tried to install it but its giving me permission errors i read somewhere you don't need to be root to install?
Yes you do, you have to have root to be able to replace system files.
Root is not yet possible on the Mytouch.
it is being worked on but for now you must stick to Googles keyboard
and or buy "better keyboard" from the market
Actually you dont have to have root I was able to install it on my Mytouch without any problems. Check out my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539818

go to settings - locale and then check the HTC keyboard, as an available keyboard, now you can long press in a message and select it as your input method
nvm. I'm a tool. lol
after trying the htc keyboard out i like how it looks but its so slow at times is it because its not rooted version?
but the word correction on the htc one to me is wayyy better
awesome, its gonna be a long day when my touch comes in the mail.

I'm not 100% sure this is it since I don't have my Nexus One yet so I need someone willing to test.
I found it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dFh9RKsN6w&feature=player_embedded
This is the same one that's pixelated on the Nexus One. Also, doesn't stretch the full screen in landscape mode.
It is still the pixelated version. That wouldn't even bother me that much if the correction bar on the top fit on the screen and wasn't horribly warped.
Damn sorry then. The one in the video looks good though.
do you need to be rooted for this? Because I tried it using an appinstaller. It shows up in the clicker, but when I create new messages, it reverts back to the stock google keyboard.
You have to go into the settings and enable it, then when you're in a message box click the box and hold, then select "input method". You can alternate between the 2.
haha ya i forgot to do the "hold" part in the message box. thanks!
pixelated...but at least i don't have to switch back n forth for numbers and punctuations. can't wait for the non-pixelated version w/ microphone key =)

We'll need a high-res 2.1 SenseUI device to come out - probably need to wait for a Bravo leak.
Yep, works fine on N1 running MCR1.1 but pixelated. Will have to live with that for a while as it still beats the hell out of the standard Android keyboard...
Is the file linked from youtube the same as this file?

So I emailed HTC to find out if they will update the htc_ime.apk so that it will work on the nexus or look properly I should say. I am currently waiting for a response... let you guys know when I get a reply. I will post it.

Ha good luck with that. They won't update it until they release a phone with the Hi-Res Sense UI.
Most likely we'll have to wait until a bravo dump is leaked or another sense UI device w/ a hi res screen's dump is leaked.
I'm running HTC_IME on the N1.... its great to have it back, only complaint is the lack of the dedicated 'microphone' key thats in the default keyboard... so AFAIK once you install HTC_IME you can NOT dictate text messages and the like
Does anyone know how to edit the dictionary for htc ime?
I don't know about editing words but you can erase it by going into your settings > applications > keyboard > clear data.
I installed this and it works great but my only issue-request would be to add more languages. The option is there, when you go to settings from inside the keyboard, but unfortunately, only english is available.
In the past, people have made language packs...could someone do on for this? pleeeeeeeease?
Thanks,
Lou
I used to change com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml file to enable dual language on my htc ime. I was wondering if this can be changed in the apk before installing. I dont want to root my nexus.
Thanks
Anyone have any idea what that task killer widget is he uses in the video? Basically its sitting on the homescreen and kills the tasks with one click, no need to open an app...

Its "taskiller", find it in the market.
ah ha... all along I was looking for "task killer" thanks!
Hey guys finally someone has gotten smart enough to make the first multi touch keyboard. It's called Smart Keyboard in the market and its free. It's still in beta and is very buggy and ugly. They keyboard is going in the right direction, maybe someone can build on it and perfect it? Thanks.

You can see the screenshots in the market. And it doesn't look THAT bad. Basically a white version of the stock keyboard.
Multi-touch seems to help my typing a lot. Even without the auto-correction (which is supposedly going to be added in the Pro version later on), I can type almost perfectly, compared to the many mistakes I make with the stock keyboard.

I agree its definitely a step better than the stock keyboard. One problem is that it doesn't show the letter when you hit it, it's just blank. Cant wait for a pro version or for someone to make a more improved app.
very nice keyboard indeed. the vibrate option doesnt work on my n1. its also missing the voice input but istill like it because it implements multitouch correctly unlike the stupid stock kboard
So I just downloaded app and selected it from language & keyboard settings but I still end up with the stock KB. Any ideas on how to switch it?

Hold down on a text box and it should say "Input method". Click that and should display the keyboards you have installed/enabled.

