[Tutorial] How to get a bugfree ICS (expected)on your SGR - Samsung Galaxy R i9103

Warning: Using ODIN on ICS may brick your phone!
This tutorial is for those who are currently having issues with this ICS update and the phone is very unstable on it.
1. Restore to a GB rom. U can flash using odin but other users are saying that it may brick ur phone.. Do it on your own risk. I have done it with no problems. Indian users do flash zskk5 2.3.6. For other users flash zcla1 or xwla4.
2. Root it. Then install busybox.
3. Use efs backup pro, a windows software, to backup your efs partition. Dont worry, its free..
4. Backup ur sd card and other data.
5. Repartition using apx mode using the unbrick tutorial.
6. Flash a GB rom specified earlier.
7. Again root n install busybox.
8. Restore efs using efs backup pro.
9. Install cwm and restore ICS.
10. Do a factory reset.
Thats it!
If you find it helpful, i am open to recieving thanks!

How can u claim that after doing this ICS will be brick free and bug free . Just using unbrick tool will turn emmc immortal seems legit
provide sources or explain this in details.
Sent from my CM7.2 powered Galaxy R using Tapatalk 2.

I must say that you really put the devices under risk.Sorry to say this.Doing wipes/factory reset is the main cause of brick and the same applies to nandroid restore.Odin is considered safe but since 1 guy said he bricked using Odin,I'm not sure if he flashed after his device was affected or the Odin made it.
As of now, those who are in ics,do not wipe or restore backups.stay where you are.

I cannot explain this but it really worked for me.. I have tried every possible way to make my phone stable but this was the only way which worked. Just shared something which i found fruitful but if you dont find it useful u can tell me an another way to do it.. I m cool with anything..

U r provding wrong information to other users, u have mentioned that follow this tut to get brick free ICS, also part of this post are encouraging peoples to use odin on ICS which is claimed dangerous by other user. this can harm peoples around here. After following this tut peoples will be careless about brick bug and might be brick their devices.
We are here to help each other and share but do not share things which could harm others.
Better edit out this post.

Dude is that ok now..?

Dude NEVER recommend factory reset (especially via CWM which is the case here) when dealing with brickbug. It's ok to share your experience, I understand you just tried to help but in such particular case we must be extremely careful, and we cannot think it worked for me once...it will be safe for all others. No, it doesn't work that way. Data wipe is known to be the most common trigger of brickbug. There is already a good thread: [CAUTION][ICS]Read before flashing ICS, and look at Entropy512's posts. He's I guess the best xda-expert in that matter.
And about using Odin... I haven't carried any of those bricked phones in my hand so I cannot state anything for sure, but I'm up to 90% sure that damage was already present before Odin was used (since problems started before). It's highly unlikely that Odin itself can trigger the brick. However problems could become more evident after Odin were trying to write to damaged partition. Any single case has been reported where using of Odin itself was considered as the one that caused damage of partition/chip.
It's a shame that you guys don't have custom ICS-kernels, that would make it much easier.

Yes...Entropy is the guy who first found the bug and showed us some light on it.

Official alpha release for ICS I9003

Guys i have a way to install the official ICS ALPHA Firmware on the I9003
1.Requirements
First thing to do is to fully charge up your phone to a minimum of 60% battery life to ensure that your phone doesn’t turn off during the installation process.
Make a back-up of all your necessary data as it is vital to have a copy of your original files since we are installing the alpha version of ICS 4.0. Most of the current features won’t work right now and you may have trouble in accessing your data.
Enable USB Debugging on your phone by navigating to Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
Disable all unnecessary computer processes like antivirus software, firewall programs, and PC suites as they may interrupt the firmware installation process.
2.INSTRUCTIONS
1. Download the ICS firmware from here
2. Connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable.
3.Do not extract the zip file.
4.Put the zip file in ur sd card
5. Boot into recovery or clockworkmod recovery.
6. Select install update from sd card. U can move around by the vol. buttons and select by the power key
7. Now select the zip u copied earlier
8. Wait for 5-10 mins. The process will complete and it will reboot
9. And now u hav ICS on ur Phone.
Remember ur doing this at ur own risk. I am not responsible for anything that happens. Its still the Alpha release so do expect some software or hardware issues!

First off, are you trying to modify or root any of the software on your device? Second, Have you tried loading the recovery rom by pressing down and power and hard resetting the device and restoring it to factory defaults?

-did you flash a tmobile rom on your skyrocket?
-if you did, did you also flash the t989 skyrocket converter patch?
I'm assuming you have a computer. In order to fix your phone, you will need Samsung USB drivers, Odin and a Stock ROM tar.
Before you even start, take a few breaths, and READ all the instructions.
USB drivers can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
Odin can be found here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?u868rqz4qn0ta34
Stock Syrocket ROM tar can be found here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/144478/Stock%20Recovery.tar
Read all the instructions carefully. Take your time. If you still can't get it figured out, let me know.

Brick Bug

Are there any rom /kernals still out there that have the emmc bug in them? I want to flash an ics rom, but with all the stuff floating around I'm a little nervous. Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a quick thread search on the phone and didn't find anything.

