You can flash Bam Kernel via Odin. I'm using it. Download the latest fix version and flash it in pda. It has CWM & it will root the device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355675
Or use the CF-Root for DDLF2 from here. The procedure is same.

Read this post. If you follow it to the end you'll have CM9 (ICS alpha build)
Stop at end of ddlf2 root step and you should have a rooted ddlf2 build.
PLEASE NOTE, you'll lose all your data. Make sure you take a backup or everything that you'll regret losing later.
Make sure you backup all your contacts to your google account.

Only just 1 last question
can i also do these steps as I already have a ddlf2 firmware on my GT I9003....
1-Root phone and install cwm.
2-Do full nandroid backup.
3. Select the ROM zip from your SD Card and flash.
4. Go to Advanced -> Reboot Recovery.
5. After the Recovery restarts, Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
6. Mounts and Storage -> Format dbdata
7. Flash Google Apps.
8. Reboot
Are these steps also correct or I would be messed up..........
Once again thnx N u r a gr8 dev and helpful person.........:good:

2 things.
1st I'm not a dev. I just did a lot of reading here.
2nd I guess you can flash cfroot. But people had issues when they didn't do a clean install. That is why it is preferred.

Find out CF root for your phone from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331253 and root it per instructions on same thread.
Then go ahead and decide on what next ROM you want to install. GO to dev thread for that particular ROM and install by following ALL instructions on that thread. Search Q&A thread in general section for that particular ROM for any questions that you might have. Post question in that thread if you cannot find answers to your questions.

Unable to Root after upgrade to I9003JPKPM
Kies updated my firmware recently to I9003JPKPM and I lost my root access. Previously I was using amit bagaria's universal cf-root.
After the firmware was installed, i again tried to root the universal cf-root. Root was working. But I lost WIFI access. Wifi does not start anymore.
To fix this, I tried unrooting the phone from the menu after pressing Vol Up + Home + Power. It told phone was unrooted. But wifi was not working. I again went back to CWM menu to Root it back.
No matter what I do, now I am unable to get Root back. The menu shows I'm rooted.
But when I go and start a priviledged application, I get an error:
Sample error
Code:
CWM Manager needs SuperUser access to function! If you have SU installed, make sure CWM Manager is not blocked, then reboot and try again.
I tried flashing universal cf-root again but unable to get root access!

A noob question. Is repartitioning done using a latona pit file? I remember using one when I had switched from froyo to GB.

OK. I did a repartition using latona.pit file, then installed XXKPE, then installed XXLE4 on top of it. I used it for a day and also installed many apps. Now is it OK if i flash bam kernel on top of it? I had read somewhere that bam kernel should only be installed on a fresh stock ROM on its first reboot after flashing. Is it true? or do I have to repeat all the steps XXKPE -> XXLE4 -> bam kernel

Now that I'm rooted, I would like to change the bootanimation to a custom one. Can I follow this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161354 The instructions are for XXKPE. Will it work on my XXLE4 + bck custom kernel?

[CAUTION]To all users who are running ICS..

Caution:
When you are running ICS on you mobile do not downgrade directly to GB using ODIN, if you flash any GB ROM (Stock/Custom) using ODIN your mobile will be bricked.
Live example is myself i have bricked my mobile by do this.
TO avoid this first you restore previous backup using CWM and then flash what ever you want using ODIN.
Even Unbrick your Galaxy R. 2. Downgrade bootloader to v2.0 guide wont help you, I have followed it but no use I have successively flashed stock rom by using this method but still no luck ..
I've created this thread to help all our users who are running ICS, Sorry I've haven't see that one more thread is there for this if you think its duplicate please ask Justin to delete it..
Thanks! Have you managed to un-brick your machine?
Actually, flashing thru odin is Samsung things and it will increase the counter. So, almost every time, I will customize the ROM to flash thru normal CWM flash zip process. At least, I am just 'copying' files to /system/ and all operations are controlled by the updater-script

Yes Ardatdat. I do the same thing. For all the Stock ROMs which i flash via odin, i used to make CWM package. I used to do that so that always i dont have to depend on my PC. Not for the baseband, But atleast for the PDA and CSC part.

Thx for the info buddy. Like to know once thing. When u tried to downgrade to GB via odin, what was ur ICS system info. Is it rooted.? Deodexed? Rooted Kernel? Because I feel Kernel is the problem here. The Kernel that came with this ICS is not a safest one. Ardatdat can speak more about it.

i looked there for the right firmware but i'm not sure which firmware is correct.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787
We usually flash xxkpe for a fresh start. The repartioning does that.
Read up on the procedure for flashing xxkpe, as its one step more than the usual. Once your on xxkpe, flash a proper gingerbread fw of your choice (I suggest ddlf2, xxle4) or other value pack roms.
Download all fw files from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004647
Keep in mind that for older gb roms there are separate files for csc, PDA, phone. But for newer ones there's only one file, to be flashed as PDA.

Xxkpe. But its only because we use it as the base. Once your on xxkpe, you can go on to flash anything you like.
Make sure you read and understand the steps properly. Ask around if you dont understand. Better than bricking.

Nothing special, no need to select latona.pit file and repartition. Flash ddlf2 or xxle4 or other value pack (you'll find them in the stock roms thread) as PDA.
If you mess up in the future, this is what you need to do to get the phone running again (repartition --> xxkpe --> stable gb rom).

I would start reading some posts in the development forum, and other specific topics on the various steps you will need to take. But...
First you will need to install a custom recovery, like clockwork mod(cwm) or twrp.
Second, you will need to find a ROM specific to your device, making sure to check your model number and only installing a ROM if it is intended for your devices model.
Third, flash the rom .zip in the previously installed recovery.
That's really all you need to do, but you should read how to take those steps in the threads for them and your device.

When you flash a stock firmware either from that link or (recommended) sammobile.com, its called stock for a reason it turns the firmware, recovery and kernel back to....err.....stock
