For those with ROAMING issues ... - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I had a similar roaming prompt when running Sprint-based ROMs on my wife s Incredible. The solution was to deactivate the phone guard in system settings.
I noticed a similar function on our S3's under Data Usage>More Settings>Roaming>Roaming Guard. Maybe tinker with these settings?
Thought I'd throw it out there ...

I'm on CM10 at the moment with the roaming issue, ill restore a nandroid of stock and see if this helps

That would be cool ... I'm really curious to see if this will work.

Ill try it with my dad's phone in a few minutes and see if it makes a difference.

I can't find this roaming guard option, all I see under Data Usage is Mobile Data checkbox, Limit Mobile data usage checkbox, alert me about data usage checkbox, data roaming checkbox, restrict background data checkbox, and show Wi-Fi usage checkbox. I also looked at any cut and could not find anything

Whatever you do don't mess with the Roaming Guard settings...
I found the Roaming Guard settings under the second data roaming option in any cut and not sure what I did but I actually lost all service on my phone and even enabling data roaming again in the system settings would not get roaming to turn back on, I had no text, calls, or data and under about phone it said I was not roaming nor was I connected to any networks. I tried all combinations of settings in Roaming Guard and nothing would get it to restore roaming until I dialed *2767*3855# to re-provision my phone. Not even restoring a nandroid worked, only the re-provision. Sorry bro, thanks for trying at least

Don't know what you did - or what ROM you were on when you did it - but I've changed these settings to and fro with no ill effect.

aaa my bad, I was looking under data usage like the OP stated (Data Usage>Other Settings>Roaming Guard) what I did that caused me to lose all roaming abilities was creating a easy cut shortcut to data roaming and in that setting there was "Roaming Guard" in there the option of automatic and sprint only roaming, I selected automatic and instantly all roaming was lost, I'll restore my nandroid and try Settings -> More Settings -> Roaming -> Roaming Guard

I checked mine and it is set to automatic by default ...

Mine was not on automatic by default nothing was selected that might be caused by the roaming issue

Hmmmm ...
Did you try unchecking voice and data under Roaming Guard?

Please help! No 3G connection

I usually used wifi at home/ company, rarely use 3G, so I used to turn it off by using APNdroid.
Today I needed to search something online so I turned my 3G on by using APNdroid. The 3G icon didn't show up. It didn't work even I switched on the "data roaming" in setting, reboot, switch to airplane mode then switch back.....
Anybody can give me some advice?
I'll second this for the battery savings

With APNDroid in the "on" mode, check your APN settings in Wireless Settings > Moblie Networks > Access Point Names. If there is nothing there, try Menu > Restore Defaults.

[Q] Enable packet data???

After flashing a rom I don't have a data connection. The apns are correct but I don't have an h+ icon or even an E. But when I go under network settings and choose "enable packet data" I have a data connection. Is this ok? What does enabling packet data do?

G2x Wifi Only, Save precious battery

I bought an unlocked G2x yesterday. I'm not using any of the Cellular related features. How can i turn them off? (Not airplane mode, that also turns off WiFi)
I also put in a random prepaid phone sim to remove the "Insert SIM" notification
I want this phone to look normal. but use only wifi. Because theres wifi everywhere and I can get free wifi calling.
I don't think it will make any difference in battery life weather data is turned off or the SIM is just not present. I think there are ROMs for the G2x that allow data to be toggled but I'm not sure.
If you're talking about T-Mo's wifi calling then you need an active T-Mo SIM to make it work.

You can disable mobile data from
setting > wireless & network setting > mobile network setting > Data enable
As long as you are within wifi range and connected it should by default disable mobile data.
You can try going to dialer, dial *#*#INFO#*#*
Phone Info
(scroll down)
"turn off radio"
YMMV though

This.
This is the only way to achieve what you are asking, toggling mobile data still leaves the cell radio active. I do not know if wifi calling will work with the radio completely off though. Try it out and report back, I'm interested to know.

I just followed that, wifi is still connected.
But this is what i mean
see "Cell Standby" and a completely different section "WiFi"
Airplane mode does turn off your wifi but try turning wifi back on. Works on cm7 at least...

Texting app that requires no data/wifi

Like any stock carriers SMS service you don't need mobile data or wifi to send and receive messages, I believe they are sent over the background just by being connected to said carries network. Is there an app or is it feasible to send SMS over the network without charging me? I only get 200 messages/month and I currently use text plus and its a battery sipper. I hate the fact I also need power hungry 4g enabled on my phone just to get my messages. Any help? Thanks

Who is your carrier? Pretty sure you do not need 4G (or any data) to send/retrieve SMS, only MMS.
You can disable your 4G data to save battery power, but you can still get/make calls and send/retrieve SMS. I personally use a data on/off widget that I place on my home screen, which makes it real easy to turn on/off the data to save the battery. I only turn it on when I need to use the internet in some way (or for MMS). It's called Data ON-OFF by Antonio La Rocca. It's free, very simple and works great (widget even looks good and has a few skin options).
Or you can simply go into your settings to disable 4G/3G data manually. Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks -> and uncheck "Use packet data". This will leave only the basic connection to your carrier for calls and SMS. You will still get a prompt for MMS, but you will need to enable the data to download/view it.
I have yet to see one that provides true free txt, all i have seen require the use of data, so being near a wifi hotspot or enabling your data seems to be the only way to go, would be interesting to know if there is an actual free sms service without the use of data.
I know that I can use att SMS. I'm talking about a 3rd party app

Xt720 mms and apn

Hey all. Got a question about having issues with my mms messaging. I've been doing some reading about it and fixed the issue by adding an apn. I don't have a data plan but after entering the apn, I was able to access internet even without wifi. Now I'm worrying about extra charges I may occur. I stopped using the data internet but my data arrows continue to blink even without using any apps..why are these data output and input occurring? And was that the only fix for the mms issues occurring?
Sorry that its 2012 and I'm posting this but this was just an affordable unlocked smartphone for me.

Hi Buddy,
It could be possible that you could incur extra charges for the data usage,if you do not have a data plan. Hopefully, I'm guessing you haven't overused it. Which ROM have you been using these APN settings on ? Just go to settings>wireless settings>mobile settings>turn off data. You could also try any APN apps from the market, if this process does not work for you. MMS settings would require a little data connectivity, correct me if I'm wrong.
I was using tmobile us appname but decided to delete all apns. Yes mms requires a little data but without a data plan, data usages would somewhat be kept on check while keeping mms' to work. But with the apn, there's really nothing restricting me from using data which I've never encountered before while on my g1 and charm. I've decided to play it safe and only turn on apn when I'm sending or receiving mms with a market app to help input the settings for apn quickly. Thanks much for your input
