when i launch the text msg app
under settings.. MMS settings - "server address"
I am running the synergy nightlies, but i took the stock APK and decompiled it and looked through it,
it's in the preferences file as well.
so it's not a synergy thing, it came from sammy/vzw that way.
which if it had said
"txtmsg.verizon.com" or something like that, i certainly wouldn't have thought twice about it.
but the address seemed out of the ordinary to me, so i googled it and came up with "china mobile" many times.
so now i'm concerned that our txt's are going to china for some unknown reason

guess nobody cares about this?

So I was on clean ROM and that info wasn't there. But on syn it is. The messaging app looks the same and is the same version so synergy team must have altered it somehow. Prolly ask them what's going on. I too would like to know

I took the stock app and decompiled it and found that server in the settings file.
the synergy guys only made it so you can see more options. they didn't add it in.
but I've posted about this over at rootz and nobody has even answered my thread.
and so far you are the only one here..
i'm struggling to understand why nobody cares that their text messages are going to a Chinese server?
or why nobody is telling me i'm wrong.

As mentioned in my previous post, Team synergy made more options available in the MMS app. so if you are on stock, then you wouldn't see it.
however, i took the stock app apart and found the server listed there as well. so it has nothing to do with the synergy rom.
they just exposed more options for the app.
When i get home I'll post screen shots

Mine is different. Stock root66, I can view the MMSC server using hidden menu. Mine is http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms

So when i launch the mms app and go into the settings, i see that server (http://mmsc.vnet.mobi/ )
I also took apart the STOCK apk file and found it in this line from preferences.xml
<EditTextPreference android:enabled="false" android:singleLine="true" android:title="@string/pref_title_mmsc_url" android:key="pref_mmsc_url" android:summary="http://mmsc.vnet.mobi" android:defaultValue="http://mmsc.vnet.mobi" android:dialogTitle="@string/pref_title_mmsc_url" />
however, when i run the hidden menu and view the mmsc under data i see this server
http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
so i'm not sure what to make of this....

I'm not on synergy so all I can see is what's in hidden menu. But I have the same thing that vader has.

I talked to eschelon, he says it's just because it's a world phone so there are settings that reflect this being a global phone.
however, he assured me that our messages are not going to china and they are going through vzw.
which is what i had thought from the get go, i just couldn't find anyone to confirm it. so i started to get worried.
so I guess false alarm

I guess whatever your mmsc server is set to under data (hidden menu) is where your text will go to.

Droid X Messaging App

Can we get this ported to the EVO?
Just the .apk would work, right? the DX's sms app looks so much better than any i've seen on any other phone. I'd love to have it.
give me some love, guys
+1 on this, but if im not mistaken this should go in the apps section
PM a Mod and ask them to move this to theming it'll get more attention there
+1 I can't stand the Sense mms app. Actually, I thought IncredibleDoes was developing a Droid X rom for the EVO and Incredible...
well it's been moved and other people are in agreeance, but it seems XDA isn't ever too keen to help someone out
I would like to see this as well since Handcent does not work well anymore on the EVO, its very very slow n it lags.

First of all, XDA doesn't do anything. That is simply the forum. It's the developers, many of them with jobs, kids and other responsibilities, that give up their time to help you. So at ease.
Secondly, if you had taken the time to do some googling, instead of posting a new whine every couple hours, you MIGHT have found: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/04/15/download-new-mms-apk-with-custom-settings/
EDIT1: Also, with a little more digging, i found the original APK from the droid x. http://rapidshare.com/files/431493880/Mms.zip
Anyone using this also getting fc when trying to change the font size ?
I was looking for this this morning. Well either this or the Vibrant/Galaxy S one. They're both similar. The Sense mms.apk is actually really good, it's just super slow.
For now I'm using Handcent with squared off chat bubbles and the Hero theme:

Are u experiencing any lag with handcent?? Like when the message is received it takes like 5-10 seconds longer till the phone notifys me even tho im viewing the message thro the quick reply screen.
Everything seems normal. But there are some things you have to change. In send settings, you have to tell it to split messages or ones longer than one text wont go through. Set it to "split by word" for the best results.
Also, disable the lockscreen popup if you have the stock sense loclscreen since it wont work and will wakelock your phone. And lastly, disable the lockscreen from turning on your screen so it doesn't turn on in your pocket.

I think i may have figured out part of the problem but not the whole problem. I had Blur background checked off which slows down pop up performance, so that might fix some of it hopefully.

Is this possible on the DX? For those who don't know what I'm talking about:

There's a screenshot of something similar.
Basically, toggles in your shade instead of the carrier name.

