Okay so here is the problem I am having. I think its time to update my OS but not 100% sure on how to do so. I am still running google talk version 1.3 (I have tried to update to newer version). I have tried to update to a newer version of google talk but have had problems doing so. When I go to the playstore google talk is not even one of the apps listed. However when I go to my settings > manage applications > it seems that this is a app that was pre installed on my device. My friend said that I have to update my OS to get the newer version.
Here is some info on my phone, hope this helps...
Hardware Version: I500.04
Model Number: SCH-I500
Firmware Version: 2.3.5
Baseband Version: S:i500.04 V.EH03
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: SCH-I500.EH03
When I go to system updates > check new > I have no new software system updates.
When I go to system updates > status > Last known update was performed December 8th 2011// update was for Android 2.3
Please if anyone can help me out i'd greatly appreciate it!

Forgot to add that this is a Verizon phone. The back of the phone displays "Galaxy S" but when I got the phone Verizon said it was a Samsung Fascinate.
Go to the Samsung Fascinate forum. Check the Android Development section. You can root and go to ICS or JB is you want

Jordan, thats what we were looking at the other day. I think the main question is, "Are they done releasing OTA updates for this phone?"

More then likely yes, even if not, you really don't need OTA's.

I know he doesn't NEED them, but he is very green on this stuff and I didn't want to start rooting and throwing roms all on his phone right before he traveled. I'm his buddy he mentioned in the first post. I assumed they were done releasing OTA's on it but wasn't sure. We need to get him on 2 gcaht accounts for personal and work on the phone, thus the post. Guess we'll just mod this thing! Thanks for your help.

Haha, man it flies stock.. They're getting close on the bootloader issue, good things come with time I guess. Got the HTC Inspire $99 when I switched, then sold the Showcase for $275 + CS Blackberry Curve 2. Sold Curve the next Day for $125. So made a Total of $400 off of the Showcase deal. Found this Atrix used for 3 days with an Otterbox Defender Case for $400. Saw his AT&T receipt for it. He didnt like it, and wanted to go back to an Iphone... Even though I jumped ship I still appreciate your, and all other Devs work.

Ok, now that I have the kernel downloaded, how do I flash it since CWM doesn't support the Showcase?
Every time I try to flash a kernel I keep getting the stupid Amend/Edify scripting error. Sucks when trying to update this blasted phone.
Are you trying to run CWM3? That's a no go there.

Yea, if you updated your CWM via rom manager then you'll need to go flash our custom CWM 2.5.x (see phidelt's kernel/recovery post (stickied in this forum) which links to a list in the fascinate forum that has the file you need.)
Rom manager was only used to update our CWM in 2.1, post 2.1 it's not supported so you might as well save yourself some trouble and uninstall it .

Guess it doesn't really matter now anyways. Clicked the wrong button when I was using Odin to load the CWM and put my phone into a boot loop. Now to get a stock CS ROM to reload my phone.
Actually, at this point I don't care if it's stock or not, just as long as I can get something loaded back on my Showcase and get it active with CS.

This thread is about the Showcase, not the Mesmerize.
***THIS IS OUT OF DATE SINCE THE EE25 BUILD WAS RELEASED. I AM WORKING ON UPDATING THE PNP FOR IT. I HAVE RELEASED EE25 ELSEWHERE, BUT CS HAS HAD BUILDS PULLED FROM XDA SO I WILL MORE THAN LIKELY NOT RELEASE FULL BUILDS HERE FOR CS PHONES. CHECK OUT THE IRC ROOM FOR MORE INFO***
This is the PnP for the Showcase. It has the EE23 modem with it that needs to be flashed with Odin. Download. Unzip. Flash the modem in Odin. Put the ROM on your sdcard and flash in CWM recovery. It is CWM 3.x friendly.
This one is different from other PnP's for the Showcase in that I've changed a few things to make it a little more generic so that maybe we can keep this one around this time. Boot animation and sound are generic as are a few other things, but it should function better than the previous build. Let's try to keep this one under the radar so CS doesn't take it away from us again.
Big thanks to Baked Tator for the power options and puzzle lock on this build. I'm sure he'll be working on some themes for it as he gets time, also.

No, the deal was, I got hold of the EB11 build and posted it. I also made the PnP from it. CS found out about it and came to XDA and made them take it down. To try to keep this from happening again, we're taking this approach. I just built the ROM and added the modem update with it hoping that maybe would leave us alone. As far as I know, CS can't disable you phone just for having a ROM on it other than stock. They can deny your warranty if you screw the phone up, though.

