i have rooted and unlocked bootloader on my htc one x from at&t. i installed twrp. i downloaded and copied this rom to my phone and i am now trying to flash it. http://onexroot.com/one-xl-roms/cm10-jelly-bean-rom-for-att-one-xone-xl/
what was weird is that when its booting it says cyanogenmod 9 not ten.
it has been at least 10 minuets now and i need to know how to fix this. thankyou.
Well...
First off. If you know about XDA (Which is clear, since you're posting your problem here in the forum), why did you download a ROM from another site? One that doesn't look as 'legitimate' as XDA?
Second. CM10 doesn't have a boot animation yet (They may now, but the ROM you downloaded may not have been updated.) There was a CM10 ROM here on XDA that was using the CM9 animation due to lack of CM10 bootanimation.
It sounds to me like something went wrong when flashing. You need to reboot into twrp and reflash the ROM. I highly recommend downloading a ROM from XDA and going that route.

Completely agree here. That website looks pretty dodgy. Loaded with ads, it doesn't give much information on what you are even downloading/installing, and it doesn't seem to be posted by the actual developer, or give any credit to them (aside from the brief "Credits - XDA" link at the bottom of the article. Plus the download location is not the same as the original Developer's link, which would worry me (to say the least). I'd avoid downloading from this site, unless you have a legit reason to believe its reputable. But it just looks like one of those unscrupulous sites that posts contents from other sources, and rakes in ad revenue from clueless vendors.
Also, the version of the ROM linked is 3 weeks older than what the dev has posted here on XDA, with the newer version having fixed lots of stuff.
Stick to the Development subforums here. Much safer.
If you are looking for a safe ROM to install, I highly suggest you look through this XDA. There is a nearly flawless CM10 ROM here. I user it for a little while and loved it, but missed Sense too much and switched to CleanROM

I would strongly recommend doing a full wipe and factory reset before anything else. Who knows what you actually installed?
There are a LOT of sites out there offering what purports to be legitimate android software but is actually malware. Android's openness is a big plus but is also a risk. You have to be careful where you get apps and roms from. Just googling for them is going to get you in trouble very quickly.
Here's just one good example:

Lol I said the exact same thing to this guy in his other thread when he thought he bricked his phone. Some people never learn.
Steps to fix your problem
1) are u coming from a sense 4.0.4 ROM/stock? If so u have an incompatible hboot. This will cause boot loop like what u are seeing if this is the case you have to change to the older boot.img (if u updated to the newest at&t ota ur on 4.0.4 if ur coming from a ROM like clean ROM 4.5 ur on 4.0.4) this is most likely your problem to fix this you need to use fast boot to change the boot.IMG I don't know the exact procedure off the top of my head but ull find it with a quick search
2) if not and ur coming from sense 4.0.3 then you should reboot to twrp and wipe cache/dalvic cache this should fix it
3) if not wipe everything (except SD card) this means cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, and system then reflash.
Important definitely grab the newest build from here like what was mentioned earlier.

CM10 currently uses the CM9 boot animation. If you have AT&T 2.20 software, then you need to flash the boot.img using fastboot or CM10 (and all ROMs) will just stay in the boot animation for ever. Why didn't you download CM10 from XDA?

I just installed CWM via odin and all seemed well then I tried installing two different ICS based roms and both resulted in being stuck in a reboot loop. Could I have done something wrong? I have tried some fixes I saw posted around but nothing fixed the issue.
make sure u use darksidr before every flash. Also make sure u wipe dalvik cache. Did u install the uclca4 radio before u tried those roms?

1. What's darksidr? I backed it up so I can go back... I just want ICS
2. I did dalvik twice
3. No, one ICS rom said you needed to install radio but the other didn't and on the first step of installing the rom it looked like the radio may have been packaged with the rom. Where can I find the radio download?
Got the radio and no luck =/
flash superlite 5.1, it does all the work for u
I flashed superlite 5.0, where is 5.1?
but 5.0 did it all for me too and didn't work =/
loom for darkside wipe and flash it. Superlite 5.1 just got posted, try it. If that doesn't work, odin back stock, reflash cwm, and flash superlite again.

