Hi,
Please could someone point a newbee in the right direction for how to install a XAP onto my WP7 Titan. It is currently as it was when it came from HTC . I heard that 'Chevron' method that I was going to try no longer works ?
I use Win7 on the pc
Many thanks for any pointers !

Think your best bet is to flash a custom rom unless you want to pony up for a developer account

Get the WP SDK. Then unlock your phone using a token and use the application deployment tool to get the XAP on your device. XAPs from the marketplace won't be deployable.
Note that we currently don't have a way to interop-unlock the stock ROM of gen2 HTC phones, such as your Titan. This means that you will be limited to 10 (or 3, if you're on a free account) unsigned apps, and that you won't be able to use high-privilege apps.
I and several others are still working on finding more interop-unlock hacks, but it is quite impossible to give any kind of ETA for this. A breakthrough may occur tomorrow, or may never come before we move on to other goals.
If you want high-privilege apps, or large numbers of homebrew apps, you will currently need to install HSPL and a custom ROM.

You can't install the vanilla Nokia Drive on your phone, but it is patchable to make it work. As a pre-requisite, you need a developer unlock. If somebody is going to suggest it or you read it somewhere: Do not change your device ID to a Nokia phone, that might have broader impact.

Well, in you're case it's complicated because you're trying to install an app that isn't supposed to be available for your phone. As far as reasons for thing to be complicated go, that's a pretty fair one, I think... and yet by the standards of most of the stuff we do here, it's pretty simple. Of course, if you want to make Nokia Drive *work* on a non-Nokia phone, that's slightly more complex (it requires modifying the app), but - much like creating full-unlocked custom ROMs and bootloader unlocks - somebody else has probably already done that part for you.

I just got a new HTC Trophy and I have been doing extensive reading about unlock options, etc.
Just to give you a quick overview, I have dev unlocked my phone (as a student), and am running NoDo. I know that I cannot run ChevronWP7 on this phone as NoDo was required for CDMA networks.
My question is- can I somehow get a non-dev unlock (i.e., an unlimited sideload unlock) using Mango? I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anywhere that detailed this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hmm this question is better asked at the HTC Trophy section.
I'm still not that experienced so bare with me.
Lets see first if we can do something about this without Flashing your ROM.
First can you sideload 3rd Party apps? Say the U2M7720.XAP file on this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287505
Because from my understanding that Dev-Unlock = ChevUnlock ?
If you can sideload this app and use it then follow the steps on that thread to the letter and you should have Mango with Unlock + INTEROP-UNLOCK.
Now in case you can't sideload apps, only solution is to flash a ROM with Mango Jailbroken. Check these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269652
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
Couple of tips:
1- If you choose the Flashing method, READ every single warning and step, you don't want to end up with a Bricked/Half-Bricked device.
2- Take a full backup before trying to mess around with your phone.
3- Have a copy of your original ROM, try hitting this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924333
Let me know how it goes for you.
Thanks for the reply. After reading your post and looking at your threads, I am even more confused than ever.
So, yes I have already sideloaded 2 apps (not the one you referenced in your post)- I have a dev (student) unlocked phone, so I guess I can sideload up to 3 apps...
The 1st link - isn't that for phones that were unlocked via ChevronWP7?
Any assistance (and hand-holding ) would be greatly appreciated.

So LiFePo4, what is your end goal, to be interop-unlocked (i.e., sideload more than 10 apps), or just dev-unlocked on Mango?
Xenohart, do you have experience getting the HTC Trophy unlocked (> 10 sideloaded apps)?

Interop-unlock so I can sideload homebrews such as ACT or Registry Editor from Schaps and others. Dev-unlock does not enable you to sideload any homebrews.
So are you running Mango w/Interop-unlock, or NoDo?
I have two phones (one is wife's). Hers is Mango but locked (until I find a way to interop-unlock; I can do a dev-unlock but it doesn't buy me anything right now). My phone is NoDo Dev-unlocked and interop-unlocked. I am staying on NoDo for other reasons but like having the interop-unlock
I believe Ansar and Heathcliff are on the verge of a breakthrough.
Ansar will release something in the coming days (hopefully), as it seems he found a way to unlock official Mango. So for the guys unable to unlock the Trophy, keep your eyes open.

You need HTC connection setup to interop unlock and it was pulled off the marketplace so unless your phone had it on from the start.... might be screwed
Iam stuck on nodo with a cdma sprint arrive because of this.
@snapz54: Heathcliff74, Ansar, and most of the other folks working on HTC interop-unlocks, myself included, mostly post on the Development and Hacking sub-forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=606). Please read the stickies before posting there; it's not a Q&A forum the way this one is.