Since I don't have a Showcase I can't really talk to the changes in the modem personally. Generally each release has bug fixes. I'm not sure if this one helps gps like other new modems, but it's possible.

Well spoken.
Thanks for this & all your other great [SHOWCASE] work.
Really looking forward to this one. The more generic, the better!
I am on PagePlus/VZW network so not concerned about CellSouth, but very concerned about bricking my phone. I have not been able to get 3G/data working on PP/VZW so
far...wondering if CS has restrictions built into rom blocking data connections with other carrier? Can a baseband be locked into a carrier?
Anyway, I know how to install/recover using odin, but having trouble finding original/stock [SHOWCASE] files including DJ20 modem/radio in the event I screw something up. Looked in the mesmerize sticked how to get back to stock ODIN and a million other places. Do these files exist in the wild?
I am a long-time lurker and thorough searcher, really surprised I can't find anything.
Any and all assistance totally appreciated. Thanks again!
Umm yeah we could never get our hands on the DJ20 stock files but did get EB11 (Froyo) thanks to Phidelt82. We only had it for a while though before CS pulled it. And since you have the showcase you should never flash anything from verizon or us cellular, I.e. mesmerize and fascinate.

Sorry I missed out on the EB 11, I googled around a bit too see if I could find a copy anywhere but so far no luck, but I am currently caffeine impaired
Really surprising. Hmmm... Can't recall ever hearing of a carrier blocking development on the boards. I did notice many showcase threads that google finds have been removed.
I am in NY far out of CS range. Got the showcase cheap from someone who told me it was a Mesmerize. So I don't mind it being a guinea pig & recklessly flashing.
Tried a couple of fascinate roms & they ran fine, but still no data. The primary gateway appears to be locked/reverts to CS settings. Others have flashed showcases to cricket with full data, so I know it can be done. Perplexing tho... my quest continues. LoL
Already LOVE the showcase! way more than my evo. Totally appreciate all the work developers & other users share with us here. Gonna flash this new one as soon as I have coffee
Nice to meet you all
So I tried to flash a Jelly Bean AOKP custom rom I found on youtube but it got stuck on boot loop, so without knowing the consequences, I flashed the original GT-I9100 PIT on my phone via ODIN, then it said:

Hi Kevin95
J-Tagging is a procedure, not a person or company. You should be able to find a service center in Toronto for this.

There is no md5 sum present, so yeah.... Just a signed zip!
The assert is at the top and based off what was in the ATT variant.
If you remove that assert in the updater script, should be fine.
However, those values match what I saw in the build.prop......hmmmmm. I'll have it in the morning for yah!

I hope someone kangs an AOSP rom for some 4.2.1 love...(prob to high of a hope) but I'm glad to see this atleast...so atleast i'll have some wiggle room..but saw a poster was having issues..and don't want to get stuck in his shoes..so i'll wait to flash...and or do anything..seen as there is no odin restore stuff or lots of roms that are known to work and stable and the like.....
Thanks for starting the game tho!!!!
Hellation,
That updater script is 100% correct. Had a user PM me.
Your Backup must have failed and/or you flashed something you shouldn't have.
You need to remove the "assert" line in the top of the updater script (unzip /META-INF/com/google/updater-script. Your issue could be that it cannot read itself right now.
Re-zip the whole thing and try again.
You have no readable props right now, or the readable props are wrong...

I ended up reverting back to bare stock through odin, will give this another shot soon as I'm home again and can fully sit down. I'm sure it works and I feel might of been my tablet, all are different. Thank for all our time and I will report back once I manage to get back and tinker with my tablet once more.

Getting back to you, I sold my T-Mobile model and got a Wi-Fi only one. I was never able to get it to flash. Kept getting Status 7 each time I did.

thanks for letting me know, i am going to work on my own rom now. I want to port over cm10
So i bought this phone used, i assumed when i bought it that it was a galaxy s blaze 4g, thats the box it came in, now just today after having soft bricked it today i was looking into the warrenty on the phone and i come to find out that the fcc id number is for the wrong phone, so when i tryed to install cwm for the blaze though odin you can imagine what went wrong, i was on stock gingerbread, 2.3.6, now im not sure exactly how to unbrick it here, the threads seem old and google seems to keep taking me to the blaze threads

Pull the battery and verify the model number before you go much further.
