Battery is droping like wildfire since root - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Every since I've rooted the battery in this phone reminds me of my galaxy nexus and that's the reason I sold my galaxy nexus. I have tryed synergy ROM and cm10 with same results. Every 2 mins it drops a percent. I miss the battery life without the phone being rooted.

How long did you riun the respective Rom's?

Might just be a defective battery.

root alone wouldn't do this, synergy rom/CM10 might - if you want to "go back" you should only simply have to flash a stock root rom again.
you should probably verify that the screen is turning off, or check the battery life statistics under settings. It could be a bad battery calibration perhaps? Probably should let the battery run down/charge up to calibrate (not sure if that's how it really works on phones but it works for laptops)

Yeah when I charged yesterday it only took a hour and a half from 0-100 I ran it down today to O and charged up again took 3 hours this time and its not dropping as fast very weird.

You can try BetterBatteryStats to find out what if anything is draining battery.
Did you try to factory reset your phone? You probably need to return stock ROM first.

I oded factory 2 days ago

I bet it is your battery. My battery has always been great.

Sounds like a bad battery because when I rooted battery was the same and since the unlock battery has gotten even better! Kind of scary if you think about it.

My was doing that also. I use Synergy 1.7 now and use setcpu and have presets with screen off max 348 min 348 and I get killer battery. I also charge my phone when it is powered down. If you charge at night with the power on the phone stops charging at 100% so you may lose 8%. Your phone will do a trickle down to catch up to the normal reading. So you will lose 1% every couple minutes when you are on it till it catches itself. Yesterday I had tow hours and twenty six minutes of screen time with 13hrs on the battery and still had 46% battery.

The general rule of thumb is that a Rom usually takes anywhere between 3 - 5 battery cycles before they Rom settles down and the battery normalizes

Typically, I do but last night I wanted to see what it would do unplugged.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I find that when I have my phone unplugged for like 3-4 hours it drains very quickly once I start using it. For example I'll unplug at like 7 or 8 and go back to sleep, wake up 3 hours later or something. When I start to use my phone it seems to drain a lot quicker. Is this normal for you guys?

Does it drain much during that 3 hour interval? You could try using an app like CPU Sleeper or SetCPU that allows you to turn off a core when the screen is off.
I love the battery life on Synergy 1.3! I haven't flashed to 1.4 yet, kinda liking where my set-up is right now. I'll probably wait until there's a few of the kinks worked out yet.
But yeah, I charge my phone overnight too...It usually comes off the charger about 8am, and at midnight I still have 50-60%, depending on how my day went...Some days, I only have to charge every other...
Looks like you're using about 12-13mA while idling, I am assuming you had mobile network and wifi off? I'm typically at around 24mA with wifi idling

Nope. Data and wifi on although I have sleep set to never when plugged in. I don't think I have anything set to auto update besides push mail though so it probably slept all night with me
This is standard battery as well. I just added the lean kernel and I am getting even better battery life. This is with mild screen time and 2 hours of pandora. You can see in the screen shot that it was only really awake when I had the pandora running.
Crazy battery life.....anyone have comparisons between this and 1.4? Would be interesting to see if the claims by some is true about the additional drain.....

That's some really smoking battery life! Congratulations, are you using any app or tweak for that?

It's lack of apps honestly. I have nothing auto syncing. I'll sync it when I get in the app. Also using better battery stats showed me an app that was wake locking. The lean kernel and battery saver script I'm sure are helping. No need for an extended battery on this baby.

My s3 was on fire!!!!

I went to bed normal. Plugged in my s3 into the charger . My battery was like at 4%. I leave the phone on because I use it as an alarm clock. I woke up at 6am and NY phone is really really hot I have no idea why? Why would this be? So I turn it off and let it cool down. Mean the screen was off and everything. Could my charger be bad or? It was so hot you couldn't touch the screen for long.

well do you have a custom rom on it does it have fast charge is it on? kernel? oc? voltage tweak?

