BubbleuPNP for Synology NAS for access with Android - General Questions and Answers

Hi people,
I installed the newly uploaded bubbleupnp spk on my synology NAS. Opened the port 58050 on my router. Installed java etc - all mentioned on the bubbleupnp webpage.
but when I try to open the server configuration page (it goes to server DDNS>:58050) - I get asked a login/passwd. it does not seem to take any of my login/passwds on the NAS. It says "the site says - User"
I previously installed Serviio - no issues. I was able to access the server after opening the ports. Can someone please help?

Thanks. Ok cool. I will have to try this. If I use the LAN - it wont ask for a passwd I guess and then I can configure it in the security tab.

Hi bubbleguum
It worked like a charm. Now I am able to stream movies from nas on 4g. Thanks. I will ofcourse purchase the license...it's wonderful.

Android app DNLA Client???

Hello. I fount, that I can serve the media content from android phone through Twonky server to my PC. But I want retrograde app - the android DNLA media CLIENT - to play the streamed video or audio on my Android phone - from my PC media library.
Any idea?
Thanx!!!

I don't know much about Android...
...but I'm interested in getting an android phone, probably the HTC Desire.
Can't you just link your phone into your home network, like I've done with my WM6.5 phone? That way, you can just browse to the relevant media folder on your network from your phone and play the file via the relevant app on your phone. I do that for video and music on my WM phone.
Or does Android not allow you to link into a PC network?
Linking to a PC network over SMB/CIFS is not straightforward AFAIK:
You can browse and copy files with applications such as ES File Explorer, but that is not integrated into the file system for all applications. And You can use xyflash to stream from the network using certain protocols such as http and ftp, but not in a very user friendly way.
I'd love to see something being able to browse and stream using DNLA/UPNP or mount a SMB path in the android file system, but I haven't seen it yet. Though the latter may be possible if you device is rooted, I haven't checked that out...
Are you looking for something like AndroMote, or to go the other way around?

Just saw this post; I've been using this for a while (originally just to test it) it works well with my Buffalo Linkstation's Media server.
As I can see, there is no news about video dnla app client - only audio is possible now :/

Not necessarily.... If you have a UPnP server on your PC (TVersity, Playon, etc...) you can use PlugPlayer (plugplayer . com) as your client...
I've spent some time recently to look for a UPnP stack solution for android, so perhaps my exploration can be of use.
I found out that EyeconTroller is a nice media renderer. I only tested audio but EyeconTroller is supposed to handle videos as well.
I've tested it with two android devices: the first one runs iMediashare (media server), the second one runs EML UPnP-AV Controlpoint to act as a remote controller, and EyeconTroller runs on both devices. Using EML I was able to stream from iMediashare to EyeconTroller on both devices.
Next step is to stream from my linux box, but i don't expect any issue here (granted it is on the same subnet, which it is not for now), considering that EML discovered the iMediashare and all EyeconTroller instances without problem.
Note that for now EyeconTroller is free but might not always be (see eyecontec site).
I have a lcd tv samsung C550, they have dlna with name 'allshare', they can display music, photos and messages, but I think this only work with galaxy S, would be nice if any android phone can send text message to tv.
skifta is a great dlna client
i search for a audio only dlna client, they are all audio and video and i just want a small case to plug to my audio mixer.. without any drive i wan't to stream music directly from my phone as i can do on my tv with any NAS and skifta.

basically you can share stuff over a network or wifi to yer mobile device...that is what AllShare is for.
For example... I can stream (via WiFi) videos from my Windows 7 computer to my Captivate. I can also do the reverse and stream videos from my Captivate to my computer's Windows Media Player or my hacked WDTV media player.

I don't have a PS3, but if you have and want to try it over Windows 7:
For Windows 7->Captivate, you'll need to go to "Network and Sharing Center" and turn on "media streaming" somewhere in there. The files must be added in Windows Media Player's library. In the Captivate, select play from a server.
For Captivate->Windows 7, the Captivate's name shows up in Windows Media Player's left side. Click it and it shows the list of what's on the phone. In Captivate, just start All Share (nothing else).
anyone know how to have All Share NOT stretch the resolution of the incoming video and keep the aspect ratio of the file?

