[Q] Can I update via OTA if I have installed CWM? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have p5110, and I rooted my tablet, but after unrooted my tablet using this instructions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747215
when I will receive an update via OTA, can I accept that, or my device may brick? Another question, if I use triangle remover with root, and then unrooted, can also I update via OTA?
In other words, how can return completely to stock state, including flashing counter?

[Q] Cannot Update to New OTA VRALHE

Ok, I am running a stock rom rooted with no frozen apps. When the OTA tries to install it fails and when I try to use Kies the message " Your device does not support the update of Software via Kies" or something to that effect. I have never unlocked the bootloader, flash roms, or installed custom recovery on the device. Could I possible use OTA rootkeeper to unroot then check to see if the OTA will download and install? If that does work would I be able to restore the root? I don't guess I really need the new OTA but I want to be able to get JB when it comes out without any issues. Just as an added not it is currently running VRALG7...

Update OTA after root

Hi , i have my one s rooted but i have recived one update message of one update.
For this my question is , How to update after root?
I´m trying install but every time i can do it , the phone goes to teamwin recovery.
Help me.
I can tell you my experience with TMO US 2.35.531.12 minor update. First, I needed to flash stock recovery. It didn't work with a custom recovery (mine was TWRP). Then I needed to revert HBOOT state back to "relocked." Then for this particular update I was required to unroot.
Not sure if these apply to you but apparently these are pretty common processes you may need to go through for an OTA update for HTC devices, even with stock firmware. For the 2.35.531.10 update I didn't have to unroot.
Must have to relock. Im rooted. Stock recovey. Ota wont complete. Unrooted, still wont complete.

[Q] Trying to install 4.3 OTA

My phone is rooted, and has TWRP custom recovery installed.
The phone automatically downloaded the OTA, and tried to install it. With TWRP, the update failed and my phone is working fine now.
I don't need the rooting anymore (was for teetering, but with new data plan it's now included). So I'm okay with losing the root and all.
Using SuperSU I deselected the rooting, and after reboot RootCheck tells me my phone is not rooted. I still have TWRP installed.
Now, I'm stock MF1/ 4.1.2. How do I install the 4.3 update and remove the TWRP recovery? I found in another thread the 4.3 Tar file. Do I simply use Odin on my PC and flash it on my phone? What about TWRP?

Are you sure you want the 4.3, this latest rom will lock your bootloader permanently, meaning you will NOT able to install CWM,TWRP, custom rom/kernel or downgrade the OS to the early version. The only thing you can do once updated is root. If you still decided to upgrade, just Odin the full rom MF1 here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196 then after bootup your OS should auto update to the latest (OTA).

I had the same question myself, and have been proverbially "running around in circles" today (instead of working). Anybody have success flashing said Odin file and then upgrading via the OTA?
Ha! I came from a mytouch3g years ago, flashing incessantly. I got this phone so i could stop. Then rooted to take the ads away, and got a bit more than I bargained for... now I just want back on OTA stock.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Cheers

if you download this full firmware http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196 unzip the file then use Odin to flash, this will bring you back to pure stock rom with stock recovery (no more twrp/cwm). After this you will be prompt for OTA and just take the upgrade. Once done you should be on the latest factory 4.3 with locked bootloader.
I ended up downloading the 4.3 files from another post here, and flashing it with Odin. Worked fine.
Of course, without a root, can't recover my apps from Titanium but oh well.

Why don't you just root with saferoot found here?http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
I wish I would have found this thread before starting my own... woops. Anyway I would like to install 4.3 and I too rooted with twrp. I don't care anymore if I am rooted or not. I stopped flashing roms and such a while back and will be upgrading this next year to the s5 most likely.
Is there a way to install 4.3 w/out removing root? If not, since I never used odin, and used twrp what steps do/should I take to get back to where I can install 4.3?
Thank you.

Since your life is too busy and you don't want to mess with your phone anymore, your best bet is go back to stock 4.3 which is very good by the way, very stable, smooth and bug free. After so many complaints from my wife I rolled it back to stock 4.3 and she's so happy now.
1. Flash stock MF1 here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196 , just unzip the flash with Odin
2. Your phone should take the 4.3 OTA update and you're home free.

[Q] Trouble updating to 4.4 (Rooted / CWM)

Hi xda,
Can anybody help me in updating my shield to the latest update 72? I have a rooted NVIDIA Shield on (I believe) update 68, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. I have clockworkmod recovery installed as the bootloader. Upon downloading the update and hitting restart, it brings up CWM and asks if I want to flash the update zip it downloaded, click yes, says root may have been lost - fix? click yes/no, doesn't matter I've tried both and then it boots right back up and says the system update is still available. SO it's obviously not installing correctly.
Can anybody help me out? Is it possible to install the OTA update with CWM, or do I have to restore the default android bootloader? And if so, do I also have to unroot? Factory reset? What would be the easiest way of updating?
Thanks in advance, I'm loving my Shield!
You will need to revert to the stock recovery before you perform the update, as CWM cannot do it for some reason.
If you are not using CWM features outside of rooting, you might prefer this rooting method which does not require installing it so you can just do OTA upgrades without worrying:

Failed OTA with a twist...
I also tried the OTA with a rooted/CWM Shield and failed. However, I found this thread and reverted to stock recovery as instructed. But now, it says there are no updates available, and still reports I'm running 4.3. So how do I get it to update?

I actually had the same problem as you after reverting back to stock recovery. The only solution I could find was to 1) Backup everything on my Shield and 2) Factory reset. After factory resetting, the OTA update was detected, and installed flawlessly. I'm now on 4.4 Kit Kat, stock recovery, and am in the process of restoring all my apps and then re-rooting.

Just an update:
After going back to stock recovery, factory resetting for the OTA update to detect, installing it, restoring all my apps, and re-rooting using the method above, everything is running great. Future OTA updates with ease as well as being able to have root access!

[Q] Can I safely use a manual upgrade via cyanogen stock recovery?

Since one of my device didn't get its OTA yet can I safely use a manual install via cyanogen stock recovery? Does this process safely as OTA? I hear about some problems with the manual upgrade.
