Would this help everyone with signal issues? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

eHRPD*is basically a layer "on top" of EVDO Rev A to help make the 3G/4G handoff faster and more efficient. By nature it's not the best solution, but all they had to work with until the new*chipsets*come out. eHRPD is the reason LTE phones can't even hold a good 3G signal when LTE is struggling or down, while your friend's 3G only phone is standing strong. Get rid of eHRPD and the phone will function like a normal, solid, 3G only Verizon phone. Currently the only chipsets that allow you to truly "get rid of" eHRPD are on the Rezound and Thunderbolt, buried deep in the modem settings, but accessible (and changeable!) nonetheless.*The fact that it's showing eHRPD while the signal indicator is "locked" makes me think that it was struggling at that point, and is not inconsistent with the way it sounds like it's been acting. To be honest, and I'm no expert so take this with a big fat grain of salt, it looks like you're phone is struggling with the eHRPD just like they all do when LTE is weak or down.*

No one with some insight ?

I think its more of an antenna issue. Maybe a good antenna mod is needed.

I too have been heavily researching this exact same problem.
Using "phone info" if I select EVDO only I have absolutely amazing 3G speeds. But I lose the ability to send and receive calls or text messages.

Occasional SMS Failure

Curious to know why messages sometimes fail. I know if i dont have service, thats an obvious answer. Sometimes though I will see the failure notification and then i glance up and see that I have service. Did I loose service and it came back that fast / I didn't see it, or do messages just " some times fail" ??? Please point me to the reasoning of this, I am techy and am very curious why.
This happens maybe 1once every 1,000-2,000 messages, so not very often at all. And I have noticed this at home at my desk, driving ( passengering) in the car. ect.
As well as do the -DB account for the signal bars, ( I have a widget that shows signal bars and -DB) or is DB something that goes along with signal strength?
??????????????

If this happens once every 1000-2000 msgs I wouldn't worry.

I probably average one of these a day, half because of signal, half not. I think it's just AT&T. I wouldn't worry about it.
Well I'm curious why it happens.....?

happens to everyone. if it's not happeninga lot, deal with it.
there definitely was already a thread about this. It is from a momentary network drop possible a corrupt packet along the way or some obscure system problem. Unless it is happening every message (which happens to me at home because of ****ty reception) just suffer through the 5 seconds and three clicks. There is not a magical fix all solution by changing a setting

Is this a cappy thing or AT& T thing? Apparently again there are. 2 towers down in my area...

...you just answered your own question. If your reception is so great with 2 towers then it must be your captivate. Most people don't go through perfect cell reception for several thousand messages so a couple of fail to send are not a problem

I said 2 towers are down. But I'm in a different area and I fail like. 1 outa. 70 with good service. This has just been a common problem today. Otherwise it is seldome.

I think we all have this issue, no matter the phone. All comes down to the primary factor - AT&T
Lol the irony. I came down south 70 miles from where my home is where the down towers are, only to hear there's down towers in this area as well. Haha

Sorry did not see they were down plus the moonshine making had me a little loopy. With down towers in the area the other ones are being over taxed. Att already has problems with their networks being assaulted by iphone users

This seems to work better for 3G!

I find this below to work better than the *#*#4636#*#*. Seems like 3G is stable now. I have yet to see the 1x since I did this. It does turn 4G completely off though. From what HTC support says they are working on a fix for the radio, camcorder, txt, and battery issues. I was told an update when it comes should set it back to LTE. We don't have 4G yet so a good 3G signal that sticks instead of dropping out to 1x is fine by me til they get it fixed.

Are you on WiFi, because ehrp whatever is what allows you to talk and surf, putting it on rev a is just putting the phone on the old non talk and diem network.
Wifi off and it still works. Must be that it just turns the 4G off. I get email, txt, can put the wife on speaker and look at forums on the web and browse sites no problem.

