I'm thinking of changing my rom and I've read that when I do that I'll lose the pictures I took with the camera. Is there an app that you can use to save those and change roms? Thanks for any replies..

When flashing a new ROM the contence of your SD card should not be affected. If you want to be really anal about it, just plug your phone to a pc, mount and transfer the pictures your self. They will be located in the folder named " DCIM".

You could sync it with a dropbox... 5 gigs should be a good amount for photos

"Should not be affected" with "should" being the key word here. The SD contents are not supposed to be touched when flashing a ROM. But in reality, they can be. Many folks, including myself have had random instances of various files, or the entire internal SD being wiped or corrupted when flashing things from recovery. Nobody has been able to figure out why, or fix it. Might be recovery, but it happens with both CWM and TWRP (with TWRP being the recommended recovery, of course), so might be a bug with the phone itself.
In any case, I would urge you to backup anything you consider irreplaceable prior to flashing anything from recovery. This includes photos and videos you've taken, and your Titanium Backup folder, and anything else not easily replaced.
I've had the file corruption problem happen at least 3 times. I flash ROMs occasionally, but not a flash addict. So for me, I'd say the issue with files being corrupted has happened as much 20% (maybe more) of the times I flash something. So I'd say at least for my phone, backing up before flashing is far from being "anal". Yeah, its a bit of a pain to have to backup things every time you want to flash something. But better than crying about losing pics or other files if/when they are lost.

Why not just copy the titanium backup folder to your computer first? Flash your rom then once you get your phone running copy the folder back to your phone. Reinstall titanium backup and restore as needed. Titanium also comes with dropbox built in which can be pretty useful.

Dude what is your problem. Sometimes people don't know as much as you. This is why they come here and ask questions. They don't need to be ridiculed for not knowing how to do something. I wouldn't ridicule you for losing for instance some chess games against me. I would instead assume you haven't spent thousands of hours studying it and be fine with that instead of throwing it in your face. You have a problem. Firstly, Your Rude, Secondly you don't have a clue because you are completely wrong and clearly cannot read.
The OP had clearly stated he did not have an SD Card (but COULD), so if you did a full backup to internal memory (because of no SD Card).
Then yes, if you flash (as most require format/wipe, cache, and dalvik) you would also wipe your backup. Those with devices with no SD Card support should take care to copy the backup files manually to another device for later use.
I was searching for the question of "How to use Titanium Backup before flashing to a new ROM?"
However my question remains unanswered...
I have a custom ROM already installed, with all my apps and configuration etc, I want to try a new ROM to test something, then revert back to the ROM I am using now,
Does Titanium Backup create a restore point image, that I can restore later, and as such carry on using my device where I had it at the point of backup?
If not an image, then is the functionality I am looking for available?

I don't believe titanium offers the feature you are looking for. It does have a feature that creates a flashable zip to to flash all your apps backcto the phone...however this feature has never worked for me lol. I always have to restore my apps the old fashioned way with the batch options restore. Like you,I did not have a SD card when I first flashed my phone. To get around this issue I created a backup with cwm and moved it to my PC for safe keeping. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID and transfer the backup to PC via USB cable....if you do this the md5 sum will become corrupt. I don't know why but nandroids are sensitive in the way they handled/moved across platforms. Download the free app from the market called Airdroid. It connects your phone to your PC through a wireless LAN connection. It takes a little longer to transfer the boot image since its a large file but its MUCH safer. When you do transfer the nandroid to your PC its very important to not change ANYTHING in the file, especially the name. Change nothing! Otherwise you will mess up the md5. If you do get aa corrupt md5 like I did there is a tutorial on this site somewhere that walks you through the process of fixing it but it was a pain in the a** so use airdroid lol. Hope this helped.
Ps- having a SD card makes like much easier in the world of flashing/android Modding. Even a small one is worth it. Best of luck

Thanks for this Pain-N-Panic, I am not sure, but it maybe something to do with transferring in binary / ASCII modes, similar to an issue you come across with FTP, so it is very plausible as an issue but someone with more knowledge of this would need to comment.
My solution which should help, is to go into Terminal Emulator, and use tar to create an archive.
Example...
type 'pwd' (for present working directory), it should be root by default '/'
in my case, i have /sdcard/ as a symlink to /storage/primary/legacy/
so then type 'cd' (for change directory) to the location of your sd card storage.
then typing 'tar -cvf file.tar ./folder/' c for create, v for verbose, f for file, then the file to create, and the folder.
Search for use of tar online, if you require more information.
Code:
cd /sdcard/
tar -cvf TitaniumBackup.tar /sdcard/TitaniumBackup/
You can then transfer your TitaniumBackup.tar with all file ownership, permissions and even file / folder timestamps are stored, for restoring the folder later.
So I've encountered this problem on another ROM where I wasn't able to install any APK files or any other applications in google play. I did some research when it kept telling me I don't have enough space to install the application because of low memory, which I obviously knew all my memory was good enough to install something, and I came across a thread somewhere that said to delete some type of file in the sd card or the system files but I can't remember what and where it is located nor I can't find the thread again. That resolved my issue on my old ROM.
I'm having this same problem with another ROM I'm currently running. Anyone know any solutions?

