CM7 or CM9/CM10 - Captivate General

After playing with CM9 and CM10 for the past six months, I decided to flash back to CM 7.2 with the datadata fix and latest CM7 glitch kernel.
Results?
CM 7.2 makes my captivate feel like a new phone. It makes me wonder if Samsung was right, maybe our little cappy isn't powerful enough to handle above GB?
Has anyone else had similar results?
for me in JB (and the reason I flashed back) everything was laggy in every version of CM9, and CM10. Overclocking and installing faster kernels helped, but it STILL always felt lagged.
JB was really bringing me down, made me want to throw my phone out the window while waiting for Google Now to load.
Now, with 7.2 back on there my phone is snappy, google (which is WAY less complex) is snappy.

So after using it for a day here's some things I forgot about:
1) power saving features work correctly meaning ill have better battery life on cm 7. I tried having wifi shut off automatically in cm9/10 and it never automatically turned back on.
2) home and messaging are resident in memory. You have to flash additional add one in the newest version to get this feature.
3)faster app performance. Everything but scrolling is faster.apps open faster, games respond faster, touches aren't delayed. In cm9/10 I could text faster than my phone could display on screen. Not with cm7.
Do I miss the smoothness of butter and the slick ice interface?
Absolutely. It is a trade off.

Cm7 was good you can do a lot more but cm9 I really don't like love aokp tho I use that a lot but the only issues I have is when on Facebook or games my phone starts to heat up

Having never used CM7, I was under the impression that the captivate battery life was worse than a Samsung based ROM or cm9. But you find it to be better?

Definately better than I was getting with cm9 or cm10.
don't recall stock froyo battery life being great. I haven't been on stock since last October.

I guess every phone is different. I couldn't make it through the day on cm7. I'm now on slimbean 2.1 and can get a good day and a half on the battery.

yeah, like I said in the other thread, your mileage may vary. My phone has never made it through a day on a single charge, even on the stock rom froyo. now it's down to half a day.
That wasn't the only issue I was having with ICS/JB roms. in CM10 it would take literally almost 2 minutes for Google Now to load up. When messaging with SMS pop up, or the stock messaging App, the characters were ALWAYS about 15 seconds behind. Sometimes to the point of making me wonder if it was responding.
Some of this stuff is probably better in Slimbean, because they have trimmed the system and therefore trimmed RAM usage down to the bare essentials.

I have a captivate and my GF has a GSM Nexus S. The specs for the two phones are identical the Nexus S is just newer with a front facing camera and a flash.
She has gotten the stock update to Jelly Bean OTA. so that should show that our phone does have the hardware to support at least ICS. I am using the stable CM9. I can agree with you on the battery thing, but I bought a Samsung OEM 1800 mah battery that was meant for another phone (s2 i think), but still fits tightly. with the new battery my CM9 runs at least one day, sometimes maybe 2 with light usage.

Your post inspired me to try CM7 just for fun. So I reinstalled my old nandroid from january, and installed the latest nightly and glitch kernel, and I am amazed by the speed and fluidness. Project butter? This is much closer. Everything is super speedy, and all of my apps updated extremely fast. I really wonder what happened to all of the features that CM7 contained under the CM settings, but I suppose they were removed in order to save space. It's all great except I'm almost disgusted by the look of the UI after being on beautiful 4.0+ since november. I know I won't be able to use this for very long.

Try the GlaSSMIX theme, with the Holo ICS launcher.
It is interesting that they dropped so many features from CM9 that were in CM7.1 and 7.2.
hshaikh;
Perhaps I miss spoke; The phone is _capable_ of running the latest Android OS. In much the same way you could run Windows 7 on the lowest spec machine listed on the back of the box. But you'll get a much better experience running Windows XP on that PC, in much the same way, Gingerbread CM7 + Glitch runs better on the cappy.
Java is a resource hungry beast, and with the polish and UI improvement require more of both. FUNCTIONALLY there is not a whole lot of improvements between GB and ICS. JB adds more polish to the notification system, and Google Now.

Alright, this thread inspired me as well and few days ago i decided to flash CM7 from CM10 nightlies which i've never been before since i got this phone lol i just went straight to CM9. All i can say about CM7 in the cappy is O.M.G what a change so i decided to make it a keeper, how? well changing the UI what else lol so ok i took the plunge and made a Phone version of my RibbonICS tablet theme for CM7 together with ZduneX25 ICS layout patch and gee i'm proud of the result i'm loving it.
I have posted some screenshoots here, i'm still working on it i want to make it the best as possible.
Note: I will be releasing a slim CM7 ROM with the patches and the theme in few days, The font in the screenshoots is Comfortaa but i'll add roboto fonts to the ROM once i'm done with the theme.
If you can't wait and want to have a taste of the theme before i release it you can donate to me and I'll send you the the RC version.