Awesome man, that's perfect. Now I just have to figure out how to get rid of the carrier label altogether . Any ideas? BTW, how'd you change your font?
I use the liberty 1.5 rom, it has a bunch of options for fonts and lets you change the carrier name out to whatever you want. So far its been very stable for me and much quicker than stock.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah, I saw the font options, but I'm not sure what adding a font does.. for instance, what'd you do in the toolbox that sets the widget font?
And I'm not talking about changing the text, I'd like to find a way to remove that whole bar, 'cause it just takes up space. I think you can do it in stock.. it's called a "roaming banner" i think
Changing the font effects all the text, everything from Widgets to menus to even the text on most websites in the default browser. It even changed the font in my clock widget. As far as removing the carrier label on the notifications I'm not sure how to remove that waste of space. I never looked into it but now since you mentioned it it's bugging me too. Let me know if you do find a way to remove it.

You long press on the home screen and select add widget like you would when adding a widget to the home screen, select widgetsoid then select a switcher widget. Pick the options you want it to have then go to the advanced tab and select both notification and make invisable. Click apply and it should now show up in the notifications bar. If you want to edit it just open widgetsroid and it will be in the widget tab. Hope this helps.

You can remove it with a metamorph, if you edit the xml in /layout/status_bar_expanded.xml I'm trying to put one together to do this. Right now I've managed to remove the grey area, only thing missing is moving the "clear" button some place else.

There are custom ROMs that have this feature. This is the only app I know that will actually do this.

Have you been able to figure out a way to move or resize the clear button yet? I really wish I could move it to the bottom of the notification bar. Better yet, I wish there was an app/widget that automatically cleared all new notifications. Been looking for something like that for months without any luck...

Exceptional ROM. I've noticed a "Hot Reboot" option when long-pressing the power button, I'm not familiar with it. What does it do apart from convert your phone to a ticking time-bomb?
Sorry to be that guy to ask for features, but do you guys think you could implement a Mobile Data On/Off switch in the Notification Bar widget thing, also a screenshot taker would be wonderful. Once again, sorry.

[Q] Why do I need my stock text message app installed to receive picture mail?

Why do I need my stock text message app installed to receive picture mail?
I can send picture mail fine, but receiving them is a problem when the stock app is not installed. I dont understand this. I use GoSMS instead of stock, so I used titanium backup to uninstall the stock one. After having a problem receiving picture mail for a while i decided to reinstall and yes that was the problem.
Has anyone had this issue/know why its like this/know how i can have the stock app uninstalled without the receiving issue?
Thanks guys.
I'm probably wrong but I'm guessing it's something to do with the WAP push message thing added to GoSMS, if I just leave the old version I use when flashing I receive pics with just GoSMS perfectly fine but it could be coincidental?
You could test and see if it works for you too, this is the last version I updated until I started getting issues

[APP][WIP] MMS 4.2 (Beta) - 5MB Photos, Group Messaging

Ok, so here's the deal. I've been tinkering with the MMS 4.2 app because it has group messaging (ala iPhone). A couple problems have come up and I've been able to fix one of them. The version posted here allows for 5MB photos up to 1900x1020 size, the standard app resizes images to 480x640.
Anyway, the main problem I'm having now is with the layouts. See images below. There's a lot of overlap in the view and I honestly cannot figure out how to fix the XML. That's where you come in ...
I'm looking for someone to help me fix the XML so the layouts look nice and clean. You can either download the apk and decompile it, or I can send you all the XML in the layouts directory to help.
Anyone up for it? I would certainly appreciate it
In this one, you can see that the image overlaps the content box and text.

In this, a group thread, the messages overlap the "Me:" which I cannot seem to get rid of.
Overall, I think it's a vertical size problem on attachments and placement of the message payload.
Oh, here's the zip ...
Download: http://tinyw.in/N9oB
MD5: 746d9b2020b8bf6d996f8e5f48e78c9d
So far, I've been able to figure out that the layout issue is in the MMS format. It impacts group messaging (because that uses MMS) and any other MMS message.
What I also noticed is that only when you send an mms you get the Me: in the upper right of your message. You also get the senders name in their message (even if you have show contact names off). WHen you turn contact names on, the name is displayed twice with two different fonts.
My guess is that the permanent one needs to be yanked out and maybe the overlap will sort itself out. Just need to find it ...
I've moved on to trying to build from source so I can fix it properly ...
Running the build and I'm getting the following error. Anyone have any ideas?
Code:
[email protected]:~/cm10/packages/apps$ mmm Mms

Looking good CvD! Hope you get it working! I'd love to not have to use Go Sms just so I can get group texting...
Sidetracked... AGAIN!
Setting up 10.1 now, which will actually make thus easier for me anyway.
Also, it does work. There's just annoyances in the ui for MMS

I'll take a look at this when I get to work on Monday and see if I can contribute.

That should be working. I'm having a hard time finding the source for this specific version though, so I honestly haven't messed with it much.
I tried group messaging. Didn't work. When they replied it came as an individual person

Hmmmm ... the inbound grouping works, just not the outbound. That sucks.

The outbound works... its the inbound that comes individually instead of staying in the group thread... sooooooo close!!
