SGH-i535 4g LTE not connecting - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

on verizons version of the sgs3, phone connects to 3g but no 4g. recently got locked out by verizon and had to reflash the stock rom via odin, since then I have re-rooted, unlocked the bootloader, and flashed CM10 nightly. while the galaxy was out of commission i reactivated by old (DINC2, 3g) phone, so i'm not sure if that had something to do with it. first noticed 4g wasn't working after flashing CM10. tried restoring to the stock rom, factory reset, pulling sim card and even suspending/reactivating service via verizonwireless.com thinking it would reset the sim card... running out of ideas on how to get the 4g to come back! please help!! any ideas or pointers are very much appreciated!

No that did print a number... Ten digits or so followed by / 01

I suggest downloading the "Phone Info" app from Google Play, going under device settings, and ensuring that the "Set Preferred Network Type" drop down is set to "LTE/CDMA/EvDo".

If that doesn't work drill through the Settings/(Wireless and Networks) More Settings/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names menus and ensure that "LTE - Verizon Internet" is selected and not EHRPD.

Adding putting a few MODS on my phone it would never register 4G LTE anymore only 3G. After I downloaded that Phone Info app I selected the LTE/CDMA/EvDo as preferred and it fixed my problem. Thanks for the suggestions.

worked for a while...
so changing my settings in the phone info app worked since my last post... but now the same thing is happening again. i did notice that in phone info, LTE/CDMA/EvDo is no longer a choice... the closest thing to this is "LTE/GSM/CDMA auto". selecting this doesn't fix the problem.
really wish i could figure out why this keeps happening! I don't remember even installing anything that might have changed any settings... since i lost 4g again, i tried all the other suggestions jaeger gave me, none helped. i also updated to the newest CM10 nightly.
any ideas?
thanks!

no problem, i'll get on it tomorrow. think it'll work?

Assuming you never lost your IMEI, I think it should definitely fix the problem.

no dice
restored to stock and formatted, didn't change anything. checked phone info to ensure device is set to LTE/CDMA/EvDo. i'm definitely in an area that has 4g, which i know since my room mate is connected.
time to take it to verizon? kinda lost in terms of what else to try. any other ideas?

so i also noticed, after going back to jaegers post, that in the mobile network settings, it keeps defaulting to EHRPD. switching it to LTE - Verizon internet doesn't change anything, but after rebooting it always reverts to EHRPD - verizon internet. don't know if this is related or not.

I've noticed that Juice Defender will cause this if you allow it to control 2G/3G/4G - in my case disabling that control in Juice Defender and then resetting things in Phone Info and the APNs fixed it. If you aren't using Juice Defender though, I'm sorry but I have no idea what else could be causing the problem, unless perhaps you have something scripted relating to data in Locale or Tasker?

yeah, i had considered that before. i do use juice defender, but since changing roms and restoring to stock hasn't fixed it i think it's safe to assume that isn't the problem.
i took the phone to a verizon store today, and apparently according to the guy that helped me, this is a known issue. he said it should be fixed with the next software update. does this even make sense since i was having the same trouble with official AND custom roms? i mean, the custom roms don't use the same software, right? regardless, i asked him to send me a new phone anyway and it should be here on monday.
he warned me that it might be a used/refurbished phone, but that i could check on this by checking the meid. anybody know how exactly i would go about doing that without having to drive to the store?
thanks!

[GUIDE] How to get your MMS back in CM10

Thanks to Shadrach in #verizons3 for helping put the final piece in this together.
So it's well known that after your first reboot you will lose your phone number and therefore lose your ability to send MMS. Here is how to solve it.
Update
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/21023/
When this update gets merged, you will be able to skip the part with phone info to get 4g back. I've tested and confirmed. I will be updating the post today with quicker steps. (and you can get it in invisiblek's newest build http://goo.im/devs/invisiblek/i535/r...tlies/testing/ (That's as of today, August 11th. Probably tomorrow you'll want to check http://goo.im/devs/invisiblek/i535/r...cial.nightlies )

