i have the galaxy s3 verizon unlocked bootloader
wondering if i use odin to stock, will it relock the boot loader? ive seen that after i unlock the boot loader that i shouldnt do any more ota's .
so would odin do the trick if ever needed or is there another way?

All you have to do is flash back to stock, root, and upon reboot, if the custom unlock screen is present...well then your bootloader is locked back up. Also your not going to brick this device that easily...the worst that will happen is you will get the yellow triangle saying unsupported software detected...then you will have to odin a stock rom /kernel. I would never post information that would potentially brick somebodies device...

Flashing a backup of your stock Rom through your recovery will not lock your bootloader.
Hi,
I have cyanogenmode 10 and I wanted to lock the bootloader, I've read in this thread that we could do it with EZ Unlock but now my phone is completely dead. I know my phone had more than 30%. I have it plugged to the PC with the USB cable and when I plug or unplug I can hear the same sound as when we plug or unplug a USB device, however the screen is black.
I have tried to do a normal reboot, a recovery boot with volume down plus power button but nothing. If I hold the power button for about 10 seconds I can hear the sound from Windows like if I've just disconnected the device but nothing changes.
Has anyone ever experienced similar problem?
Thank you for your help.
You can not relock on a custom ROM it will brick your phone. Right now charge yurt phone on the wall outlet for an hour. The laptop is a lower current and may not be enough

Hi Kintwofan,
Thank you for your reply, I don't think it's a problem of battery. I have plugged it into the wall outlet for more than an hour now but still no signs of life I need to try another cable but I don't think it's the cable either because it was charging before.
Any other suggestion?
Thank you again for your time.
Two things. Have you pulled the battery let it sit, put it back in and try to go into recovery? Also, when plugged into your computer does it say it's searching for a driver, if so what is it called?

OK, I have removed the battery for at least 3 hours but the result is the same. it won't boot up.
When I plug it to either the wall or the PC, the led for the power won't even light up.
I think I have a brick instead of a phone. Damn it.
Next time I will buy a Nexus instead of an HTC
That's what it sounds like. Plug it in without the battery, does the led stay red?

where did u read the bootloader had to be locked? all u need to do is odin back to stock, root, unlock bootloader.
All you need to do is download Odin, and and whatever tar file you want, boot phone into download (volume down, home, power), select yes when it asks are you sure, open Odin, select the tar file and start. Easy schmeasy

You rebooted your phone after locking the bootloader. You shouldn't have done that. Your issue isn't unfixable tho, not by any means. IIRC VRALF2 I'm pretty sure is the only stock image that doesn't re-lock the bootloader(I haven't tested all of them). If you choose VRALG1 that will re-lock the bootloader for you when you flash it, it did for me the other day when I started over.
Just boot into download mode and flash the G1 thru Odin then do a factory wipe and you should be fine. I'm 99% sure you didn't trip the flash counter doing this, someone else chime in on this please?
And make sure you use PDA mode when you use Odin and don't unplug your phone from it until it says finished(even if it says removed, let it continue rebooting and doing its thing before unplugging. The Start and Cancel buttons should 'come back to life' when it's ok)
This might be the source the OP was referring to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867253&highlight=odin+to+stock
Although it clearly says to NOT reboot after re-locking your bootloader, it does say that the first step is to lock it before flashing to stock via Odin. Further down in the thread he says he'll remove it from the guide, but I don't think flashing stock via Odin locks the BL so if youre trying to return it to Verizon I would lock it first.

Certain stock images do. I've had g1 lock and I've read that he will to.
Don't get me wrong, locking it yourself prior to flashing thru Odin is a good thing to do just to make sure. It's easier than having to re-root just to lock it then flash all over again.

Yeah, I meant HD, not HE.
We did, but that was when I flashed F2. F2 doesn't lock it, but a week or so ago I had to flash back to stock to start over, used G1 and it re-locked my bootloader on me.
One of these days when I'm bored I'll sit down and try them all just to double check too.

Just a wild guess, but me thinks your bootloader is still locked! But I'm not sure that will even apply because I rooted my device before unlocking the bootloader. But I rooted my device via ODIN first.
You can try EZ-Unlock via the Market. The GUI is still very buggy and will show the status as unknown but the internal workings of the app works good.
You got nothin to loose in trying. Go back to stock and give it another whirl after you've unlocked the bootloader.
Of that fails then I would suggest using the tried and true method..ODIN.
G'luck!
yup your bootloader is still locked
check the downloads thread and use version 1.2.
That means your boatloader is locked. You now must Odin back to stock and start over. Droid style has a guide stickied in the development thread. Follow section 6 of it.
Next time use ez unlock version 1.2 to unlock you boatloader.

I should have backed it up before attempting it, I know I know lol can anyone shed some light on how to update a flashed phone as well as how to root it. I could really use the help
Also after I messed up the boost flash I paniced and flashed a sprint kernel hoping this would fix the problem. Since then anything that I've tried to view including taking camera shots and web browsing if done in landscape mode will be upside down, any remedy for this problem? I know now... root first, flash later.

the whole process took awhile for me, felt like it rebooted a few times also. about 20 minutes i think, you could of got in a hurry during the process and messed it up. does the phone detect? maybe u can reruu?
Have you tried holding the power button down for a while (like 30 secs)? You can't get into bootloader via power+vol down? What happens when you plug into your computer? What do you see in Device Manager?
Bricks on stock phones from borked otas are not common, but they do happen. If so, AT&T is good about replacements.
If the charge LED does not come on when charging (use the wall charger, not USB), and the screen doesn't come on at all after charging overnight, the phone is probably not recoverable.
As iElvis mentioned, bricks caused be the OTA aren't common, but they do happen. For one thing, the OTA flashes a new hboot. So if something goes wrong during that process, it may brick the phone. If you are bone stock, its the fault of the update, so AT&T will replace it.
The LED does not come on, believe me I have tried keeping it on the charger all night, with no success.