@GoodDayToDie: Thanks for that info - the problem for myself is that it is almost impossible to find answers to specific questions on the Development/Hacking forum (or on any forum here for that matter). There isn't a centralized Wiki/FAQ on issues/questions like this. I find that the stickies usually are tens of pages long and just when you're about to find an answer, the post you think contains the answer mentions 2 or 3 other forum posts that it links to to get the answer, so by the time I think I've found answer, I have like 10 different tabs open in my browser, all for various forum posts that were linked from one of the main stickies.
I've gotten both "Yes you can upgrade to Mango with a Verizon-based HTC Trophy and keep it interop unlocked" and "No it is not possible at this time". If you could shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my mini-rant.
@Avazee: The search feature on these forums could be a lot better, but it does exist. You can also just use an external search engine (Bing/Google/whatever) and do a search with " site:xda-developers.com" to find things.
I don't know for sure if it's currently possible to Interop-unlock a Trophy, or any HTC phone. My HD7 is interop-unlocked, but I've heard the method I used (coming from the beta) doesn't work anymore. The usual approaches mentioned to getting interop-unlocked on HTC Mango rely on an app called U2M7720, by ansar.ath.gr. This app provisions your phone through the pre-release Mango update process, which should give you a window between updates where you can interop-unlock Mango.
Using the retail upgrade path will not work. You will need to roll back; nobody currently knows a way to interop-unlock an HTC phone that is already on Mango. Alternatively, there are custom ROMs for HTC phones that provide Mango with interop-unlock already baked in.
I am having much difficulty rooting my phone. My phone is a Docomo NEC Medias N-06C running Android 2.3.6.
So far I have tried Z4Root, Universal Androot and Gingerbreak. No luck.
I have no computer skills, so trying to use SupeOneClick or other computer programs have proven impossible for me. I have the drivers for the phone, but no idea how to install them in WIndows.
Can anyone recommend a good tool to use to download onto the phone and root from there?

No one here has yet created this for: your device, sadly when it comes to rooting it depends on if a developer owns the device your attempting to mod. In this case No there's no one here at Xda. Be sure to use Google thoroughly and search everything available for device you want to root. If there is nothing out there meaning no dev has ever developed anything for your specific device your next option is this " Search for a device that is similar in specs such as cpu/gpu, processor speeds, firmware versions. Now if you find devices that are similar.
"For example my device Sgh-T679 Samsung Galaxy Exhibit ⁴g has a similar device the Sgh-T679M Samsung GalaxyW they are very similar meaning devs used builds from the Sgh-T679M and ported them to the Sgh-T679 For Example: the sgh-T679 never had anything higher than Android 2.3.6 released in it. Using Sgh-T679M builds we've successfully ported over Android 4.0.4-4.1.*"
All the How To Guides are located on the web(actually if search here at Xda everything you'll need can be found here) If there are no mirror devices for the one you are using then I'm sorry if your not a developer then you may be S.O.L. Hope this has helped you and goodluck, I'm sure some where out there on the web there's someone out there who's already worked towards rooting your device. Find what you need look up the How To's you'll need to achieve what your looking for and read up If your computer literate then you may possibly be able to do it on your own. Also remember there are emulators and Android Sdk that you can use on your PC as a developing tool so you can test out the rom on your PC first. It basically I'd a program that runs your Android device in your computer so you call mod, test see what works and what doesn't work start over mod, reapply and have no risk of bricking your device in the mean time. I wish you luck and welcome to Xda.
I promise you I know computers can seems like trying to read a language you've never heard of before but here at Xda the great Developers have created flawless guides on How To's for everything involved with Android Open Source Project.
Edit: I reread your post and see you said your not very computer savy please just use the guides provided and or you will learn or meet someone along the way who will be more than happy to help you achieve what you ate trying to do goodluck friends wish you well

Hello Friends,
I have purchased unlocked HTC M8 , got Android on it. I want to install Windows 8.1 on it. Do we have official global Windows 8.1. ?
Plus after installing Windows 8.1 will it be possible to upgrade to Windows 10 ?
It is currently (and also likely) not possible to install WP8.1 on an Android M8 (I tried) because there is no way to put the WP bootloader onto the Android M8, and from the information I found during my attempt, the PBL of the WP version also contain secure boot, which is not present on the Android version, this can have effects on the OS that we don't know of yet.
Super misleading title...