That theme is VERY nice looking, look forward to trying it.
In the mean time I suggest GB users check out this theme, it's VERY polished and really makes the GB phone pop.

I missed this comment before, unrelated to CM7/9/10.
NEVER use the Facebook or Twitter app. Both stock apps are garbage. Unfortunately there is no good Facebook replacement, I've come to like Plume for Twitter, and until Slices hooks into system sharing is my goto app.
For Facebook just make a shortcut on your launcher to the mobile website. It looks EXACTLY like that app and functions faster.

I have made more modifications and fixed few bugs since last time check the new screenshoots in the same link above.
I just need to fix 2-3 other bugs and the theme will be ready to be released, i decided to make free and paid version and i'll be placing it in the google play. I will still post the CM7 slimmed down ROM with the patches and the free version of my theme when is ready.
Cheers!

For me, I have always liked the CM9 ICS ROM. I highly understand what you mean JB is very laggy due to the cappy being single processor phone in all.

CM7 Installation aborted
Hey Guys,
I was trying to do the exact same thing like the original poster but I'm getting installation aborted. Currently I have Slimbean 4.1 on my device and the CWMR Touch v5.5.0.4.
I did the following steps:
- Wipe Data
- Wipe Cache
- Install zip from sdcard and chose the cm7 file (stable). It goes through and then just gives me a Installation aborted. Do I need to have an older version of CWM perhaps? Any help here how you guys downgraded back to cm7?
Thanks.

Every time I go from a datadata to a no datadata ROM I flash the kernel first then reboot recovery and proceed. Example : DOCS v12 (ICS) boot into recovery flash JB devil or any other JB kernel then reboot recovery and install JB ROM. Vice versa if I'm going from JB to ICS, I experience no boot loops with that method just make sure you DONT reboot phone in recovery AFTER installing the kernel then ICS ROM with JB kernel wouldn't be a good idea.

Alright im ready to release the ROM i promised expect it today. Im still using cm7 with my theme and i have no intentions of going back to cm9+ but i just wish battery life be better on cm7, that's the only downside.
Im using latest glitch kernel with SIO and smartassv2, 100Mhz min and 1000Mhz max, default voltages. Any suggestions to improve battery life?

[Q] Best ROM for the MT.

I'm coming from LG Revolution land and my girlfriend has the MT. She wants her phone to be like mine and be able to tether, get rid of the dumb VM boot animation (and the power off animation if possible), and have a different theme more like mine which is kindof like GB but at the same time completely different. Any help would be awesome.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me.
Also, I'm a major fan of the thanks button and I hit it everytime someone helps me out.
Let's see...
PunkROM has a couple extra themed apps and in some respects looks more like Gingerbread and sometimes a little different; it's also been out longer than mine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262589
I built Black Lightning off Gingerbread (and PunkROM!) as a base, and integrated the safest and most stable-looking mods. So it's minimal, but theoretically powerful too if it needs to be.

I've tried them all except for punk and its come down to bouncing back and forth between cm7 and miui. why would you settle for froyo when gingerbread is so stable now? For a minute miui was the best but now that the beta cm7 are fully functional and butter smooth I am finding myself less inclined to flash and that is amazing! Ruined my Samsung captivate while I was still learning, be very careful going back to froyo roms from gingerbread on that one. Darkys killed it! My Triumph however seems unbrickable and is overclocked and stable. The stock rom was a joke and I got rid of that clumsy bastard the third day. Thanx to all the devs for working hard and kikin ass!

In CM7 - You don't--at this time anyways--unless you don't mind certain things not working since the only kernel is old and outdated at this time or unless you build your own OC kernel for CM7.
There's a couple of OC kernels available for FROYO roms atm. Just check the Dev section.

CM7 or MIUI are good ROMs, now they have worked out most of the bugs for this phone besides HDMI and something with camera mirror.
I switched over from the Optimus V and I have a gtablet, im really pleased by CM7 on this phone. I haven't had any problems at all, and the battery life with the last two releases on CM7 is great.
I will try the MIUI ROM as well though, I just chose CM7 because I have had prior experience with it.
I've never had any problems with my phone on the stock-ish ROM, but then again even on my desktop Skype appears to be mirrored (although the other side is okay)... from what I've heard, this is the way desktop Skype works.

