Maybe an obvious question, but if I plug the dock in to the charger and the tablet isn't docked, will the dock charge?
I can see a common use case would be to leave the dock on the charger and just use the tablet most of the time, and then if my tablet's battery runs low go grab the dock. Will that work?
i cant say for sure, but i'd assume there would be the same connector in the dock for charging ti all at once, or just the dock.

I saw in one of the video reviews that when they are all connected the tablet will be charged first, then the dock. Also another option is if your tablet is running low, you can connect it to the fully charged dock and that will charge the batteries on the tablet.
Hope this helps,

How does charging work? Can/Do you charge with both the dock and tablet connected?
I assume the charge port for the dock is located on the side? (I can't stand the fact that the tablet charge port is on the bottom thus making it difficult to put on charge and still use it because you can't stand it up...) :silly:
Assuming you keep your dock and tablet connected, how do they fold up?
-As in, is it secure in not making the connection fragile or in danger of breaking?
Obviously I currently only have the tablet BUT am watching the prices on the dock and considering purchasing one eventually.
Thanks.

The connector on the bottom of the table hooks into the port, while the dock charging port is on the left side of the dock. Opening and closing does not affect the charging connection whatsoever.
When the dock is connected by itself, it charges itself.
When the dock is *not* connected and the tablet is docked, the tablet will discharge down to 70%, then begin charging from the dock battery until it reaches 90%.
When the dock is connected with the table docked, both will charge.
I hope this helps.

The charging port is on the left-hand side. You can charge your tablet directly on the bottom, or plug it into the dock and charge it on the side.
The way charging works, is the dock has an interior battery that holds a charge. When you plug the tablet into the dock, the tablet will charge off of the docks' battery. So the dock will die before your tablets' battery is even taxed.
The dock/tablet fold up just like a regular laptop/netbook, in a much smaller and slimmer form factor. Its just like closing a book, honestly, and about the same size with half the weight.
Since the dock connector is on the side, closing the dock/tablet doesn't affect it charging.
Officemax has the dock for ~$100, just an FYI. I couldn't get a price match at Best Buy because we don't have an OfficeMax near where I live.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the great replies! WoW, OfficeMax on sale, eh?
That is exactly how I got my TF300T with a price match from "Best Buy" which is right up the road from Office Max in my situation. Picked up the tablet for $350 at the time :highfive:

Seems the sale was so popular they sold out of stock and ended it early. But I saw the dock for $100 about a week after I bought my tablet (so the 20th of June or so) and that's when I saw that price. But since it was so cheap, everyone and their moms' bought one. Sucks you missed out
Any updates on where to purchase the TF300T Dock for around $100 or the best price going at the moment? :fingers-crossed:
Ok, new TF700T user here, coming from a TF101. I'm trying to figure out how charging works between the dock and the tablet. With my TF101 it was obvious..when the tablet was docked, it was kept at 100% charge by the dock. Simple. Now, with the TF700T and dock, I see that I have two icons on the bottom showing the charge of each. Nice. But, the charge on my tablet keeps dropping. My dock is at 99% and the tablet is at 90%. Why isn't the dock charging the tablet? What's it waiting for?
I HAVE seen the dock charge the tablet before, I just cannot for the life of me figure out what triggers it. Can anyone explain how it works with the TF700T? Does the tablet have to drop below some % before the dock kicks in or what? Or..do I have a defective dock?
Note that when I plug the charger into the dock + tablet, both batteries charge fine.
The dock is a TF700T dock mislabeled as a TF201 dock, but confirmed to be a 700 by Asus themselves.

Sorry not an answer, but a supplementary. I have the same query and I also wonder why if I plug in the dock the total time available on the battery doesn't change, should it?? Overall what battery time should I expect +/- if I have both connected??

I am strongly suspecting that there is a bug in the software related to the dock charging the tablet. A quick and easy way to trigger the charging process is to simply reboot the dock + tablet combo, not plugged in to the wall...when it comes back up, BING! it starts charging the tablet. My tablet was down to 70% with the dock at 99% and there was absolutely no charging going on until I rebooted the dock + tablet.
My current theory is that something gets fubared when you plug the charging cable back into the dock + tablet combo..when you unplug it, it appears the dock won't ever charge the tablet. I need to test this further when I get home from work.
Ok now I am certain that the dock charging is not working right on the TF700T.
The "reboot" trick does work, causing the dock to charge the tablet...but only to 90%. Once it hits 90%, the charging stops.
Is there some way we can submit "bugs" to Asus? Will they even listen? I'd love to know if other TF700 owners who have the dock are seeing this.

