How many went from Gnex to Siii - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey all. Keeping one of my nexii but was thinking about getting an siii? How do u like the improvements or what do you find worse than the nexus now that the BL is unlocked.
Thanks.

Screen is also way better... My gnex had a yellowish tinge to it that I eventually got used to, but i pulled it out today to play with it and it was hugely noticeable now that I've been staring at this beauty for a while.
Also, it took me a little while to get used to the size and shape, maybe a week or 2, but now I prefer it...
Physical home key is a different story, but that can be fixed with mods and roms
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Well for the yellowish tint I use trinity kernels to fix the gnex and as for screen size I've had a note so if I can handle that I think I can handle anything under that
Glad to hear the radios are better. My gnex has never had a problem but my gf's gnex .....well let's just say we had to go through a few to get one that actually held a signal. Glad to hear battery life is better. Even with the 2100 mah extended on the gnex my batt life is still worse than anything I had before.

I came from gnex. The sgs3 is better then the gnex in every way. Screen is brighter an more natural colors. Signal, always have some bars. Battery life destorys the gnex IMO.
Only thing I miss from my gnex is the worry free feeling when flashing ROMs. There wasn't much to screw up on the nexus as opposed to the sgs3.

I hear ya about worry free. Had my fair share of locked down moto devices and worries of hard bricks. Decisions decisions....

I'm rooted but still stock an this phone is perfect. One reason I'm hesitant to flash a custom rom is because all the stories I hear. Two, this phone is absolutely perfect Imo stock. Everything works perfect and I have no complaints. For this reason, I'm not sure I want to start flashing roms. I was addicted to flashing on my nexus lol. I always did it looking for faster performance an better battery life. Well I have that stock on this phone finally an hate to screw with it. It just works.

I came from a GalNex also, GS3 blows it out of the water. Everything about the phone screems "advanced". True its not as easy to flash custom roms but thats not what you buy a GS3 for-its not a developer device

Came from a GNEX as well, actually still have it in case I brick my S3
I will say I missed the GNEX initially but given the unlocked bootloader, it's hard to go back to the GNEX
Now I never had signal problems and I can't say I'm an advanced enough user to distinguish between the 2 screens, but I can say with absolute clarity the camera and battery life are significantly improved. Better (and probably more efficient) processor and 2GB of RAM to boot don't hurt either

This is my exact experience as well. Still own the GNex which I'd Jellybeaned. I was missing the JB on the S3 but not anymore.

The s3 is not difficult to flash roms... casual allows us to root, unlock, cwm recovery all from one program, then you flash rom of choice. It dont get no easier.

I came from the Gnex as well. I have to say, this phone is awesome. The battery life alone is worth the switch. I had the extended battery on my Gnex, I would get around and 5/6 hours of use. With the GS3 I get a full 10 sometimes 12 if I am on light use. And the screen is amazing, the Gnex screen was nice, but this is almost as good as the rentia displays. I highly recommend this phone.
Rocking T2 on the S3 (V)

i came from the gnex as well i kept it and put JB bugless beast on there.... its lets me know what i can look forward to when the s3 gets 4.1

Came from a gnex and iPhone 4s....

Well I'm keeping my gnex but going to either trade or sell the gf's gnex for an siii. You guys have me convinced and we were at the vzw store across the street today and I finally got to play with one.
To me the screen does seem a tiny bit nicer. Its so light compared to the gnex. Also seems much larger, but as I mentioned I have had a GNote so the size does not concern me.
Now I just need to find a good price on one or someone wanting to go back to a gnex.

Atrix or inspire?

Please answer if you have had both so I can get good advice. The inspire battery isnt a big deal because I can buy another one. And as far as the atrix,I'm kind of a social person so motyrblur won't be a bad thing to me. Please kick me in the rite way loll. I've been pulling my hair out trying to decide

Best Buy carries the Atrix for $99.99 on contract, so if you're for hardware or raw performance I'd go the Atrix path. I personally don't like the Inspire, so I guess that discounts my opinion, but I'd get an Atrix, root it, and maybe flash a custom ROM on it if you don't like MotoBlur or any of options that ADW or Launcher Pro have to offer.
I have the atrix and to be honest with you ... I hate it. Just try and wait it out for for a better phone to be released.
I'd personally say Atrix. It is quite sluggish at times but im sure it can be solved with a software update. the reason is that you will be future proofed and also 1080p recording is in the works.
Thanks guys. Things is I can't wait for a better phone because I have to make my decision Tuesday. Please, more opinions

I have an Atrix, and I love it. Those that say the phone is sluggish don't know what they're talking about or have a ton of rouge apps running in the background. Just use an alternate launcher and you shouldnt have any complaints.
I would only recommend you go for the inspire if you consider camera quality a top priority or care about the locked bootloader on the atrix (which has almost been worked around anyway).