i can promise you no one will help you with such a vague question. if you were able to search out your answer before, surely you can again. if not please specify what rom you are using, or more accurately post said question in that roms forum so you can get a group of people that are currently using the same rom.

after looking at your post history, it seems you are having all kinds of problems with your phone.
My suggestion would be redownload your rom, put it on the sd card, then in 4ext or cwm set it to format all partitions except sd card. and then install your rom, reboot and ill bet your problems go away.

Well, I actually did search this problem I'm having when I first had it a couple weeks ago and I found a solution which was to delete a file in the system or SD card but I can no longer find it, hence the reason why I am asking for help on this.
I was able to install apps or APK files fine before I restored all my SMS and MMS messages but now I can't. I doubt it has anything to do with the ROM because it was working perfectly fine. And even after I restored all the messages, I know I have enough internal storage to install an application.
Now, what your saying is it too backup my ROM then format all partitions except the SD card. Whenever I try to back up a ROM, I don't understand why it takes up so much memory which causes it to have an error when it's in the process of backing up because of no more memory. The android secure folder that's on my SD card gets backed up with the ROM which is a big file and that's what causes it to have an error. That is when I have about 1.2gb free to backup. And people say when you backup ROMs it shouldn't be over a gig.
My ROM is Android Revolution HD 7.0.4

Problem will occur if u are restoring sms messages from a rom that isnt based on sense (like cm7, redemption, etc etc) unless you are using an app to do that like sms restore or gosms, for some reason ive had issues when i had TiBu do that for me.
I personally never backup and restore anything, sucks losing stuff but it is honestly the only way to create a clean environment. Backing up a rom takes up so much because (i could be mistaken) when you do a imaged backup from cwm or 4ext it takes even your cache folders into the backup.

I used My Backup Pro to backup and restore my messages. Hmm.. maybe I'll just backup my ROM, partition everything except my SD, and flash it again without restoring my messages and see if that helps. Thanks.

dont backup the rom, redownload it
I decided to install Clean Rom 4.0 Dev edition so I did a quick tibu, then booted into twrp and made a nandroid of my current setup
I then went to install DE clearing caches and /data
I went to install the rom and it wasn't there
the only thing on my SD card was my backup and it was corrupted.
I plugged my phone in and mounted the sd card and my computer said it was unreadable so I had to format it
I love starting over
I had cwm originally and randomly lost files off my sd card or were corrupted after mounting as usb so switched to twrp and have had the same problems with losing random files and corruption of files. So I don't think it's specific to the recovery its something else that's causing it. Wish I new what it was because it's quite annoying. I've resorted to only transfering files via dropbox or lan with es file explorer but it's definitely a pain when transferring a Rom.

QFT. while I've never had to pull a backup from the cloud I'm glad to have it as an option more than ever seeing as I no longer have an ext SD.
I also started syncing my photos to dropbox every day or so i can't lose those either.

I have it set up as well luckily that's one set files that I have never lost. It's weird there's no rhyme or reason to what gets wiped I've lost pictures data apps that I had saved copies of on my card data from apps. I just don't get it. I wonder if it's actually the internal sd card that's wonky or some way the usb is being handled when mounting.

I've wondered the same thing... It might not be recovery related since it happens with both.
That's odd, because I just flashed TWRP 2.1.7 yesterday and I was unable to wipe my SD card. I had to boot into the system and 'Delete Phone Storage' through the settings menu. Nothing would happen when I would try to wipe through TWRP.

Go to cnet.com and download Recuva. Then do a deep scan and it will recover the stuff you lost... worked for me

I had the same problems with my internal storage on HTC Touch Diamond. I lost a lot of files with that phone. With the HTC One X I have only lost a few Pictures that got corrupted, I think it all has to do with continuous flashing ROMs

I just lost a few photo's today. First time I've encountered this bug. Guess its time to get dropbox and have it sync my photo's and tibu stuff.
I'm pretty damn paranoid, so I've started doing an SD Card dump right before flashing a ROM using ADB.
$ adb pull /sdcard/
Probably overkill, since I have almost everything important backed up somewhere, but I'd rather take the extra thirty minutes and make sure I don't lose anything permanently.
Only thing I was out was time. I back up my photos to drop box and Google plus.

Is there a way to backup a whole folder with the dropbox phone app? Like... For instance I'd like to upload the entire TWRP folder. I couldn't find a way easily.

