You need SuperCID first, then go to HTC dev

Err, what version of the phone do you have?
If its anything but AT&T, you can get the bootloader unlocked without SuperCID. Then just install custom recovery and install SuperSU from recovery.
If its an AT&T branded version, what firmware number are you on (1.73, 1.85, 2.20, etc.)?

i thought "write MID not supported" means that you are on 2.20 and this means that it cant be unlocked? (well at least not yet )

I have LOCKED bootloader
And Software 1.85.502.3 710RD

Which root method are you using? Please link to it, so we can confirm you are using the right one.
Even if using the correct one, the correct 1.85 method sometimes takes multiple attempts for some people.

Guys I think he's in the wrong forum check this post by him unles he just got another phone this was just posted on 8-19 in the one v forum

I am coming from an HTC Sensation that I ran many custom roms. It is set up now with Elegancia Pegasus. That is due to turn in as I am no longer with T-Mobile.
I am rooted. I have Busy Box Pro, Rom Toolbox Pro and SuperSu saying I do. Is there another check to make sure I am rooted. I got the Error 160 Message from HTC on the bootloader unlock.
Please advise.

Yes you can download terminal emulator from the market. Open it up and type "Su" without quotation mark. If a pop-up window shows up ask for root permission then you are rooted. If not then you're not.

[Guide] Root Official ICS ROM HBoot 1.27.000 Easely without S-Off

Good day my dear friends,
Boring Intro------
Yesterday I was trying to root my wife's HTC Sensation which I upgraded to Official Middle East ICS 4.0.3 hboot 1.27.000 and I found this way by pure luck-----
I installed CMW and did the rooting while the device is S-ON
I'm not sure if this is a new method or was done before but I thought I'd share it to return some of your favors in this great forum.
I need to thank Mr.hasoon2000 because we will use his tol from the HTC One X forum.
Requirements:
1. Download the HTC One X All-In-One Toolkit V1.0 from this link, Thanks Mr.hasoon2000 I hope you don't mind me using your tool here.
2. Download the latest CMW recovery , choose the latest for Pyramid (The Sensation) in *.img. Here is the CMW 5.8.0.9 link.
3. Download SuperSU 0.88.zip, thanks Mr.Chainfire or from this link [23.04.2012] SuperSU v0.88.
Step By Step Method:
1. Copy the SupperSU.zip file to your SD root.
2. Extract the HTC One X All-In-One Toolkit V1.0 to the Disktop.
3. Connect your Mobile and make sure you're in the charging mood and your check USB development or debugging option.
4. Run the One X.exe application.
5. Install the HTC drivers.
****If you unlocked your Sensation's bootloader from HTCdev.com then skip step 6 ****
6. Register in HTCdev.com website, choose Unlock Bootloader, choose your device and follow the instructions. ~This May Void your Warranty~
7. Rename the CWM recovery to CWM5827, then copy it to HTC One X All-In-One Toolkit folder/Data folder/recoveries and replace the one inside.
8. Flush the CWM recovery using the toolkit, horray you installed CWM.
9. From Commands choose Boot into recovery and from CWM flush the SuperSU.zip.
10. Congratulations, You're Now ROOTED .
Note: Sorry for My Bad English.
I would like to confirm the information above. Just rooted an unlocked EU version of Sensation XE running the 4.0.3 and hboot 1.27.000. Everything worked as supposed.
Kudos TheSnakeX!
This is how u do it on every Hboot. OLD news
And u dont have to use that ONE X tool.
Just HTCDEV unlock your phone (this whill void your waranty)
Download CWR in PG58IMG.zip
Extract the recovery.img from PG58IMG.zip
open command propt and do a "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Reboot your phone in recovery and flash SU
Done your root
I would thank all of you for your thanks and replays
I want to remind you that I said that I'm not sure if this was old news or new, but I can see that people are benefiting from this method.
One X toolkit is to maake everything easier. Every command is one click away.

just a question:choosing unlock bootloader from htc dev,I lost my warranty? Thanks
Not entirely. The HTC's disclaimer is interpretable. At least this is my take on that: if unlocking the bootloader you mess up your phone by overclocking it, they will make you pay for any repair. But if - let say- some buttons begin to malfunction they will repair under warranty because that would be manufacturing flaw. This will change of course ASAP someone will come with some straightforward noobproof method to undo the unlocking ;o)
My device just verified that my sensation has been rooted. Thank you, it's working on hboot 1.27.000
Htc Sensation Vodafone Turkey
Now ICS with S-On it only way for S-OFF and Root must be first is unlocked boot loader by office HTC_Dev so you may lost your warranty. Is it correct ?
Unlocking the bootloader might void your warranty.
Yet, I bricked my sensation long time ago, it was rooted and S-off. And when I took it to HTC care they replaced the motherboard on the warranty, which means that if they discover that it was unlocked (soft brick) they will not repair it otherwise they will.
If for example there was some other problem in your phone, and you still can log into your bootloader, then I think using the same method from HTCdev, you can relock your bootloader and reflush the RUU package.
For now we can root RUU ICS roms while S-ON using this method. To make it S-Off you need to see this thread [S-OFF] Juopunutbear S-OFF by Mr.globatron
Congradulationd on this thread making the XDA Portal