I believe the HDMI and Mirroring problem are the custom ROM bugs, but I didn't stay on stock ROM longer then one day to find out how it was.
I am used to rooting and custom ROM's now, for me it's interesting to try different things out customizing my phone.
Edit: sorry for the confusion if I implied that HDMI and Mirroring on the camera are stock ROM bugs.
I'm refusing to switch to the Gingerbread Cyanogen mod simply because it doesn't have hdmi output. Even though I can't use the HDMI output anyway. There's probably a pill to alleviate that.

I'm refusing until you can use wifi with bluetooth, and the niggling audio bugs I keep reading about go away.
I hear that the gingerbread development is winding down now, so we may just be stuck with current cm7 and miui for a while...without fixes.
If I could just figure out what is killing battery so much faster than my optimus V, I'd be happy....

[Q] looking for a rom with my list of demands

Ok I just switched from an HTC evo from sprint to an at&t NS and I have been flashing away trying to find a rom that fits my needs and can't seem to find the right one so I want to list my list of demands in hopes that some one can point me to the right rom.
1. Most important I want it to be rock solid stable like stock rom or as close as possible.
2. Notification power Widgets.
3. Reboot options for power button.
4. Theme manager.
I tried oxygen and like it though it is missing my #4 request which I understand was just taken out but I can't seem to find the older builds to try them. I tried nscollab which has all of the features except for the first one. So which others should I try or does any one have a download link to oxygen 2.2.2? Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
1 + 2 + 3 = CM7
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = MIUI
that's my answer.
you may also can do your on modification on stock ROM
1. stock ROM is most stable
2. can be done by 3rd-party applications
3. same as point 2
4. can be done by manually modify systemui.apk and framework-res.apk
I Ment theme Chooser...the T-Mobile one that cm7 has. I don't like miui.

NSCollab latest wasn't stable for you? Because it looks like what you're looking for. Very stock look by default, CM7 theme manager support, all the goodies you're looking for... Otherwise latest CM 7.1.0 is fine too.

On NSCollab my phone wouldn't wake up about 10% of the time, which made me miss quite some alarms in the morning (this was before the Deep Idle got reinvented). Random reboots occurred maybe once a month, so that's okay. But the not waking up issue was the reason I left NSCollab.
Then I switched to NexusMV which had Trinity and that worked pretty good and stable. On his last release, Mark incorporated Matrix 9.5 and two days later my phone didn't wake up and I had a an hour later playing music. Switched to franco.kernel and not a single issue so far.
I think my phone just doesn't like your kernel All the respect to your hard work of course, many people think it's the best, but it's not for me.

I use NexusMV with Theme Choser and franco kernel its very fast 3k+ on quadrand no overclock, no random restarts or freezes yet, and has all points 1 2 3 and 4.
To get it do this:
Factory reset + wipe dalvik cache
Install -=NEXUS MV 11.01=-
Install Theme Chooser
Install Franco Kernel
then 1 more Factory Reset just in case
I use Zeam Luncher and Miren Browser
After these steps my phone works like a charm i think you would like it

Captivate kk4 based rom opinions.

Just curious about what everyone's opinions are about the roms out there based on kk4. I'm on cyanogenmod 7.2 Kang build right now, but after upgrading my wife's phone to official gingerbread I'm thinking about going back to a stock based rom. Seems really fast and smooth. Mainly I'm looking for a rom with the Tmobile theme engine and screenshot capabilities as I'd miss those if I left cyanogenmod. I'm still debating whether or not to go back to a stock based rom.

Well really just curious what everyone's using. Honestly there doesn't seem to be as many supported stock-based roms as their was on the earlier GB betas. I always used Cognition, but the most current version hasn't had an update since like July. I'm happy with Cyanogen for the most part, though it seems a bit buggier than stock. Really I just want a stock based rom with the theme engine and screenshot feature.

Neither of which exist on stock, and the first being impossible on stock.
I could of swore I've seen theme support in some of these roms. Either way guess I can always use uot kitchen.

I didn't see what the big deal was about screenshots but in the month and a half I've had cyanogenmod I've found I use the feature all the time

There are apps in the market that allow this. Shoot me is what i use...it also has a video feature, that will take a screen shot every so many seconds (depending on what you set it to) and then make it an mp4.
Oh and for theme support on a tw ROM, go to the market and get darky ota that should work. It injects the proper images and compiled xmls INTO the existing ROM, I've used it on mosaic, should work on all tw roms, I'd make a backup zip of the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk first though, that you can flash if it doesn't work. Or just reflash the ROM.

