I tried Casual for over an hour today. Would always see the phone and load the files fine. But once it rebooted to try to stick root the app would freeze everytime. Finally had to give up and come to work. I did get CWM to install properly though. I was wondering if there were any clockwork mod flashable zips to root me. I don't want to wait til morning to play with this phone. Got it yesterday and haven't had anytime to play with it yet. I know there used to be. Just not sure if any exist for ICS. If I cant do that ill try some other methods in the morning when i get home from work. Thanks for any help or comments

I used the alternative root method that was mentioned at the bottom of the rooting section in the guide. That was easy easier than casual for some reason

It's amazing we were supposed to so called have our gingerbread like 2 months ago, has anyone heard anything? Because I am trying hard not to have to root my Infuse, and I don't really have a way to root it either but it is so aggravating being on 2.2 still especially with such a great device.

AT&T never said an exact date officially, unless you go by what some customer service rep said on twitter. They only said it would be this year.

Just root it and flash serendipity or infused, or dlev, or any other gingerbread rom.
It's very simple.

+1 All you need to root is a comp, usb cable and your phone, rooting is quite literally one click (superoneclick)...unless you use HDMI religiously, the roms here are awesome gingerbread goodness even if unofficial.

dude, get the drivers from the samsung site, get heimdall 1.1, get visual c++ redistrobutable package and get the comunity kernel.
extract the kernel .zip and find the zimage
install the drivers
open heimdall
put the zimage in the kernel slot
put the phone in download mode and connect to usb
hit the flash button in heimdall
pretty easy

To make things easier on yourself, you should really find a comp, google "Superoneclick Infuse" and it should pop up step by step install instructions. (download link included)
Still, with the root/flash options, I too would like the official release from AT&T...the wait is getting too long.
Question -I assume I'll need to reload apps if I flash a ROM, correct?
I'll just leave this here...

Well only reason he was giving you precautionary tips was because you needed to create a whole thread on where to get ROM's when the Dev section is just a couple spots under the General section...

True. Im thankfull 4 any advice n tips. Ive just used one click root for mac though it seems i didnt root. I hold down volume n power n it seems like it restores me back to stock.
I will be nice and point you in the direction you need. Look up NVflash this is how you get cwm. Unlike most phones you can flash the recovery before you get root. Make sure you do a backup of the stock rom and keep a copy on your computer. Then flash what ever rom you wish.
By keeping your stock unrooted back up will allow easy restore of stock system and the use of nvflash to go back to stock recovery if warranty is ever needed.

Thank Scooter and follow the links he gave you. You don't really need to achieve root in able to flash ROM's for this phone. You just need CWM via NVFlash and you're good to go.
To put it onto perspective, NVFlash is kinda like Odin.

+1 for funniest thread tonight, and since I feel like crap and this made me guffaw, that's a +10.
So I was a little disappointed to learn that the JB update won't work on a rooted device. I didn;t use Odin to do it - I used a link on Droid Life. It worked fine, but now I would like to un-root it so I can get the update. I've looked around and found a few links - many of which involve downloading files that no longer exist. And I don't think the method I used to root it backed up the original ROM.
Anyone have any idea where to look?
Mahalo,

Yes the jb update can be rooted and you can simply use ota root keeper, take the update and be good.

There have been many reports of the update working on rooted devices. You can even keep your root using OTA root keeper.
The only thing you'll have to do is have stock recovery flashed and you should be good to go.

I bought this phone from Craiglist, and I want to find out if the phone is rooted. Also if it is rooted, how do i unroot it? Another thing, whenever i try to take away a screen by pinching two fingers the phone turns black, and doesn't respond for about a minute for saying unfortunately thouchwhiz has stopped working. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks a lot.

I did, when i first ran the app something called superuser was asking for permission and i didn't grant access. And i ran it again, and this time granted access, and this time it said congratulations this device has root access. I guess it means it's rooted. How do I unroot it.?
Unrooting would be super foolish. If you wanna unroot, get an apple device.

First find out if its ICS or gingerbread ROM. Than look around the blaze dev. Pg., and read-up on the great ROMs available. Follow instructions to the T when installing whatever you choose and make sure you create a backup in cwm FIRST. Happy flashing
Flashing another ROM will fix the touchwiz thing, you don't need it unless you really want it.

I uninstalled superuser app and now it shows that I don't have root access. I fixed the thouchwhiz problem by just using the go launcher app. Now the only problem is that I want some of my tmobile apps back like mobitv and Polaris office. Is the only way to get them back just by getting them from the play store?
Two choices: get it from the play store (if available) or follow the instructions chjema posted. It flashes the original build and will get everything back as if purchased new.
I saw this mentioned in passing on another thread and thought it was worth mentioning in its own thread. (Sorry if this has been posted in this forum already but I tried searching and couldn't find it.)
K1mu has developed a safe root method that works on the MK2 baseband. (For those of us who felt too uncomfortable with all the security questions about vroot and kingo.) It's posted on the Verizon S4 forum here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758 but I can confirm that it worked for my AT&T S4 running the MK2 version of 4.3.

Works!
Confirmed working on MK2.
Now that we have a safe method of rooting 4.3 (MK2) we can rest easy and just sit back while waiting for Safestrap to be updated. The added benefit of this root method it allows kernel memory overwrites which may allow us to use custom kernels inside SS for 4.3+. Couple this with the work Surge has been doing over on the Verizon forums to unlock the bootloaders, it's starting to get exciting around here again!
Worked for me. Cool!

un root to re root for the extra benefit. He said it's root with busy box that's it

Just rooted my phone using this method. I ran the install.bat file with the phone plugged in. when it was searching for phone, I unplugged and confirmed that USB Debugging was on then replugged back in. Process started right away. Ensure that phone is unlocked and you grant permissions to popup. After phone reboot, I uplugged and re-plugged in. Precess resumed and phone was rooted. First thing i did was run SU. It tells you that KNOX is running and may cause conflicts with root. I allowed SU to disable KNOX. Everything working great.
Thank you very much
Worked!
Thanks for this! Worked perfectly!!!