I just drag them from my phone to my dropbox folder on the computer and it syncs
the downer is there's no way to move a whole folder from dropbox to the phone, from the phone

I used CWM to make a nandroid backup. I am trying to extract data from it specifically the sdcard/DCIM where all my pictures are. I tried to just perform a restore of the nandroid backup but it fails the md5 checksum. Been there done that, got the t-shirt and I just can't fix the md5 checksum. So my next option is to just extract the sdcard/DCIM from the nandroid backup. I looked in system.ext4.tar and its not in there. Also checked data.ext4.tar and its not in there. Only other place it could be is in boot.img or recovery.img. Let me know if I am wrong about this! Anyways, I tried using unyaffs.exe and the command code "unyaffs.exe recovery.img" to extract and I get a "bad image file" error. I tried with all my backups even the ones I know work and they all give me the error so all my backups can't be bad so something either I am doing wrong or unyaffs.exe does not support newer versions of .img?
As of right now I am out of options. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can extract/recover my sdcard/DCIM folder from my CWM nandroid backup?

A nandroid backup will never have your internal data backed up in it. It backs up your system and the data incorperated with apps and and all that stuff. Pictures, music, video, etc. does NOT get backed up every time you do a backup (thank God!). That stuff is ALWAYS still there unless you do a wipe data/factory reset on the phone. I'm sure someone else will chime in here but I'm almost 100% positive I'm right. If you are looking for your pictures just boot your phone and hook it up USB to your computer. Open up the drive on your computer and look in the DCIM folder, your pics will all be there.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately my phone came back from Samsung after a storm fried my phone and they wiped my phone crystal clean. I thought that was one of the points of a nandroid backup was that it also backed up or at least gave you the option of backing up your personal files like music, pictures and so forth. I was under the impression this whole time that my files were safe in my nandroid backups now I cannot believe all my irreplaceable pictures are gone. Years of pictures lost. Maybe a recovery software could bring it back?

From here on out... I would install Google+ and instant upload that stuff or PicasaTool or something... That is what I do... I have them set as private unless I want to share it. It's the best form of picture backup, unless you plug your phone into your computer on a daily basis and transfer them...
I would go for the instant upload method in the future... does pics and videos....
Sorry man... they are gone...Factory doesn't mess with that stuff... If your phone got fried, its a different board inside and the internal SD is on the "motherboard" of the phone...
It also doesnt hurt to just backup your memory card(s) files to your pc every so often, via good 'ol fashioned drag and drop.

Yes. Another option is Dropbox, which you can also set to automatically upload pictures. Then, they sync with the Dropbox folder on your desktop.
If nanbackup backed up your SD card every time, people would run out of space in no time. Especially if you keep more than one backup handy. This is why I would encourage OP to use an external SD and be sure to physically take it out of the phone before wiping, flashing, anything like that. Multiple redundant backups, bro.
Thanks for the replies. Yeah I am just going to let it go. Probably a new internal SD card anyways like suggested. I still think there should at least be an OPTION in CWM to backup full internal SD card and make it default no. I have a 32GB card and having 1 to 2 concurrent FULL SD and nandroid backups wouldn't dent it. But it is what it is.
Since I want everything backed up not just pictures and videos I think the infamous old fashion drag and drop method is the best option. I'll store the data on my PC HDD or something for safe keeping.
If anyone discovers an app that not only backs up nandroid but complete internal SD or selectable internal SD folders as well please post it here. Between Titanium Backup and CWM it still does not backup everything. Maybe a 3rd app is needed to cover my ass with internal SD data or an all-in-one backup tool is yet to be created.

OK I don't think this is ROM related, but I am running CM11 M11 (I think) but I have had the issue for a while now. My internal SD card only shows about 600mb available. I have literally gone through every file on there and there is no way it is actually being used. Is there any way to format the interval SD card without wiping the entire system? Some how I think the way the system is reading the space is wrong. Because when I go to the storage tab in settings or will show like 10 goods available for about 3 seconds then it shows full. So it really sounds like there is something Hunny somewhere.

Have you tried using SDmaid by Dark3n? It has a find largest files function. For me this problem was produced by either dropbox or box (can't remember which) saving an additional copy of everything I uploaded to my internal storage.

I had this issue. I had to "format data" in TWRP. Be careful, you will lose everything! Make sure you back up all of your data, photos, music etc to PC. I made a fresh backup to external SD, and was able to restore that after, then restore photos, etc from PC.

If your recovery is CWM, did you make any backups?
I tried sdmaid and that did not work or find anything.
Ended up having to format my system and that did fix it. I just really did not want to.
As far as backups, no I have not. As my brother in law states I like living on the edge. That and I don't flash add much add I used to, and only 'stable' releases.
