Anyone else running into the issue that you cannot turn the wifi radio on? I read somewhere it might be related to not updating the "radio" but havent been able to find anything to download. Any insight would be great!
Also, anyone used the CyanogenMod 10 yet?? Just curious questions thanks!
This ought to be in the general section. You will likely get flamed for violating forum rules.
I will guess you are S-On. Flashing the boot.img in the correct order is important for the WiFi modules to be able to work with the kernel properly. With all respect give the flashing process a close look then reflash accordingly.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
No flaming but thread will be moved.

Honestly you should just search the CM9 thread first and post there. Your results will be much better
Looks like arghhh is slacking. Still has yet to clean up the fight that broke out in the very same thread
I'll be a Mod if XDA would let me. I'm on these forums all the time
But if your on A6, try flashing the A5 Kernel. It helped me out with the WiFi issues.

Is immediately driving the thread off topic against the rules?
OP - have you solved your problem? My guess is that you're S-On and you forgot to fastboot flash the boot.img
Unless the wifi drivers in the kernel and in the rom match, the wifi simply won't turn on. There are instructions on the CM9 post about how to copy the rom files out to flash separately, if you want to use the A5 kernel with A6 but it's probably gonna take some digging.
As for CM10 (XMC's VanillaBean) it's pretty stable, there are a few quirks that make it very irritating, at least to me, but I'm still using it because I like the Jellybean!
I would post a link to VanillaBean, but I can't. The link is in XMC's signature, go find a post by him and click it!

Very organized and helpful, thank you.
I updated the ROM section. I included a description of each ROM, put the most recent update date, updated the version numbers, and put them in order of newest to oldest.
I also put a backup section and included a how to on backing up your phone using Clockwork. It may need some further explanation but I provided the basics. I also updated the WiMax portion since it can now be done using Clockwork.

I didn't want to have to ask everyone for their permission haha. I figured they would add it if they wanted.
If I don't need their permission then I will... but I didn't want to break any rules.
I asked x99 if I could post his kernel...

Hehe...yeah...I realized that once I got in there and didn't see any of the latest ROMs I had been reading about. And people wonder why newcomers prefer to ask questions rather than just read a bunch of stickies.

Can anyone please post on this thread on how to install a Rom on a Samsung Infuse? I have downloaded the current ROM for it and do not know how to do it. I have found some directions on YouTube but to no avail. This would help others.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318160
And this belongs in the Questions section.
What ROMs are you referring to exactly? All custom ROMs are flashable through CWM recovery. The "official" gingerbread leaks from przekret are only flashable through Odin or Heimdall. Directions for both of these methods already exists in infuse general and infuse q&a sections. I would suggest a google search with something like this:
Code:
site:xda-developers.com samsung infuse how to install ROM via Odin
It'll tell google to ONLY search xda-developers.com for your search term. The xda search sucks (IMO).
yo have to root the phone and have CWM instaled then you can flash what you want....and this is not a development question...please post in right section
I know but seemed like I wasnt getting a good response so I decided to quickly ask here.
I am referring to SGH-I997_I997UCKL2_UC_ATT.RAR
I promise I will remove soon and put in the correct section to help others with similar question.
I do not have rooted phone so I downloaded the ROM that was non-rooted

If that is the leak from prezkret thread, you'll need to extract the rar and there should be a tar.md5 in there (if memory serves). You will need to use Odin to flash this on your device so being rooted is not necessary. Put your phone into download mode, connect it to your pc, fire up odin and put the tar.md5 that is within this rar into the pda slot. That's all you'll need to do.
there is a tar.md5 this really helps. thankyou

So, because you were impatient, you felt a need to break the rules of this forum and post in a section you are explicitly not suppost to post new threads in unless the thread is for something YOU have created?
What makes you think you are so special and are allowed to break the rules?
Also, I just looked through your posting history - you didn't even TRY to post in Q&A.

@OP - Did you get it figured out?
The CM9 build that is in my skyrocket is not working like it's supposed to be.
It has this build number: NexusMod ICS Zero Build 2 Rev. 12
The problems is, that usb mass storage is not working, sometimes the device crash, with some apps it also crash.
Can someone tell me if I can make and update to a better version of CM9?
And yes... i'm new with all this stuff, but i learn quick.
By the way I'm from Mexico, so my english will be not so good sometimes...
Thanks guys!

CM9 ≠ NexusMod. Let you start with that... If you want CM9, flash CM9. Might be some weird errors from a bad flash or possibly an old version of NexusMod. So start over and flash CM9 if that's what you want.