Yeah, but no theme engine. You have to flash them. Only the collectives have themes, and the others may have ICS themes.
I've thought about maybe just going to stock, removing the bloatware, installing corn kernal, installing a screenshot program, and then using UOT to get my themeing the way I want and calling it a day. That could work I suppose.

Theres already a rom like that. Check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358180
Ive been using it for about a week now and its really stable. It comes with an older corn kernel though so you might want to flash the new one.
Nice! Thanks!

I'm using the KK4-based version of SauROM (note that there's an I9000-based version too, which I haven't tried). It's mostly pretty nice, except that after a full day or maybe day and a half of use, the browser tends to go loopy. It freezes up and becomes non-responsive, and appears to be hogging the CPU, as hitting the home button doesn't repsond either. If I just put the phone down and walk away for half an hour, it's usually fine again when I get back, but I tend to just reboot instead which also fixes it. I find this annoying, but it's just infrequent enough to be tolerable. I've been meaning to try a different ROM to see if it's universal or not.

Well I was on stock rogers 2.3.3. and I found it very laggy. no matter what launcher I used: go, adw, lp, even sbp shell. after a while lag would start up that would require a reboot or the phone would just shut off. Games would start out fine then start lagging. I then flashed cm7 and noticed an immediate improvement with minor overclocking but I would still get that lag, but not as bad as stock.
I then flashed teamhacks 4.0.3 ics rc14. I can never go back to GB. It is so intuitive, very smooth. The transitions are amazing. Even with no overclocking it is miles faster than stock or CM7. I was considering buying a new phone but now I will not be.
Since you are on cm7 now why don't you flash ics . its very simple to do since you already have cm7 installed. then you can decide

I thought about it, but I'm kind of waiting for stable CM9 to be complete first. I hear it has an issue with rebooting during calls. Trust me though I'm very eager to try out ICS. I ended up going with Illuminance, so far so good. I'm currently restoring all my apps ATM. I'll report back after I"m done.
This is off topic but why is Titanium backup soo sooo slow? Why do I have to sit there and say "install" and "done" on everything? I wish I could have all the time back in my life I spent restoring stoff with titanium backup

I too was reluctant to go from CM7 to CM9, but I eventually flashed it just to check it out, with no intention of staying. Long story short, I've been using CM9 for the past two weeks and it's definitely stable enough to be a daily driver, IMHO. I believe the phone call reboot was solved (I've never had it anyway), the only issue I have had was charge death, but that was solved by switching to the Glitch kernel. If you are waiting for it to be stable, your time may have come
As far as TB is concerned, the paid version lets you batch restore your apps. Well worth the $5 or however much it was.
So far so good on ilkuminance but I miss my screen shot feature, and all the apps in the market suck. Why would I want a camera icon hogging up my screen? Anyway, I may try ICS sooner than later

I ran all of the stock GB roms, was not super impressed with them, switched to the SauROM KK4 and Love it. Very smooth, seems less buggy then stock kk4. Have had a few issues of it being unresoponsive for a minute or so everyonce in a while, but it seems to be rare.
Try SauromKK4 or FastyKK4
Advantage of SauROM is that it is one click Heimdall, and really hard to mess up.
I then tried Fasty - also pretty good.
I got the impression that SauROM is smoother.
But that Corn 7.0.5 kernel is buggy - beware!
I tried a few of the KK4 roms, but eventually went back to CM7 and Kangs because the speed and responsiveness.
Now I have a Captivate Glide and am waiting for dev to ramp up for it. The Glide is what I really wanted when I got the original a year and a half ago, so I am happy.

What ICS ROM do you like best???

I know this has been done many time let try to help each other along with the kind developers. The ones I know about are Eagles Blood, Genesis, Hellfire Sandwich, and Owain's UNOFFICIAL BUILD.
If you know of more list them. If you like one VS the other list it and explain why and compared to what. List what you do not like about each one as well. Lists of likes and dislikes.
If one Rom has one thing working and another Rom dose not maybe this could help the developers.
thanks
How about you try them out for yourself and see which one works best for you?

I have tried all 4. The point is to get ideas flowing. What problems you have on one VS the other. What you like on one VS the other. facts VS Opinion.
I personally like Owain's UNOFFICIAL BUILD, he consistently updates taking in everyone's comments. I've tried Eagles Blood, and Hellfire Sandwich and I feel I have the most freedom with Owain's. I don't believe Eagles Blood has updated their ICS Rom since March and Hellfire Sandwich you can't edit the lock screen apps
If I was incorrect with anything sorry I might have just not seen it when I had them on my phone
I personally like resurrection remix rom.