I have THE Inspire and am VERY happy with it. I was between the two myself and the deciding factors for me were the larger screen, no motoblur, and the awesome development community. If you are into modding your phone, the Inspire has it hands down. My Inspire is running @ 1.4ghz and is noticeably faster than the Atrix's that two of my coworkers have. If you aren't going to root it, or just want to retheme it, than IMO it's just a choice between features.
I really need fast performance, style and sturdyness. I love the 4.3 inch but 4 isn't that bad. Its all I've had so far lol. I wish I could have both to test out lol

I have the inspire and love this phone. Its my second android phone after being with the iphone for the past few years.O and Its free at best buy this week with a new two year or upgrade with 2 yr.
Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm gonna go with the atrix for 2 reasons. First is gorilla glass. I'm known for keeping a lighter or keys in the same pocket as my phone and I've scratched many screens. Also I hate screen protectors. Second is actually 2 reasons in one. Sound quality and the fact that the only thing that drags me towards htc and sense is the evo. I actually have the evo,and its one sexy beast. But I feel like the inspire isn't even up to the evos standards when it comes to the epicness of the phone. The evo set a high standard and still after over a year holds its ground against any other phone on the market. People are still paying 200 dollars for it with a new contract, but the inspire just don't seem to get that much hype. I really like htc's builds and how sturdy there devices are,but I'm no stranger to the plastic feel. I've owned nothing but samsungs ( ) so the atrix wouldn't be a problem on that end. The only thing(s) that is still giving me doubt is the fact that I really wanted to upgrade to a 4.3 inch screen, and that with the atrix it looks as if everything is really tiny, even the keyboard. Please,if anyone has had both, tell me why you decided to go with what phone.

Just updating here for people who may be stuck in the position I was but I went with the inspire, and folks until you hold it in your hands, you wouldn't know its awsomeness. I stated it wasn't as good as the EVO,but I have both and this thing blows the EVO away. And as far as battery life,im a heavy user and I make it through the day off a charge. That's with very heavy usage. I did tweak a few things but nothing I even noticed. Brightness down to 47% and turned off HTC mail sync and news sync. Saves a lot. Great phone here, bada ba ba,I'm loving it

G2x Vs Nexus S (GSM Version)

I am planning on getting either phone.
Which phone do you think is better and WHY?
Nexus s. Pure Google experience. Get updates much faster, such as Ice Cream Sandwich. G2x seems very problematic from what I have heard. The screen on nexus is better, the only thing going for the g2x is the processor and slightly faster data speeds.

G2x is galaxy S 2 rite?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
I've had the G2x i traded to the Nexus S
They're about equally matched
The G2x doesnt have reboot issues anymore (after update)
at first, when dual-core was bleeding edge, it had some problems
The screen is slightly curved on the edges
1080p video
Dual-core tegra 2 (my Nexus S outscored the tegra 2 in Quadrant Video subsection)
Screen is average
Less plasticy then the Nex
Speaker is not loud at all
LG doesnt give the best tech support
The Nexus S will get updates faster
No Micro SD (16GB built in at high speed)
NFC (Google Wallet+MasterCard/PayPass)
No 720p video
Screen is amazing, pentile may look funny the first 2 days, but i cant even tell the difference anymore..
Curved glass feels nice on your fingers
Minor WiFi reception problems
It all depends on what you want. I traded a used G2x for a new in-box Nexus S. I just love the AMOLED screen, you cant tell where the screen ends, that's how good the contrast ratio is

No, its an LG Optimus G2x.
The Galaxy S 2 is a GS2.
But thanks guys .. still wondering. Its hard when you want a phone thats going to last you a bit.
Heres how I see it:
nexus s: Better battery, better screen, nicer design.
g2x: Better performance, more powerful phone, better build quality.
So here i am trying to get convinced lol.
Wow i have had both phones & j was happy with my g2x after i learned how to root n upgrade to g.b. but the nexus is kind of faster. I think either phone is good but there's more dev & mods on the g2x.
This is because the nexus s everything works out the box.
Plus you know were gonna be 1 if the 1st to get ics.