Do you mean just gb roms, or any ROM? For gb,barebones is pretty good. Four mtd,cm7. And for ics,cm9 is pretty stable overall
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Try the new ROMs and decide.
CM9/AOKP/MIUI are all ICS based and have more options and customizations.
Just don't expect wifi-calling support, an amazing battery life or OC/UV, they are all WIP.
Lots....Valhalla black is Valhalla final with a darker theme and ALOT less bloat, also there are several ics based roms now noted above that are very nice
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
If you wamt to stay on GB, for stockish I recommend Barebone with Antons latest kernel and for customization Valhalla Black from FB. You can try Raver's version but FB modded it a little further.
If you want a real change then ICS, I have only tried AOKP but I guess the others are great too.
Try everything and then decide.
In my opinion, SCOM is the best rom on GB. It's super fast, good battery life, easy to customize. Pair it with Anxton kernel you will have a perfect device. And on ICS, I have tried AOKP and RemICS UX, they are both great, but AOKP is more stable, almost fully functional. GPS on RemICS is broken for now.

Thank u guys everyone who helped.. for all of those roms all I basically have to do is flash it in recovery right?
You need to read the first two to three threads in the ROM you wish to flash and follow directions accordingly.
GB ROMs, fastest way from stock is to flash AntonX Kernel using Heimdal one-click installer, then go from there.
ICS ROMs generally can go right from GB using CWM if they are a CWM recovery ROM. Up until recently, TWRP recovery ROMs (AOKP, in particular, may be others) were a little more robust flashing CM9, letting CWM convert to MTD partitioning, then flashing AOKP.
Getting from MTD partitioning (ICS) back to GB you have to reflash stock-ish using Heimdal or Odin. There is a Heimdal one-click for "stock" that I find about the easiest way to accomplish that.
As always, trust the ROM author's instructions over most anything you read in this post or elsewhere.

The problem is most threads don't really contain clear and concise directions on how to flash a ROM. Most say.. "Make sure you already have blah blah flashed". But what if you have no idea ? I'm an ERD and had to READ way too many thread to learn how to flash this device, I can only image the hell a noob would go through just to flash a custom ROM. I think we need a comprehensive guide that can stickied in the development forum.
Read the first and second link of my signature and tell how much more comprehensive you need. And Alex has flashed a custom ROM.
When I was new, I didn't understand the process either. The smart guys here pointed me in the right direction, though. After gaining an understanding of the terminology, every thread's instructions were a breeze to follow.

Yeah but these GUIDE aren't doing anybody any favors sitting in the "General" section. Methinks I'm gonna make some links to those guides and stick them at the top of the development forum.
We should really be getting a lot of this stuff into the wiki though. The people in Team Acid have done our share of getting information in there but only a few other people have contributed to expanding our guides in there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V
I honestly think it's a better solution than adding stickies to threads that might get abandoned, then we have the same clutter that just got cleaned up recently.

I agree with this. It's obvious that MAYBE 1 out of 10 newcommers might read the stickies that have been placed there just for them. They just jump right into posting threads with questions that have been covered a hundred times in many other threads. I doubt they would take the time to check the wiki, either. Also, it's obvious that many people don't read the entire OP's of the ROMS they are flashing. They just get straight to asking questions in DEV threads that are clearly marked with "no questions without logs, please ask questions in Q&A", even when they are told in every other post that their question might get more answers in the QA thread. Because of this, the devs have clearly justified frustration.

Haha... just looked at your profile. I'm on the app and didn't see before. Nice to see you around.
Well the reason I support the wiki approach is to do what I've been doing. Any time anyone asks something in the AOKP thread that I've already written about in the AOKP wiki FAQ I just link them to the specific answer. I've seen other people doing the same and I'm sure they're relieved that they don't have to repeat themselves all the time. Finding information for US is easier than looking for the specific thread.
If it's making MY job easier I'm all for it. I don't really care if the news/noobs aren't gonna read, since as you mentioned they're not gonna do it either way.
Yep! Well, is there any way I can contribute or help with your wiki? It's the least I can do for you providing me with such an awesome ROM.
Well you can add the the FAQ's anytime you see anything that's gotten asked quite a few times, just make sure you provide a reliable answer that won't cause users more problems. We need good solutions in there
ok i had orthous 5 on my skyrocket, then i upgraded to 6 just now. dont see any difference except i lost the facial recognition in the security feature. is it just not in there anymore or do i need to reinstall

There lies your problem. Look for the Orthus thread in general started by garydv2002. Usually Gary or mindmajick can help you with any problems you run into. As long as you don't start bashing the dev or rom for one small issue, you'll find an answer to your problem in no time.
