY because 3D, else I'd never got an LG, so I would pick up Sony, maybe Motorola if they make one, though seems they don't.
LG never again, even if it's Nexus.
What would make the Sony nexus favorable?
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
I would also go for a Sony Nexus.
In the past year Sony really pushed their (lost) reputation. They gave the developers the libraries the needed and also supported them (unlocking the bootloader). They are also updating their products. Sony is definetly a good alternative choice to Samsung, which is kinda mainstream.
Sony Nexus
How do you guys feel about sony's build quality and specs? I've never really dealt with or seen them much. How do they compare to Samsung?
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
i would go for a motorola nexus
but if only samsung, lg, and sony gonna make nexus phones...i would be lost between sony and lg(if sony made it right)... as i don't like the build/feel of the samsung phones
besides with a nexus lg we don't have to worry about late updates
about sony phones...their build quality is good (used an xperia s for a little while)....but i think they are still late in the chipset department
in 2011...companies made dual core phones...while all sony erisson phones were single core
and even in 2012..they had dual cores while other have quad(but to tell the truth...moto is with them too on this one)...but the real problem is their flagship device is using s3 chipset..that's the only reason i don't prefer their devices...hopefully they change that with the nexus

If HTC made one, I would most definitely get it if it had the same screen as the one x. Samsung? Maybe. Motorola? I haven't been much of a fan of their designs lately but they know how to ramp up their batteries. LG? They'd have to blow me away. Sony is the only one I'm on the fence about.

i dunno...but imo it will be like this :
htc > sony >moto = samsung >lg (from the most expensive to the cheapest.of course im talking about unlocked ones)
but...if they wanna do this right..they should have somewhat lower prices than their usual prices...i think if they price them right with good specs and the fact they are nexus phones...which means we'll guarantee the next 2 updates...and the fact that now we have the liberty to choose the nexus of our fav manufacture...will be the most successful thing ever happened in android..at least that's what i think
take for example the nexus 7..good price..good specs...nexus device
and its selling really well and its popular now even though its not available everywhere yet

yeah indeed i was just gonna talk about it too
the S4 Pro chipset is the one i was waiting to see on a device this year...and looks like LG is the gonna be the one to do it.
its gonna be called optimus g i think
we will know all about it in the next few days anyway (as it will be announced at IFA...or thats what i read)
the only thing would stop me from getting it is the software updates and support...unless it managed to be popular here on xda...and got all the custom roms like SIII(it could actually happen though...im sure many people want that s4 pro chipset)
EDIT: the phone is announced here's the link:

Well the galaxy nexus started at $400 but it's now $350 so I'd imagine that Samsung's will be either. I'm hoping they're all around that price range. I'm wondering if they'll all have their own perks or if they'll all be similar and just under different labels.

2 possibilities:
-1st Nexus won't update,
-1st LG really updated.

Where to next?

I don't have an upgrade yet, but as the date draws nearer (December) I really start looking at what is coming out between now and then, and I must say I'm not feeling particularly confident about any given upgrade path.
If it's true the next Nexus will be Nexus Optimus based off the Optimus G I'd probably consider the Optimus G since having identical hardware to the galaxy S worked many wonders for the captivate.
Outside of that, the Xperia Tl looks like a pretty great device if it gets enough support to see decent long-lived dev support.
So, what upcoming phone do you think will have the best dev support? I would really like to keep getting updates long after the manufacturer officially drops support.. and Even if it's only 400$, I probably will skip the nexus since 16 gigs isn't enough without expandable memory storage..
Same. I also have an upgrade due this December and the new phones on at&t aren't interesting. I would've gone to the one x but their at&t version has ran into a wall because of a recent update that locked the boot loaders down, hard. (At&t officially does not support unlocked boot loaders for it). So, the Cappy is still moving forward

I'm cautiously optimistic about both the Xperia TL and the Optimus G.
I know that back mfr support can ruin otherwise great phones.. both in terms of upgrades and devs ability to make custom roms.. So I'll be looking anxiously at the LG Optimus. If the One x+ keeps the 64 gb of storage or even just 32gb of storage I would seriously consider it too assuming the dev support was adequate.

