Is there a music player that will recognize custom genres? I like to keep my 80's music in one genre but it seems all the players I have tried will list them as folk. I have updated and changed my tags to no avail. Any help is appreciated.

PlayerPro will. Its the best music app I've ever had. And I've had alot. Its simply the simplest to use, but can be tweaked to the core if you like to do so. Also tons of skin options.
Enjoy and make sure Hall & Oates stays far away from your Pantera collection.

double twist media player is out in market now! very nice UI. id say best looking player we have so far
btunes > double twist
It's stupid that you need their syncing software to add media. They don't even support linux
U dont. I just unchekd "auto USB drive" in settings, and it found all my songs.
it seems ok but I prefer 3 (cubed), I think its prettier ^^
Killer feature though is that when skipping through a track you can grab the position indicator and drag up the screen to change sensitivity just like on the iPhone. That and that alone makes this the best player for me.
Bring on an EQ and I will rejoice!
I think the best players are: 3, Nemo, and this. Anyone of them can be considered pretty.
I just discovered this music mod for the default music player.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690180
just installed it and I have to say its pretty.
My main player is 3 but I think i'll stick with this music mod.
DoubleTwist doesn't hold a candle to cacheinjection's stock music mod. Not even a flicker of a candle.
It would be great if it could sync with my Google Listen subscriptions fron Google Reader

the only reason for why i dont like 3 (cubed) is that it doesnt have the option to show the list of song titles

yes it does. menu - view - boring, then pick the artist/album and the song list pops up
I use Meridian. The only player that lets you browse by directories, and the only player that supports some other languages for song titles. I dont like playlists
Can someone post the APK for doubleTwist? I'm currently in asian and a TON of apps don't appear in the market.
Thanks in advance
The only issue I have with doubletwist is that it doesn't let me point it at a specific directory, and for some reason it makes and keeps it's own media library xml.
So far no problems here, for me the app is working perfect and love how quick it loads up the videos an I have 100's of them

what i mean is showing all the song titles like the stock music app
DoubleTwist player lists your audio that's on the microSD card that's in \alarms, \ringtones, \notifications folders.
Very annoying if you have a lot of ringers.
Stock music app doesn't list those folders.
As a follow up to this thread, let's determine the most popular music player.
Lithium the best
MediaScape not included in the list.
Thread moved to D&H Android General.
Sadly, I think the stock player is the best one yet. The volume rocker and trackball controls are a nice feature. Plus, it just looks nice having the album art as a black and white background while selecting a song.
I have tried several of the more popular players and found them to be fairly ugly and plain.
I remember reading somewhere that most media players dont even have their own audio support, they just use the default/built in audio engine of the regular player anyway...
Stock is working best and with the device controls for me right now.
Subsonic ..... It allows me to have all my music without trying to fit it on my phone

Streamfurious, as I don't really use local mp3s.
Stock music player is so primitive it cannot be the best. Maybe most popular if it's good enough for many people, but I think some other players in this poll are better.

There are many competing streaming music apps (btw Rdio opened to public today). Should make a separate poll for them.
MortPlayer
I've used MixZing, MusicMod, doubleTwist and Meridian
So the conclusion is ... inconclusive. The stock music player seems to be bad enough so that people are trying out other players, but there are no clear winner among non-stock players yet.
Default stock Sense music player is best to me.
I personally prefer RealPlayer. Currently it's in the Market in Beta stage. But it's incredibly clean looking, and easy to use. Plus, I don't have to put my music, video, or pictures in set locations on the SDCard. I can put everything where I want without loss of speed.
I like the stock player on my Captivate.. but for me it lacks lockscreen control and scrobbling. I have been trying other free ones that fit my needs, and may settle on 3 (cubed) for awhile.
(From my Captivate via XDA app)
Id personaly love to see winamp, been using it for years and think its great.
HTC Stock because I don't really listen to mp3s on the phone (ipod), Retro Radio for streams
Hi all
Im kind of new in this operative system and i'm getting used to it, but I can't specify a Music folder.
Each time I start any mp3 player app, it plays my music and many game sound files that I don't want to hear.
Is there any way to select which folders must these apps search?
Thank you very much in advance and sorry for my stained english!
The stock music player is not that great. I recommend poweramp, which is on the market. It can do almost everything you want from a music player.
Rockin' DJ05, Minimal Icognito, Clocked at 1.3Ghz
Another recommendation for Poweramp.
Stock Music Players don't look beyond the default folder and this is where Apps such as Poweramp come into their own, you can customize it to look for other music stored on your phone or sd card.
It also has a graphics equalizer and you can boost the sound to play louder from the PreAmp list.
tinyPlayer - for playing music from folders. Basic, small (60 kb), efficient - my favorite.

