My s3 is losing battery while plugged in. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Ive been using my s3 for about 40 minutes on CM10. Plugged into a dual usb charger connected to not ip port, which in the past i have used fine. I have lost 5% battery in this time. Current widget doesn't work yet with S3. Suggestions?
Edit - The first time I got the phone after a full charge and discharge, while plugged into stock charger and before anything root, the same problem happened.

From what I heard, the charger can't charge the phone fast enough when you are using it thus the losing charge while plugging in. If you are talking about losing percentage right after you disconnect the phone from the charger, that is a feature, I do not know at the top of my head why it does it.

If charging through USB port (and many car chargers) you're capped at 500mA vs 700+ for wall chargers. You can install a kernel that supports fast charging and you will get 700mA through USB.

I'm having the same issue whether charging from usb or a power outlet. Charges for a bit initially, then drains. Happens with different cords, too. I'll pick it up and it will feel warm, see that the battery is lower than when I plugged it in, then put it down. Then it cools off and starts charging again. Any ideas?

Same here except
i have the same issue, i had stock Touchwiz and suddenly the phone started to discharge while on charging outlet, tried different chargers, outlets, different ports, etc. still wouldnt work, i even deleted several applications and turned off several phone functions, etc. still nothing, then i rooted to CM10.1 and the same issue still presists, the phone charges a bit then discharges weather i use it or not. the only solution to charge it, it seems to be by turning off the phone. i think it has to do with the usb port on the phone as i even had the battery changed and it still would discharge while on a charger.

S3 Battery Decreasing while charging SOLVED !!
Hey i have 100% Solution of this with this you will your battery life !

[Q] [HELP]Phone will not charge

Today my Triumph seemed to be draining the battery faster than normal, though I was also making a lot more calls than normal. I have a cable plugged into my PC at work which I plugged into my phone but the driver install window didn't pop up like it normally does and my PC's network connection got very slow. I unplugged it and my PC connection was fine again. I left my phone unplugged for the most part after that though I did plug it in once or twice. I don't think it was ever truly recognized by my PC at work today (it has worked before) though I'm not certain.
When I was about to go home I noticed my phone was off. I knew it was low on battery so I assumed that it had turned off due to low battery. It couldn't have been off any more than 30-60 minutes. I didn't think it should have turned off already for low battery yet though.
I plugged it into my car charger and my phone refused to turn on. About 20 minutes later i unplugged my phone and the red charging light was still on. I had to pull the battery. I then turned on my phone and it was working, but low on battery.
About 45 minutes later I drove home with my phone plugged in, but I didn't check to see if the charging light was on. The phone was still on. When I got home I tried plugging in the phone and I noticed that it was not charging. It still isn't. I have tried the following:
Restarting phone
Plug in while it is turned off (charge light comes on but not charging animation, must pull battery for light to go off. phone will not start while plugged in or charge light is on)
Try plugging into computer rather than wall
Try car charger
Swap battery to stock battery (I use an Anker battery rather than the stock. I haven't used my stock battery for a few weeks to a month. It should have been fully charged but only had less than 50%) and try everything again with same results
Right now I have my Anker battery in which was nearly dead (below 10%) plugged into the wall with it off hoping it will charge. My phone is mostly stock other than I rooted it using the b_randon14's method, installed b_randon14's tweak mod, and flashed in the Sprint PRL using a method from howard forums with the 60681 version. I had links but had to remove them due to not previously posting on this forum.
I noticed the usb cable is not solid in the prot on my phone, but it never was and doesn't seem any different. For example I can move the cable back and forth a little bit while plugged in. It remains plugged in when I do this and while the phone is off it knows it is plugged in obviously. Any ideas?
Ok... I left it plugged in while off for an hour then it started working... very odd. Nevermind then I guess, lol.
Saw this thread, was going to suggest that. Your issue seems to be one that happens across all sorts of devices that have rechargeable batteries, even Android phones (and especially $&!t MP3 players that you'll find at K-Mart). I once made the mistake of buying a $30 MP3 player that refused to turn on once its battery dropped to a certain level. Twice. From K-Mart, of course.
Thank goodness for returns.
I am still having issues and it is really frustrating. Sometimes it will charge when on, some times it won't. The only thing I think MIGHT be common between when it does and doesn't work is how much battery is left. I think it might work more often when the battery is closer to a full charge. What I often do is plug in the phone, shut it off, it will charge but charging animation isn't there and I cannot turn it on until the charging animation shows up. I think it only shows up when the phone is fully charge or close to it (I've only ever seen it when it is fully charged).
Unfortunately I don't have a lot of concrete information on this as i haven't had much time to troubleshoot and verify any of my suspicions. I do know that USB Debugging has nothing to do with it and clearing my battery statistics didn't have any affect either. This issue is very frustrating and I believe are all software based, not hardware.
Any ideas or pointers?
Out of curiosity, have tried a different USB cable? I know that you talked about switching chargers, and I couldn't tell if this was just the base unit and you plugged the same cable in or, if it was a completely different charger and cable.
I have a wall charger with a usb cable at my office, a wall charger with a (different) usb cable at my house, and a car charger with its own non detachable usb cable. All have the same issue.