I am really worried the Note 2 will be far to big for my taste. The 4.7" phones already seem *huge* to have to stick in my pocket. Aside from that I'd be worried about the quad core exynos processsors which I hear make it hard to cook up custom Roms.

LG Optimus G looks very promising. I love its hardware design (on the same level with HTC one x or better, IMO), that quadcore Qualcomm s4 processor, and the screen is fantastic. I wish At&t included the 13 mp camera. But then again all cellphone cameras will never be perfect.

I want a decent camera but, honestly my absolute biggest concern is long term dev support. I wish there was an environment more "open" to dev with carriers. I understand they don't want to have to deal with people bricking their phones.. At the same time "voided warranty" scares off most people I talk to about custom roms in the first place.. So I don't think they are really gaining anything by locking down phones.. People either care about the warranty or they don't.

Well I'm guessing it's because carriers want you to buy a new phone for every upgrade date to make $$$ so they lock boot loaders (of course, that assumption could be false). For long term development support I will buy an international Samsung galaxy s_ device or a nexus.

Unfortunately, I'm kinda tired of the SAMOLED displays.
As far as why they do it, forcing customers to buy new phones is a pretty horrible reason TBH.
There are far too many people who are angry at manufacturers for failing to update fast enough. When you remove their ability to install their own update, you're just giving them a reason to find another product.

I left my Cappy last October after the USB port died and I got tired of switching out batteries to use it for the SGS II. My SGS II just had an unfortunate accident involving water, so I pulled out my trusty Cappy which I could not part with since it was my 1st Android device. Thank god for all of the awesome development that has and continues to unfold for this device. I am on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and its like I never left. I do not know how much longer I am going to use it (Nexus 4 looks tempting), but it continues to be an amazing phone that I will continue to go back to whenever other phones fail on me.
Kind of off topic but I really wanted to say how much of an awesome phone this is. Props to all of you who kept it for a full two years! :good:

Haha, yup that's a good point. I'm glad that the cappy was my first android device and is/was filled with plenty of developers to support it. I'm kind of sad to leave it this December, TBH.
What do you think of the SGS3?

Nexus 4 price is hard to resist, lack of storage and lte is unfortunate but can't beat 350 for a top of the line device. And it's a nexus.
I'd consider the nexus 4 if I didn't have the nexus 7 already
Might as well go with the school of fish since the galaxy s 3 is $99 now at select stores. Cant beat that price with all the features it has. But you gotta admit the HTC one x is a nice looking phone, and dare I say, and to which nobody has mentioned yet, the Lumia 920 (in red) *gasp*

One thing im wondering as I look at the nexus 4 is that there are 3 buttons back, home and multi task (which is long press home for us) one of the things i love is the dedicated options or settings key, anyone have any experience moving to no options button? One (of many) things that bother me when im using an iPhone is the stupid steps you have to take to change app settings.
I'm reconsidering this phone for that reason,(although im sure XDA can give me options to remedy this issue) am i the only one who thinks a dedicated multitasking button is a waste and long press home is a fine alternative to open up another shortcut option?

+1 here. Maybe a custom ROM for the Nexus will give you the ability to do that.

Getting a Nexus is your only safe bet for long term dev support and you don't have to deal with locked bootloader and losing your warranty by unlocking it (you have no choice with Sony and HTC, because you enter your IMEI to unlock it which void your warranty, unless you do some third party unlocking method). Also for the price of the Nexus 4 and being a Nexus device, I don't see why one would get the Optimus G with locked bootloader and probably poor support, if only for the 32gb storage which is not worth it compared to all the things the Nexus offer (ie, Google updates, easy to flash, best dev support and highesst quality rom, pentaband, elitist Nexus fanboys community).

Various CyanogenMod and AOKP-based rom is capable of customizing the on screen NavBar, including for the Captivate. Try AOKP rom and look for the Navigation bar settings.

Custom ROMs allow you to change all sorts of things about the navigation bar. You can have more buttons, different buttons, even shortcuts/widgets.
Also, I can say from experience that the three button setup is better than the four button setup.
