tf300t Killed my files - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm seeking assistance in restoring files that my tablet killed XD
I pulled memory card out of my my phone and installed it in my tf300t to watch movies and pictures i've taken on a bigger screen... after which the tablet created a folder called lost.dir and corrupted many of my pictures, videos and mp3s
Is there anyway to restore the files? There's about 8 big files in lost.dir folder some of them are joined together mp3's which i can open and play and some of them cannot be opened using anything
I really need to restore my pictures and videos or i'm just gonna kill myself :silly:

evidently the filesystem on your sd card was damaged and your tablet tried to fix it running fsck (or wathever android uses), did you properly shut down the camera before removing your card?
that directory is where linux filesystem recovery utility saves orphan files (files for whom directory data like name and lenght is lost) so they wont be overwritten and you can try something to recover them.

yes,i safely removed the sd card from my phone.Try something like what?i searched all over the internet and i cant find anything :S
this forum is my last chance XD

if its the external sdcard and you have a pc to plug it in try useing smth like getdataback (not free) or recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva (free) and let it scan the card.
gl
cheers

i already tried to restore the files..it restores already the corrupted ones...

[URGENCY] please how recover deleted files in SD?

Now my cousin is in holiday abroad and accidently he has deleted tomtom maps folder from sd.
He have not use explorer like resco files so there isn't recycled bin!
And me I know recover method with a computer
But how undelete files directly in his htc p3600 / trinity ?
please how help him?
You might be able to use a file recovery program on the PC to try and recover files from there. I don't know if there is such a program for the phone itself.
http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/filerecovery.html
Here is a freeware program you can try. I have never used it, but others will cost you money and will probably do the same thing.
You cant recover files from SD cards, they dont work like hard drives.
yes they do in the case of one being able to undelete from them
flash have a limited number of writes before they die
so it's natrual that they just delete the ref to the files
in the "fat"
But i know already recovery sd from trinity with pc when trinity is usb mass storage (softick card export) and a file recovery tool... But situation of my cousin don't allow to do this.
Someone can confirm if a ppc tool exist to recovery or it's impossible?
put the sd card in a sdcard reader for pc
and use a program like undelete plus and pick the drive
the sdcardreader represent
and choose scan
pick the files you want to undelete and click undelete
end of story
Rudegar: thats a new one. My bad.
ive always used and swear by sandisk rescuepro, might be hard to find.
The OP is saying that his cousin doesn't have access to a PC at the minute as he's on holiday.. he seems aware of PC recovery but would like to do it directly on the PPC...
As for that I've not seen anything that can do it myself directly on the PocketPC though it would be good...
You could possibly get a HexEditor and use that to do it directly on the card on the PPC as the files will only have been marked for removal and not actually removed.. but then again I doubt a card filesystem writes continually.. (thats bad for the life of the flash so it will random write across the card in small chunks)
The best idea would be to remove the card until he's back (to prevent any writes to it which could damage data making recovery impossible) and recover on a PC as suggested by everyone else.
i agree, do it right on a pc. dont try to recover on the ppc.

Invisible Files on MicroSD Card?

All of the sudden, all the files on my SD card went missing! I was transferring music and video files to the device over USB (as a storage card, per the custom ROM USB/PC feature) and after it was done, it showed my card as blank.
I took the card out of the phone (XV6900) and put it into my SD adapter and into my computer. The 4GB card shows that 1.8GB are in use when I go to properties, however, there are no files at all in the root of the drive! Like they are invisible! (Yes, I have Windows set to show all hidden and system files, so that is not the problem)
How do I get my files to reappear? It looks like they are not actually deleted! i don't get why this happened all of the sudden
you can try an undelete program and check the sdcard while in the reader
undelete programs can handle sdreaders just like they can hd's

I'm using the same 4GB card as my old phones. this never happened on my Titan or TouchPro, each of which I have for a year or so. I have had a Vogue for 1 week and it has happened twice! does the XV6900 wipe the card periodically or when performing certain actions? even on a ROM update/flash it should touch the SD card when running from the RUU package in windows

