Calendar for a frequent timezone traveller? - General Questions and Answers

Hi all:
I've searched and searched, but can't find any soft suitable...
Here's the scenario:
I often travel between many timezones, many times a couple of times in one day, and also have meetings at the stops between flights, on their local time.
I would like to find a calendar app that will allow me to both enter and show an event that has a start in one timezone and end in another. All calendar apps I've tried let you either show your local, or the remote timezone. Now I'd like to look in the calendar, and see i.e. a flight starts at time X in timezone A, ends at time Y in timezone B, total time...
Surely something like this must exist, as I'm not the only high-volume traveller, but I can't find anything.
Can someone point me to some applicable soft?

It seems very strange to me that no one would be needing this functionality besides me. However so far I've identified no calendar app that can do this.
I've emailed the developers of Jorte, a calendar app that seems the slickest, but so far no response.

That sounds like a really great idea for an app that a dev needs to make. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread to see if you come up with one that works. But good luck!

+1
Sent from my Thunderbolt!

Today I've finally found a solution, the answer is: Pimlical Advanced Calendar.
You can set the event start in one timezone, the end in another, and it will show the event time in local time and the respective start and end times and timezones, as well as the duration: it's a godsend!

My friend hates his TP cuz of these issues and blames me 4 selling him on HTC.

My friend hates his Sprint Touch Pro and blames me 4 selling him on HTC.
If anyone can offer any help or fixes, I would greatly appreciate it.
I am going to e-mail him a link to this thread.
Thank you.
The following in quotes is the e-mail he sent me.
Here's the low down on my HTC Touch Prop Experience thus far and why I will
sell this turd on ebay...
Cant type first and last name into messaging "to" field (once you hit the
space bar for the last name it selects the first 'josh' in your phone book,
etc.)
Cant search by company name in the address list (I need to look up account
in my phone all the time by company name)
Some names do not appear in contact list search at all but I know they are
there and can get to them manually
Cant search first and last name in contact list (must type one or the other)
GPS won't automatically drive to calendar appointment when the address is in
the appointment or give the option to drive to the appointment
GPS won't give you the option to drive to an address in your address book
GPS freezes up and stops navigating when you turn off the screen (to save
the battery). Won't start again until you close the app and restart.
Several times the phone has frozen up and the touch screen would not
respond...cant get into messages, can't get into contact list.
Auto backup fails every night (third party app but the best one on the
market)
every day the phone freezes up in my contact list...multiple times every
single day. I have over 1700 contacts....I have reset my phone at least 5
times already today.
using three fully charged new batteries a day...I am on my third battery
today as of 5pm and yes I bought three freaking batteries
T9 text input randomly turns itself on and I have to manually turn it back
to ABC input
Facebook and twitter apps suck to the point of being unusable (Facebook app
is the brand new one from Microsoft's upcoming windows mobile 6.5 OS)

Put Juicy 8 on it and it's a whole new experience.

Wow, i hate lists, but here i'll try to help with some limited knowledge from a touch pro owner since october (my first real smart phone)
use arrow keys left/right to select next person in list when starting to type name
cant help you there, i look up by person's name. There may be alternative software out there for a different address book connected to the main one? SPB mobile shell might have something. Found it! you can do it by going to contacts - then in the menu view-by and select company
maybe those numbers are listed on your sim card and not on your phone book, in the options there should be an option to show both address books
shesh you're picky again, Name one example where you actually need to type both to find the person you want! (i can't think of one example)
Wow, you really think windows thought of everything didn't you? GPS can't do squat without GPS software
This is most likely due to a problem with your firmware - update your ROM and see what happens
Update your ROM - i suggest a nice EnergyROM 2.0 or 1.3 - it is pretty damn stable and bug free - most of your issues from here out sound like things that can be fixed by wiping your phone and installing a better rom than the junk tossed together by the service provider
Why does it fail? What is the backup software? PIMbackup is a pretty solid one, and why do you need to backup nightly? I sync my contacts and calendar with google sync. Thats the only vital data i don't want to loose that changes daily (except for tasks, still waiting for google sync to add tasks)
Again - update your rom! Imagine a car torn apart by a kid in his first year at auto school, and then trying to put it together in a month. That is what the hack jobs who work as rom chefs for service providers do to these phones when they add in their junk bloatware. (Also HTC provided an update with new features, most providers now have released revised versions with their bloatware added of course, but they still work better than the original firmware that comes on the phone)
Battery life depends on use. How often do you have it check for email? My battery lasted only half a day when i told it to check every 5 minutes. Then i realized i really don't care about checking email (and nobody important emails me that often) so i set it to 4 hours - battery life went up drastically. Also turning down brightness, and turning off wifi will save a LOT of battery life. I get a sold day and a half out of my phone now. (with pretty decent amount of use)
Can be another issue with the firmware you're running. There is an app called Advanced Config Editor, I think there is a setting to disable T9
Sigh, indeed, applications are still a work in progress, before the iPhone, there was very little competition for slick applications, but consumers will prevail in the end. For now - its all about keeping up to date with your favorite phone blogs to find out about the latest software available
In all honesty, the TP and other windows mobile phones are not for everyone. They work great if you know what you want to do with them but if you expect to just pick up a phone and go, buy a freeken iPhone and enjoy your watered down smart phone for braindead people. (Hey, i bought my mom one for christmas, she's all happy that she changed the ringtone for me.... despite the fact her past 5 phones could also do that in less than 5 buttons......)
HTC makes a wonderful selection of mobile devices, I have always been pleased with their products.