Needed: Phone Info (Get it from the market). (Needed only if you're getting 3g instead of 4g when you do this)
1. Go into system settings->More...-> Mobile Networks -> CDMA Subscription. Change to NV.
2. Hit back button and then click airplane mode button on the menu. Wait for the connection disappear. Then uncheck airplane mode and wait for it to come back and give you an empty triangle for a connection
3. Go back to system settings->More...-> Mobile Networks -> CDMA Subscription. and change to RUIM. Repeat step 2 except you should actually have 3g or 4g now, depending on the build. If you have 3g then see below.
Using this method I can do the whole process in under a minute.
You may have lost data which is where phone info comes in. If you lost data:
1. Go to system settings->More...-> Mobile Networks. Change network mode to LTE/CDMA
2. exit out that menu and 3g should come back but either way go into phone info.
3. In phone info go to phone information then scroll down and change set preferred network type to either LTE/CDMA auto (PROL) or LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL).
Data + MMS is now restored. Enjoy.
Addendum: For some people the reactivation screen comes on after they switch to NV. You can ignore it and hit the home button.
Can somebody confirm that is working, also thanks for this

anyway, question is this:
in the cm10 thread it was suggested by many that 3g totally sucked in cm10 and that if you weren't in a 4g area you'd have major issues with data connection on 3g networks. does this fix resolve that problem as well then?
i've been holding off on cm10 because of the concern over lack of 3g. i'm not in a 4g region so it's 3g or nothing for me at the moment. i'd love to give cm10 a whirl but don't want to lose data.
thanks for the info!
I can attest to 3G sucking balls. Paranoid Android is so badazz too but I just can't deal with lack of service

Unable to get 4g back after using Phone App.

I selected the (CDMA auto PRL) for 3g only then didn't like it so i wanted to switch back but it would not let me. so now i'm stuck on 3g selected (CDMA auto PRL) every time I try to switch the setting to something else it just reverts back. Did anyone else have this issue? Please is their a fix? I need help to get the 4g back on my phone. (Galaxy S3 Verizon, rooted)

The same thing happened on my non-rooted Verizon S3 after using Phone Info app. Verizon tech said my phone was defective. When I went into Best Buy, they started switching my phone to a new S3 and it still did it...found it was the sim card. After I got a new one, it's been working ever since.
I have posted the fix in about 4 other threads...you need to reprovision your device with the dialer code

Does this Re-provision code work with 4.1.1, I've been reading that it only works with ICS builds? I can't get 4G lte ever since rooting my phone and I've tried every thing but this. I don't want to try it though unless I know for sure that it works with jelly bean.

Id say delete the phone info app or wait until it's updated to be compatible with jellybean. 3g is almost then same as lte anyways at least with my phone I almost always have a strong lte signal. The s4 chip in the gs3 was designed to be a power saver on lte compared to older chips

Ok, so if I delete the app is my phone still stuck in 3g mode somewhere in else in the phone then? I guess what I mean is does deleting app force the phone to run off the APN settings? And if this still doesn't work can I use the re-provision code ( *2767*3855#) that I saw earlier in the thread? Finally is there a way to simply check if my SIM card is screwed?

[Q] Synergy 4g issue (user error)

First off, let me say that I love this ROM. it is my first time flashing a phone and it has been a great experience. I haven't had a problem until today. Probably should not have done this, but I did my weekly *228 to update roaming capabilities, and ever since, I have been unable to get a 4G signal. I'm guessing I messed up my APNs or something?
Anyway I re flashed the ROM, and for a second it popped up, but no luck; back to 3g.
What can I do to fix without losing all my apps, settings, etc as it took me 2 days to get everything to normal after the first flash.
Samsung s3 Verizon I535
Thanks!
*228 can fry a sim card on a 4G phone. There is never a reason to do it. Go to verizon and get a new sim card. Do not tell them your rooted (you do not need to return to stock), just tell them you already spoke to a tech on the phone and this is what he said to do. That will keep questions and them playing with your device to a minimum.
Start there and report back private!

I did it without any issues twice. Walk in like you own the place and tell them what you need. They will do it. Not the end of the world either if he notices root, they still need to give you a new card, but they won't even check. You'll be fine

Popped the SIM card out of my phone, walked in close to closing time, told them to give me another one.
Bing bang boom, and now I have 4g again.
On another note, they were all like "yeah you shouldn't do the *228 on a 4g phone, and the other two people that WORKED there didn't even know that. I told them they might want to be a bit more informative about something like that.
Anyways, I think I have found me a nice little forum I always donate to forums that I like, so point me in the right direction. I would also like to donate a little something to the synergy boys/girls.
I'm sure there is a link to donate on the Synergy page...
Glad that worked out for you, you wouldn't have liked the next option to fix it...............!
Good info. Didn't know I shouldn't do *228. Glad I know now. Thanks.