We're going to need more info then that I am afraid to figure out what happened (if we can at all )
You flashed Clean Rom... did you
Use a custom kernel?
Flash the new firmware for the new update?
Flash the new radio for the update?
Any other things you flashed with the rom?
Any apps that have root permission?
I don't think it could be a bad charger .... key words don't think...
If it's not software related and it happens again it could be a bad cell in the battery perhaps and it's still trying to charge to capacity .... the more info you give us the more we can try and trouble shoot it.
Thank You for messaging XDA Anonamooose Tech support .....LOL
Anyone else have some insight?
Actually this happened before on my gnex . Thought the battery was bad but it can't be this battery also. What's weird was it charged it to 15% instead of 100% its like all the power after 15% was just heating it up instead of charging? Or could the battery be bad because I. Plugged it in again and it charged 33% in like 55minutes a 4400mah anker battery

Taking a hot expanded object and exposing it to quick contraction is how you pop solders and crack circuit boards.Exposing to sudden heat is not as bad as sudden cold. Plastic shrinks at a different rate then metal, and so on.
You got lucky.

So what kind of battery life should I expect out of this beast.......

I was wondering what is the average battery life of a Samsung Galaxy S3 today I got around 9 hours with very light use. What is the rest of ya getting? Fyi I'm using Synergy Rom..

If your light use is actually light then that would sound rather low. What type on screen time do you have? That would really help.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I usually get 30-35 hours with about 5 or 6 hours screen on time.
I turn off vibrations, use power save, when I'm at home I turn off data and use wifi only, I have manual sync set up, have s-voice wake up command turned off.

today i got...

still got 8% batt left.
from what i understand you will do better on a stock ROM vs an AOSP rom. I dont remember being on stock or synergy so I cant really compare firsthand.

If you just got your phone do a couple cycles on the battery and it will get much better. You also need to wait for the Rom to stabilise and once it gets stable your battery life will increase

im on the official latest radio.. and i havent made a phone call today.. out of no where it started acting like this.. did a battery pull even so maybe we will see what tomorrow brings..
whenever i see something taking up an irregular amount of battery i just reboot and it usaully fixes it
Whats your current ROM/kernal combination? I have the same battery; CleanRom RLS6 and Hyperdrive RLS9 I was getting around a day and half.
Pretty sure I figured it out. Seems like it was from the kernel I was using.. The Zeus kernel. Did a few battery pulls and it was still acting up. I was getting 12+ hours screen on time with the battery before I switch from lean kernel to the Zeus kernel. Back to lean and I'm at 2 hours screen on time and battery is at 90 percent. So I think I'm good now.

I noticed with the zues kernel i needed rom toolbox for any changes to stick. Nothing else worked for me. There are a few apps to check out whats going on (better battery stats, wake lock detectors, and cpu spy) cpu spy will tell you if its going into a deep sleep.

What changes in did you make to the Zeus kernal? I do know its a little power hungry than most; I just recently switched back to my normal battery and it seems to eat at it pretty quickly.
I changed gov. to pega-whatever it is and i/o to Zen.

Ridiculous battery drainage

I recently switched to hyperdrive ROM again, and the battery drain is absolutely ridiculous.. I watched 4% drain as I was making this post. I have included screenshots of battery stats, can someone tell me what's up? One thing to note is that it may be my charger, because I bent the metal part that goes in my phone a while ago. Should that affect the battery life? I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something to do with my setup before going out to buy a new charger.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I see cray drains when I flash a new rom too. A charge, a complete discharge, maybe twice and it goes back to normal. When was the last time you did that?
Same it usually takes a couple of days for me to see real battery life in a ROM. I'd test it out for a day or 2 and see if you have any improvements

do you calabrate your battery after switching roms?
That's been debunked but you can akways try.

What kernal are you running? Depending on the governor, I got really bad battery life with 4glte . Its kind of trial and error though.
Let the ROM stabilize for a while.