Right, but look at the keywords of your first sentence. Android, wanting to put Windows 8.1 on it. There are many threads that ask this same question and the same answer and reasoning has been given.
Until Microsoft and HTC somehow publicly announce an interchangeable ROM, then the answer is no. WP 8.1-specific ROMs are only usable on WP8.1 specific handsets, unless otherwise deemed so due to the lovely secure boot that WP requires.

and.. RUU zip is not useless at all.. people with windows variant can use this to restore their devices.
so stop acting as if you're in a android device forum.
Hello, I asked around here about the Huawei Y6, and if there were any ROMs for it. The answer was that, since search engines didn't display anything, probably not.
Despite that, I'd still like to see if I can make use of the device. I really dislike the spyware and all that garbage on stock phones. GApps and all sorts of uncomfortable privacy-invasive things. I'd like to get rid of that. But since there's no ROMs to flash my Y6 with, I'm looking for another way to feel more comfortable using this phone. Is it possible to have a relatively safe phone without flashing a new OS on it?
Also, I found this, EMUI, which seems to be some software by and for Huawei. They are offering tarballs for different devices, including the Y6 on the downloads page. Are these full OS's? Can I flash an unlocked Y6 and then throw F-Droid on it like any other ROM? That would be nice. Here's the link.

Yes, he's using a rooted device. You can't remove bloatware otherwise. Those apps are part of the system, and you need root access to modify that.
Sorry. You said you couldn't find ROMs. You need root to flash ROMs, so naturally I assumed you were rooted.

Ah, okay. I used to have a Moto G and unlocked the bootloader, then I installed SlimROM onto it. That wasn't the same as being rooted, was it? Sorry if I'm not making sense, I don't have a lot of experience with phones.
In any case, Huawei is offering bootloader unlock codes for their phones, which is why I was interested in buying one. I thought that meant I could install another OS onto it.

Virgin Mobile J700P
Hello! First, thank you all for everything you do here--this is an extremely helpful community of people.
I have a Galaxy J700P with Virgin Mobile. Running J700PVPU1APH4 software. I've rooted it and had no success with creating a second partition on the SD card to use Link2SD for apps. I've tried formatting on PC via Minitool Partition Wizard, on the phone using Aparted, and also tried with Apps2SD. Link2SD simply refuses to recognize the 2nd partition ("Mount script error"). It has been suggested to me to try Cyanogenmod or a custom Lollipop (to use adoptable storage).
In short, I'd like to flash a ROM that will allow me to use my SD card for app storage. Being able to continue using Google Play Store apps is also preferred. Are there any suggestions for software that is the most stable for this phone that will allow me to use SD card for app storage? Let me know if you need more info. Thank you for reading!

It;s not self promotion at all man cause i used yours first lol, its was very nicely done until i needed some of those apps for basic functionality. I needed the music and video player and i found that the signal was shotty with your rom compared to stock. There were some others that i cant remember right now. So, I then dirty flashed the stock rom over your rom and added custom recovery and superuser. I gained the tethering feature and the update prl and services which i need in my area sometimes to get better coverage. I know a lot of people dont mind this as they want the minimal. I know Im a noob with this stuff as i came from the lg 740 and this is a whole diff game. Thank you though for your efforts in making the rom i have yet to look on how to thank people cause im still new here. Sorry for the one long paragraph by the way

Would ROMS built for the J700 F/H/M be compatible with the J700T? There is not many ROMS built for the J700T, while there is a bunch for the J700 F/H/M.
The only difference I see in the phones are the different carriers so you would think that they would be compatible with each other.

The only difference I see in the phones are the different carriers so you would think that they would be compatible with each other.
Thanks

I don't think so. I had my old Galaxy J-5 fried due to flashing ROM not meant for my device. I would suggest not doing it if it is your primary device. But go ahead if you're a development nut and wanna try it anyways. If you try it and it works, update your post here so others can know.
Hit Thanks if I Helped You!!!

I have many questions with this bootloader. I'm new to this things. Sorry. Btw I have the J700F J7(2015) model.
1. Is there any way to know if my phone is in locked bootloader or unlocked?
2. I'm planning to install the Pixel Experience rom and I've read that i must unlock the bootloader first. I know that I must be from stock rom. Then I will install the TWRP, then root, then proceed to flashing the rom. In this process, where will I unlock the bootloader? Do I need it to be unlocked before I install the TWRP?
3. I know that I can google it, but is there an easiest way to unlock the bootloader?
Sorry, I have many questions.
Hi. I have your exact same model ?
To unlock the bootloader, enable developer options - in settings, about device, software info. Tap build number 7 times.
Now go back to settings, developer options - enable OEM Unlock. Also enable USB Debugging.
Done.
Are on marshmallow? If yes, make sure SuperSu is version 2.78 or newer.
Tip - make sure to backup your fon first as soon as you install TWRP. BEFORE rooting.
Keep 2 copies of this backup.
To install the Pixel rom you must already be on stock marshmallow

How hard would it be to port a ROM built for the J700 F/H/M to the J700T?
