Are you overclocking/undervolting? If yes, then stop.
Otherwise change your battery.
Do this, preferably with a clean/new ROM install.
When the phone dies, charge it for 1-2 minutes just enough for you to enter recovery and clear battery stats.
Once battery stats are cleared power off the phone and leave it off and let it charge while you sleep.
When you wake up, power on the phone and use it normally until it dies. Do not reboot the phone during this time.
When the phone has died again, leave it off to charge fully again, once this second charge is done you are now free to use your phone as normal.
Some people claim clearing battery stats does nothing, and may be true. But I have always done my charging this way and it may be why all my phones still have the stock battery with excellent battery life.
Its also best to do this at night when you are asleep to let it charge all the way.

I decided to try resetting the battery stats, charged the phone to 100%, then turned off the phone and plugged in the charger and now the green battery icon looks like it is about 90% full, but never goes to 100% (I've left it plugged in for 3 hours since). Any ideas?
Update: Full discharge and recharge seems to have done the trick!
Let the battery drain to zero. Plug in for a min then unplug to see where its at. If its at 1% charge it back to full and reset stats again...if it says something weird like 12% or more or less let it drain and die again until its at 1% then recharge and reset stats. Then let die completely before recharging

Will try and and report back - thanks for the suggestion!
I've found that my phone won't charge all the way unless I'm using the wall charger or car charger that I got with the phone I had tried using a charger from one of my old phone's and it actually made the phone go into sync mode and still didn't charge it all the way sometimes even when it's plugged into the computer it wont charge all the way

Also try using the phone heavily and discharge it
ok, so I'm running faux's rom and I have run CM 7. I have tested this a few times and each rom and it seems to help improve battery life.
Since the drivers are screwy I noticed when I charged my phone it would say 100% but I would unplug it and it would drop down to 97% right away. I think the lower number is the accurate one, So the battery really isnt getting fully charged because the phone thinks it is so of course it will die sooner
So what I did was let it charge to 100% then unplugged it, it went down right away. I plugged it back in and it started charging again, in a few minutes it showed 100%, I unplugged and it showed 97%, so I kept repeating this then eventually I unplugged and it was 98%, then eventually 99%. After doing this my battery lasted a lot longer. I usually have keep an extra battery on me and usually have to switch but for the first time my g2x lasted the whole day! So give this a shot.. it could help if you suffer from really bad battery life.
Off topic.
Im From Southern California...be visiting New York on Monday. Good stuff...small world some times.
could unplug, then turn off, plug in and charge while off for a while, the unplug and turn on, then plug back in and let charge. then wipe batt stats and unplug. works for me.
I have one extra battery. I never charged my phone through the charger it came with. I always charge my battery with the portable charger. No doubt the portable charger takes 6-8 hours to fully charge my battery, but on the upside my battery lasts for more than a day.

I noticed a similar thing recently. I generally charge my phone overnight while I'm sleeping and use it for an alarm clock. One morning I decided to reboot my phone (my experience is that it needs a reboot every couple of days or various things stop working) before I got up, so I powered it down, still plugged into the charger. I then tried to power it on, but instead of the boot screen I got the device-off charging animation, indicating that it wasn't fully charged, even though it had said 100% before I powered it off. After letting it sit and charge while off for another hour or so, I booted it, and I think I got exceptionally long battery life that day (although my days are all so different it's hard to compare one to another).
I think bump charging does help, but its not good for your battery in the long run

well hopefully they fix the driver issues so we wont have to do it too much longer One can hope right? hahaha
so the last couple of days ive noticed that when i charge my battery and check the history. it seems to go from 76% to 100% right after it passes 76% ive calibrated the battery and used the "Battery monitor widget pro" to set the values. is there anything else i can do?
ive also ordered extra batteries and they seem to do the same around 80% and go up to 100% in a matter of seconds
thanks
Charge your phone to full while phone is on. Turn off fast boot and shut phone off leaving it plugged in. Let it continue to charge until the led turns green.
Once green go into recovery and wipe battery stats. It's in the advanced menu. This will reset any previous settings but its VERY important to make sure its been charged full, first while on and second while off, before doing this.

ive done that. its fully charged now but it went from 76 to 100 within a minute. i did the wipe stats last night but it took like 30 mins while playing a movie for it to go completely dead from 1% to off
Well i'd say let it drain and recharge for a few cycles and it should recalibrate itself. If you go through about five cycles of draining it to about 20 and then fully recharging without interruption and its still messed up, then it could be the Rom giving you trouble. Re install Rom with a full battery. If its still messed up after that then the battery is probably damaged.
Edit: try other roms too before deciding that it is definitely the battery. Sometime roms have minor bugs like this.

