CM9 non-kexec - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Does anyone know if there is a non-kexec cm9 port available? Or can i flash the the old version with a new kernal? I have been searching, but it seems that all the focus is on JB. I want to run a stable vanilla build while the kinks get worked out in cm10. Thanks much.

I am actually curious here. What does CM9/ICS have that the CM10/JB builds don't? I obviously jumped right to JB because I could but is CM9 worth the step back?
Anyway, I think there is a way to remove kexec. I don't have time to search for it right now, but I will try to remember to pop back to this thread tonight and see if anyone else hasn't helped you yet.

CM9 doesn't have any features that CM10 doesn't. I am just looking for a stable daily driver. I tried CM10, and there are a few bugs that are deal breakers for me. I understand CM9 has a stable release, I just can't find anyone that has ported it to the vzw gs3. Thanks for your help, if you come across anything I'd be grateful. I'll keep searching and post if I find any worthy info.

You know, ive been thinking the same thing. Ever since I got my original droid, ive been hooked on CM. Amazingly fast and vanilla. Now that I got rid of my iPhone and got the GS3 for Verizon, I want that goodness back without the nightly status. Jellybean isnt a big deal to me. Im not commiting to CM10 nigthlys till its at least in RC status. But i do however want CM9 stable for the GS3

I'm on offical JB AOKP test build 6. Loving it. Been rocking it for about 5 days without any issues.
I am very particular about bugs too because i use my phone for work so much and can't deal with issues.
You might give it a go.

[Q] Is it wise to wait for stable cyanogen mod

Hi,
I've searched but I didn't find this.
I've read that some phones never get a full "stable" release of cyanogen. I am currently running masters voodoo rooted rom but I quite fancy CM. Does it look like there will be a stable version, and does anyone have any idea how far in the future that might be.
Or is the current RC solid as a rock right now, or does it have bugs.
Thanks
Nexus S is a CM officially supported phone, it will certainly get CM7 final. I've been running CM7 RC1 since the day after I got my phone a bit more than a week ago, so far it works quite well and stable.

Thanks for your reply. I'll hang on then. I'd prefer to get the stable version. Any idea how long they think it will take. I've been on cm forum googling, but not getting anywhere.

Rule 1 of CM: Don't ask for ETAs.
Build #11 and above of nightlies are based on Android 2.3.3.
#12 probably seems the most stable. I'm using #13 and its fine for me although people have reported problems.
If you want pure stableness, it'd be RC1 but it is on 2.3.2

RC1 is just a nightly that was the line where they thought it was stable enough to promote. I don't think it's any more or less stable than any other nightly.

I had a lot of problems with CM7, but I was running Honity, as well. My experience was one of instability. I switched over to Axura and like it a lot.

Just out of curiousity, what didn't you like about Axura?
On a more related note, as a flashaholic I've flashed every ROM available for the Nexus S and CM7 is the one I use as my Daily Driver. I'm on RC2 and can't remember the last time I had a random reboot. The other ROMs I have NANDroids of to be able to go between are Stock 2.3.3, Axura, and MIUI (I'm waiting for it to become a little more fleshed out before I really give it a go as a daily driver).

Did you try flashing a different font or using font changer for root on the market? If that was really your only complaint you can very easily change such things.

Choppy CM10 a2 kernel

Can't post this in the development section as a response so I will post it here. Does the new InstigatorX 6.1 kernel work on TeamChopsticks CM10 8/12 a2 ROM? YES!!! Everything works great. Camera, video and landscape work also. Only issue is I get FC's using Facebook sometimes but that is minor for me. Used CWM 6xx to flash. Flashed rom, gapps 7/29 and kernel flawlessly. As always, thanks to everyone involved for making our phones much more enjoyable! Enjoy!