Go with Poweramp and you will not regret it. It has the ability to play from folders, organize all your music for you and does it on the phone without using some of the more annoying apps out there!
just create a file called .Nomedia and place it in every folder you dont want to show up in the music app.
well, if you're like me, and you think 5 dollars is highway robbery for a music app, then look into something a bit more simple. I don't actually like doubletwist, but for someone new to android - it's cool because it actually syncs itunes to android as well as acts as a audio/video player (most players will solve your folder issue).
Poweramp is one of these really "I have everything" apps like Handcent SMS (an alternate text messaging app that everyone dies for, when there are plenty of equal or better options out there). Fact is, there are plenty of apps that have what you are looking for. Enjoy the market place, and read reviews. You'll find tons. My guess is since you didn't look there immediately, you probably are feeling overwhelmed and not using your android to its full extent yet. Forums are a great place to start. You'll also quickly realize that "which music player is best" is bound to get a bunch of people in twister - this month it's poweramp, next month it will be __________.
Hello there everyone ^^ my question is about Music Players. I have been using for 3 years now the PlayerPro Music Player, I really like it because you can do what other players won't let you, like:
- Delete songs (as far I know, the default android music player won't let you do this, and IDK if other players would let you since I've only used the PlayerPro all these last 3 years).
- Search and edit artwork for songs, albums, artists from internet.
- Edit songs, albums, artists names and all the other info.
That's pretty much everything I love about that player. The thing is that after 3 years I would like to get a new one but I don't want to lose all those features that makes my life easier. Another reason to change player despite the 3 years using the same one is that I've been getting a lot of bugs and errors lately from the PlayerPro. I can't enjoy it anymore. Yeah, I know apps get updates fixing all kind of bugs and error. But hey, I want a new one x).
Does anyone know about another player with the same features I wrote? Thank you very much minna-san.

I personally like Rocket Player
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrtstudio.AnotherMusicPlayer&hl=en
It can delete songs and lets you edit all the meta-info. Unfortunately it can't fetch the metainfo automatically for you
PlayerPro Music i'm using it too, has everything i need.
I like the Sony Walkman player, you can find the apk online
I am also a big fan of Sony Walkman
i really like fusion music player, it has all above mentioned features and more
Power Amp is very nice. Black skin the best.
hi,
i'm searching for a music player for my defy with cyanogenmod 7.2 that supports sort-tags in mp3. that means i can sort the music regardless from the shown artist or album name. this is the feature is miss the most since my good old ipod is broken. the only useful player i've found is the rocket player that can sort albums by the year tag, but not my the album tag.
i've tried some popular players such as poweramp, but no player has the feature i'm searching for.
can anyone help me? i read that android can't read this id3-tag so the player installed on android ignore that tags. but is there no player that can read that tags without android's "help"?
Xenoamp is meant to support them, although they never actually worked for me and I've since moved on. Worth trying, though, as it's a good app and the dev is very cool.

Have you tried GoneMAD Music Player? There is a free trial version available, so you can check it out.
Furthermore, you might want to try MyPlayer++ from XDA member DMDP. He is a great developer who actually listens to user feedback and implements new feature requests. If his player does not support sorting by your preference, ask him if he can implement it.
I've been doing a lot of research on the topic, and GoneMAD indeed seems to be the best option so far. I wish they would add a desktop version and sync. I'd be all over that .