Slow charging

Sometimes (no pattern) the note charges very very slowly: in 4 hours this morning, for example, has increased of only 15%.
You can tell cos the charger is not hot.
Is it a charger/cable/connector problem?
Do you see a little red "X" over the battery when this happens? i believe unless you use one of the Samsung chargers it won't charge at full speed but will still trickle charge slowly. I've also found that even with the Samsung charger when I used a really long USB cord I wasn't getting full speed charging, so a long or bad cord can be an issue.

No red X, original cable and charger... To solve I have to unplug e replug couple of times
Same here
When I connect the Note 10.1 to my Computer or last time I tried to connect to car charger it gives a red cross. Why does this keep happening ??
My note 10.1 just started charging slowly noticeably.
I used an app called Galaxy Charging Current, and sure enough, the status shows that it is charging at 1amp, instead of the nominal 2amps.
This is on the original charger and cable.
I recommend everyone to check out the app called Galaxy Charging Current.

The red X is difefrent: you cannot charge the note 10.1 with a usb cable or in car with a 1 Amp adaptor, it needs 2

My GT-N8000 from original ICS 4.0.4 until now using XXCMI2 DBT Deodexed sometimes too long for charging ( charge always at power off mode ). sometimes 5-6 hours and it still not full 100%. It'll be full 100% if unplug and replug again and wait at least 1 or 2 hours. after long time experiment, My conclusion when charge at power off from 35% or below, It will be 5-6 hours charge and not full but charge at 60% power off mode charge it will be full 100% charged just 2-3 hours. that's very strange. at power on never got this problem, always 100% full.
All accessories, charger and cable data were original.
Any Opinion???
Thanks

could be the ROM you are using. Did this happen when you were stock? I know on my HTC one there were a few roms that I would have to plug the USB in three of four times just to get it to work correctly. Then I changed roms and BOOM works perfect again.
@Tiltmfc
For Me that happen on stock ROM too, coz when I purchase this N8000 at special price on 1st day launch in Indonesia, I must wait until root feature available at least 2-3 month and I always charge at OFF condition and almost rare at ON mode. at official ICS at OFF always like this, real real long to be fully charged when start charge at 30% and Don't know when reach 100% if I don't unplug the charger cable at least once.

I had the same problem previously. Solved by getting a new charger (whole set including the cable)! One hour charging = >15% increase
Cool
Wow Cool, maybe charger problem. For Now I've never charge my N8000 below 60% at OFF Mode. always taking 3 hours charging time to 100%.
Thanks for sharing.
Yep I'd agree that it sounds like your charger or wire is on its way out. I had a similar issue with my S3, changed charger - problem fixed
Samsung 10.1 Note N8000 charging slow
I have one from early 2013. The issue is that during the charging process, sediments get deposited both on the plug and the socket. This over a period of time reduces the contact between male and female parts contributing to slow charging.
In a post, some one mentioned that his friends charger worked on his tablet and his charger did the job for his friend. Some one was able to fix the issue with a new charger. The fact is, any change that reduces the sedimentary issue thus enhancing contact will work better.
I took an obsolete tooth brush cleaned the plug and then held the phone's socket down while cleaning that as well. Vila, my charging speed has improved.
Samsung had a proprietary cable for 2013 and later they replaced it with micro USB in 2014. The sediment issue is not as pronounced as in other mobiles which use different cable type. In N8000, the current in DC o/p is also high at 2A which may be causing this problem.

[Q] Replaced battery, charger, AND charger port; PHONE STILL WONT CHARGE!

As title states, replaced everything yet phone refuses to charge or connect to a PC 99% of the time.
I have tried ...
Different outlets
Multiple working android chargers and USB cables
Multiple computers and usb ports
Different batteries
2 OEM batteries
Phone stopped charging one random night, plugged into charger, slept, woke up, phone died and never turned on.
I have been charging my battery through my friends old phone then swapping my battery into my own skyrocket, which turns on so I know the phone works.
For the 1% time that it does charge, I have no idea what happens, but I see that it charges and for ~5 minutes. At this point I don't move or touch the phone at all, I just let it lay there. And after ~5 minutes it stops charging again. (I know it starts/stops because of the tiny buzz it makes)
Anyone have any ideas? Also I am not running a stock rom, not sure if that matters but will try to flash a stock rom soon.

First you have to check carefully the battery, does it an original one? Because out there most of the battery for Skyrocket are fake, moreover, battery for our device is the same as Samsung Galaxy S2 HD for korea market. (On our battey, you'll se 4 pins: 3 for battery and 1 for NFC antenna. While the others just have 3 pins)
Flash stock rom using Odin and check again. If it can charge or not
Plug to a computer and check if it charge or not
If all above are failed, possibly the chip which manager charging in your phone is dead and have to replace.
Goodluck

[Q] Charging Too Slow Now

I have had my Verizon Galaxy S4 since February of this year. I've been using the stock Samsung AC charger that came with it. It's always charged the phone pretty fast if I wasn't using the phone. It would charge about 15% in 20 minutes. Now it's only charging about 3 or 4% in 20 or 30 minutes. Now I didn't do anything different to my phone. I've been on this same ROM for over a month and this is just now a problem in the last week. My wife has the exact phone and charger that I have and when I use her charger it charges just as rapidly as mine used to, so I know it's not the usb port on my phone itself. I haven't dropped or damaged my charger at all in any way either.
Does anyone have any ideas about why this is happening?
If it charges fast on you wife's charger you've pretty much answered your own question.
Try using her cable with your charger, if it still charges slow then get a new charger.