The dock does not charge the tablet before the tab battery is down to about 70%, that is the fact for my TF201 and TF700 and according to what I've read that is the way it's supposed to be (apparantly better for the battery than the TF101 setup).
I don't think your reboot did the trick, I think it would have charged anyways. But I'm not telling you for sure, just saying I think that is the way it's supposed to be (and is for me).
Actually, then the reboot did do the trick - b/c the reboot process consumed enough battery to drop it down under the 70% margin so the dock --> tablet charging process would kick in.
I'll test that and see.
The TF 201 manual states that the tablet will go down to 70% before dock charging kicks in and rechgarges it back to about 99% and then it will stop, go back down and keep doing this, in this way it keeps the tablet charged, the dock dorps to zero at the same time that the tablet gets charged to 80, then the tablet has a nearly full charge for you to use.
And I am drunk, sorry for the typos.
Yeah, your reboot only worked because the tablet's battery fell below the threshold anyway. It charges the tablet at 70% back up to the 90s, then stops, charges again from 70-90%, stops, etc. Your battery usage ends up having spikes, looking like:
_____|\______|\_________ <-- Dock discharges to 0% here
\___
\ <-- Tablets main battery hits 0%
Edit: Formatting got messed up, but I think you'll be able to figure it out

Haha! That's how it's supposed to look! Choo-choo!
I got a brand new TF700 (the label said 201 but also said compatible with TF700t) dock yesterday, but I cannot get it to work:
- out of the box, after i connect the charger, the charger light on the dock gwas orange
- so i dock the pad, but turn off the pad, and let it charge
- 5+ hours later, the charger light on the dock becomes green
- i turned on the pad, sure enough, it said dock is connected, but
- I see no mouse pointer, the touchpad is not working
- i can type using the dock's keyboard
- plugging an USB drive into the dock did nothing
- it said the dock is at 100% battery and so is the pad
I then remove the charger cable, but then the keyboard on the dock stops working, the battery gui said dock is now at 0%
as soon as i hook the charger cable back, the dock keyboard works again, the battery gui said dock is now at 98% etc
have i done anything wrong, or is it simply a bad dock?
I have since exchange it with a new dock, but have not tried it yet.

That could be because the touchpad was turned off.

I did tried pressing on/off the touchpad button (upper 4th or 5th key on the right), the indicator did appear, but still no mouse.

Probably, I was just a bit shock that it was so bad since it is brand new, or unless somehow I didn't charge it long enough.

If the light goes green, it should be fully charged. If disconnecting the charger drops the battery indicator immediately to 0%, something is wrong.
(maybe they just forgot to even install a battery in your dock :cyclops
Sounds like a rather faulty battery. Most laptops do this, too, if the battery has checked in to the electronic graveyard hotel.
As for the track pad, top row, forth button from the left. Has the icon of a track pad on it. That turns it off and on.
I did exchange a brand new dock and got it working. In this unit I saw
I did noticed that if I tilt the pad at an angle too much (from 90 degree to 80 degree) it would have similar issues (ie, battery gui for keyboard shows 0%, keyboard wont work and mouse disappear), so it seems the connector to the dock wasn't touching. But if I stay within 80-90 degree tile everything works fine.

Hmm..odd. I have a TF700 and a TF201 original dock and have had zero issues. Maybe the connection on your actual tab is shotty?
I've purchased a TF300TG for a month and the package came with both the tablet and the keyboard dock. Initially I did not use the dock as I did not require that much of battery life, but recently I've started to use the tablet connected with the keyboard dock.
The thing that I'm uncertain of is which is faster:
1. charging both the tablet and the keyboard dock separately
2. charging keyboard dock with the tablet connected

Well charging them together is recommended, if you own two charging bricks like i do you can charge both the dock and tablet separately at the same time.

Sadly I only have one charging brick >< but if charging both of them together is recommended, then I would like to ask something related.
By charging both the tablet and the dock together to 100%, the dock will eventually be squeezed dry by the tablet to 0% while the tablet itself still have plenty of juice left. Do I charge when the tablet notify to charge due to low battery (~14%).
As I read through several forums which stated that letting the battery die completely is not a good practice, is the following method of charging a good method:
1. Charge tablet with dock together to 100%.
2. Disconnect the dock when the dock battery reaches below 15%.
3. Repeat until both the tablet and dock reaches below 15%.
