Hi,
I'm a normal user, used to update my desire s by OTA.
My phone is not rooted.
Now, I want to upgrade to ICS once released officially, I got to know that it will not be OTA.
Can I have a step by step guide to do the upgrade?

Be patient once the RUU is actually released (suspected 20th) then I'm sure that guides will be forthcoming....
A RUU is a simple windows executable, be sure you've htc drivers installed, plug your phone to pc and run the RUU, that's all I guess.
Thanks for the reply, will wait for the release.
Thanks again

ICS RUU has been released, now the RUU has been taken down by HTC but you can find a mirror by looking on the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485086&page=125
I did it, had stock ROM, unrooted, S-ON. I downloaded the file on PC, connected the USB, opened HTC Sync on PC then I ran the file from my PC. Everything worked flawlessly!
Q: Is it possible after setting up ICS RUU, to downgrade & Go back to GB using the official RUU?
I know it's possible, but my question, is it SIMPLE?
Only using RUU or is it complicated?

This is not enough. The main version should be changed as well. You can find how in any of the downgrade guides, it may sound complicated but actually it is not so

1.Just download your required RUU
2.It will contain a PDF file with instructions on how to update, follow them carefully.
(Basically you have to make sure your drivers are installed, sufficient battery is there in phone blah blah blah...)
3.Just double click the RUU and follow on screen instructions
It is a simple procedure and will take no longer than 10 minutes.
And yes you will lose all phone data such as contacts messages and apps!!!
Please take a backup of all data that you need.
Hi there.
Could you tell me please what are de "default" apps that came with the new ICS?
for instance, does quickoffice cameswith it? it allows viewing and editing files?
what about moving apps to SD card? it works ok?
any battery issues?
Thx for all tips.

As the title implies, wondering if any of the temp root methods work with the latest OTA update? I know I could go permanent, but I usually only reboot 1 time a week and I don't mind stock right now. I really just want to use Titanium and freeze some apps.
Thanks

You would have to start by using the HTC Unlock Bootloader process at http://htcdev.com.
Once you have HTC unlocked, then you can install ClockworkMod recovery and then flash and install the su_2.3.63.zip to root your ROM.
Just use Revolutionary as everyone else does, works fine

It works with 2.3.4.
BUT not my Sensation w OTA 2.3.4
I am somewhere around a noob or a noob=, but I have tried so many times to root my Sensation and no joy. I have downloaded the Revolutionary "ui" and I only get a brief flash on the cmd window.
I have read that I need to do this 2 or 3 times to get it to work, is this true? Do I need instead to place the revolutionary code at top of the SD mem card? I also previously ran the SDK and got all the way to the congratulations step but nothing else was said to perform, am I lost or did I move to noob- from noob+?
I have a TMO USA Sensation with OTA 2.3.4 and HTC unlock code installed, HELP!

@Chh, use HTC sync on your phone when you plug the usb cable to pc, run Revelutiinary.exe as administrator, it should work. If you're on Windows 7 you may need to reinstall the drivers and run in compatibility mode XP with service pack 2. I had a few hiccups while rooting two different Sensations and this method worked for me. Hope this helps.

The latest OTA update for 2.3.4 has a new hboot version and Revolutionary does not work with this version because HTC has closed the previous root exploit. That is what the OP has been asking about all along.

The tool works with the latest hboot 1.18.0000, but as per my post above you may need to run the tool 2 or 3 times before it works. You will get an error about a comms error and to go get some lemonade. Just reboot phone and rerun the tool.