Did you have SuperCID? S-on?
The OP is talking about updating via OTA, which is known to brick your phone if you have SuperCID and S-on. But I was wondering what would happen with the RUU, which was just posted by HTC a couple days ago.

You've got a brick. Sorry. It's not clear why this is happening, but once you're in that mode, you're done.
I went to make a backup and ROM Manager said there was a new version of Recovery (ended in .8). I accepted and selected the Touch version. When I then tried to make a backup, the phone rebooted and I got this massage:
System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone.
Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless store for help
Volume up/home/power just boots to this message every time. So does Volume down/home/power. There is no way to restore a backup or use the phone in any way. I have been doing this since the days of the OG Droid, but I am lost now. Please help.

Volume up/home/power just boots to this message every time. So does Volume down/home/power. There is no way to restore a backup or use the phone in any way. I have been doing this since the days of the OG Droid, but I am lost now. Please help.

Are you sure? Make sure you hold down Volume Down + Home for a few seconds before also hitting the Power button. I saw that same message yesterday when going back to stock and I was still able to boot into recovery/download mode. Also make sure your device is completely powered down (and not plugged in/charging)

THAT DID IT! I held volume down/home for a few seconds and then held power. The phone booted to a mode I had not seen before (recovery/download as you said?) and I said cancel and the phone booted!
I ran EZ-Unlock to unlock the boot loader. I tried several apps that require superuser permissions and they were granted it and run fine. So I assume I am still rooted, right?
Thanks so much for your help.
sounds like you should be good to go. one thing you should should consider doing is backing your IMEI if you havent already.

First, some background info is needed.
1) What did you do to your phone?
2) You have no success booting into Download mode?
3) Did you flash something in recovery? If so, what is the file name of the file you flashed?
Edit: Disregard #2, apparently I can't read. Are you using the Samsung OEM cable? Have you tried using a different USB port? Different computer?

I just noticed the person you helped before me had a galaxy s3 and mine is a note 2 I605.
I opened the ROM manager app and it said something about allowing other devices to text from your same #.
I really hope this helps to figure this out. I'm going to try a different computer now.

You...have a Note 2? Why are you commenting in the Verizon GSIII forum bud? You have to try either your respective Note 2 carrier forum (i605 = Verizon Note 2 right?) or the international Note 2 forums. No one here can help you. Create a new thread in the Q/A section of the proper phone forum you need and you will receive relevant help.

After flashing CWM, you need to unlock the bootloader. You should be flashing a vrale6 bootloader zip OR using EZ Unlock v1.2 to unlock.

That means your Bootloader is not Unlocked. Make sure you use ez unlock 1.2 when unlocking. You can verify it's unlocked when you turn on the phone, and you see the word Samsung flash for a split second.

Gang,
I rooted the phone, but I thought I unlocked the bootloader, but apparently it didn't work, when I boot the phone I get the error with a Yellow Triangle! -“System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off phone and go to the nearest Verison Wireless Store for Help.
I've tried going into ODIN, with Down/Home and Power, but the phone only vibrates, when I press up, with blank screen.. If I wait for the "“System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off phone and go to the nearest Verison Wireless Store for Help." It just sits there no change..
Is there any other way to unbrick the phone, did something change? I've done this to many other S3's but this one is giving me the flucks..
in the top left hand corner with verizon message is error in red: Secure Fail: Kernal
You softbricked. Odin back to the vzw. Then root again and unlock bootloader this time

Try to boot into download mode again, but hit down instead of up to see if you can bypass the check and get into the system. If you can all you have to do is use ez unlock.

Oh god, I got this message when I first did my phone. Literally had it for 10 minutes and just about died. Pull your battery, it'll boot into system. Then there's an app called EZ-Unlock. Use that and you'll be good.

Thats what I had done too while rooting my phone. EZ-Unlock fixed the the yellow triangle and unlocked my bootloader. No worries don't panic you just need to unlock your bootloader

Are you using a usb 3.0 port on your computer? Odin only works like 10% when I use a 3.0 port. Otherwise I would just try redownloading odin and right click on it and run as administrator.
Idk which method you used to root and unlock your bootloader but this always works for http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332825 I only use odin for flashing back to stock, I've had occasional fails when rooting or unlocking the bootloader.
But you only soft bricked your phone so it's fixable. Verizon just puts that's message there to scare people so you have to go in, be told your warranty is void and have to buy a new phone.
I will try a 2.0 usb, but are you daying the device should be found via odin even if the up/done home key combonation doesn't work?

Does anyone have a link to a stock odin. There is a sticky under development section and when I flash the Odin file I still have root. Im hvaing issues with the same message and I've tried unlocking bootloader. When I odin using the .tar file the rom still has superuser on it. Am ibdoing somethinh wrong? Im looking forba stock odin with no superuser or anything so I can flash custom ROMS again.

I did this a few times as well. All you have to do is follow the steps here to flash the bootchain. -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439 Easy as pie and you should be back up in no time.