Alright fixed the problem thx!
Still needs quite a bit of work. All in all, it sort of reminded me..why exactly do we need a multi-touch keyboard now? Sure ive used the iphone keyboard....but it doesnt make a world of difference if the OS isnt built around the function.
fantastic find. using it to write this response and this is an amazing fix for me. not sure if it is the multitouch or not, but either way i like it
pretty good missing some features but i feel a bit more accurate with it.
Not bad! This has a lot of potential...
ill run it again once the bugs/fixes are worked out

vibrate works fine - just very faint.. it's a light pulse rather than a strong/long vibrate.

You can tell its multi touch if say you hold down the A key and then press the J key it will type the A then the J right after it.
Wish they could add holding Q for number 1 etc like the HTC one!
Only thing I really want.

Lot of raw potential
anysoftkeyboard is pretty good too. much better then stock and lots of options. also was recently updated.
No auto-correction?
Is there anyone else that hates the loud typewriter sound on the inspire keyboard?
I am rooted and just flashed MikRunn 1.01, but I had the same sound on CM7 and ARHD.
Is there any way to change the keyboard sound? I love the pop sounds from Samsung and WP7 or pretty much any other sound other than the annoying typewriter sound.
Install go keyboard free from market change to any sound you want up to you

Yeah.. tried GO Keyboard. It sucks.
Appreciate the comment though!
Ive also tried ThumbKeyboard as it allows you to change sound effects.
I mainly just want to know if there's a way to change the default sound without having to use a third party keyboard.

Hi Everyone,
One of the reasons I love CM10 is that you can skip tracks without tunring on the screen with the volume rocker. I love CM10, but I thought it would be great to be able to have this in stock.
So I was searching and trying to do it myself, and found a great tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728236
BUT I have a lot of problems deodexing the files. So I wanted to ask if there is any experienced developer that could be kind enough to help us modify the android.policy.jar and just post it here so we could replace our stock one and finally have this great mod on our stock devices.
Saludos,
Gustavo
UPDATE: I managed to deodex the files using apktools. Will try to manage a way to get the hack working

Ok,
I´ve given it a try, sort of understood how to make things. But then when I try to get the /system/framework/android.policy.jar from my stock ROM and then I deodex it, I find out that its empty!! I already tried putting CM10 and extracting it, to see if I did something wrong. But no, when I get the android.policy.jar from CM10, I see it has a lot of stuff.
How can we actually mod the stock ROM? Am I doing it wrong?
If any of the more experienced DEVs would like to help, it would be great. Otherwise, I'll keep looking for info on this and when/if I find out something, I'll tell you guys.
For anyone willing to do this, I found some usefull posts with "examples" here:

Just wanted to bump this I have been looking into this. I really want this feature but I don't think I have the know how to get this working myself.
How about using an app like player pro or alternate music players have this as an option built in...

Do you use any of those with stock and does it work? I have tried several apps that people say in forums that "work with longpress" but most of them work with a headphone button longpress.
What we would want with this mod is have the volume rocker of the phone sort of work as the headphone button, allowing it to longpress to skip tracks.
Yes that feature works in stock rooms using the alternative music apps... It is built into their setting check either player pro or power amp both support it... But it will only work with those music players

I have used poweramp basically since it came out, and ATM such a feature is not available. As I said, they work with headset buttons, not with the phone's volume rocker. I really do wish you could show me I am wrong.
What we would want with this mod is have the PHONE VOLUME ROCKER longpress to skip tracks. In other words, have the volume rocker work as the headset buttons.

Check the control settings for premium version of player pro.. As you see the option is there... I just have it grayed it out cuz I don't use it... It's on the lock screen part of it's settings
I just bought it and after 3 minutes I decided to get a refund.
First of all, what it does is that when you have its lockscreen activated, and the phone's screen is on the player's lockscreen replacement you can switch songs with the volume rocker, which is not really quite what i want. I want to be able to do it while the phone's screen is off (like in CM10). unfortunately CM10 does not have audio over BT which kills it off for me.
Besides I feel like Poweramp (which I have bought a long time ago) is an overall better looking player.
I got an idea, someone could test? See above!
1- Deodex your rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179009
2- See this, i found on razr I forum, but i think it will work.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267643 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330286&highlight=skip+track
3- Test
EDIT:
HEY, FOUND AN EASY WAY LOOK AT THIS AWESOME APP LOL:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.silentlexx.volbtntrackctrl&hl=pt_BR
THIS WORKS FINE ON MY ROOTED JB 4.1.2 AND STOCK GOOGLE MUSIC PLAYER LOL AMAZING!!!!! NOW I CAN BACK HOME TODAY HAPPY!!!!!
The only con is for memory... 20mb that goes away... but this serves as a workaround... very nice!