Rhiannon, wow you are right about the Windows 7 shoulld be run in XP comp mode. I made all the progress in the world even being asked to enter my beta key, however it was rejected (several times). So I will do a fresh download of "revolutionary.io" and unzip it do the XP comp & admin properties hopefully they (the people who make revolutionary.io) are doing some kind of timestamp checking because I entered without any errors the key. If that doesn't work don't know where to turn. Oh by the way I am using a TMO USA OTA 2.3.4 update and the phone has the TMO unlocked bootloader. Yes I installed the new HTCdriver files 3.x x x something, too and removed the HTC Sync.
Now what?
Permanent root does work with revolutionary with an OTA 2.3.4 updated phone. I did it

I'm a noob. I followed the guide and rooted a 2.3.4 phone with Revolutionary just like everyone else. No issues. Phone is running great.
One thing that wasn't clear to me however, was that you need to put the files on the SD card as a zip file. I was being a bit over helpful and extracting them first. Didn't work until I figured that out.
@cch copy and paste the beta key, it's case sensitive, do this by copying the beta key then in the Revelutionary command window, at the top left hand corner right click and choose paste, the other steps I gave you were working so your entering the key wrong. That's the only thing it could be, it took me a Fe times to enter it correctly. Also, Revelutionary will boot into fastboot and it will loose communication, you will have to do it 3 times and then banjo, s off. I hope it works for you. These are they exact steps, it worked for me on two different phones, also the Revolutionary site confirms it is working on the t mouse 2.3.4 update, I had the same ROM as you.
Glad if i helped. Hit my thanks button. Thanks.

ill be rooting this, how do i get ics? do i have to flash a ruu then flash roms? or if i want, i just flash sensation xe roms and im good to go? please help
Right now there are a couple of ICS roms.
Personally I'm using ARHD's ICS rom & it works perfectly with a good battery life.
Follow the steps here till after writing SuperCID.
For ICS ROM, you would need to flash firmware from 3.12.401.2/102 RUU from here.
For support for newer ICS rom's like ARHD's. All 4.0.3 ICS Roms runs on 3.12.401.2/102
& It's been said that this firmware runs good with Gingerbread too.
-Warning Only Flash after Rooting-
Heres the one I'm using. ARHD
The guide to do this can be found at ARHD's post itself under the "How to Flash" Section.
Hopes this helps!
can you tell me the steps to flash the ruu?

do i have to check anything before doing this? thanks. and will it brick my phone?

you MUST do Super CID. Set it to 11111111.
MAKE SURE IT IS 11111111 BEFORE FLASHING.
If not it might cause issues like bricking.

The version of the radio is Radio_12.69a.60.29_26.17.14.11_M, and so far seems to be good. I'll need to test a few days to see if there's any improvements.
To extract the radio yourself:
Make sure your phone is NOT connected via USB!
Run the RUU exe, wait until it pauses at the first screen, then look in your temporary files folder.
One of the newer directories will have a file named rom.zip.
Copy that file somewhere else, then exit the RUU program.
You can extract radio.img and android-info.txt using 7zip or another zip utility. (WinZIP didn't work btw.)
ZIP the above two files into PD98IMG.zip and use the normal method to update the radio from bootloader.

I pulled the ril files aswell(to go with the radio) the rest is out of my current knowledge. The devs will find more useful stuff.

Does anyone know of a stable stock TMO US ROM without the T-Mobile apps?
For some reason I keep getting random reboots on CM10 and don't care for any of the other ROMs for the one S. Just gonna revert back to what the phone was built on.

Alright, well, I need help.
From my understanding of reading, i need to relock the bootloader, get into fastboot and run the exe.
Every time I run the exe the damn thing closes on me. Doesn't go into "not responding" or errors out or anything, just fracking closes.
Now that the bootloader is locked I can do anything with the phone lol.
Some of the posts I came across said that they found that if you don't have CWM as the recovery it fails, but other posts nixed that idea saying it doesn't matter. Is there any truth to that?
EDIT: the 2.35 RUU closes without warning the 1.53 RUU goes into not responding.
EDIT #2: Was able to unlock the bootloader again, flash the latest nightly and now im back on CM10 with a brandnew phone and factory reset to nothing. What do I need to do to be able to successfully run the 2.35 ruu...?
Are you running windows or linux on your pc..??
