flashing apropriated kernel for SL I9100G for CynagonMod 9 - General Questions and Answers

flashing apropriated kernel for SL I9100G for CynagonMod 9
Hi there i´m a noob,
i have flashed my Galaxy SL I9100G successfull on the latest Build of CynagonMod 9.
before i´ve flashed the ICS LP7 - 5.5.0.4 Kernel. Because it was suggested in an other android forum
to get work Cynagonmod 9 work.
My question: which kernel is the best for the SL I9100G device to work with CM9 ?
I have seen there are other Kernels listed in the thread: [KERNEL][GT-I9100G][GB+ICS/LP7] ClockworkMod Recovery 5:
GB - 5.0.2.8
ICS - 5.5.0.4
Are this Kernels better than the ICS LP7 - 5.5.0.4 kernel?
I would like to work with a stabil ROM Manager, which let me make backup´s, etc...
and maybe flashing other ROM´s but the LP7 is a little bit buggy.
In the above named thread their is also a statement which make me a little bit afraid:
Don't use this kernel on aosp based roms like CyanogenMod!!!
But i have flashed CynagonMod 9 with one of the suggested kernels. have i make a mistake?

Well there is one little thing we need to know? How important is the phones camera to you?
There are ROMs which are based on stock and have modifications to speed up your phone and apply one theme.
But there are also ROMs which are based on another android version and they use open source drivers. (MIUI; CyanogenMod, short CM) Unfortunately the camera and some other little things (e.g. Hardware supported HD video playback) are currently not working as they should. But they go some steps further in terms of speed and customisation.

Well, it's a long time ago that I've installed a stock based cROM. But one I would try would be:
vurrutROM for XXKPU with vurrutKernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1451218
Guides for installing cROMs and updating to XXKPU are all found in the development section...
P.S. There is really no need to create thousands of threads, this only makes everything confusing and splits the discussion. This is no chat room, so it can take some time untill you get an answer. I will report the threads to a mod so that he can merge them...

[Q] AOSP and Air Kernel

Hello all,
First of all, happy new year to the xda developer community. I'm new on this forum so pardon me if my question seems to be a little bit above the level of your common posts
I'm running this ROM on my Nexus S : AOSP Strawberry Jelly Bean ROM for Nexus S! [Android 4.1.2] (found on http://nexusshacks.com)
Kernel included is from [email protected] what like 3.0.31-28_rel-gd11f-2a1.
I tried to switch to another kernel found on xda-developers forum : [KERNEL] Air Kernel [4.2.X - Weekly : #465 | 4.1.X - Final Build! ] [3.0.57]
First i did a wipe cache and then a wipe dalvik cache, then install the kernel, reboot and it optimized 84 applications but i don't see the new kernel installed in the "about this phone" menu and i can't access optimizations features.
Do i miss something ?
Happy new year
You flashed the wrong kernel. That is for GALAXY NEXUS, not NEXUS S.
Here is the AirKernel thread for Nexus S: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469842

Ok, thank you. By the way, which one do i have to choose between here
- My ROM is AOSP but it is a jb version modified. So i guess, i am interested in this download version :
<for CM10, CM10.1, JellyBean 4.2.X & 4.1.X ROMs, ...>
※NHB : Non-High Bigmem
Download : http://sdrv.ms/VRaA6u
Am i right ?
Again, thank you,
THIS:
<Other ROMs - Stock, AOKP, ...>
※NHB : Non-High Bigmem
Download : http://sdrv.ms/VRawnv
Stock = AOSP (Android Open Source Project)

[Q] Flashing kernel

Hey there,
I have recently flashed to Kyrillos v10.6. This rom contains ICS theme but it is not fully supported by my phone. Can it be because of the kernel? If yes, is it possible to flash a new kernel or it will ruin the rom? ( I guess the current kernel came with the rom).
Thanks for your answers.
flashing kernel
no you cant flash a new kernel for the rom.

whats the best rom for my tab

I have recently been convinced to root my tab 2 7.0, however I really dont know what rom would be best for me. i would prefer something obviously better than my stock rom, still have my seven screens, and something as user friendly as possible. please help, thanks.

CyanogenMod
CM 11 (Android KitKat) NIGHTLIES
CM 10.1 (Android 4.2 Jelly Bean) STABLE
CM 9 (Android 4.0 ICS) STABLE
CWM Based Recoveries
There are hundreds of roms available. It differs from person to person which roms he/she likes.
I personally like CyanogenMod. Just look here and find a rom.
Almost all threads have a guide how to install the rom. If you don't like the rom you just simply install another one.
If you want to get started, install CWM Recovery as listed above.

[Q] Is cyanogenmod 11 a custom rom??

Explanations needed about custom roms for the Tab 2.
I have install CM 11 ver 4.4.4 on a Acer A700 & Nook HD+; no problems. Now with the Tab 2, I see all kinds of "custom roms" but the ver from Cyanogenmod isn't listed as a custom rom in the 'everything you want to know about the Galaxy Tab 2' thread or something like that.
I do see SlimKat, OpenKang, Expresso, Omnirom, etc but no mention of Cyanogenmod (CM 11) except as that the custom roms were derived from it(?). The big question is that should I use one of the listed/known "custom roms" or stay with what I got from the Cyanogenmod site even if the Cyanogenmod wasn't listed as a "custom rom"?
I guess the problem is that I've only encountered the A700 & Nook HD+ with only 1 version of CM 11 on the XDA forums. Since Cyanogenmod has their own website, was that the reason that it wasn't listed or considered as a custom rom?
Definitely some confusion here. HELP!

Yes, CM11 is a custom ROM. The version from CM's site works well.
If you are looking for other good custom ROM's, I would try @Android-Andi's Homemade OmniRom.
It has multi-window and really good battery life since he fixed the KK battery drain in his version.
SlimKat is another good choice. If you flash CM11, you should also flash @Android-Andi's AA_Anykernel CM version and the vendor blobs.
His kernel fixes the battery drain issue.

Just remember that not everybody has the drain (I never have) so may not need Andis super Kernel and may be able to try others. FYI
