How can I root TF300 on JB with locked bootloader? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for the [noob]
I lost root with OTA (I didn't know about OTA rootkeeper)
I have read and read to no avail.
Is there a solution to root w/o unlocking the bootloader, or must we wait? Any idea if the Nexus 7 root toolkit will work? I have not been able to try as of yet.

Not yet. The former methods no longer work due to a permissions update.

how to downgrade .30 to root? do i have to?

Just got a TF300, it already came updated to .30. Ive spent the entire afternoon and evening trying to figure out how to root my darn tablet. Ive tried literally every method listed on this site. I tried to downgrade to .17 but my tablet refuses to accept it. Im still on .30 and I dont know how to downgrade? do I have to downgrade or is there a method to root the .30? I havent gotten to checking out roms yet but I will probably end up flashing to the stablest JB rom available. Thanks in advance
You can use sparky's root tool it works with all versions.

I had debugging enabled but spark didn't work for me either. I had to use the method in viperMOD.

Unlocking bootloader after taking JB update?

So I have, until now, been content with a locked boot loader on my tab. I rooted it back on .30, but installed the jb firmware when it was released, so I no longer have root. I've been looking into it and it looks like there's a way to restore my root, but that's not really my question. I'm wondering if there's a way to unlock my boot loader now and start trying out some custom ROMs. On the Asus website it says the tool is only available for ICS. Has anyone tried it anyways? There's no workaround that I missed, is there? Apologies in advance for my noobieness and thank you for any input.

If you check the thread here he says he unlocked the bootloader after updating to JB, so yes apparently it works anyways.
So then what was his mistake? Using CWM? Trying to install an ICS ROM after taking the JB OTA? Haha saying "device unlocked" on the boot animation is meaningless if it boot loops.

I think his mistake was trying to install an ICS rom, after updating to JB. I'm assuming he didn't know he was basically trying to downgrade :/ which I don't think anyone has managed to do yet as far as I'm aware...

Fresh Flash vs Root.

Hey guys, i think I bugged up my infinity by uninstalling stuff. I'm considering doing the update trick (download n rename) to reflash Jb. I have root currently but I'm wondering will I lose it by doing this? I really don't want to unlock to root jelly or try downgrading to .30
Thanks guys

You will lose root if you flash full package. Basically, it will wipe everything before it update. Your option for locked bootloader is to downgrade back to .30 using full package from Asus website, root it and save root with OTA root keeper, then let the OTA upgrade back to JB, restore root with root keeper, you're good as new.

Rooting latest firmware

I have asus tf300t I never rooted on ics either and have bootloader locked. I updated to latest via ota updatesz is there a way to root without unlocking bootloader any link will be helpfull. Or guide me on how to unlock bootloader and then root.
Thanks in advance

You can unlock the bootloader with ASUS's official app on their website, search up transformer tf300 and there will be a .apk that you can install to unlock it. After that, use fastboot to flash a recovery such as cwm or twrp, then flash a root package or a ROM with root. Hope this helped!
Oky thanks can you send me link on how to flash using fastboot on tf300? Also cant I just keep factory room and root that if ao how any links will be helpful thanks

You can read this thread for more information about unlocking and rooting, but before starting anything, please think about it and be aware that unlocking the bootloader will:
- void your warranty
- prevent further OTA updates for your tablet from Asus
Cheers

Before you read, there are some considerations: I unlocked my device last night and I am running either .29 or .30 of the ICS firmware. I also, never connected the device to my network until after I unlocked it. So if you have a TF300T runing the above versions of ICS, then it should work for you. You said you: "updated to latest via ota..." If you did this, you are on Jelly Bean and at the moment, there is no known way to make your device "unbrickable." You can still mod it, but if you dont follow directions perfectly, you could easily brick your device. Now without further hesitation....
Here it is, the TF300T unlocking guide:
Go to the Asus site and download the v7 tool
copy the v7 tool to the tablet
run the v7 tool on your tablet from the tablet GUI
it will install the v7 unlocker application
run the unlocker application from your app drawer
you have to accept a few agreements
click the unlock button
after that, your device will reboot
This is how to confirm that the unlock tool was successful: After your TF300 reboots, you will see the normal ASUS logo in the middle and some very small text in the top left will say: "device unlocked."
Now for rooting:
If you already have root, and you want to keep your exiting root access, make a backup after unlocking. The backup instructions are included in the "unbrickable" method. If you do not have root, just make a backup anyways. Then you can flash a ROM onto your device that is pre-loaded with root.
I hope that answered your questions.
Thanks but no I am on jb. So I will just wait till a solution comes out for unbrickable before trying anything dont want to mod ot just want tp remove a few apps

It seems someone always bricks on something that was thought to be unbrickable. No I'm not suggesting you go forward, just the opposite. As long as you aren't sure about change enjoy your tablet as it is and just forget about the apps that bother you.
Good Luck!

Odd issue with cwm for JB.

Ok I hope you all can help sort something out for me. I just got a refurbished TF300T a couple days ago. I unlocked it in ICS and then it forced the OTA of 4.1.1 on me. I had no problem getting ADB drivers in and flashed the jelly bean recovery. I rebooted into recovery and there was cwm. I tried flashing the rootzip that is out there but it did not work. I then tried to do a bakup and it failed. I then realized i could not see emmc only sd.
Any ideas.
I have a rooted modded nooktab so i am somewhat familar with these devices but i am stumped.
Thanks for the help

I'd try manually flashing the firmware and then flashing CWM again, or TWRP which some users will argue is much better than CWM.

Thanks for the tips. Yea in a tough spot. Not sure what to do. I will, search around. You think flashing the firmware will work. Should i flash stock recovery too.
Odd issue. Wonder why they did this?

Just read the post again if you are still on 4.1.1 the disreguard what i had mention theres probably away to fix which im sure some one can help but what i had talked about was the 4.2.1 jb update attempting to root on that is a no go. So just ignore that post. I'm on stock 4.2.1 but unlocked bootloader so can't help there cant go any further myself at the moment.
In my setup menu theres an option to add seperate users some seem to think that it encrypts the information so another person who has access under another user name cant see another person info. Sound logical to me but really messed things up for us.
Now still thats all just speculation no one knows for sure what the exact issue is with the 4.2.1 update is yet but best advice is to wait till it's figured out.

Reflashing stock img will flash back stock recovery, so I'd just do what I said, you should be good.