Calling and texting also work good. No issues yet. Still an alpha so you may have issues with other programs. Chances are that we don't have the same stuff. Only thing is overall phone volume has been low since I first flashed CM9 two months ago. Easy fix was downloading a volume boost app.

r4ins is going to keep up with the AOKP Jellybean project since armyvet is not, and gmillz will also probably keep building on their ROM. I'm on the 8/5 with the 1a chopsticks base and InstigatorX 6.2 kernel. If you're experiencing a "choppy" feel, check out either the Darkside or InstigatorX kernel and pick a good frequency governor. That can help a lot. On any of these early ROM's you're going to still get FC's and reboots.. they're Alpha's. If avoiding that is the most important thing to you, I would stick to CM9, Chimera, SkyICS, or a similar ICS ROM.

stock android, cm9, cm10 info?

Hi all.
I am interested in running a vanilla ICS or JB rom on this phone, and CM9 or CM10 will also do. Where can I find information on builds for this phone? Cyanogenmod does not have it under their "supported" devices....
There is a whole forum containing what you are looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1726
Yes I am aware of that forum, but I posted here because it was a "question"...?
My confusion is that there seem to be a ton of forks from cm9/cm10 and I didnt know if there was one that was better than another, or how to go about weeding through them. Its just messy to try and figure out.

There are only 4 options? AOKP ICS, AOKP JB, CM9 and CM10. You can pretty much disregard all the other ones if you're looking for CM based roms. Also, we are officially supported by CM10...Though you should read that forum before downloading and flashing. Some of the unofficial fixes have not been merged yet.

CM10 is stable enough for a daily driver as long as you don't rely on your camera/video camera too much (though this may be fixed now, didn't test). However, with nightlies you're always risking flashing a broken build. That's just how the game is played on any device.

No such thing, as vanilla android is unaltered, i.e. the nexus devices.
I would say that cyanogen mod is probably as close as you'll get. Aokp is close too but has much more customization options.

There isn't one. Use cm10 and don't use the customization. Also you will not have the s3 features like motion controls, camera, etc.
You're best bet is to try a couple out and find what works for you.

I'm gonna work on building vanilla JB rom as soon as the semester ends......don't have enough time till then :\ Should be convenient timing as a lot of the leg-work is already complete
I've already started working on one, but its not looking very promising so far. Its really really difficult getting the build to cooperate, and then once I finally do get it to cooperate thenaybe it won't take too long to get some of the initial kinks ironed out so people can start testing. But at least if I cannot get the bugs worked out enough to post it for people to use there is someone else who will begin working on it shortly. So hopefully we will have a pure AOSP ROM soon, one way or another.

That's subjective. If there was one be all and end all least buggy and "best" ROM I imagine we all would be running it.
What I consider an issue may not be that big of a thing at all for you. Some phones play with each ROM a little differently as well and some bugs may affect yours that don't affect mine.
So you are already doing the best thing flashing and seeing what works best for you and with your phone. The OP of each ROM should tell you major issues affecting each: video not working, torch a little wonky, etc. So that will help you whittle it down a little. Other than that welcome to fun of flashing.

Right now I'm running the LiquidSmooth R8 ROM and anything that uses voice input crashes. This means JP Google Search is borked! Now is this just my issue? Would a re-flash fix it or is it a known issue? Inquiring minds wanna know....

I've never really used voice input, so Im not going to be the greatest help there. Reflashes do clear up some issues, wouldn't hurt. Maybe even a fresh download of the ROM. If you havent already try inquiring in that particular ROMs thread, to see if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. Good luck
Edit:
If its google search it may be your gapps, make sure you have the most current.

But yes i will definitely give it a shot.

The thing you have to remember about these JB roms on our Infuse is that we are still using a modded GB kernel. Samsung as far as I know (I could be wrong) hasn't released the kernel source code for our device and it's making it very hard for them to update the kernel. I use Scott's CM10 4.2.1 right now and it's basically been bug free. It doesn't even have all the CM source code merged into it yet. I've never had a rom with so much free memory before! I think it's amazing what he is doing with our old device and he deserves MAJOR props and donations for all his efforts!

Yeah its slim bean that I have personally built from source. I really have zero bugs and use it as my daily driver. I mean it has the same bugs as any jb ROM because we all compile from Scotts cm10 build. Its the exact same as CM 10 except with a TON of custom features! I'm currently working on a 4.2.1 version that looks to hopefully be my smoothest yet. Check it out and lemme know what you think