Come back in six months when your G2x still does not have ICS. Why not wait for the nexus prime?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
i used tge G2x and currently now im on Nexus S. These are the reasons i didnt like G2x:
-Battery Life is not as good as Nexus S.
-The LCD is actually really nice and bright, how ever the pixel density and image quality are no where near as good as Nexus S.
-To be really picky, the phone is awkward shaped and proportioned, its too tall for its screen size
+every other reason people have mentioned, HOWEVER i didnt have a single known issue problem with mine
hope this helps

Dude, I did the same thing –bought a G2x and a Nexus S on Craigslist and have been playing with them for about week now. G2X, rooted and ROMed, is fast, stable and a nice looking machine. On the right ROM, the battery can last all day, evening with streaming music, calls and texts, and still be half full. The camera is fargging great, too. There are two complaints I have. One is that the G2x feels a little awkward in my hand, especially compared with the curved Nexus S, which fits perfectly. The G2x is just a millimeter or two too wide for a comfortable grip for me. The other is the ICS situation. I’m sure the G2x devs will get ICS onto the phone via Cyanogen or whatever, but because LG won’t be open with certain drivers it’s uncertain whether ICS will be able to take full advantage of the phone. Oh yeah, and the comment about the sound issue is accurate, too. Although sound clarity is great, the speaker is quiet – if you’re in a crowd or noisy room, it can be a little difficult to hear who you’re talking to.
Basically, you can’t go wrong with either phone. I’ll probably hang on to both until it becomes more clear how the ICS situation plays out and then sell one of them.
Honestly, I dont even care about ICS lol .. I just want an all around better phone.

See that is why ics is so important. The UI will be hardware accelerated giving you the smoothest experience possible. Hardware acceleration on a single core will blow away a software accelerated dual core.

[Verizon] May return Nexus for GS3. Questions for those that own one.

I love the nexus, the prospect of getting 4.1 is exciting...I want that project butter.
Questions about the gs3 include: does the back light bleed through on the menu, back buttons, charging indicator light on the white version, like it did on my white galaxy s 2? My hands are average size, the gs2 was a bit of stretch to the top left corner with my right thumb. How does it feel to you? 4.8 seems like a large screen size, hence my previous question...does it seem overly big to you, in your pocket or in your hand? I appreciate any input about the real world use of the GS3, white or blue, even if it's not in direct response to my questions. Thanks!

Not to ignore your questions, but if you want root etc, you may want to wait until they figure out how to get passed the locked bootloaders.
In regards to your questions, the screen is huge, but designed wonderfully to fit in your hand (curves etc). As far as light leaks go, I haven't seen any on mine yet, but I haven't exactly checked for those.

I love my GS3 more than any other phone i've ever owned but the nexus does run a quad core cpu with 2gb of ram where the GS3 is dual core cpu with 2gb ram. Just watch some comparison videos and see which one you like better.

How is the One X? From a SGS3 User

Hello One X users ,
Just wonderin what I might've missed out when I decided to get the SGS3. One X seemed pretty tempting at the time.
So how's development, the community and the phone itself?
The community is certainly more close than other forums like the GS3 and One S, One X Intl. etc.
Development is good unless you are on the latest AT&T 2.20 software, which a previous exploit used to root has been patched, so if you are on 2.20 you can't root yet.
Phone itself is awesome, awesome camera, stock software etc. IMO, the GS3 touchwiz is foul, Sense 4.0 is much more elegant.

Development is solid. It's a good community and the amount of updates and roms isn't overwhelming, yet you can find decent improvements every week.
In terms of the phone, the One X takes the cake with it's screen alone. The Super LCD is superior to the SGS3's pentile AMOLED. It actually rivals iPhone's retina display, despite the larger size.
I think what made me decide between the two was when I tried out Flipboard on both phones. The One X was sharper, smoother and faster. The SGS3 seemed fast when using Touchwiz, but Flipboard was jittery and blurry.
But of course, everyone has different tastes. I do miss the removable battery and expandable memory, and extra RAM would be nice.
I'm still blown away by the screen mostly

The screen and the fact it's not made out of so cheap plastic like the Samsung. It is still plastic but being made out of a solid one piece makes it seem more solid and a little heavier too which is great.

