Un-Rooting G2x - General Topics

I rooted my G2x using Super One Click and installed Titanium Backup Pro.
I now want to un-root it. The first time I tried to re-root using super one click I forgot to tick the USB Debugging and SOC froze. Unplugged it and rebooted and tried again but it seem like it didn't work 'cause it told me Super User was gone. So, I r-rooted it. Now everything is back to it's rooted stare along with Super User.
I want to un-root and do a factory data reset. I've unfrozen and restored all the apps I modified.
Before I try what steps do I go through to get my phone back to Factory settings?

Phone is having weird root problems

I rooted my Epic 4G a few weeks ago. I had problems with the 3G, so I eventually had to do a full wipe with Odin (just flashing the kernel never worked, it kept failing. Only a full wipe worked.) So I re-rooted so I could restore all my backups with Titanium Backup and just kept root.
Well, today I went back into Titanium Backup only to discover that it said I was NOT rooted. This didn't make any sense...I did get one OTA update to my phone, but I was under the impression that these didn't remove root.
So I thought maybe it was my BusyBox...I used the link within Titanium to DL BusyBox. Went into the BusyBox installer, and it's main screen said I WAS rooted...the Heck?
So I tried to install, but I got the error saying it failed. The exact wording was "The application failed, either because your device is not nand unlocked or we were unable to remount."
So what gives?
I tried to re-root using the one-click, that didn't work. I tried to uninstall the root using the one-click uninstaller, that didn't work. The windows just hang up and don't do anything. I tried to re-flash the kernel with Odin and, just like last time, it didn't work. I get the feeling I'll have to do what I did last time and do a complete wipe with Odin, which will really suck because I'm not able to recreate any backups this time around.
sounds like a superuser permission issue to me.
ota removes root, always, just reroot

[Q] Rooted phone HTC Desire HD but no super user icon

Hey everyone I just did a big boo boo and cant seem to fix the problem im facing. I rooted my phone using Visionary which worked flawlessly and I had Titanium backup working like a charm. I managed to do a factory reset by accident and erased everything. So I downloaded visionary again and tried to root the HTC Desire HD once more but it says my device is already rooted. Thats fine. But When I download Titanium backup it says that it cant find the root and also there is no (superuser icon) anymore, what does this mean? So I have a rooted phone but nothing works. I dont think i did any backups proper ones atleast. I factory reseted it in the boot menu trying to get the S-off and thats when i did the reset. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Step by step instructions would be great thanks!
Hey guys I finally figured it out! After some extensive research with my friend google. I got it working again. Basically all I did was uninstall visionary, titanium backup and then reinstalled visionary+R14 and reinstalled titanium backup it recognized the root and the superuser icon popped back up. everything is going smoothly for now at least. I think that Visionary+R14 doesn't need to know if the phone is already rooted or not it just reroots it anyway.

Rooted Tablet went bad...

I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 tablet with the tutorial from this site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24736900
It worked just fine for a couple days, then today I powered up the tablet and when I unlock it, it shows a problem loading all widgets, and within a few seconds the screen goes black, then proceeds back to the unlock screen. I unlock it again and this keeps repeating.
I didn't hack anything else, just installed superuser and a couple of other root apps. Really I haven't done anything else to cause this.
I don't even have enough time to go into settings and do a factory reset.
Any ideas? Perhaps in recovery?
EDIT - I did a factory reset in recovery. Is this going to fix it back to normal? I probably won't root ever again.
It probably has no affect, but what root apps did you install?
superuser, busybox, adfree, rom toolbox (which couldnt even detect my root but I never tried anything else)... those I can remember...
Did you install CWM and do a backup?
Im not sure what that acronym is for. I am new to all this. I followed the simple instructions in that tutorial and that was it.
It seems the issue is gone since my factory reset.
I am not sure if the root is still there however.
If there are extra steps to be done after a root it would help to have them with the tutorial....
A factory reset will remove root from your phone. Rooting it in and of itself should cause no issues like you are having it has to be something you installed and I would suspect ROM Toolbox. I'm not sure this app supports teh GTab+ or even has any useful purpose for us as we have no real ROMs to flash. It also contains a ROM Manager and if its the same one by Koush then it will defintely screw up our tablets.