Eaglesblood's AOSP pre-release is downloadable since about 5 hours ago. There's supposed to be another release today/tomorrow.
For the pre-release (my observations - do not generalize!!!):
*NO WiFi
*Lock screen seems to be off its normal position - it has the unlock/dial/messages/camera, but the camera is somewhere under the screen (?!?!) and I didn't even know it's there until someone pointed it out.
*Battery life seems pretty bad FOR ME. I had about 90% when I flashed the ROM last night. I only installed APEX launcher, Google maps, Dolphin HD, and updated ROM Manager and did a bit of browsing and messed around with some settings - not more than 30 mins. I also set the alarm to ring in about 5 hours. Surprise, surprise: the phone was dead when I woke up because its battery had dies - hopefully the release coming today/tomorrow will fix that.
*Stock browser doesn't work for me. It shows some all black or all white screen and sometimes just quits. That's why I installed Dolphin that fixes the problems.
*Google maps sometimes turns all grey. It's still there I can zoom in and out and use all the functions but I can't see them. I have to restart it - sometimes multiple time to get it back to work.
THE LAST TWO BULLETS have been common for me in all ICS ROMs I've used (EGB AOSP, Hellfire Sandwich, Genesis) and these are the main reason ICS is cannot remain my daily driver. I keep going back to Miui.

I've been using HFS for my daily. It's pretty stable and quick, and it just works. (for me anyway).
Owain's seems really innovative, but it just had too many issues for the time being. I may come back to that one on a later date when more things get ironed out.
In the meantime, I'm awaiting the release of HSF.8

Okay for me it's like i've tested every ics rom for g2x out there except genesis.
hellfire: it's a good rom but has some data drop issues didn't try it with harsh kernel yet may be on 1.8 coming soon.
eagleblood: 4.0.4 using it right now not bad smooth but few issues camera is 5m pix the gps is awful keeps on droping signal not battery percent option. data is perfect thou no drop ,
cm9 euroskank: this was the best rom i had up until they started updating it every update had issues no data at all no sound on the latest best was 1.3
right now i'm going to try hang v63 cz hopefully it's better i love the harsh kernel thanks the team that build it.
I've been running EB AOSP since the beginning, I love it.. All the ics problem I haven't really noticed.. The rom is super fast and snappy.. I don't take pics with the stock camera so the 5mp doesn't bother me.. I picked up fxcamera when it was 50 cents on the market.. Just no video recording.. But that's with all ics roms.. I've tried the others here on xda and they all seem very laggy to me.. I don't know why.. And too I'm like the stock feel of EB ics with apex launcher I'm happy

I've tried them all out myself. I used hfs for the longest because of how stable it was. Had to do the occasional reboot, but nothing major. I started using Genesis with harsh kernel a couple of days ago, and must say I am really impressed. I've had a couple of random reboots that wasn't normal with hfs, but I'm digging everything else. I just wish someone would fix the major camera issue! I'm a little ROM happy as I work for TMobile and am always trying to keep on the up and up. Hell, I'll try anything as long as it doesn't fry my beloved G2x!

I flashed from stock GB 2.3.4 (after downgrading my BB) yesterday with EB 4.0.4 (5/20 nightly) and have been surprised with it.
I'm having some issues with the sim , can't read my number or VM number and a strange issue with mobile data after a service dead spot (like on the subway) but a reboot corrects that....
All and all a good ics experience

I personally love AOKP. It's probably the smoothest and most stock 4.0.4 rom i've ever used. It has big support and a nice website with everything you need. It also has a simple rom control and theme manager in the settings and that's it. No other cluttered crap. I love the continuing updates and support. I haven't experienced one force close or overheat yet with this one. It's a keeper. [:
I don't like ANY of the ICS ROM's that are out currently. Until LG/nVidia releases the drivers for the tegra2 and G2X, I won't be pleased with what's out there.

[Q] Whats so great about ICS?

So I'm currently running 2.3.6 as is out of the box, rooted, on my Skyrocket from ATT. If I switch to an ICS build of any kind, what am I gaining?
Can anyone convince me of why ICS is awesome and worth upgrading to?