This error occurs if you had your mainboard replaced by HTC. It causes an IMEI <-> SN missmatch or something similar.
They are working on a solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1616836

HTCdev Unlock bootloader
HI,
I wonder if someone can give me confirmation for peace of mind..
I was reading through the small prints in the htc unlocker, and it says that all personal data and installed softwares will be erased to protect personal data by carring out the unlock procedure.
The very reason I wanted to root the phone was so that I could install clockworks and the likes that allow me to do full backup of the phone (and remove bloatware), and those software's requirement are that I am rooted.
IN order to root, I will lose everything installed on my phone? What about apps i have purchased through the market?
Does my google account somehow remember that I have purchased it before, and allow me to download the same apps again without charge?
Or is it that the unlocking procedure does not mess with my installed apps and all personal data?
I hope it is the latter, otherwise it means that people are going ahead with unlocks at the cost of hassle incurred from setting up your phone again....
Someone have simple answer?
Thanks
Finally found a way to get rooted, thank you very much!
Great Job and credits to all who helped get this to work.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Now rooted thanks to you!!!!
Many thanks
Can you install custom roms after applying this method?

Don't thank me. Thank DesignGears for creating this awesome tool. And, of course you'll want to thank grankin101 for finding out how to spoof the CID.
Linux Version by JeepFreak
Here's a linux script to get SuperCID. It's fully automated, but only does SuperCID, no unlocking!
http://www.slicky.net/code/onexl/SuperCID-OneXL.tar.gz
Dowload SuperCID-OneXL.tar.gz
Extract the file
Open a terminal window in the directory it creates
Type: chmod +x supercid.sh
Press enter.
Type: ./supercid.sh
And you're done!
This works with Rogers and AT&T.

great jobs guys. does anyone know if we can flash stock after unlocking att one x bootloader?
by this i mean stock, without having the tampered or other indicators ?
or now that we have unlock + cwm, will we use a new resource?
wanted to confirm it worked, and i now have an unlocked bootloader =)
Worked perfect! Thank you!
also should probably add to the op that this will wipe your phone (doesnt remove root though)
(it wont wipe the sd card but all my apps and text and such are gone)

If I unlocked my bootloader on 1.73, can I upgrade to 1.82 afterwards without any issues?
So I've been testing a lot of stuff on my phone and did the manual unlock earlier but from all the testing my phone started to feel laggy so I decided to run the RUU. Now I tried to manually unlock and used this tool to unlock and it brings up the screen on the phone asking if I want to unlock and I select yes. But when I boot back into the bootloader it still says relocked. I've tried using the original token and a new one but it still won't unlock again???????

what about if I used the manual unlock method? Could I still update to 1.82? Does it retain the root and unlock or will I have to do all that over again?
Tools worked perfectly!
Now I am on 1.73 Rooted + Unlocked + CWM
I would love to fix my multitasking issue, and I heard that 1.85 runs great. I guess hopefully a custom ROM will fix my problems. Also running 1.85 will not be a bad idea but don't wanna lose Root, or the unlocked bootloader and CWM.
I am new to Android so I m still learning.

Code:

adb reboot bootloader>NUL 2>&1
ECHO.
ECHO Once you are in bootloader mode, press any key to dump the cid and unlock token.
PAUSE

ECHO.
fastboot oem readcid

ECHO Your CID should read; 11111111
ECHO If it doesn't, something went wrong!
ECHO.
ECHO Goto HTCDev.com to finish the unlock process with the code above.
ECHO After you get your unlock file, drop it into the same folder as this script.
ECHO.
ECHO Press and key and then follow the instructions on the phone.
ECHO.
PAUSE

fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

Edit: I already unlocked using ADB,.,, used this on a friends device works great by the way, thanks for the quick script.

A good rule to live by when working with ROMs, unlock, rooting, etc. is that EVERYTHING will wipe your phone. Always make a backup of all your important stuff before trying anything.

[SOLVED!!] Customer ID Error on RUU

So my ATT One X is soft bricked and when I run RUU_Evita_UL_Cingular_US-1.82.502 It gives me the customer ID error.
I rooted, unlocked bootloader, and flashed CMR, but it is now no longer rooted and the bootloader is relocked.
I did modify the CID to "11111111" to unlock the bootloader, but without me being rooted I am unable to put the original "mmcblk0p4" back on (idk if that even matters.) I have no backups and absolutely everything is erased.
I did flash the stock recovery img file, but I don't know if it was relevant to international One X or if there is one specifically for ATT One X.
I guess a fix would be making a goldcard, without an sd card somehow....
Thanks for the Help.
Never seen that error before. Have you tried running the 1.85 RUU? I have RUU'd multiple times while still having the SuperCID so I don't think that's the issue.