I did everything you mentioned. I installed odin, installed CWM, found a rom, did everything the developer instructed me to do, the developer was aware of the problem and none of his fixes worked for me so I was advised to ask elsewhere. Yeah, I don't flash roms every week like I used to with my HD2 and this is my first time really messing with radios so I asked for help. That's what the forums are for. After Odin, did u boot into the phone and let it cycle and then install Odin cwm? Give that a try. Also, most of the updated ROMs already have the proper radio, no need to flash. Let us know how it goes.
Run the: ics odin one click. Then odin cwm recovery. Then flash ics rom. Or just flash this rom and you'll be good to go

In cwm its also very important to format /system before you flash the new rom. You didn't really mention if you did that or not, so I'm just saying, just in case

I don't know what you've done to your phone. Perhaps if you make a very detailed list of what your setup is and what you've done so far we can help get you going. Be specific
Afternoon iLiberate,
What carrier are you with?
~PsyCl0ne
EDIT: Actually you know what come over to [RoM] ~[4.0.3.]~TEAM PERFECTION~REVAMPING
Now a couple of things before you start.
I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472954 for my recovery. I have had issues with a newer version but this one has helped me through a ton of issues I have had.
(Flash this with ODIN first)
I also recommend getting a wiping script DARKSIDE Super wipe. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487706
(Give props to the guy that put this script together. Keep the zip file some where easy to access, you will be moving it to your phones external SD card along with the rom zip and kernel files.)
When you go into the TeamPerfection thread it is gonna be kind of confusing looking at all the links. Basically you will see 3 Themes (AOSP ICE, KOBALT, Phone Candy) then a link to a rom that is already themed, and finally the stock rom which you will need if you want to flash any of the three themes I listed earlier. For now I would just go for the Sense release we can always change what it looks like later.
Also you will need a kernel.
If you're with AT&T I would suggest getting Mohan's kernel. If you're with a Canadian carrier I would suggest Romracer's kernel.
From here you can basically follow the guide in post number 3. It is really simple just need a little patience and it will go through. Also if you have any titanium backups from Gingerbread, please don't restore those apps when your phone comes back up. Just scribble down a list of apps you currently are running, make backups of SMS/MMS if you wish and then manually download them one by one from the market. Then you can make a Tibu of the apps so if you want to change what your phone looks like you can just restore all the apps in one go.
If you need any more help please feel free to PM me, I honestly don't mind or even post back here. Gonna be doing some work around the house but I'll check back periodically.

I am creating this post as a tip and warning to everyone with an at&t htc one x (mostly noobs for help). If you have rom manager on your phone do not use it to flash the new recovery listed for the htc one x (gsm). I've been messing with android since 2009, but me seeing a new recovery for the one x with (gsm) next to it thought hey finally got an official clockwork recovery for our phones!!!!! Well i was wrong. Its for the international versions only not ours. The partition it writes the recovery to is on our bootloader partition, and flashing it will kill your phone. I flashed it, kept it on for hours but as soon as i rebooted the phone it turned off and would not turn on or charge. You'll pretty much be screwed and have to get a new phone unless you know how to run linux and ask for help fixing it which is harder than you think. Again do not flash the htc one x (gsm) recovery in rom manager!!!!!
Hope this helps some of you before hand and not after.
If this post isn't necessary i am sorry and please close it.
Nobody should ever use ROM Manager for anything, EVER.
Sorry for your loss.
Why would you flash a recovery for a different device and expect it to work?
When ROM manger is supported on your device its a great tool, like on the sgs2. If its not officilially supported on your device, don't mess with it.

in fact, it is not really that hard to fix. Just re-lock the phone via fastboot. then run RUU package from AT&T
It should set every thing back to original.
if your phone is not respond RUU, try reboot on RUU via fastboot.
By the way, The only recovery that works now is TWRP
Use this one only

The ruu has to access the boot loader to verify your version. If you end up flashing a device and it writes certain partitions of your boot loader (ICJ).... Well your left with a permabrick, until someone finds a way to JTAG the One X(AT&T). I've heard that its already been done, but the person who has performed it has kept the pinout secret.
I'm not entirely sure which partitions your ROM manager has wrote to, if you can find that out you might be able to fix it... Depending on which ones have been written too.

You must be doing something wrong then. You don't even need to locate backups with TWRP, they're found automatically. Anyway, was it really necessary to revive an 18 month old thread just to say that?

Hi there, I have had this problem before. I am no dev so I can't explain the technical issue, but this usually happens when you flash a mod that's not compatible with your ROM... if its compatible and your ROM has updated, the mod sometimes needs to be updated to be compatible with the latest version of your ROM.
Reflashing your ROM will completely fix the issue. I hate to say it, but ALWAYS do backups before flashing anything through recovery!!!