I have done this ROOT like a million times (i'm a flash junkie)... testing the CM9 roms and back to stock again.. never had an issue with ROOTing the stock ROMs..
Suggest you download the latest firmware for your device and flash using ODIN and factory reset. Repeat the flash & factory reset a few times
Maybe you have the wrong clue of what your problem is. To root your tab is just a matter of put a binary called "su" on a directory on your PATH, usually /usr/bin and set it with proper permissions. This binary gives you superuser powers, but there's nothing on it or at least in the process that installs it that makes it interfere in anything without being called.
So accidentally you did anything that went wrong or any of programs that requires root did.

Sorry for taking a bit to reply, havent had the chance to get much PC stuff done lately.
Aaah so you think it was the culprit.... its wierd because when I tried to run the rom toolbox it shown that my tab was not rooted.
Then the problems started... as in my tab was rebooting itself and was stuck in a loop.
I did do the factory reset and then used a root checker and noticed it shown as no root access.
I have read that a factory reset does not remove root... are you sure it does completely?
I'd hate to go through another reset as I have set everything up again.
The only bug I have noticed so far with my tab is that the odd app (so far market and dolphin browser) at times I am unable to go back a page... the page just kind of flashes and stays on that page but does not go back. I end up having to restart the app.
Should I reflash with latest firmware and do a factory reset?
If so... I found this site, shall I use these instructions and firmware?

[Q] What is the best method to 'factory reset' a rooted Droid MAXX that has KitKat?

I have a Droid MAXX that is rooted and running 4.4 KitKat.
It is becoming unstable (battery draining when tethered instead of charging, power off doesn't work and reboots instead, etc), and I just want to return it to stock, but keep root and wp/off.
I've currently backed up my apps (Titanium) and copying that off device, plus cloning a copy of the /sdcard contents off device as well.
Is there anything else I need to do? Should I use the recovery's factory restore? Do I need to flash something instead?
(Is this all a waste of time? )
Just do a normal factory reset. That's what I just did

Ok. Factory reset worked and kept root. But things like 'power off' didn't work (it still reboots), so I thought things were messed up worse.
Then I decided to use House of Moto to flash. Silly me. I should have known better. Flashed just fine, still had no write protect, but now I have no root. Super SU won't install a 'su'.
And it STILL reboots when you use 'power off' from the power button menu.
So, Factory Restore? Yes, then reinstall SuperSU.
House of Moto flashing back to 4.4? No, 'su' gets removed so you lose root, but you still have wp disabled.

FDR is just that data reset not system fxz resets the system that's why you lost root. IMHO FDRis for apps acting up or if PlayStation won't allow you to install an app. System issues are rarely fixed without an fxz. Since you lost root I would just fxz again and see if it fixed the problem. If not then what fxz are you using full or save data.
I would call for a replacement phone. Hopefully you'll get one with 4.2.2 and you'd be able to try the root method again. Instead of waiting for an exploit for 4.4. :/

Question. So I also have a Droid Maxx rooted on 4.4 and I am selling it. Just to be clear, do i need to backup anything or are you saying all I would need to do is just do a factory reset and the new owner would just install SuperSU and they will still have root?

Lg_setup.apk please

LS996-ZV9 Sprint
I did something stupid. After I rooted my phone I did a little clean up of apps I don't use. Well the LG setup was one of them, I uninstalled it. Well I did a factory reset. I forget that doesn't restore uninstalled apps. So as soon as I rebooted my phone I could only get through the first part of the setup. My phone boots and go through the setup. But when its done it goes right back through the setup.
My option are to do an unroot and install a stock system.
Install a stock rooted system.
or adb the apk to the phone, do a reset and hope that it was just the LG setup app.
TIA

i have a 955 with 15c, so maybe it cant work there but if you can point me to the path of the apk i can send it to you.
I think easiest way would be to use lg flash tool and just start from beginning, works for h955
Here was my solution; so far.
I bluetoothed titanium backup from my tablet to my phone. Once i had the download notification i installed the app. After the install i open the app and froze the LGSetup app. Now the only problem i have is some of my stettings cause the settings app to stop and close.
Im going to try and run the rootsystem.img again.
WHAT I DID FIND; After the factory reset my internal storage had been wipped. But my rootsystem.img file was still there and untouched.
