[Q] Rooting turned my phone into a "soft Brick"

I have a Samsung S2 Galaxy Skyrocket (SGH-I727) on the AT&T network. I set my phone into download mode, opened Odin3 v.1.85 and selected the .tar file I downloaded off this forum to root the device. Well after about 30 mins of Odin being stuck with the "<ID:0/009> SetupConnection.." prompt I figured it froze up or something. Well I restarted everything and and now my phone just goes straight into Odin mode with the error "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I'm trying to reload the .tar and it is still doing the same thing...
I'm a complete noob at this! Will someone please help me out with really simple detailed instructions on how I can get my phone working again? I will do anything in return!!!!

Just so you know, reflashing it will work. Sometimes it takes a few tries. Just make sure repartition is not checked, only reboot. click pda and select the CWM tar. Just make sure the device is recognized in the com port before you push start.

Cool, thanks for helping!
Use odin and flash the sammobile image it will wipe everything but should fix the issue
CM9 Skyrocket
Sometimes its as simple as rebooting your computer, open Odin as admin, select your tar under PDA, connect your phone, make sure com is lit up and flash. My windows machine gets freaky like that sometimes and just fails or sits there doing nothing. Driver issue I assume even though they are there. I've encountered that error a few times trying to flash in Odin. No worries. These guys will get you back up. Good luck!

Got it! Working on downloading the .tar file from sammobile right now.
You mentioned different versions of the OS like ICS and 4.0... Which one do I want? LOL and where do I get it? I'm assuming its different than the firmware correct?

Thats a personal choice. Currently there are many different roms floating around but it depends on what you want.
Deciding on which to get is a matter of 2 simple questions for me: Do you want to be up to date, since ICS is the new hottest, thing (sexier UI IMO, some app issues, but overall feel wise. it makes the phone feel so much better, and fits the sleek profile, but lets not have me go on about aesthetics lol.
Or do you want functionatilty, extra options, overclocking (changing clock speeds) and things like that, currently we can only do that on 2.3.5/6 (Gingerbread, also known as GB)
I personally like ICS. Sometimes the Skyrocket just has to be sexy than the powerhouse e-beast that it is. That will happen whenever the Official ICS comes out

You don't need the sammobile tar unless you're returning to stock. If you wanna just be stock rooted, flash CWM in odin. Make a nandroid backup. Then put the superuser zip on the sd card and flash it in CWM.
If you wanna run a custom rom from our dev section, just flash CWM, make a backup and then flash the rom which will already be rooted

Probably redundant but it helps to be specific and detailed so that the ones much smarter than myself can help you better:
You used Odin to do exactly what?
Flash GB bootloaders?
Did you follow jscott30's directions exactly? Like first using Odin to to flash something other than bootloaders.
Did you flash the tar.md5 file in the pda slot?
A bad bootloader flash can seriously bork your phone...sometimes to brick status but not always. But detail the steps you took and it will be easier for those around here to help you diagnose the problem and help you out.
Good luck.

UUmm i used GB Bootloaders. I have rainbow distortion in recovery or in the boot animation. the forum on [ODIN][UCLB3] AT&T 2.3.6 Gingerbread with root and CWM recovery option - Infuse 4g told me to download. i followed this "You can download THIS .rar file, extract using 7zip, and flash the tar.md5 package in Odin (use the pda slot). Flashing Gingerbread bootloaders will correct rainbow distortion in recovery and in the boot animation. Only flash these if you are having issues with rainbow distortion, and only if you have had success flashing other, less dangerous items in Odin. If something happens to cause a flash of these bootloaders to fail, then you run the risk of bricking your phone. See THIS post and THIS post for more of an explanation of why bootloaders weren't included in the rooted UCLB3 Odin packages." and when i tried on odin it states a success and now rebooting so i let it reboot and now its not turning on

[Q] HELP PLEASE: Need help with what I think is a soft bricked phone

Hi, can somebody please help me?
I tried to use Odin to return from a custom rom to a stock rom and after following the instructions to do so, something happened and now im getting the following:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I727
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (1: counts)
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
firmare upgrade encountered an issue.
Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again
and now my phone only boots to this message
.
I am using ODIN 1.85 and it seams like it can read my phone but gets stuck on <ID:0/004>Setup Connection...
I was following this instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398

Hey guys, I dont have the exact problem, but i do think my skyrocket i727 is also soft bricked. Ive been researching allot since i dont know too much, and i dont wanna risk my phone dying on me. Any help will be greatly appreciated. While at work (currently deployed, so i can't go into an AT&T store) i used my friends charger to charge my phone. Ok, i put it were all the sockets are, that i always use and have not had any issues with. And it didnt charge, so i plugged it into my friends laptop. I see on my phone the blinking battery, and continue to use my gtalk. Had to step out to work, disconnected the charger and continued on with my day. A few hours later i took my phone out and noticed it kept on vibrating while the screen was black. Took the battery off put it back and nothing. Then took the battery out for like 2 3 hours, and again nothing. It will jus go to the 1st samsung logo, then to the second and go black, then vibrates every other second. I'm going crazy because i dont have a memory card and am soo terrified of losing my pictures and videos. I have read and have had the guys i work with help me, and one friend downloaded the Odis program, but before i use it, i just want to make sure theres nothing else I can do. Again ive read the steps, understand them, but will it delete my pictures?? I apoligize for the length of my thread, just trying to give as much detail as possible. I have never tried to modify my phone, so its still in its original form. Please help. Thank you in advance. Have agreat day

Ya you need to figure out what has happened. Are you sure you have Odin setup correctly? you have the file in the right Box (PDA I think). Every other box unchecked except auto reboot..?

yes, I followed all instructions posted on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398 and even reinstalled the drivers before beginning.
its still stuck there...should I just unplug the phone and start all over or should I close Odin?

[Q] [SOLVED] How do I get Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" (GT-P3113) out of recovery mode?
This may seem like a stupid question but here's what I'm dealing with. I had flashed CWM v6.0.2.3 onto my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7" Wi-Fi) model and now when the tablet boots up, it automatically goes into the recovery mode and does not boot up like it normally did. I want to get back to where I can boot this up normally so I can use the tablet again. Anyone have any ideas that may help me out on this?

Heimdall does require I pit file and you have to decompress the tar file first. Odin should be fine. Go to sammobile's firmware page and download stock for your tab. Use Odin to flash stock and then use Odin to flash the latest @Android-Andi TWRP. This SHOULD get your tab working again.

Update: I was able to flash the stock RIM onto my tablet and I was able to get it to boot up normally. I was then able to root and put the TWRP recovery on the tablet. It is now running the SlinKat RIM and running like a champ. By the way, I used the Odin version 3.07 to accomplish all of this.