Ok, I'll give that a shot. Thanks.
I had the same problem too ! Did a full battery reset and everything is going good now !
You have to charge it for 12 hours and drain your battery until your phone don't boot. Charge it and here you are !
Yeah these devices act funky every blue moon. My wifes didn't even recognize ANY oem charger for a week. Only detected others as USB devices causing slow charge rate. Removing dust, component cleaner, fresh install, all did no good. Eventually it just resolved the issue itself. All chargers work normally again.
change the usb cables
I also had the same problem before. I'd been using the original charger and usb cable and noticed that charging takes a lot of time than normal.
I found that it's on the usb cable. I accidentally found it when I used gsam battery monitor. It displays the current being received by your phone when charging. Using the original usb cable, it only gets around 600mah. I tried another usb cable (from a previous Samsung device) and now my phone gets 1,900mah (closed to the charger output of 2,000 mah).
Every since I changed the usb cable, my charging is fast now. Hope this helps.
I would try a new cable and Charger that is rated 2.1 amps or better if will be charged real quick

I noticed that using the Pure Nexus rom my charging time became significantly faster. In fact I can get a full charge from nearly dead in just over an hour. This is using the charger and cable that came with the phone.

MT tenso
How do you make full battery reset?
The charging rate is based on the output rating of the charger, which is determined by the resistance value between the Data+ and Data- USB pins. If you use a cheap cable with high(er) internal cabling resistance, that will throw off the detected charger output capacity rating, and knock you down to a lower charging current and longer charging time.
Also, one time, even with the original charger and original cable, I couldn't charge at anything more than the default USB 500mA. I ended up having to power off the phone, and power it on again, which fixed the charging current and speed problem.
Install this app & check if it is getting charged at max current; anything less than 1200 mA when screen on & 1900 mA when screen off, you need to change your cable or charger

I read somewhere that if you activate airplane mode the battery is charging faster.

Charging very very slowly

Hello,
I have had this tabled for a while and it was always charging extremely slowly but I never took it out of the house so it wasn't a bid deal for me. However I have given it to my mother and she uses it in other ways. Anyways, the note 10.1 is the slowest charging device I have ever seen. It takes probably 48h-72h to charge it completely. I am using the original cable and power brick, I have tried ALL the outlets in my house, I have tried using the computer, I have tried using another cable (probably like 5 different ones) and other bricks (from iPads, my note 5, etc) and nothing is working. I have seen other posts regarding slow charging but none of them solve my problem.
Thank you
Thats is not normal .
I would factory reset and flash a stock rom .
Swap battery or take to a service centre .

"probably"?
You can't troubleshoot perceptions and guesses. How long does it actually take--repeatably--to charge from what percentage to what percentage? (i.e. "Went to bed, battery was at 40%, charged overnight for 7 hours and battery was at 60%.")
There are apps to check charging current (Ampere being one of them).
The fastest charge you can get is with the OEM charger in an outlet, not a PC.
Understand that this is a 7,000mAh battery without any quick charging applied to it.
Additionally, if you are using the device whilst charging it, you aren't really charging it since the drain is about the same as the charge; you'll effectively neither charge nor discharge.
Finally, check for battery-draining apps; you might not have a charging problem but an app-drain problem.

The time varies, but it is between 2 and 3 days to charge from 0, never less.
I do use the OEM charger and cable and an outlet.
I do understand that but 2 days seems a bit of a stretch, don't you think?
I am definitely not using it while charging, because it's impossible. It just doesn't charge fast enough to be able to use it. It drains quicker than it charges.
I highly doubt that, I only have YouTube and Chrome installed on it.
Above 6 hours with stock rom and charger is abnormal .
Usual replies .
One cable
Two charger
Three battery or connections .
Four USB port
Five motherboard .

Yeah, 2 days isn't right. It also shouldn't be discharging faster than charging, especially with the OEM charger.
I leave mine plugged into my PC (only 500mA max current) with the screen on (about medium brightness, mostly black screen, which is most power-friendly for OLED) using LectureNotes all day and it will neither charge nor discharge (technically, it's charging at the same rate it is discharging); the percentage doesn't move.
What does Ampere report?
Do you have another charger you could try? any 5V and at least 2A would work.
Also, ensure your cable isn't intermittently open (a break in the cable, temporarily disconnecting the charger).
If the cable and charger are good, then the battery would be the next likely culprit, followed by the charging circuit.
Finally, ensure heat isn't an issue (is it in a case? remove it).
Mine was messed up but I concluded it was the port and cable. I got a new cable and then replaced the charging port and viola. Charge time went from 8 hours back to the usual 3-4