Ive run every leak that's came out ucalc4 ucld2 and now ucle2 and I've had absolutely no problems. I've flashed cwm touch and rooted all 3. I've did factory data resets inside the UI and in cwm. I've wiped cache dalvick cache and battery stats several times on all 3 leaks. I've flashed different modems and kernels and yes I've even formatted the SD both inside the UI and in cwm and I've had no problems. And yes chainfires brickbug app says my phone is at risk for being bricked. But I had already done all this stuff mentioned before I found out there was even a problem. So if your worried about the brickbug then maybe you should just stay on stock gingerbread. If your scared to take a risk and push things to the very edge then maybe xda isn't for you... we are a group of devs and tech savy people who test and push things to the edge to learn new things and make android phones better. Anytime you flash a rom or recovery image or modem or even root a phone you run the risk of a brick. I know people who have bricked phones with Samsung kies doing a official update. So if bricking scares you that much then just stay stock
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
The brickbug happens on ics kernels.
So.. wiping all that stuff from cwm (which seems to be based on gb kernel) is fine.
Do not format from within ics rom!
You may not corrupt your emmc, but its not worth the risk.

[Q] To root or not to root..thats the question!

Hey guys,
since more than a month i am using the xperia active from Sony Ericsson and i ve still guarantee on it.
It s an awesome smartphone, but sometimes the RAM is overloaded and it starts to lag.
Then the battery works for just a day, because of the background-apps, then i ve to charge it again... really annoying
Thats why i want to root my smartphone. Actually i ve ICS(4.0.4) on it (before it was 2.3 or sth.) and i would like to keep it, but on it i want superuser rights. Therefore i found "zergrush" from doomlord, but in other threads i just read thats for Android 2.2/2.3 ...
Is it possible to root my phone without loosing my guarantee (to make root "nearly" unseen after unroot, in case of warranty) on that device?
(sorry for my bad english, i hope you understood my situation and give me some answers )
greetings Red
You can try rooting using Doomlords method for ICS
Flash a stock kernel of 4.0.3
Root it using Doomlords kit
PS its a batch file
Flash back 4.0.4 kernel
Done !!!

Noo, dont root. Youll get stuck in fastboot and spend $12 on repairs!
Sent from my LG-P350 using xda app-developers app
Whether you're going to root it or not is up to u. However, if u do root and u want to make it unseen or unroot, flashing an official stock rom removes the root data.
i read a thread that made a few things clear, i cant remember who posted it (sorry) but it just said that if they cant prove that u rooting your phone is the cause of whatever wrnt rong with your phone, they will still have to fix it under the warranty.
I also never heard of anyone messing up their android as a result of rooting.
Im not saying jump into it and root your android, be careful as we are always warned that their are risks onvolved and developers knows best

For sure root it´s the best option for anyone that like to customize the system.
You should try superoneclick its a program which basically roots your your phone for you, gives you superuser and there shouldn't be drastic changes to your OS either
google it and download then go to youtube and follow a tutorial such as youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=lD4_wAj1WIY (sorry cant post links yet)
As for warranties I'm not sure but this is the safest and easiest method I'm aware of
but you should probably make sure it works on your phone and make a backup before you try it

I am not aware of a CWM flashable back-to-stock zip. You need to use a computer and either Odin or Heimdall it back. Qkster said to look at his thread and I recommend following that advice. His Heimdall package works pretty well.

dman's uclb3 CWM flashable
I have never used it, but dman's uclb3 is CWM flashable. You might want to read the thread carefully as always.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22775901
When I asked recently about the confusing (to me) comments about video near the beginning of that thread, it was clarified that video depends on the kernel, and those comments do not apply if you have the latest GB kernels from Entropy or Zen ( which have no video problems)
Others are welcome to chime in if I have missed something important.
Man, I've been through about every post there is about the infuse on every site you can imagine. You know you're at the right place when every other site either quotes somebody from here or just straight up links you back to xda. If you can't find what you're looking for with a simple search on here then you shouldn't be doing what you're trying to do or you have a truly unique problem which is rare.
To get to the point, I don't think you can flash back to stock from cwm but if you succeed in doing so, please post your results and how you did it. If you're trying to fix a bad flash or getting the phone ready to sell or for any other reason, there is no replacing odin in my opinion. I know that flashing a ROM from cwm is super easy, but odin is just a hair less easy. Even if you have to borrow a computer, it should take no more than 10 minutes including download time. Thats my two cents. Take it or leave it. Best of luck to you.

Jelly bean ROMs use a different system partition that cwm can't change. If you flash the stock ROM you will get stuck at the Samsung screen.
If you are in jelly bean you need to Odin or heimdall back to stock.

No worries, I wasn’t taking offense to your comments. I was fishing for information about possible limitations of dman's uclb3 CWM flashable GB package (That info did come later in csandman1977’s post where he identified that package won’t work when coming from Jelly Bean.). Please don't hesitate to share your experience and thoughts here.

I think you’re talking about dman's uclb3 CWM flashable.
As identified by csandman above, it won’t work coming from Jelly Bean. I’m not sure about ICS.
I’m pretty sure it would work fine coming from any Froyo or GB Rom.