How to fix a corrupted SD card

Hi everybody.
Is anybody has a way to retrieve data on a corrupted SD Card. I have a Sandisk 8GB which became corrupted after connecting the phone on an old PC.
All the content is still there I Guess (size of free space/used space is correct) but the name of the SDCard and of each folder and files are like... unreadable :
]░╣j╣Ð.%Ê
I tried HDD regenerator which regenerate ... nothing and Recuva like retriev only some images.
But i have some files very important on this card.
Please is anybody has a solution?
Well, now, tried Handy recovery. I saw my files, I can retrieve them but once retrieved, system said the file is corrupted. I used SPB Backup to create my saves.

you could run chkdsk on windows or look for some other file recovery software.
Check out wizcode software. They've got a few options (undelete, unformat, scandisk). I use scandisk all the time, and it does a good job fixing corruption. But when you have screwed up directories, it may be too late.
Try this software
DDR - Memory Card Recovery
I had a corrupted 16Gig Card and it retrieved all. I could not even see any files on the card and Windows kept telling me to reformat. It costs 50.00.
Hi,
First of all due to virus your card is corrupted and you can see your card like ]░╣j╣Ð.%Ê etc. Check out your anti virus for updated virus definition and scan your system and for your card follow the same way, scan your card , you will get your files back to original and if you could not get them back to original state then you have to use a third party data recovery software.
You can check Kernel for FAT and NTFS software for the same, it will preview you the data in scan mode and if you want then can save the desired files to specific location.
Thanks

[Q] SD card not working after 2.2

Sorry for this thread, Ive managed to get it working now
Ok actually Im still having a problem with this, so heres the story
Figured I'd try here for some help here, I have a Bell SGS Vibrant, got tired of waiting for Froyo so I tried a stable build (think its stable ) anyways everything is great overall except now I cant use my external SD card, it says that its write protected, I know that sometimes cards can do that, but I had an idea and was wondering if anyone here could tell me if I was on the right path
I noticed I had a LOST.DIR and .android_secure folders now on my external SD card, from what Ive read its for Mac I believe.... anyways, I noticed the extensions and was wondering if that was the problem, for example looking at my internal SD card its in /mnt/internal_sd/sd directory, so now looking at my external SD its /mnt/internal_sd/external_sd, is that how it should be layed out? I was wondering if I was having problems due to the external SD card being in the internal SD card directory
Model number GT-I9000
Version 2.2
Baseband version I9000XXJP2
Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number GT-I9000-eng 2.2 MASTER 332 test-keys.332
Just noticed something new when I try to connect the phone in mass storage mode it still says write protected, but when I have it in Kies mode, Windows has it show up as a phone and I can add or delete files that way
From what I know the Lost.dir folder is for files that get corrupted during transfer. At least on the broken flash I have all incomplete transfers go there.
Also its normal that when viewing the contents of your phone through a file explorer on your device that the external SD is in the /sdcard/external_sd/ folder
Now to your problem...have you tried formatting your card?

Ok so I was on the wrong track then, thanks for the info I appreciate it
Ya I only brought up the LOST.DIR cuz I hadnt seen it before in the file system
I have tried formatting it but Win7 is a POS when it comes to formatting it always fails (plus dunno if a FAT format will work properly with Android?), perhaps Ill try it on my Ubuntu laptop and see if I can do it that way, I dont think its a card issue as I have tried another card with the same result, then again its not like 2 cards cant be corrupted
Ill post back here after trying that
Tried formatting it didnt solve the problem, also tried another card that I know isnt corrupted since it works on my wifes BlackBerry, its the same thing, so this is an OS issue
Done lots of Googling but have come up empty
Anyone have any ideas?

micro sd card - strange trouble

so i took out my memory card and put it in a new card reader, the card reader did something funny and all files & folders disappeared and there was just one 0kb file named USB&somegarbage. I put the card back in the phone and it surely created the DCIM folders again etc.
I then connected it to icare data recovery and i am able to see that all the files are still there with most of them not corrupted but the folder names are gone,I wondering if there is a way for me to recover the original file structure back? any one?
Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, I would just recover everything and just format that card. When you reinsert the card, the phone should restore default folders back and just place your data in the respective folders. I don't think there is anything you really need to add new folders for, other than the default unless you had a specific folder arrangement for photos or something like that.
Format the card to NTFS not FAT.
Do it either on your PC or Mac.
But you must install a NTFS app on the android, otherwise the device will not recognise the card.
You can format the card to NTFS using the app too.
The app will auto mount the card when the device is turned on.
I've found this method more stable than having the card in FAT mode.
I'm surprised Samsung haven't sorted this out yet!
:crying:
