I have a variety of videos I've tried on multiple players including the stock one, and a couple video players available on the Market.
So far most of the videos fail to play.
Can anyone suggest how to upgrade the codecs so the phone can play video? I'm going nuts/.
Diceplayer- haven't found many videos it couldn't play. Watching game of thrones now

You do realize VideoLAN will be releasing VLC Player for Android very soon.
Re VPlayer ~ since the dev went Paid only with this App it's caused quite a bit of negativity.
So, whilst waiting for VLC I would also recommend Rockplayer.
I used vplayer on the tablet, and noticed it was struggling with 720p MKVs, while the native video player was coping just perfectly.
Have now discovered mVideoplayer, which does handle MKVs perfectly, and is now my preferred video player.
Anyone tried QQPlayer???
http://android-apps.com/applications/media-video/qqplayer/
Mobile QQ player is one of the best video player application running on Android smartphones that supports all the popular formats of videos on the market, including RMVB, AVI, FLV, MP4, 3GP, MKV, MOV and etc. Its smart core technology auto detects video formats and makes it much easier for you to enjoy smoother, better quality videos with limited resources and smaller screen. Download from the Android Market for free now!
Mplayer was just ported to Android 1.6+. It was on XDA's twitter feed this morning. Haven't tried it yet on the Tab, but it should support pretty much every codec and container out there.
M player feels ok not really happy using it.

factory player not play multichannel aac this is true and there are lot of such in typically mp4 container... the other problems is vplayer and rockplayer not use hardware accelerated decoding in native mode so with strong files you will in trouble... more over these I simply don't know that fir the original player seems to need just some correct splitters as seems the decoder is very good for almost everything... maybe core player will play everything with hw decoding... hope...
What´s the best player for dreamdoid? With vplayer de-interlacing does not work very well and i have FCs
tried it but didnt play mkv file, may be the file is bad as nothing else plays it well either.

its a very nice player, haven't had any problems with it.
however, not sure if i have tried avi...but pretty sure i have.
See my thread here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730177.
I've been using the Dice player and I've been watching my movies in .m4v format, plays good.

I need to try VLC, but I'm using Dice Player Ad from the market right now. Plays everything I've thrown at it so far. I tried MX Player first but I was having to use SW decoding to get audio to play with my mkv files, Dice doesn't have that issue.

MX PLAYER really did good job on TF300T
audio in AC3 coded is not supported by the system default, MX Player could play that.
Is your player a free app or a pro apk?
My MX player pro that I got from google crashes every couple seconds
I downloaded the free version, which there is no difference besides a ad when you aren't watching
I have few MKV video files in my GS3. On stock video player, i can see the thumbnail of that mkv files, but when i played the file, it keep telling me that it can't play the files.
is there anyway to play MKV video files in stock video player?
I highly doubt you will be able to play MKV files on the stock player. But don't take my word for it. Try googling it and do let us know what you find. In the mean time, I could recommend a good free video player I found on the market which works fine for me - MoboPlayer. It's highly rated in the app market and has been perfoming pretty well for me. I've never had to use the stock player ever since I got this.
Yea mobo now let's you have the floating video on home like the stock ones does. It also gives you screen gestures for volume and brightness. Mx video is also a good player as well

Thanks.
Try Mobo player.

I like BSPlayer. It seems to work well.
I think that 50 fps are over 30 fps max of HW video decoder capabilities.
Also i suspect a very high bitrate from a video camera file...
I don't think that you will be able to play it smoothly with any software.
I have Mobo, MX and BSplayer. Absolutely BSplayer does the best job. If it doesn't play your video, nothing will. You may have to re-encode with Handbrake.
Just tried the BSPlayer, you are right, it plays everything even files that the Mobo couldn't, thanx a lot for the tip!

I downloaded The Dark knight Rises to my phone (from flixster) and I get an error message saying the video cannot be played. I tried downloading several different mp4 video players from the Play Store, but none of those worked either.
Any suggestions? It is happening both to my GSII and my GNoteII
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Mp4 video you are trying to play probably contains a different codec written onto it.
Have you tried 'mxplayer' from store?
Also download different codecs from store after you download mxplayer.
Hope it helps.

A codec is way/method of archieving lossy compression of a video/audio stream. To be able to decode a video using a certain codec your video player needs to support that codec. If your video is in .mp4 format it's most likely going to be using h.264 codec, but I'm surprised you can't play your video with mxplayer cause I've only had success with that.
Have you actually been able to play this video on your computer?

Try Dice player from the play store! One of my friend has a note 2 and uses this app! It has lots of cool features and supports a wide variety of formats and codecs! Give it a try! :good:
Okay, so I have figured it out. I have to actually watch the movie in the flixster app, and not through my stock gallery...which I was hoping I could use the pop up play feature, but oh well...
Thank you everyone for your responses, I will still try the dice player just for kicks. Do you know if that one has a pop up player?