Also, any add on mods to the notification bar could be causing the bug.

I had my phone for 3 months. It did this issue before and I removed the battery, it started. Now, it doesn't start with or without the battery. I plug it and press the power for 10 seconds, nothing happens.
I had the phone running for like 3 days till the battery completely drained.
I plugged the phone and I feel it's warm on the camera area and still doesn't start after charging for a while. Total black screen!
I am on CM7 and CWM recovery installed. Any ideas?

Since the battery drained completely it may take an hour or better on charge to get enough juice to restart.
The phone can't start without the battery? with just the charger power?

Ya it just needs to get some serious juice on it before it starts weird issue but mine does the same thing. Plug it in to charge with battery and leave it for about 10+ minutes and it should start up with the plug in.

It's been plugged in for a long time.. Nothing yet...
and when it's charging, it usually displays a battery charge animation...
but the screen is totally black
I've never attempted to turn it on without the battery, but with mine, when the battery has completely died, I can plug it in and turn it on within 15-30 seconds and use it (as long as it's still plugged in). USB charge, I have to wait a little longer, though.
The battery was ok I had no problems with it and I checked the battery status yesterday it was "4 from 100 points" and "Good" health.
The phone did that with me before but it started charging when I detached the battery and inserted it again. I think it was some sort of hanging up and the battery had to be detached even if the phone was off!
It workedddd! finally!
As I said... I had to detach the battery and the power completely and reinsert the battery... This is really weird :S
Maybe it was flooded.

Sounds like a bad battery. Taking li-ion down to fully discharged damages them. The batteries have protection circuitry but if you take it down to nothing and don't charge it right away you could have done permanent damage. If a li-ion is damaged in this way it will never take a charge again. Get a new battery and see if that fixes your problems.
My 727 (AT&T) is rooted stock rom. The battery indicator gets 'stuck' a lot of the time. It happens in both a widget and the default battery indicator in the status line.. They will both show 100% and I know full well that they CAN'T be at 100% after sitting around all afternoon off the charger. I restart the phone and immediately it drops to 42% ...
Anybody else seen an issue like this?
A lot all over. Do a search

what i suggest you do is calibrate the battery.
1 plug it in and charge it to 100%
2 turn off the phone and charge it until it says 100%
3 unplug and turn it on and leave it for 3min.
4 turn it off and plug it in and let it sit until it says 100% again
5 repeat step 3
6 unplug turn on the phone and use it until it hits 0% and turns off
7 plug in the phone and let it charge to 100%
now use as normal and after a few days your battery will read more accuratley and more importantly, will last longer. keep in mind your battery does lie to you but just use the phone and you'll start getting more out of it.
moving forward, charge whenever you can. Lithium ion batteries will last longer if they're charged often (like at 60%-40%).

Yeah, I even downloaded the utility that removes the battery life file, and creates a new one. I guess I need to try one of these procedures again.. I honestly think it is more to do with a bad application, no matter what the battery life meter should not 'hang', and if it does for more than a few minutes, then it should be able to recover by forcing a restart of the app... *sigh*...
This is a common issue with this phone. Look up "battery stuck at 100%" in Google and you'll find quite a few results. Supposedly it's an issue with certain chargers not giving out proper levels so it trips out some indicator chips in the battery and/or phone.

Just reboot your phone and use the stock charger and cable from now on.
I had this issue with the rooted kernel (can't remember which one) but after downloading "battery calibration" from the market and following the in-app instructions the problem was solved.

yeah battery calibration app on market worked for me as well