He's not rooted it seems. You first need to calm down. Then, go to settings -> About phone and see what build you have. If it's 2.20 then go here. If it's 1.73 or 1.82 go here. If it's 1.85 then go here. Once rooted, if you have anything but 2.20 you won't need to flash the boot.img seperately. In order to flash the boot.img go here.

That happened to me on my old LG G2X. I tried to do something similar with a different program. It was messing with SystemUI.apk. I had created a backup before it did its work so I just replaced it, rebooted and it was fine. Might not be the same problem just because the symptoms are similar. If you had an unmodified SystemUI.apk file you could probably just overwrite it. Worst case, just flash a new ROM.
But yeah, in the future always take backups before you do anything like that. I learned that the hard way a few times.

Hey guys my s3 killed its self yesterday so I grabbed one of these beauties today and I'm really impressed so far(maybe its the custom ROM).
Now I got the phone off a guy, had it he unlocked the bootloader, rooted, and gave me the phone already running 4.1(dirty 1.8).no back ups to even a rooted stock.
Although I love jelly bean this battery is killing me and I would really like to have at least a stock zip I can flash in emergencies.
I am so unfamiliar with HTC(nexus one was the last one I owned)thank I really don't want to brick it.
OK so my questions are these
I have the rogers version of the Onex is there certain builds I need to look for or are they all just HTC one x?
With HTC is there a fallback like with samsung if things go wrong at least there's always download mode and Odin.
Do I need to have my boot loader unlocked?
Thanks in advance
And sorry for the noobness I just can't kill 2 phones in a week

No! It is wise of you to ask this, because there are two versions of the One X, the International (Tegra 3 quad-core) and the US/Rogers/Telstra (dual-core S4). Flashing stuff for the wrong version can permanently brick your phone (i.e., there is no current fix for some of these mistakes).

Assuming you haven't flashed the wrong ROM, you can generally always get out of trouble by booting into bootloader, relocking, and running the RUU for your firmware. Most problems can be fixed by going back into recovery and re-flashing or flashing something else.
Note: Figure out what version of hboot you have before doing anything. With 1.09, modding is pretty straightforward. With 1.14, you have to take some extra steps and there are a few things you can't do at all.
Do I need to have my boot loader unlocked?
Click to collapse
Yes. Leave it unlocked unless you need to RUU.
His hboot should be 1.11 which is the same as 1.09 as far as installing roms go.
If you're looking for a Sense ICS rom, I recommend ViperXL or CleanRom5. But there are other roms to try. As long as you stay in this forum and not the international forum you should be safe to flash anything you want.
Awesome thanks guys.
I check my boot loader and it is 1.11..
So that makes me happy cause all in all I'm addicted to flashing
One last question for you before I venture off on my own here..

Correct, stick to TWRP. There is an app called GooManager that makes installing and updating TWRP close to effortless.
If you haven't already, reboot to recovery and see what you've got installed. Some people insist on using ClockworkMod recovery because they've used it on other phones, but it's not supported for this one and can cause issues with data getting corrupted. If you have CWM installed, all you need to do is download GooManager and select "Install openrecovery script" in settings and it will replace it with TWRP.
Ya I always use twrp have for a while but what I mean is if (can?) I soft brick my phone or something happens that I can't flash from recovery is there a passimg zip like we had for the n1 that could be flash through the boot loader?
You know just in case

Hi guys. Loving the forums - I've been a watcher for a while, but have only just joined.
I'm having trouble installing most ROMs. They all hang at the opening screen, or continually reboot depending on which one it is. I've tried flashing boot.img with no success. I've had luck with Stuart's ROM, but was really hoping to find a stable ROM with Jelly Bean.

Give the members here more details. What exactly interests you in JB ROMS? What have you been trying to flash? What are you on right now?
If you wish to have a great Rom with no nonsense I'd suggest to you ViperXL. It's foolproof. I too asked questions after tons of research and tutorials. Asking questions is better than banging your head. And of course stick to this this forum for ROMS and you'll avoid a cool looking paperweight.

Thanks! I'd read through this one and had tried flashing the boot.img as it suggests for those experiencing my problem. Unfortunately it made no difference. It's a helpful guide though - unfortunately it came after I'd worked it all out for myself from other forums and posts!

What exactly interests you in JB ROMS? What have you been trying to flash? What are you on right now?