Know nothing about the Sprint GPS nav app (I assume that's what he's using?) but Garmin Mobile does this, and I suspect most other GPS nav apps do as well.
As far as crashes and battery usage go, the only fix is to flash a different ROM without all the provider bloatware. Sounds like most of his gripes are related to Sprint's implementation of the device, not about HTC or the device itself. In any case, he'll probably never be happy with it - tell him to get an iPhone where he can blithely ignore all the missing features and lack of flexibility.

Gtd app with custom recurrences?

I'm looking for a free gtd app that will let me easily specify custom recurrences. For instance, after trying several apps I can only specify recurrences for every day, every week, every month, etc. I found doit.im that let's me specify every 2 days or 3 days or whatever number I enter but the app seems a tad clunky. Maybe I just need to get used to it. Anybody know
of a good one that has a widget and allows for recurring tasks that I can schedule for every other day and every three days etc?
I have Astrid, maybe it allows for that and i'm just not figuring it out. Thanks for suggestions.

Ok, im a nincompoop. I figured out how to use Astrid to specify every other day tasks. Anybody know if there is a way to only show on the widget what is due today?
EDIT:: lmao! I spoke too soon again.I found the 'hide until' option in Astrid. Mods, feel free to close/delete this sorry excuse of a topic my sorry.

Specific calendar requirements

Hi all,
Lots of threads on calendars out there but none address what I'm after.
Very specifically, I want an app/widget that allows me to show the next 7 days of my calendar graphically (note, next seven days not current week like some do) on my homescreen. I want it to be large enough that I can easily read the events on each day without having to click anything. It must not have any creepy permissions like some calendars I've looked at.
It seems so simple to me but none of the calendar things I've looked at so far let me do this!
The aCalendar widget comes close but the writing within each day is too small to read and it does current week not next seven days (ie if you are at the end of the week it shows the six previous days which is not useful!). The default calendar widget is pretty slick but it only shows the agenda as text, I can't just look and instantly see that a certain event is x amount of days from now. I've tried lots of others too but either they can't do what I want or I just haven't figured out how.
Yep so let me know if there is anything you might think will suit me. I don't mind paying if its reeeally good.
Thanks in advance.

Tasker Clock In / Out Automation with Google Calendar integration.

Ok, so here is the long story.
Basically at where I work currently they use an antiquated "Quicken" based time clock system for all of the employees.
I work at two different locations for this company and sometimes travel between those locations in the same day.
I am currently using a template from the Task Wiki (named: Widget To Create Start And End Times For A Calendar Entry) as a base, but obviously I want this functionality to be more automatic than having to press a widget each and every time.
I would like to work out a Tasker system that auto adds a calender note every time I connect to each stores WiFi to denote a "Clock In" and "Clock Out" status.
Each store has a unique SSID, for the purposes of simplicity we'll call them "Store1" and "Store2".
In a given day, if I start the morning at "Store1" I want my Google Calender to reflect that I clocked in at "Store1" at X time, and at whatever time I leave, that as soon as I loose connection to the WiFi I effectively "Clock Out" from "Store1" at Y time.
On days when I travel between store, it should work the same except with both in and out entries for both stores.
Example:
10:01 Clock In @ Store1
11:45 Clock Out @ Store1
12:03 Clock In @ Store2
7:05 Clock Out @ Store2
So the end result is an accurate measure of not only what my total hours were for the day (10:01 to 7:05) but also how long I spent at each location and an obvious lapse in time denoting my travel time.
Now the problems I have with this so far in practice is that, when connected to the WiFi, sometimes it will denote multiple "Clock In"s and "Clock Out"s.
I only want either one to ever fire off ONCE in a given 24 hour period. The idea behind this is not to replace my works official time-clock (even though I would like too).
More of just a way for me to automatically keep tabs on my hours on my own, that way when and if another payroll issue occurs; I have records of my time as proof.
Can anyone guide me in the right direction? I've never used Tasker for much else aside from muting my phone at certain locations or times of the day; so this is very much so advanced for me; but something I desperately want to see realized.
I searched the Groups and XDA forums, I fiddled with many of the "Time Clock" type apps avaible form Google Play but none of them offer the simplistic automation that I have envisioned.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
