Ok I've been searching for about a month on how to root this, but I am not understaning any of the root guides. Here's my plan, my sensation came stoock s-off and now its running ics OTA, for now I just want root, so I'm planning to fastboot flash the 4ext recovery and install superuser. Would that work? Also, in the future if I want to flash a rom I just flash the firmware, flash the boot.img, then flash the rom. Is this correct? I'm comming from a mytouuch 4g slide were everything is much simpler then this, so I'm a noob.

If you are s-off you can do anything you want to. 4ext will let you flash any rom you want easily (regardless of if your stock rom is rooted). Since all custom roms are already rooted you can flash any new rom now and it will have root on first boot.
You can flash roms in one step from recovery. Wipe everything but the sd card then flash the rom. You dont need to flash boot image and what not separately from the rom if you are s-off. It'll do it all at once for you.
You only need to change the firmware if you are switching from Gingerbread to ICS/Jelly Bean. You dont need to do it for every rom flash.
And you can install Superuser from adb (and maybe from 4ext if there is an install script for it but Ive never tried that) to get root on your stock rom.
Basicly by having it come s-off from the factory it could not possibly be easier to root and flash.

So if i want to flash a sense 4 rom i just flash it through ext? Cool youre saying that i olny need to flash firmware if im going from gingerbread to ics but im going from ics to ics? If so, thanks for this for info!

You don`t need to flash firmware if you pass form gb to gb or ics to ics. I`m convinced that your firmware is 3.32. Flash 3.33 from here http://d-h.st/bCV via bootloader.(You just put the zip on your sd card)
And after all of this you make a full format except sdcarc(from 4ext) and VOILA ! You`re phone is ready for all roms from here.
Why flash firmware 3.33? What does it do?
Sent from my myTouch 4G Slide using Tapatalk 2
It is newer....and maybe improve you signal. It`s only for ICS.
On my device signal was improved drastically.

Sent from my myTouch 4G Slide using Tapatalk 2
Yes you can use 3.33 on stock ICS
//one more thing i`ve forget. To be more safer make a NAND BACKUP before flashing.
Do o flash firmware like a PGMxxxxx image
And can you tell me the bestt version of 4ext to use
Sent from my myTouch 4G Slide using Tapatalk 2
Yes.
I`m using latest version.
//You find it here http://4ext.net/ (4ext recovery updater)
This can be installed directly from app.
Can I flash that firmware without it erasing anything

oh my god..... now i see you don`t have sensation....you have mytouch 4g

plz help. rooted sensation. I was running sense-o-maniac rom but switched to an ics rom using 4ext recovery but then my phone didnt start after 1 hour so i tried to put it into hboot and it said that no image or something and then asks ffor an update. When i do that update it reboots and gets stuck again but if i dont i cant press to go back only reboot where it gets stuck. What do i do? i am willing too do a full wipe or ANYTHING just gte me into recovery.PLEASE
Did you flash the recovery using hboot (pg58img.zip) If so remove it from your SD card (use an adaptor or just remove the SD and see if you can get to hboot as normal.

And if that's the case, you can put a Gingerbread ROM on the SD card and reflash that one. Should spin right up.
IF this is your problem
Yes most probably the problem is due to the flashing of the firmware. First flash the firmware required for ICS ROMS and then install the ROM, should work out fine for you
I came from a mytouch 4g recently.
I already had adb setup for my mytouch 4g.
Do I need to install or do anything for it to work for my sensation?
Or am I good to go?

Nope you are good to go. Flash away and have fun! Just make sure to read all the prerequisites prior to flashing, especially for the ICS.
For ICS:
Basically you need to of course, then, unlock, NANDROID, superCID, update firmware, don't revert back the hboot to 1.17 and use a super wipe script, wipe all old data and flash your rom.

If you upgrade with the latest firmware (hboot 1.23), the newer roms will not boot up from hboot 1.17. Unless someone came across a fix.
And also keep in mind the hboot under 1.23 will say "LOCKED" but don't worry. You are still rooted.

ill be rooting this, how do i get ics? do i have to flash a ruu then flash roms? or if i want, i just flash sensation xe roms and im good to go? please help
Right now there are a couple of ICS roms.
Personally I'm using ARHD's ICS rom & it works perfectly with a good battery life.
Follow the steps here till after writing SuperCID.
For ICS ROM, you would need to flash firmware from 3.12.401.2/102 RUU from here.
For support for newer ICS rom's like ARHD's. All 4.0.3 ICS Roms runs on 3.12.401.2/102
& It's been said that this firmware runs good with Gingerbread too.
-Warning Only Flash after Rooting-
Heres the one I'm using. ARHD
The guide to do this can be found at ARHD's post itself under the "How to Flash" Section.
Hopes this helps!
can you tell me the steps to flash the ruu?
i download the file, and i put it in root of sdcard and i go to bootloader or fastboot and flash?
do i have to check anything before doing this? thanks. and will it brick my phone?

you MUST do Super CID. Set it to 11111111.
MAKE SURE IT IS 11111111 BEFORE FLASHING.
If not it might cause issues like bricking.
If you wait some days more ( like a month or less), HTC will announce the official update

Hboot 1.17 in a PG58IMG, you know what to do with it.

All i do is
1.place the 1.17 or 1.27.1 PG58IMG hboot file in root of sdcard
2.flash the 1.17 or 1.27.1 hboot
3.pull battery, use a card reader to remove the PG58IMG hboot file, replace sdcard, boot back into revovery
4.then use Android Revolution HD Super Wipe Sensation
5.Then just use a NAN backup or flash a new GB or ICS ROM.
This way i can try any GB or ICS roms I fancy
Oh I see you still have to do the same process as installing the ICS... Thank you again... I'll record this info...

hi friends. I can not find a forum that fits htc sensation xe so there I ask here. when now the case. I have unlocked my htc sensation xe from htcdev.com. and would flash CyanogenMod CM9 but it insists on CM9 logo. I've tried with ext4 recovery and clockworkmod recovery. but still just the CM9 logo. what can I do. I have hboot 1.29.0000 and is in the s-on
Do you have smartflash enabled in 4ext, if not go ahead and do that. Also you're firmware is not an ics firmware, go grab firmware 3.32/3.33 and flash that.

Get the 4EXT recovery
Then go to 4EXT - tools - Enable smartflash
Then immediately flash cm9 (don't do any wipe)
Also check and read "flashing roms with SON" guide by asskickar in sensation general section