I thought it was known that you can use 3G and talk on this phone at the same time. You don't need 4G. I used it once just to see that I could. I'll probably never use it again.
ehrpd is not the talk and surf thing. It makes the handoff between 3g and LTE work properly. Without ehrpd all your data connections will reset when you go between evdo and lte
All this like does is show you how to set your tb so it will stay on 3G and not 1x, which it kills the 4G. I see no point in having 4G search if I'm not in a 4G area. Plus it helps that battery issue a bit too.

weird switching between Edge and 4G

Where I work, there is generally only edge network speeds (AT&T). In my building though, we have cell repeaters. While getting close to the repeaters, I can put my skyrocket into airplane mode and then re-enable the radios and suddenly, I'll get 4G (albeit slow 4G ~ 800kb/s-1.1 Mb/s) speeds.
1. Why wouldn't the phone auto-switch to the better network
2. Why can I get 4G through the repeater, when outside my building I can only get Edge? Seems more plausible that the repeater would cause even more loss on the network throughput...
just curious to see what others think about this.
The repeater is powered with a much better antenna than your cell. So it can pick up the 4g signal where your phone can't. It then sends that signal to you. So it doesn't surprise me that you get 4g service around it when you normally wouldn't without it. What does surprise me is why your phone doesn't automatically pick that up. Dunno

even weirder was that until I updated to ICS recently, I couldn't even get the 4G, while everyone with Iphones could switch into airplane mode and back and get 3G at least. odd.
guess it's just the wonders of working 30 miles away from civilization...

yeah, it's not "real" 4G for sure. I'm only getting a max of 1Mb/s down. Usually around 400-500kb/s. but definitely beats out 15kb/s that I WAS getting
The phone indicates it as 4G on the icon.

[Q] How widespread are the signal loss issues?

I'm thinking about buying a SGS3 to replace my Thunderbolt.
I tried a Galaxy Nexus, and while I got good 4G reception at home, it had trouble getting any signal at work. (4g or 3g WiFi was fine) I've read about similar issues with the SGS3, and wanted to avoid that phone if I'll have the same problem.
With my Thunderbolt I get pretty consistent signal reception at work.
I came from the Thunderbolt and this phone is a little better. I get good signal, but not as good as I would have thought or expected.

It may depend on where you live too. I'm outside NYC and 4G is never a problem. And have never had a dropped call.

I'll say, at home signal is perfect...during area. I also work in the country a lot and my s3 gets better signal then my previous razr maxx. So I'm very happy, but not everybody has the same experience.

[Q] I installed CM10 on my T-mobile Blaze and lost 4G capability! Please help!

I rooted my T-mobile galaxy blaze 4g and installed ICS 2.3.6. A short time later I upgraded to CM10.0.0. It was there that I noticed that I lost my 4G capability. I only have 2G/3G service now. Where did it go and how can I get it back? Please help!

Go into settings/wireless/more/mobile networks/network mode and check mark the one with lte. This should solve your problem
Did that but still showing 2G/3G and an H+ for my network connectivity. Could it be because T Mobile does not recognize this particular ROM yet and therefore has not authorized it to carry 4g? Kind of at a loss as what to do anybody with other suggestions please.

OK cool. I hate to belabor this topic but it why is the 4g intermittent and 3g and 2g seem to be default? It only goes into H+ intermittently it's in very few circumstances. Primarily remains in 3g and menu allows me to go down to 2g. I'm pretty new, I've done a lot of reading, I'm just trying to understand. Thank you for all your help.

Its just as frequent as your last ics , the difference is 4g from T-Mobile never leaves the screen but you were still alternating 3g/4g just the same. Another thing is T-Mobile has less 4g towers than say sprint or atnt sooo really nothings changed. Enjoy !!!
TMO ROMs show 4G full time to avoid panic.
TMO calls HSPA14 and up "4G".
H+ is HSPA+21 and higher.
Phone automatically ramps down to H or "3G" when data connection is more or less idle. Under use, it'll ramp up to H+. Potential battery saving...
Nothing has changed compared with before, except the dummy icon.