Lol, not a troll thread. I'm serious. And yes, the screen probably is far superior to the AMOLED on the S3. I had an iPhone and the S3's screen can't even compare. I gotta go play with the One X soon lol.
Speaking of which, how's rooting for Canadian Carriers?
Coming from a few Samsung devices I miss having a screen that doesn't scratch spontaneously, the microSD slot, USB OTG, TouchWiz codec support, and task650 (super smooth, stable, complete AOKP).
The screen is nice, the camera is great. Sense 4 is growing on me. Still too much change for the sake of change for my taste, but light years ahead of sense 3.x, and something you have to get used to if you want the best battery life and camera.

A few folks I know had no end of antenna / signal issues with their Nexus devices. One had so many replaced due to hardware issues Verizon agreed to send him an S3. He likes the S3 much better, actually likes the touch wiz stuff and likes the camera, battery life MUCH better.
Have both use both but most of the time it's the s3. I battery life is awesome and AOSP roms are stable enough for everyday use. So the amazing camera and better battery life make it a no brainier. I just use the nexus when I'm filling frisky and want something different or new rom wise. Or when I go to the gym, since the audio playback on the nexus is a fair amount superior. Highs distort with the s3.

BTW: I have a Nexus and just received my SGS3 today. The first Nexus I received had mad antenna issues. Verizon replaced it and the second one initially had constant 4G drops but after the Jelly Bean update, it's solid. JB didn't help the 1st one at all. Battery does seem to drain pretty quickly on the Nexus compared to other devices (HTC Evo, Evo 3D, etc.). I'll try to remember to provide more feedback after a week or so of using the SGS3.

the sg3 is 10x better than any nexus ive owned.
I have owned both, the S3 is better in basically every way, except I really did like the onscreen navigation buttons on the Nexus. Battery life is far superior on the S3, and everything for me just works. Reception is better also. Some improvements are really small over the Nexus, and I don't mean to down the nexus in any manner, it would be my phone if I did not have the S3. It's just a step up in most all aspects. I use stock ROM with the Apex launcher, as I like the stock android look. I am not ready to jump to Jelly Bean until completely stable. I am unlocked, rooted, running clean ROM 2.5.
I prefered my Galaxy Nexus over this one so far. It fit better in hand, looked better, and ran smoother out of the box. I haven't had a chance to get an aosp build together for this phone yet, but stock to stock I would take the Galaxy Nexus again now that I've had some time with the S3.

A few folks I know had no end of antenna / signal issues with their Nexus devices. One had so many replaced due to hardware issues Verizon agreed to send him an S3. He likes the S3 much better, actually likes the touch wiz stuff and likes the camera, battery life MUCH better.

+1 for this, no distortion at all on either my Klipsch S4s or my Audio-Technica ATH M50s. Crystal clear, the highs are the best part!

Yeah my klipsche s5s rock. I also love the Samsung ones because of the options in the line and I still have my ibeats from my rezound. I get great sound with them all

It is really disturbing what happened with the last Nexus... that name seems like it may just dissolve into just some marketing crap and maybe get you the latest OS when you buy it and some compatibility later but ... little else. Even more so now that there will be numerous Nexus devices so numerous flagships that aren't actually flagship devices.
Google meanwhile doesn't seem to care.

I came from a gnex. I actually wish I had kept it when I bought my s3. I liked the on screen buttons. The s3 batt life is better tho. Its not much of an upgrade in my opinion. The gnex was rooted and running jellybean. It was smoother for some reason. Now that I've used the s3 for some time. I prefer the nexus.

I too currently have the GSM Nexus and the SGS3 and switch between them swapping the sim. SGS3 impresses other people the most, but I like the Gnex a bit more. Damn good looking phone that runs so smooth. The 3 has more bells and whistles, but I don't use them much. If I could only have one, I think I would miss the Gnex more than the 3.

With my Klipsch ones and the s3 I have a little bit of distortion (almost a harshness of the tone) in the high notes. It's not evident with every song but if the tones go high enough it almost rings out. With my Klipsch s4 it's far more noticeable although honestly I think my s4 might need to be warranty replaced. Regardless it isn't there with my nexus at all. I played with them both on a trip to Chicago and there was very noticeable difference between the phones.