Annoying, isn't it?
In the actual "Video Player" app you can control how the video gets stretched - but not in the AllShare player. Why Samsung would choose to torture us like this is beyond me, but it makes me hate them so very much.
I will pay anyone who can figure out how to hack that size/aspect button from the video player to the allshare player.
Interesting....

I'm installing it just by clicking it in on the phone (not using adb) and it just says not installed. Any idea why? I will try twonky though, thanks guys.
EDIT: adb gives me "Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]" when i do this. My phone is rooted. Hmph.
EDIT2: I just tried twonky server. It works perfectly, i think its better than the samsung app, so i'll just be using that. Plus it look cool

If your Ps3 and phone are connected on the same network then they should "see" each other fine. If you scroll down on your Movies category on the Ps3 you will see your phone listed there.
Well, I can see my phone in Movies, Music and Photos on PS3. I can even see the songs and the photos I have on my phone. However, when I try to play a track I get DLNA 2104 error. I can see the thumbnails of the photos but when I try to view it I get a "network error". Is it possbile that this happens because my Netgear router is not configured as an Access Point?

Oh ok. I got that same error as well. Basically you want to make sure that:
A) Your Firewall (whether its 3rd party or just windows xp/ vista/ etc) is set to allow your device (ps3/ phone) to stream and share files.
B) Allow "network and sharing" center's Discovery mode and "file sharing" within Windows (or whatever OS you are running).
c) Also tell your net-gear that your Ps3 and phone are allowed to share files as well. I'm not quite sure how Netgear has their firewall setup. You may have to open DMZ (wouldnt recommend it tho).
I think theres more....ill have to post back when i remember all my steps...lol
a) What the Firewall on my computer has to do with the connection between the phone and PS3?
b) Similar to a). It's about the phone and the PS3 not the computer, right?
c) I'm not sure how do I do that.

How to set up PLEX?

Anyone plz guide step by step installation of PLEX and make it working.
You need to download Plex media sever software for the computer you want to stream from.
http://www.plexapp.com/
Follow this guide to setup videos on the media server:
http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/PlexNine_PMS_MediaManager
Install the Android Plex app, and if you are on the same WIFI network, your PC will show up in the Android Plex app.
There are lots of good info on the Plex website, here are some example. There seems to be lots of reading, but its very simple to setup.
http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Plex_Nine_PMS
The only problem is if your TV shows are not in Season number, episode number format, they might not be added correctly to the media server. More info can be found here.
http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/P...Naming_your_media_files_for_Plex_Media_Server
Over all, I found Plex is the best solution to watch videos.
P.S. The Plex Android Honeycomb app has some bugs need to be worked out compared to 2.2+ version. E.g. the resume playback doesn’t work and the app froze sometimes.
Let us know if you run into any problems.
hello. I am having a problem with plex.
I can see the library on the server (localhost:32400)
The android client finds the server but doesnt detect any movie.
I just have the choice to download plugins.
the server is win vista 32, the client is xoom 3.1 root. They are both on the same LAN.
Thanks for your help.
Happened once with me. Just remove Plex from your Xoom and re-install. Fixed it for me. Hopefully it will do the same for you,
Cheers.
Does anyone know it is possible to get plex connected with my Synology NAS? All my media in on the NAS.

It didn't work for me.
You would need to map the nas as a network drive and then you could browse the folders in plex to add them to the library. I have all of my media on a nas and use plex to get it to my mobile devices and then have it shared for the desktop/laptops.

Thanks. Just tried it. didn't change anything.
By the way, is there an older version of plex server for Windows (like plex 8) that I could try ?
The probleme propably comes from the server, because:
I have no problem to see the server from the xoom.
I have the same problem when i install plex client on my phone.
While I can see my movies on the server when connecting to: http://localhost:32400/manage/index.html#/sections/1
I do only have this when connecting to: http://localhost:32400/server
<MediaContainer size="1" content="plugins">
<Directory key="servers" title="servers"/>
</MediaContainer>
As I understood, there should be something about my library here ...

[Q] Stream PC music through Poweramp over wifi/3g?

