Root and freeze it with titanium backup.

Get rid of it via root was my favorite method. It truly is a horrid product. So little thought goes into the development of it that it effectively rendered many devices useless when BUA+ launched. Email issues were always the end result.
Definitely a nuisance item. Can't remember for sure but I'm thinking I was able to disable it in the apps menu before I was rooted. Ice Cream Sandwich for the win!

You can disable part of it without root but not all of it. In total there are 3 files to take out.

Thanks, the annoying notifications went away but now that I'm rooted I'll freeze off the rest with TB.

Anyone know how to take the at&t widgets off the widget list? Im on a Captivate rooted, (oclf) and have root explorer (if that matters).

You can use root explorer to delete the files associated with them or titanium backup will also remove system apks. Just be sure you know what the names are, some can be quite cryptic.
The files are in system/app directory but some apps also have other files associated with them.
Titanium backup has a feature where you can freeze them which essentially disables them and you can defrost thus reenabling should you find you made an error or change your mind.

I've tried TB, but for some reason, it slowed my phone down. I can try it again. When they are froze, will that eliminate them from the widget list?

Cool thanx man. And does anyone else have an issue freezing apps on captivate and TB keeps saying its freezing the app. I let my phone sit for like 10 mins trying to freeze one app!

No problems with freezing at all. Its a quick process and defrosting is just as quick

So as soon as you hit "freeze" it does its thing, then you can choose the next app? Maybe I should haver restarted my phone or something after untangling TB.

Hey there,
If you happen to be running Launcher Pro, you can hit Menu - Preferences - General Settings - Hidden Apps. Here you can check what you don't want to see in your apps list.
As far as Titanium Backup goes, I've never tried the Freeze option - I've just deleted what I didn't want (as long as I knew what it was!)
Hope this helps!
-Tara
Yeah that helped I been hiding that apps with LP, but I figured everything out using TB. I just went ahead and bought it. Thanx everyone for your input!

Short answer, yes.

A lot of things rely on then to function. Freezing isn't the same; I freeze Wifi Calling with no issues but when I try to uninstall it I get constant force closes every second until I do a battery pull, and that's on a bit of propriety software! I sincerely doubt letting Messaging or the like exist is hurting you enough to warrant risking potently annoying problems

I just hate having things installed I don't use, like rom manager and dev tools. Never use either.

Those apps are tied to android system dunno why it wont give fc on freeze since its almost the same as uninstalling them. But ya if you did delete those you would get tons of fc on startup and be forced to do a battery pull and reflash rom or backup.

Because you also need to delete the corresponding .so file in the lib folder.

If you are on a stock rom and delete system apps you can never install any future OTA updates. The updates check all system files first and make sure they are unchanged. If you freeze apps you just defrost them before installing an OTA. If you deleted them then no chance of OTA update, period. If you are not on a stock rom then it doesn't matter. You might wind up with a continuous force close issue that requires reflashing the rom.

I got rid of stock browser and tmobile stuff off of my phone and didn't receive FC's.
The downside ro this is if you remove the browser or anything when you do a hard reset it won't be there so you have to rely on a back up and be careful what you unistall.
I learned that the hard way when i first started with android. I unistalled swype since i use SwiftKey but did a hard reset to clear everything out and well i couldn't log in to my google account at the beginning because there was no virtual keyboard to use.

I've never seen the 'awake' bar look like this. Can anyone explain, is it the wifi? There is nothing out of the ordinary under running services and most of the info on the battery use screen was from this morning, while I was asleep.
Edit: pretty certain it was google backup transport. The 'back up my data' option was selected from a restore I had done. And I was on wifi during the suspicious activity. Made the necessary adjustments, testing now but so far it looks good.

i always disable backup transport when i install the new rom, you should try too. backup transport bounded with android system so you can't watch excatly itself alone because of this.

It's gone. Even went as far as deleting it. However, this morning I think I determined that its the wifi that was giving me the strange 'awake' bar.

My xda premium app keeps disappearing for some reason maybe its AT&T uninstalling it. Is anyone else having the same issue? I'm currently on non rooted stock rom.

Lol no att is not uninstalling it. By ut keeps disapearing what exactly do u mean you know there is more then 1 home screen right? Is it possible it on one of your other home screens? Did u open the app drawer and scroll through your apps and not see it as well?
I've had this happen myself the past few days ever since I started messing around with some roms. For me, I'd go to click on the app shortcut and it would say it doesn't exist. I'd have to go back into Market and reinstall. Very odd issue and its happened around 3 times.
The last time it happened was when I went back to stock like I am now. I am still rooted though.

Nope. Just had this issue pop up again after I did a nand restore from stock. I couldn't access the app, it no longer showed anywhere on the phone (/system/app, Applications, etc.) and yet the Market showed it was installed. I ended up having to install the free app and then uninstall that to then reinstall the premium one.
Not had an issue like this with any other app.

Backup up apps is no problem, but when it's time to restore, is there any way to have it auto-restore everything? The way I did it now was I started the batch restore, but had to press install-done over and over again for each app. Is there any easier way to auto-restore?

Did you purchase program? also if you did you need to download the purchase before running if you wiped data
I'm using the free version from the market. I'm guessing the auto-restore a feature of the paid version?

done. syncing w/ dropbox now
Can also consider app2zip
It creates a flash able zip file of all your apps, no data though
Do you run any risk restoring apps and data or are you better off restoring just the apps? I thought I read somewhere it can get buggy restoring the data

If it's just app data, usually no problem
The problem is restoring system data
I like to be safe so that's why I opt for app2zip

Buying Titanium was one of the best purchases I ever made for my devices. Well worth the price.
I love the "sync to dropbox". Didn't play around with it more to find out what else it does but that syncing makes it well worth the price.
