Is anyone else having NFC trouble on CM9 Stable and subsequent nightlies? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I'd been running a CM9 nightly (20120710) for awhile, and during that time, I got some NFC tags and have really enjoyed using them in combination with Tasker to automate various things. When I saw that CM9 had a stable release out, I decided to go ahead and flash it.
After I flashed the CM9 stable release, everything seemed to work fine, until the next morning when I tried to use an NFC tag. It wouldn't scan at all, and I didn't get the NFC chime sound or anything. Disappointed, I decided to flash the latest nightly (20120816). NFC still doesn't work.
I've checked the settings, and NFC is turned on. I've turned it on and off a couple times, but that didn't do any good. I took the case off of the phone, took the battery cover off, and it still wouldn't read the tags. And I know the tags I have are still good, since my Nexus 7 can read them just fine.
Also, with both the stable build and the 20120816 nightly build, Android Beaming to and from my Nexus 7 and my Skyrocket seems to work just fine. So, it seems like the NFC stuff is there and connected and all that, but it just doesn't recognize the tags anymore.
Does anyone else have the same issue, and /or does anyone have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong or how I could fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Summary:
Currently running CM9 20120816 nightly (UCLE2 radio) on my AT&T Skyrocket.
Phone's NFC can't read tags on either CM9 stable build or the CM9 20120816 nightly build, but Android Beam still works.
Phone's NFC could read tags perfectly on the CM9 20120710 nightly build.
(If I've posted this in the wrong place, please feel free to tell me that I'm ugly and dumb )

Can anyone confirm that they have the stable release or one of nightlies from after the stable release and NFC tag reading works them?
If so, then I guess the issue is with my particular phone. If not, then maybe I can just wait and hope that a future nightly will fix my issue.

I posted it here because it's a question about the Skyrocket, and I saw other threads here with rom-specific questions, so I assumed that was the thing to do.

No only noobs do this and its moronic who better to have answers than

Alright...
When you say "the cm9 thread," do you mean this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710289
or this one

or a different one?

Common sense would say whichever your running as in are you running a nightly or are you running stable release or one of the rc's
So for you genius that would be the official thread zomg I can pull my head out of my @$$

Nah, I already had one of those. I like Android better.
So, I figured that when you mentioned "the cm9 thread," you had a specific thread in mind. Was I incorrect in that assumption?

So only the 710 build works for you? Have you tried the build that came out today? also check your battery as thats also part of NFC as well. Wish I could test them but I dont have any tags on me.

Thanks for the reply.
Correct... though I didn't try any of the builds between 710 and the stable build, so those all might have worked as well. I've pulled the battery a few times just to make sure it's seated properly and all that, and that hasn't helped so far either.
I'll try the newest build later this evening. If that doesn't work, I might try going back to the 710 build just to see if it still works with that. If it does, I'll put the latest build back on and just hope the NFC gets fixed in a future build. If it doesn't, then... I dunno. I might hold a funeral for my NFC tags or something.
Thanks again!

I just put the latest nightly on and I'm experiencing the same issue. Thanks for mentioning the 710 build. I guess I'll fall back to that one.

Don't listen to illnevertell, all he does is flam and report people. Just ignore him. As for the NFC tagging it's still a little glitchy.

You're welcome, glad I could help. And thank you for confirming that it's not just me or my phone.
After I flashed the 710 nightly, I was pretty happy with it, and then got kinda busy with work and family stuff. Because of that, I never got around to flashing anything after the 710 build until the stable release came out. What I'm trying to say is, for all I know, NFC could have worked great in some of the builds between 710 and stable.
Whichever version you decide to fall back to, if you have time, could you post back here to confirm whether it made NFC work again or not? I'm just curious is all.
Thanks again!

NFC works great for tagging but when you try to use it for android beam it's glitchy.

Just thought I'd update. I have tried the latest cm-9.1.0.skyrocket and no luck. I also tried rolling back to the 710 build but haven't been able to find it. The earliest I could find was cm-9-20120715-EXPERIMENTAL-skyrocket. It also does not work.
Scanning a tag does not respond and firing up any app which requires NFC results in a crash.

I have had the same experience. I get nothing when scanning an NFC tag with cm9.1 stable. When wanting to mess with NFC tags, I actually restore a backup of the stock ATT ROM and it works perfectly with NFC. But I like CM9.1 enough to want to run it normally and deal with the switcheroo. Hopefully, the next stable version of CM will work with NFC:fingers-crossed:

This has all been covered in the actual CM thread, all of our ROM's are stable they just have some missing features (AOSP built ones anyway)
MMS seems to be an issue right now, i have tried apns backup and reinstall and no luck. The other issue i have noticed is the cameras highest res is 3mp, but is fully functional. I also got 2694 on quadrant, if you have never used cyanogenmod i highly recommend it. Coming from a desire this is a bit of a step backwards, but no other rom will do. That being said, it's highly customizeable compared to other roms i have tried.
So the only thing not working is MMS?