Not much. It looks MUCH much nicer. We're talking 'beautiful' levels of UI changes. But other then that, not so much.
If you care how your phone looks (I do, I feel much more productive and use it better if I feel like it's a flashy looking device) then get ICS. If you don't, just wait.
Edit: Battery life is a bit better supposedly, but beyond that not too much

Yes you can run TiBu, backup your apps and reinstall after you update the rom and restore from TiBu. Make sure you restore apps & data only, do not restore any system settings.
I'm running AOKP with Apex Launcher and love the clean base look and feel. http://aokp.co/index.php/news

ICS is a very huge update, and a lot of it goes beyond just bullet point features (for which the list is a mile long)
Basically, ICS represents a near ground-up overhaul of the entire operating system, to make something smoother, faster, and more attractive, while adding a ton of small usability features that individually might not be much but add up to a big difference.
It's the biggest update in the history of the OS, plain and simple, and I've been through all of them since Cupcake (ok, I might have skipped Donut).

I've tried both Cyanogenmod9 nightly, and embryo 3.2.
Without a doubt, embryo 3.2 is probably the coolest, most stable, and light-weight mod I've used. It's carefully tested and very stable. It retains touchwiz, has s-voice which works incredibly well, comes pre-installed with Titanium and superSU etc..
I liked cyanogenmod too, but it's still pretty buggy in its early stages.
Since I installed embryo 3.2, I haven't even bothered to look around at anything else.
Switched to seanzscreams skyics rom from gingerbread stock and I have not looked back. I had exceptional battery life in gb with the use of juice defender but in ics using jd only made it worse. So that convinced me right there. The way I look at it is why would you not want to upgrade to the newest release of android? Or at least just try it out. Use rom manager (assuming you're rooted or willing to root) to make a system image backup. It will literally back up everything that your phone is running. If you're dissatisfied with ics just revert back with rom manager.

Speaking of juice defender.
I'm having a terrible issue with "cell standby" eating through my battery. Today, I stuck juice defender on to see if i could curb the radio battery abuse.
I *do not* want to have to rely on something like juice defender to protect my battery from the cell standby issue. I'm just at a loss of what to do otherwise.
I'm all for trying seanzs sky ics, but i'm afraid that i'll just continue to have the same problem. after researching the issue, it appears that a lot of people who try roms of all types across various phones have the cell standby issue eating up juice.
ics 4.0.4 is very nice to the eyes if you had two phones one on gb and one on ics then you would tell there's just no comparison.
if you go with ics then look at aokp its very nice and about the closest your going to get to official google ics 4.0.4 .
Seriously just install the latest cm9 with ucle2 radio and instigators kernel try it and fall in love... Gb had its place but i very much doubt i could ever go back

One thing to point out on ICS is that the Skyrocket's processor APQ8060 was never fined tuned for Gingerbread 2.3.5 or 2.3.6. So the UI was choppy, and so was the video (when playing XviD encoded video).
I can wholeheartedly say ICS UI is much smoother, and the video playback is as smooth as it can be. The battery life on UCLF5 in my opinion is a big improvement over any ROM to date. It offers some small UI improvements in the taskbar, but a lot more under the hood.
With that said, Touchwiz kinda make it look all the same, which is a big downer. I use Apex Launcher to bring back the native ICS feel.
Everything is better. 2. Whatever version is like windows mobile, its dead. Really
Chimaira Android 4.0.4 (Beta2)
uh oh, major problem now. so i installed the paid premium rom manager, installed clockworkmod recovery, clockworkmod touch, and then used the download ROM, chose Cyanogenmod nightly, chose a distro from 7/2/12, phone rebooted, installed, rebooted, stuck in boot loop. when i go to recovery using the volume and power buttons i get the clockwork mod recovery 5.8.1.3 screen, but when i hit down volume to choose anything it freezes, goes, black, and refreshes with "reboot system now" selected.
now "reboot system now" is my only option, if i hit up or down, it will move to that choice, go black, and refresh and show "reboot system now" selected instead. ahhhh what do i do??
** escaped soft brick** phew
You do realize 5.8.1.3 is a "TOUCH" recovery. You dont use the volume rockers. When you try....recovery resets. You see it as freezing. And when you install the rom you need to wipe cache, dalvik, format data, format system. Then install rom. Hope things make sense now.
You ask what's so great about ICS. Well what's so great about apple pie? What's so great about American? What's so great about freedom? Explosions? Awesome movies? Oh yeah. EVERYTHING.
If you flash a ics rom, you should try aokp or chimera. Both awesome roms.

You should never use rom manager to do all of that. You should have done it step by step using a guide made for you, the noob.