Data drops

Hi guys,
Seems like I'm getting 4G data drops off T-Mobile. It connects for like, 7 seconds, then drops, then connects again. I've tried both radios and ROM's available (stock) and the same problem exists.
I'm going to return the phone as-is to the customer with the issue partly unresolved, mainly because it does connect voice and MMS, just the data has issues.
Any ideas before I give him the phone back?

Almost forgot, the APN fix is ONLY for T-Mobile users. So don't flash if you're on Straight Talk.

Droid MAXX on T-Mobile?

I want to buy the Droid MAXX off-contract to use on T-Mobile (my Nexus 4 just broke). But I'm having trouble figuring out how to do that? Verizon wants me to pay month-to-month and with a plan? How do I just buy the darn phone?
I had a terrible time trying to just buy the phone outright through them. I was at the Verizon store for about 3 hours. Finally got it, went home, then saw the dev edition was out. So if I were you I would just get the dev model if its not sold out straight from Moto's website.

I'd just tell em straight up I don't want service I want the damn phone or I'll go elsewhere. Works for me all the time.

I just want to buy the phone. I would have never thought it would be this hard to convince a business to take my money!
Droid maxx on T-Mobile
I switched my XT1080m to T-Mobile today and everything is working perfectly... Just switch preferred network to LTE/GSM/UMTS and I haven't had anymore problems...
And my Droid Maxx is not a developer edition either, just swap out Sims
Mind if I ask where you are located? I'm debating on switching my Maxx to T-Mobile as well.

U are having issues. Trust me. See that your MDN is unknown? Issue number one? Now try make a call. Will take two attempts as the first always fails. There is a bad LTE HSPA handoff issue right now on 4.4 that according to another thread, moto knows about

Thats really odd? Couple questions.
What baseband do you have listed?
When you place or receive a call, do you drop LTE?
Have you been able to send and receive text?
Check the thread below

It did take a little playing around but... Data hasn't been a problem... Although I could not send texts...
Then after playing around I got everything to work with no issues after switching to LTE /GSM /UMTS... Txts calls and data are fine...
Baseband is msm960pro_bp_2323.026.100.00R

Does it hold LTE while on a call? Mine is setup just like yours and mine kills LTE, fails first call attempt, picks up HSPA+ then calls.

Thats what I was trying to get to. I was under the impression that you were on constant LTE with no issues. Now that you say you leave it on H+ that makes sense. Not to worry, H+ pulls about 9Mb/s where as when im on VZW LTE I pull about 8.

I had a maxx running 4.4 kitkat using the phone info app and settings tweak on HSPA with WCDMA preferred as the setting. I am in a refarmed area in N.C cant tell any big difference between speed when I had the Iphone 5 on Tmobile LTE and the Maxx with HSPA. Seems just as fast.
Then i broke the screen on the maxx -_- instead of replacing the screen just got a new phone since Im not with verizon and it would have been 345 to replace the screen.
Just got a new one but its running 4.2.2 and am using the same settings with same results. :good:

Can you see if you activate LTE how it functions? Curious to know if this bug was introduced in 4.4

When I first got the phone I thought the same, I actually was under the impression the LTE wouldnt even pick up with my Tmobile sim on 4.2.2 Before I made the settings changes, I had my wifi on, LTE showed active on the status bar, I shut my wifi off, and it reverted to HSPA but did not have any active data, or any active cellular functions. I re activated the wifi, the LTE status came back but still had no cellular functions, the data I did have was obviously coming from my wifi and not cell data. For some reason I though 4.2.2 I didnt have to make any changes and HSPA would work automatically, but I guess not. Im not picky though as long as it works somehow, I am happy.

Maybe a reboot and retry? Do this for me. Turn off wifi and set pref mode to LTE/Gsm/umts. Leave the pref network to auto and try that
Maxx'd out Kit Kat
Gave that a shot with no luck. Was there a specific network mode I was supposed to select in the phone info app? I had in the phone settings LTE/GSM/UMTS and network on auto, i scrolled through a bunch of the selections in the phone info app with no luck, just HSPA and no connection.
Just got me the Dev Edition ordered. Says in stock but shipping may take 7days. Going to use mine on at&t for now