I had actually replied in that thread, and the latest post there was yesterday. CM7 rc3 came out today, and it might have been updated to work, so that's why I asked.
Works fine for me with March 2012 baseband. Make sure you install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672159 update as well after baseband flash.
awe wtf? no audio.. during calls? :/
going back to 5/21 7.2.0 RC2
I just updated from RC2 to RC3 and I'm having a little issues with calls. For some reason, when I receive or make a call, it would have no sound. I have figured out that if I put it on hold, I would get sound back. This is a very annoying temporary solution so I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
Here are some additional information:
CM 7.2 RC3
Kernel CM7 Faux 2.6.32.51
Baseband from JULY 2011
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Major Zero, I just read your post. Seems like you have the same problem as me. Temporary solution is to put the call on hold. (on hold == off hold, off hold == on hold)
thanks bud, any given amount of time or just a quick click on/off? thank god I'm not the only one with this bug... I'm reading about this Sound update and Baseband update... yada yada yada... more work... lol
Edit:
Negative, still no audio at all on and off mute/hold... even tried speaker phone...
Ah, weird. I just tested it again and can confirm that receiving audio doesn't work as well. However, the hold on/off solution works for the person on the other end to hear you. So, there seems to be two different problems going on.
I hope someone finds a solution/or updated CM7 comes along. I don't think it is a baseband problem since I still have the July version, although, I could be wrong.
Thanks.
yeah I'm on the same July 15...
everything works fine except phone Audio for me...
no out going or incoming audio, no Voice mail, not even a dial tone?

Then I would recommend trying CM7. If the issues disappear, then you know it's an problem with CM9. If they don't then you know it's an problem with your phone. Either way, you'll be in a better situation than you are currently.
I tried CM7 briefly and didn't have the issues you mentioned. Give it a try.

I wouldn't run the official nightlies for the time being until the data and MMS fixes get approved and merged. CVPS (Austin Dickenson) posted an Alpha 2 on his G+ with those fixes above so you would be better off running those.

Yea, wouldn't want those issues. I'd read some about that and assumed that since there was a couple of days between CVPS's fix and the posting of the official nightly that the fix would be included.
So, how actually stable and usable is this then.
I want to get CM10 or paranoidandroid running, but it looks as though its a gigantic pain in the ass right now with all these issues that people talk about.

Here's the code review for the patch:
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/21492/
In G+ he indicates it is a fix for MMS. Nothing is mentioned about losing IMEI. I haven't read anywhere where anybody has a handle on what causes that issue. It's seemingly random.
This post descibes how to backup and restore EFS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788443
And this post describes how to restore from scratch using a Windows PC, which isn't a lot of use for us Linux people because a Windows VM in Virtualbox doesn't seem to recognize the phone through USB:

No regrets
I decided to take the plunge last night and have done a reboot with NO ill effects to my MMS or IMEI.
The stock CM camera is amazing. Video, FF and ZERO shutter lag are all present. I was worried about losing some of the touchwiz camera options, but I do not miss them.
Data works, but my room is a deadzone so I'll have to wait until I venture outside to see how capable it is.
Wi-fi seems a tad weaker, but not by much.
All of my apps work (netflix included) and the only "annoying" things I have found so far is HBO go not being compatible and Facebook Sync not working the way I would expect it to. I've read that the FB glitch is due to poor support from the facebook app, so I don't think it's really an issue with the ROM.
There is occasional homescreen glitching, which is very slight and happens almost never. It just causes the screen to flash a little bit. There is a fix for this problem but I think you have to re-apply it after every reboot. Either way, NOT a deal breaker.

Ty for the mini review.
Did you install with kexec or just flashed in recovery like normal?
I am now using the other recovery (can't recall the name) as I've read it's better, but I am used to cwm.
If it's just now a simple wipe/install that's fine.
Now I just need to back up the IMEI and back when I get a chance.
But it still doesn't look that official until I see it on the Site.

This. It has been up since last night. And it has the same problems but today's/tomorrows merges are fixing them. If you only want one dd to flash, maybe do it Sunday night or Monday morning. Those builds will likely have fixes merged. Or as other have stated use cvpcs prealpha build which is already fixed.

Make sure you flash the right recovery, the first time I didn't check the correct radio button and flashed the stock recovery back onto the phone. That was a bit of a mind-f**k.
After some testing outside of the house I find that it has as good or better network signal than I had with "stock" ROMs. I don't ever recall having 4g with full bars before installing this ROM. The wi-fi still seems weak, but I'm sure it will get tweaked eventually!
I think it's amazing what developers do. Thank you, wherever you are.

I'm not allowed to post links, so just google "cyanogen mod nightlies" and look for d2vzw. Boom.

Maybe it's there but I'm blind

Bluetooth Issues

Hi,
I am using Rogers Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE. Its running superheavy_CM10_JB ROM. Everything works fine the problem I have with this ROM is when I connect my phone to a bluethooth device eg GPS or my car. It connects fine but when I call people volume doesn't come through my car speaker. It comes through the phone same goes to music, but my car will mute itself if I am playing CD as if I am on call. I tried Liquid smooth rom as well same issues. Ginger bread, official ICS and CM9 satble Rom worked perfectly fine. Anyway Superheavy ROM is more stable for me compared to Liquid smooth which gave me issues like when I call someone they can't hear me and I can't hear them but minutes go up as if I am on call. I love this ROM(superheavy) except for this bluetooth issue. Any body know how to fix it? Please let me know. Thank you in advance.