Are in Canada? That would mean u need to use the rogers ruu, not the evita. Or, are u positive u changed your cid to 11111111 and not ROGER001. There were tutorials in the beginning doing this before supercid 11111111 was found. But customer I'd means either, rogers or evita typically. Evita ruu won't work on rogers and vice versa:thumbup:

No. I'm in US on ATT network. And yes I did change the CID to 11111111 because I used that method to unlock my bootloader.
I've tried several RUUs for my phone and still get same error. If I were to verify I had changed the CID I would have to be rooted.
Is it possible to root a soft-bricked device????
What's the error number?
Depending on what it is, there are different fixes.
if you can still do fastboot commands I'd unlock the bootloader again then push the twrp with USB support.
Once you do that you can flash the rom of your choice by copying it to your phone from TWRP.

You need to use TWRP, not CWM. CWM for this phone is an unofficial, unsupported port, and has caused a lot of problems for people.

Can you reboot to recovery? Have you flashed superuser?
unlocking the bootloader won't give you root. you need to flash supersu.zip through recovery ( after installing TWRP recovery ) ( or ) install custom pre-rooted ROMS to get root.

Noooooooo. Do not use ROM manager. It does not work on the One XL. You have to flash superuser.zip from recovery.

Goomanager requires root. The first time you unlock, you have to flash it via adb.
Download the file from kancherlapraneeth post
then "Turn off your device. Turn on the device and keep holding volume down until a menu shows up. Select fasboot from the menu list. Plug the device into your computer. If you have the right drivers installed, your screen should now say FASTBOOT USB. Run the following command via the command line:
fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img
Note that you will need to change the last part to match the name of the file that you just downloaded. This method requires that you have the drivers installed that come with the HTC Sync software that are available here. " (From twrp site)

save the file in the same directory where fastboot file exists.
Using cmd prompt - navigate to that directory using cd command. issue below command
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-evita.img

NOTE:
-It might say root failed or something, just run the app again and install SuperSU from playstore
-This root is temporary, every time you reboot, the device will automatically reroot
-Tested on ATT variant
-Not sure if recovery or installing roms will work
-Not responsible for anything that happens to your device
ENJOY!

If this is indeed confirmed to be working by some others, you might want to change the title to "at&t One X 5.18 Root Method". All other variants of the Evita are able to be rooted via traditional means, and have been the whole time, only the at&t variant hadn't been able to.

Sure. But in downloaded zip spoofpartitions/mmcblk0p4MOD has cid 11111111 and in mmcblk0p5MOD (offset 00000010) 11111111. Steps are similar to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671396 where "8. Change CWS__001 to 11111111 and save the file as mmcblk0p4MOD. This will give you SuperCID as well". Am i wrong? Or there is another hex editing method?

My point was that you need root and SuperCID already. That method is to unlock your bootloader, and is really only for a specific firmware version. What is your end goal? What are you trying to do?

I dont know. Thought these "spoofpartitions" do the trick. So mmcblk0p5,6,13,26 not needed?
The problem is you're not paying attention to the details, the first pre-requisite is that you already have root and SuperCID, plus that exploit is specifically for a very early firmware. You need root to do that, and you can't get root until you've unlocked your bootloader, see where I'm going here? My suggestion is to try Weaksauce, and then see if hex editing your CID will work with the Weaksauce temp root. I believe this is your only option at the moment.

Ok. Hope someone can make this info helpful. Weaksause does work on evita ATT. I don't know what use having root to the xbin folder does for us. Please fill me in.
I did get Firewater to run by copying it to the folder /data/local/tmp. Using adb you can chmod 755 those folders and copy not push Firewater there and then run it. I get through 12 bottles then it fails. Perhaps if we knew what other folders needed more rights for firewater we could change them too.
Anyone know what firewater does?
I also tried the manual hex edit. Can't get my edited file to save to the needed location and can't change that locations rights with adb.
More ideas to try?

Did you meet all of firewaters prerequisites:? Including ADB reboot and having a working data connection?
Was fire water running in a root shell?
Sent from my HTC One VX using Tapatalk
Ok not all prereqs because it wanted you to push with adb but that did not work and yes a reboot but you have to chmod the folder before running firewater. WeakSauce is only temp root so after reboot the 755 rights to /data /data/local and /data/local/tmp have to be re-given. So you can not run firewater right away. Now the copy of firewater does stay in that location after a reboot so you don't have to recopy it.
Data connection was a yes. It wasn't the best connection but it had one at the time.
Firewater has a prereq of being rooted and unlocked boot loader so maybe that's the problem too.
All I want is to get my CID changed so I can get my bootloader unlocked.
I am hoping letting everyone know that there are other folders that permissions can be changed on (not just xbin) with using weaksuace; will maybe help someone figure away to get a full root so the CID file can be edited.
thanks, I will try that.