Thanks Jon. I'm after Jelly Bean primarily to check out Google Now. I head up digital customer experience for a big Aussie company and am interested to see how it might help our customers (READ: Really I want to know how it can help me!)
I was on a rooted stock Telstra ROM but couldn't get the OTA JB update to work. I tried ViperXL 3.0.0, CyanogenMOD 10 and Tachi91's v2.1 MOD. ViperXL is what I want to run ideally.
Currently on Scott's CleanROM 5.1. I'm running One XL with Firmware 2.20.502.7.
By all means download Viper and flash that bad boy. Firmware 2.20 and Viper are good friends. No need to flash .img separately. While you're at it, check out some kernels in the Venom Hub.
You came to the right place for help though. Never think you can't ask a quesrion hers if you think research hasn't answered it for you.
I've been trying Google Now but it's not doing much for me. Still playing with it.

regarding Viper, I just downloaded 2.4.0 and honestly don't know what to do next. Do I just move the file to the phone while it's plugged in? I rooted and unlocked last night, and installed twrp. I didn't want to start a thread about this and am having trouble finding the answer. Any help is a big thanks.

First and foremost, go into recovery (twrp) and make a backup. The backup is just that, a backup in case something goes wrong.
Now that you have a backup, plug your phone into you pc (assuming that's what you have) and select your phone to be mounted as storage.
Next, open your file location for your phone.
Next, locate Viper Rom.
Now, copy Viper (just drag and drop) it into your phones sd card.
Ok. Now you should copy your backup you made in twrp previously. Now you have it backed up in two locations.
Let's get started:
Boot into recovery (twrp).
Select Wipe and do the next 4 steps INSIDE twrp!
Now wipe dalvick cache.
Now wipe cache.
Now wipe system.
Now do a factory reset.
Now Select Install in twrp.
Find your Viper folder zip.
Select it.
Swipe to flash!
Follow Aroma Installer options to your liking.
Please be patient as it takes a while. Also, when it first boots it takes a while.
Any more questions, just ask us

That sucks but it will be fun to learn about all the tweaks and such. I would go back to the Venom thread and flash the 2.4.0-->::2.4.1 update. I did the ota reset file too. Same thing you did before by wiping but you don't do or need a factory reset. Just flash those files in twrp. All up to date then.

Hmm. Viper 3.0.0 really did not work and I followed the instructions closely. Perhaps I will try Viper 2.4.0 and then, if successful, look at updating my kernel, and then updating to 3.0.0? Current kernel is 3.0.8-01558-g7f75e5b Could this be causing me problems?

Before you started to install Viper 3.0.0, what we're you on?
Sure, if let's say you had-Viper 2.4.0 but wishing to go to 3.0.0, THEN you need to flash the boot img separate since its a JB Rom.
The directions I provided are fool proof and the other user had success. So I'm wondering what you started out on before you loaded the Rom.
--------------------
Also, Viper and CleanRom are identical in the fact you DON'T need to extract the boot.img from the Rom zip as long as its under 3.0.0 (if flashing Viper). It's basically pointing twrp to the Viper zip and swiping to goodness.

So I've finally had success! Installed both 3.0.0 and 2.4.1 - I realised that I was much better off on 2.4.1 with all the venom tweaks than on 3.0.0 for seemingly not much more OS-wise, especially since I want to bypass my corporate exchange security policy, and Google Now was available as a mod.
Turns out I was trying to install on top of ROMs that wouldn't boot, and when I was trying to install from working ROMs, I wouldn't think to go back in to make sure debugging was on and fast boot was off.
The key things I've learned (which I initially missed in my initial scan of pages and pages of forum posts):
You need to install from a stable ROM that will let you boot into it
...because having a stable ROM will allow you to make sure the fast boot setting in the Power settings is off and USB debugging is on in Developer tools
You may need to flash boot.img if you're running bootloader 1.13 or above - even if the ROM installer instructs you not to
boot.img must be flashed before the installation, not after
They might sound obvious now, but this might hopefully help anyone else in my situation.
Thanks for all your help guys!
PS - LOVING Viper.

Good to hear you got it up and running. Viper was recommended to me and man once I played with it and tweaked it I'm having a hard time wanting to flash anything else. If I do its going to be 3.0.0. The tweaks and ElementalX kernel are just unreal.
P.S. Hitting the Thanks button is a good way to show your appreciation.