Hi there,
I'm looking for an application whereby I can assess music on my pc wirelessly and browse/play them within Poweramp. I have seen applications that can sync the music within their own interface, or download the tracks but I wish to stream them over wifi/3g.
I can see that ES File Explorer may allow to browse my pc via ftp, I haven't tried this as of yet, but essentially I want to be able to see my pc music folder on my phone within poweramp (my preferred music player) and stream them as opposed to sync/download.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi,
Currently to remotely access (in 3g as well WiFi) to my server to see my personal media (pics, music, video...but streaming video depends on your bandwidth) I use several apps but all of them use it's own media player so no way to pass music to PowerAmp..
They are:
Tonido
Plex
Qloud Media
You can try to access your Pc trough Samba share (\\servername\musicfolder) but not a really a wise idea if you care about the security of your pc...
Never tried by myself but should work:
Prerequisite (without this you will not be able to use this method)
Your kernel MUST support cifs (modules called cifs.ko).If you are on stock Rom/kernel... No way, if you are on a custom one it depend on the dev that have developed the kernel, try to find it out ( XDA is a good way )
Share your music folder(restrict acces to only one user avoid EVERYONE)
On your router redirect Samba(also known as cifs, smb or windows share) tcip port to your server intranet Ip (local ip of your server usually 192.168.xxx.xxx)
Install from the market an app to mount cifs share on your android phone (I use CIFS Manager, remember to configure it, it does not work out of the box)
Add your music share to CIFS Manager (you must know your Public Ip and, if it is not static, every time you have to know the new Ip your ISP assigned to you)
Using any File browser go to /mnt/cifs/ and you'll find the share you have just created
Browse it and you should be able to access to your music library, as well all the file of your Pc.
Not using this method or PowerAmp not sure if you'll be able to stream music or only to download it.
To be honest I wold not expose my Pc to Internet in this way.... Windows security is not so strong... Anyway It's up to you.
Hope this will work, as I never tested it,and hope will help you.
Thank you for the detailed response there, I'll look into it!
You're wellcome
I'm using " AUDIOGALAXY " it's free !!!!!
Interface sux, but wotdayagonnado !

Hi pratetorious,
I do also use Dyndns services, quite all new router have built in the client to do it, but not sure that CIFS manager support HOSTNAME rather than simple IP, never tested it.
It could work anyway, but not sure about it

[Q] Streaming content from PC to tab

Hello Chums,
Did a quick search here and everywhere else for that matter and couldn't find anything of help.
Basically we've purchased a trio of pads, I was testing one of them several days ago to see if it could get media from my HTPC, it could get music, pictures and videos. It was a fairly painless process, I already have home sharing on and allow devices connected to the network access to my media.
I tested in the default picture app, music app and video app > Nearby Devices > HTPC (everything showed up)
Today all the devices can see the music and pictures but none can see the videos. My videos are fully shared on the network, the homegroup is set up correctly, I've tried restarting all devices including the HTPC, I've reset the homegroup and permissions.
Feel like I'm banging my head on a brick wall, any idea what could be causing the videos not to show?
Thanks in advance.

Hey trem,
Thanks for the alternative but these tabs are for my 3 daughters aged 4,5 & 6. I don't want them to have access to the file system so I'd prefer to troubleshoot using the default video app as it means they can't get access to anything other than my default media libraries. Do you think you could help?

No 3rd party software, W8 with homegroup configured and sharing to devices enabled. Music, pictures and video libraries fully shared to network and the tab default picture and music apps pic up the share but the video app doesn't.
When I open the video app I can see the HTPC but it displays "no videos".
Ok round 2
The hard way
1st register to Samsung Apps on all the tablets
2nd You need to install on your PC Allshare Notification from samsung
3rd Update on the 3 tablets Allshare Play
www.allshareplay.com
Then you sign in to that web page (from your PC)
Whats going to be shared is on settings :
Registered devices
Setup the folder to share with registered devices
You must have your PC and the 3 tablets shown on Registered devices
If you still cant connect from the tablets , right click on the icon of allshare on your PC (next to the time bottom right corner)
Ckick nearby device connection settings and put on all the tablets allow.
You must use allshared to browse.
Good luck

There is a difference between network share and DLNA or UPNP shared. Folder shared on the "network" may not show up in DLNA devices which is what Samsung Allshare expects.
Check this article for tutorial on setting up DLNA in Windows . applies to windows 7 and 8. I use this and my video work great on the Sam Tab
